Dawn’s Level 2 Action Emotions
What I learned doing this assignment is how to use shock, surprise and suspense to improve action scenes.
Shock
<div>Setup:
A mother bends down to kiss the
forehead of her young daughter asleep in her bed cuddling a stuffed
rabbit.
Transition: Men dressed in black with night goggles come down the hall.
Tragedy:
The mother steps into the hallway,
sees the men screams. She is shot and falls to the floor.
</div><div></div>
Surprise
· Setup: Hero’s superior is accusing her of betraying their country.
· Surprise: Hero sees armed team coming down the stairs to arrest/capture her.
Suspense
· Beginning: Hero and partner find container with the new resources needed.
· Opposition: Gunmen fire at container doors trapping hero and partner inside.
· Betrayed: Hero tries to use enhanced abilities to free them, but her abilities have been sabotaged by her superior.
· First Attempt: Hero can’t bust through top of container without enhanced abilities, but she had enough power left to get through the bottom where it has rusted.
· Gunmen Attack 1: Gunmen open shot up doors to discover container is empty. They track hero because of the enhance tech in her blood.
· Hiding: Hero and partner hide amongst the stacked containers.
· Gunmen Attack 2: Gunmen in helicopter find them from above and start shooting.
· Sacrifice: Partner distracts helicopter allowing hero to run underneath container to container.
· Second Attempt: Additional gunmen box hero in and she must fight her way out. Partner barrels in and runs over several gunmen in truck he hotwired. “I’ve got special abilities too!”
· End: They escape!

(Dexter Miller) – Level 2 Action Emotions
I learned that building surprise, shock, and suspense deepens my character traits
ASSIGNMENT #11
Setup:
Penny is playing with her daughter in the front yard as a car drives by slowly. She’s dressed for work and is getting her few minutes of playtime in before she leaves.
Tragedy:
She hears that her husband is killed and she has a flushed face. She takes a seat and takes in the bad news.
Surprise: Penny gets a call from the CDC while in the lab. We see Penny in the lab with her lab coat and PPE gear on.
Shock: Agents attack her and she kills them all.
Suspense: Hall sets his plan in action and Penny has to stop him.
-
My scene starts with the surprise reveal of the intent to murder the antagonist, followed by the shock of his beheading and then the suspense of escaping before the murder is discovered by his armed henchmen who surround the murder site.

Kay’s Level 2 Action Emotions
What I learned doing this assignment is this is a team & everyone has an important role.”
Surprise After using ju jit su on all the guards, the five enter the office of Mac Janssen. He expects them to attack him. Instead Larry says, “Sit down please Mac. We would like to talk.” After he sits, they take seats around the desk & began to talk softly. Rose, in Spanish, tells how they lost Juan to accidental fentanyl overdose. Lee talks about her niece who died from fentanyl. Maurice & DeVon quietly walk in circle around the group. Sounds began softly & the air in the room seems to change colors.
Shock. Suddenly Mac jerks his body around in the chair. He is experiencing severe mental reactions; like he is in a drugged mental state.
Suspense. The five wait silently now as they watch Mac contort both face & body.
