What I learned most about this assignment is doing research on producers who made films in the vein of mine. As I’m still researching, I’m going to submit the following at this time:
Films in the vein of mine: Clueless, Mean Girls, 13 Going on 30
Producers: Barry Berg, Twink Caplan, Robert Lawrence, Adam Schroeder, Jennifer Guinier, Jill Sobel Messick, Lorne Michael, Louise Resner, Tony Shimkin (still researching)

I’m having a tough time finding recent comparable films. My genre is historical drama, set during the American Revolution.
I’ve tried searching under History and Historical Drama, but I’ve only found four producers that have credits that make them seem like a decent match.
How do I go on from here?

Sky Canyon’s Target Market
What I learned doing this assignment is that it’s six degrees of Kevin Bacon. This is easier to develop a list than I had thought it would be, once I dug into it. Harder was finding “movies similar to.” So I imagine that some of the producers are not likely, but I cannot pre-judge at this point.

Ron Horton’s target market for “Charley’s River”
“Charley’s River” – Action/Adventure – Charley wants the life on the river, with the lady of his dreams. But, diving into a class 5 rapid on the Colorado river is more than he bargained for.
I learned that I like the process, although I feel it will take some time to compile a list that I fee comfortable with. Finding movies that I felt had things in common with my script proved difficult.
5 Movies that are similar, or could be construed to have a theme similar to mine:
River Wild
White Mile
Dog
Lost City
River Runs Through It
(A couple of these would be a stretch)Finding actors I feel would fill the parts well was much easier.

Sanaa LathanI found well over 50 producers, although I’m not sure I was searching exactly correctly. I’d really have to hone this more to feel good about it.

Rod’s Target Market
This lesson verifies that this technique taught in my old ProSeries class if still valid. And it’s a great way to develop and warm market list in a hurry.
As is obvious, I’ve become behind in these lessons due to outside life interference. I thought this would be a good time for this course, but events have overwhelmed me.
I’ve previously developed over 200 warm marker leads for this script but in checking research of the starter films, I’ve thoroughly screwed up. All their budgets are way out of line for this script. I have to start over from scratch and, not wanting to get further behind, I’m going to move on as I know the technique well.

What I learned doing this assignment is that a lot of these producers are seemingly unreachable. It’s going to be some work to get in touch with them or their people.
