This assignment gave me a detailed understanding of the story sequence and how the transformational events drive the story forward.

Start with the Character Arc and the list of Old Ways and New Ways.

Jolyn started as the secretary and ended up being the CEO.

    1. Make a list of 6 – 8 changes or steps that need to happen for that character to go from who they are in the beginning (Old Ways) to who they are in the ending (New Ways).

Jolyn started the script living in her Old Ways.

She is the secretary of their family-owned small business, serving the Black community in the Chicago Black Belt.

She has accepted her husband’s idea of loyalty to the community.

Afraid to make herself heard, she watches invoices pile up in bundles and not going out to customers.

She watches drivers not adhering to their schedule. She observes the inefficient way the taxes are done.

She is learning to live among the chaos.

    New Ways

In the end, Jolyn has become the CEO.

She has set up systems to ensure invoices go out.

She has worked schedules for the drivers and hold them accountable.

She has taken on the big companies, and the government.

She has contributed scholarships for students and conducted bus tours to college campuses.

TRANSFORMATIONAL EVENTS OF An Unlikely CEO

On her husband’s deathbed, Jolyn signs documents for the new trucks and paving the way for her to start the process of transforming towards a wholesale marketing strategy.

The forced sexual encounter with Harvey at the woman’s conference that leads to her first major contract with the military which helped stabilize the business.

Stepping into the headquarters of big businesses and insisting that they housed her products on their shelves.

Winning the five concession stands at the airport.

Dilemma: After securing the concession stands finds out that airport regulations are delaying the opening of the concessions for 6 months and the stands are not profitable. Have to make decision on selling the stands.

Winning the Minority Entrepreneur of the Year Presidential Award and then finding out she is being sued for using child labor.

After years of trying she finally breaks into the nationwide wholesale market.

Jolyn Robichaux is a housewife who lacks the experience to manage a company.

Jolyn Robichaux beats the odds and turns the company into a multi-million-dollar corporation, sells it and retires in Paris.

A series of events and challenges that transform Jolyn Robichaux’s life ending with her success where others have failed.
