What I learned from this assignment is inciting incident and creating characters that connect with the audience but you still need the mid point lock in to create the intrigue.
What is the “Inciting Incident” of your series that this pilot needs to deliver powerfully? The family must find Isaac’s family for survival. They have been on the road for months in dangerous territory.
2. Give us the main beats of that Inciting Incident:
Intriguing Concept: New World Order. The US has changed and Native American’s retrieved some of their treaty land back.
Act 1: The family is on the road in a bus turned home after their community was raided. They come upon what they think is a safety road block but are bandits raiding them.
Midpoint: Flashback to Irene and Jessie adopting their nephew Isaac who is half Native American but his tribe is unknown. It is revealed if they find his tribe they can seek refuge with the Native Nation. After many failed attempts to find Isaac’s family they decide to return to their community that is safe for now.
Lock In: 7 years last later the family’s community is raided by an organized militant group. Most of them are killed and resources taken. The few who survived run off. Jessie and Irene survive retrieve Isaac and Irene’s best friend’s daughter Mira the only one they see alive. They pack up their bus Isaac and Mira find Native American elder Grandpa Frank standing by the bus. They bury Mira’s parents and head on the road. -
Lesson 2
Marcus’ Amazing Inciting Incident
What I learned doing this assignment is fundamental structure for episode 1 of the show.
Intriguing Concept: Old age and modern technology have presented problems for the witches that they never expected. Each pursues her or his unique way of coping.
Act 1: Trabeus is a nice old man about the neighborhood by day, and contract killer to gangsters by night. Cassandra is lonely and purposeless in the 21st century and discovers she hasn’t long to live.
Midpoint: Trabeus tortures and murders an innocent man because of a botched spell his enemy, Cassandra put on him (from afar). He must find a way to defend himself against Cassandra. Cassandra must reunite her coven and find and kill Trabeus.
Lock in: Cassandra has begun her hunt for Trabeus and her quest to reunite her defunct coven. Trabeus must find a way to defend himself against Cassandra and her coven as well as the new leader of the gang he works for.

Phyllis’ Amazing Inciting Incident
What I learned doing this assignment is the bingeworthy aspect of the pilot (making the whole thing the inciting incident) made me look back to re-evaluate the pilot and subsequent episodes I put in the TV Pitch Bible.
Lesson 2: Pilot as Incredible Inciting Incident
The “inciting incident” of my series is the teaming up of Sasha and Duncan because neither has a choice if they want to fulfill their most important goals and quell their negative narratives.
Beats of Inciting Incident
Intriguing Concept: Sasha is going achieve her heart’s desire, protecting the planet for a living, if she humors a delusional billionaire activist whose search for primeval creatures will turn out to be real.
Act 1: Sasha is a superstar at the EPA, about to bring down a major petroleum company and Duncan contributes to climate science and supportive politicians by day and obsesses over suspicious deaths during extreme climate events.
Midpoint: Because Sasha fights back after Delia and her Department of Justice friend collude on a settlement, she is framed and her reputation is destroyed. She’s now unemployable and has to move back in with her mother, with whom she has a fraught relationship. Meanwhile, Duncan, who has no practical investigative experience, finds out that Delia will compromise anyone he hires to help. His quest to find the creatures is blocked.
Lock-in: After losing her dream job protecting the planet, making herself unemployable, and moving in with her mother because she can’t afford rent, she takes the job with Duncan, even though she thinks he’s delusional, because he guarantees that he’ll fund an environmental foundation for her. She will be her own boss doing what she loves best! And after being stalled in his search for creatures, Duncan can now return to the mission driving him since the death of his teenaged daughter, with a partner who will never betray him to Delia.

Kim’s Amazing Inciting Incident
What I learned from this assignment is that I have a few levels happening…hiding the DID, and hiding that Natalie was the one to harm Eric.
Inciting Incident this pilot needs to deliver powerfully: That Natalie’s personalities are leading her to discover the pain in her past lives.
• Intriguing Concept: Eric and Natalie need to cover up her Dissociative Identity Disorder and subsequent attack on Eric while piecing together why her alternate personality tried to kill him.
• Act 1: Nat plays with Eric’s fourteen-year-old daughter, Linnie, on a Saturday afternoon. Kid-like, she amuses Linnie, but when Daniele is at the door to pick up Linnie, Eric is enraged that Natalie hasn’t switched gears in time for Danielle to question Nat’s behavior.
• Midpoint: Eric is viciously attacked by knife while flirting on the phone with someone. This is when we discover Natalie has multiple personality disorder and Eric is trying desperately to hide that fact.
• Lock In: Everything points to Natalie as the perpetrator…evidence leads to her. She denies it and Eric is on board, lying to the police about the attacker being a stranger. When Nat gets home from the police station, she reads a message on her mirror telling her she was the attacker.

