    A. How did this process work for you?

Ok. It’s a bit of work to go from what I have into the high concept statement, then figuring out how to amp up that high concept statement by brainstorming alternatives. But it is a fun and good exercise for writing, and I can see how it will help with any script, not just a contained one.

    B. What did you learn doing this assignment?

I learned how much work it is to nail down a really good, highly pitchable high concept, but how valuable it is to the rest of the process. Just having this work done will accelerate and improve the writing, plus make the pitch so much better.

    Eric Humble’s Great Hook!

    A. How did this process work for you?

The process worked very well, in that I was able to take a few ideas that I thought were pretty strong and make them even stronger from a pitching perspective. I enjoyed using some the techniques that were provided which were a bit different from those we learned in the MSC for generating high concepts — looking at the Contained Setting, Unique Device, etc. got me to start thinking about potential hooks more easily than simply exchanging components, which I’m more accustomed to doing. In all, I’ve narrowed my selection for the class to two concepts, one of which I had initially dismissed until this exercise — but which is now emerging as the stronger candidate thanks to a great hook I was able to come up with.

    B. What did you learn doing this assignment?”

I learned some new techniques for brainstorming high concepts, and once again I’ve gained an appreciation for the value of a high concept versus an average concept. Brainstorming concepts used to be my biggest source of consternation when starting a project, but it’s actually become the most enjoyable for me thanks to the techniques ScreenwritingU has taught me and continues to teach me!

    A. How did the process work for you? This was a great process to visualize and try to bring to life the movie scene by scene while breaking this all down. Also, being restricted due to covid it makes you make the most of what you got. I think

    B. What did you learn doing this assignment? I learned more about the layers of the movie that are being revealed in the scenes. I know its a complex movie being entertaining and breaking it down with this process really helped.