Mary J. Andrews LESSON 3-2: PILOT AS INCITING INCIDENT.
What I learned from this lesson is perhaps a different overview of what a pilot can do and how.
DECISION 1: THE MIDPOINT; The question to ask is, “What is the big mystery or conflict my show is about and how do we present it in a surprising or shocking way?”
Rael’s entire life has been manipulated to position him as the new Intergalactic Corporate Overlord, Keeper of the Hive Penal planet and Government Contracts–despite his fear of the place.
DECISION 2: THE LOCK INThis Lock in sends the audience on the journey of this season. There is no going back. The character must confront this major conflict that won’t be resolved until the final episode of the season. The question to ask is, “What will lock them into the change and guarantee they can’t return to their previous life?”
Rael’s adopted Mother, head of Gov Dark ops, collapses and is suddenly dying. Fowl play is suspected. Upon her deathbed, she gives him a written document she’d received from his birth-mother which tell him of his heritage and provides him with the Name of his life-long enemy. Rael can now finally exact revenge/justice.
DECISION 3: TEASER…ACT 1 The question to ask is, “What status quo will contrast the Midpoint and present the character and their world in an interesting way?”
RAEL POINTE (35), Special Dark Ops team leader for The Universal Government– who rule the space between planets– has been unable to catch up to a paranormal terrorist ring always managing to keep just a step ahead of them.
The teaser opens with them arriving at a pleasure planet, Tanivol, to retrieve and rescue a Universal Government Ambassador who has been mind-jacked by unknown assailants. This has all the earmarks of the terrorist ring they’ve been following, but something is not right. Two Planetary agents contact Rael seeking to deliver the Ambassador to their vessel, Nemesis and launch an attack of the team at their own vessel. The team easily puts them down and has them committed to the Hive Penal Planet within an hour. It is suspicious that anyone would so blatantly attack them since they are Universal Gov agents. Something is not right.
IRA HAZE (early 20’s) retrieves the Ambassador and attempts to free his mind from a terrorist’s control, only to discover the mind-jacker is still mentally linked to the Ambassador and is, herself being tortured as well (sonic disruptors). Ira barely manages to pull away from the pain fest and collapses onto the sickbay floor.
END OF TEASER -
Marie’s amazing Inciting incident.
What I learned doing this assignment is that by following the instructions, it gives a first draft for the inciting incident.
INTRIGUING CONCEPT:
Humans have celestial guidance and this is how the world evolves.
Prodigies discover new ways, new knowledges, all inspired and guided by invisible Guardian Angels.
But what would happen if that connection was cut off by the evil forces, the fallen angels?
ACT 1
Skyler watches Rose, a Cyber Prodigee, who is invited to train with a government agency at the age of 13!
Skyler must attend a class at the Guardian Angel school about teenagers’s behavior.
He has learning and flying difficulties and his school mates don’t respect him. Skyler doesn’t think the lesson is useful as his protegee Rose is a lovely girl, not showing any sign of brain rewiring and attraction to death.
MIDPOINT
Skyler is disconnected to Rose.
Rose has a risky behavior and things turn so bad that Skyler sees he will not be able to stop her from being raped and killed.
LOCK IN
The only way to save her is to use forbidden magic, reverse the time, and prevent the danger.
But he takes the risk to be noticed.
Now either he will be expelled from the world of the Guardian Angels and become a Fallen Angel or he will be caught by the devil who has been looking for him for 13 years!

What I learned doing this assignment is how to structure a first act.
· Intriguing Concept: An experiment sends a man into an alternate reality where he has to fight spies and assassins.
· Act 1: Joshua is feels like a failure who lives a boring life.
· Midpoint: The particle accelerator explodes, sending Joshua and three other people careening through alternate realities.
· Lock In: Salva attacks Joshua, the Chinese spy pumps him for information, the American spy tells him that he’d better cough up what he knows because it’s not just about him, but about the future of the world. Joshua commits to finding out what he knows and getting back to his baseline reality.

Bob’s Amazing Inciting Incident
Intriguing Concept: An apparently stellar Mossad agent goes rogue to avenge his parents’ murders at the hands of terrorists.
Act 1: Newly assigned to the Jerusalem bureau of Mossad, Daniel immediately contributes to the bureau’s mission.
Midpoint: Suppressed anger and PTSD start to inform Daniel’s decisions and we learn he is seeking to avenge his parents’ murders.
Lock In: In the course of his work in a Mossad operation, Daniel captures and tortures a terrorist to obtain information regarding his parents’ murders.

Diana’s Amazing Inciting Incident
What I learned: I learned more about the characters and figured out a more interesting role for one of the ancillary characters.
1. What is the “Inciting Incident” of your series that this pilot needs to deliver powerfully? Wife empties husband’s bank accounts and frames him for insider trading before escaping during the worst hurricane of the century.
2. Give us the main beats of that Inciting Incident:
Intriguing
Concept: Mother/Daughter Catfishing TeamAct 1: Jake is a
day trader away on business. Friend of family clears out all furniture in
his house.Midpoint: Hurricane
about to touch ground as wife leaves town with kids and everything in
their bank accounts.Lock In: Jake comes
