    hello

My name is Bent Hanlen. I have written I think 7 scripts so far. 3 of them television pilots. What I hope to get out of the class is a grasp for action writing. Right now I’m writing a feature that is filled with action so learning all of this is important.

My favorite genre to write is comedy. Outside of screenwriting, I perform stand up and write my own material.

Hello, my name is Michael Greco. I have written two feature screenplays, one serial pilot script and a one-act stageplay. I hope to get from this class an understanding of and tools for creating compelling action stories and screenplays.

I love music, and regularly break into singing.

I look forward to meeting and working with everyone. Cheers, MG

Hi everyone. I’m Lee Tidball. I’ve written somewhere between 12 and 20 scripts, most of which I’ve marketed at various times, and five that I currently market.

What I hope to get out of this is a really good template for writing pure action films. These kinds of movies are very marketable, play well internationally, and don’t have to cost arms and legs to be produced. Thus, much more opportunities to eventually sell a great action script. Besides, I love to watch action films, so I think that might give me a leg up writing one.

Besides screenplays, I’ve written published novels and both optioned and adapted and been hired by others the adapt novels into screenplays. Nice to be able to make some money and provide a service to an author. I’ve also adapted one of my own novels, and written a novel based on one of my scripts.

Looking forward to learning lots here. I’m busy, so I don’t always get lessons posted on time, but I’ll be doing the best I can. Hope to read some of y’all’s work too.

    I’m Leland Little

I’ve completed a handful of screenplays in multiple genres, half of which have been submitted for consideration to producers. I am working on an action movie that I hope to sell as a result of this class.

    Hello,

I’m John Woodward. I’ve written about 9 screenplays, 2 horror movies, a thriller, a couple of comedies, and a docudramady based on the actual trial of a stripper for lewd conduct and indecent exposure. That last one was far from a marketable genre, but it won film festival recognition, generated lots of laughter, and may have contributed to a change in the way the Houston vice squad policed strip clubs. I directed both horror movies, one of the comedies and the docudramady. I think I have a commercial idea for an action movie, and I wanted to use the class to develop it. Something unusual, I taught acting for several years. Richard Linklater was my one of my students during the time he was developing his movie Slackers.

I’ve enjoyed a career as a screenwriter, having many screenplays commissioned and selling several that I wrote on spec. During the various lockdowns I wrote some thriller novels and now want to get back to a screenplay which I was unable to finish. I’ve taken several of Hal’s classes and found that they have all improved my writing.

My name is Monica Arisman. I’ve written six features and one tv pilot. What I hope to get out of this class is brainstorming for my re-write of my female action script, which I hope to enter into competitions soon.

Hi! I’m Patricia Steffy. I’ve written 15 scripts — fairly evenly split between comedy and drama. I wrote a disaster/action movie in Hal’s MSC 11 that got a decent amount of attention, but while readers enjoyed the premise and characters, it read more like a drama and the action fell flat. So, my goal is to significantly improve my action writing skills so that I can rewrite that script and re-market it.

Something unique? Hmmmm I worked as an analyst for a corporate law firm for nearly 17 years before deciding that I wanted a different life. And while it hasn’t been anywhere near smooth sailing, this new life has certainly been interesting. 🙂

Hi everyone! I’m Evelyn Brooks, in L.A. and I’ve taken a number of Hal’s classes over the years. It’s so good to be here for another SU class that I already know will elevate my writing. I’ve written about 20 scripts. My top 8 at this time have recommend coverage and I’ve been getting them out with some producers. My intention for 2023 is that this will be my year to shine and I hope that writing my first action thriller will be a key part of my success. Something unique about me might be that I just keep going like an Energizer Bunny. I keep writing, I keep learning how to improve my craft, and I keep brainstorming ideas. I can date my spirit of perseverance back to when I was in one of Hal’s earliest Pro Series courses!🙂 I’m in awe of my fellow writers and wish everyone a splendid adventure as we learn how to create highly marketable action film scripts. Cheers!

    Hello, Everyone

I’m Daniel Burt (Dan). I’m a disabled Army officer reinventing myself as a writer/screenwriter. I’ve mostly done pre-production work (one-sheets, treatments, pitch packages, and production books). My treatments have opened a few notable doors. I’ve completed an animated feature with my oldest son (it turns out animation is action-heavy), and I want to continue developing a high-action scripted sci-fi series. I hope to improve my tradecraft and become more prolific.

Unusual? The first treatment attempt I ever made (a bastardized effort written the night before it was due to Netflix) was given to a producer who later went missing. It was reportedly favorably considered by the CEO. Two months later, I learned he was in a Mexican prison for smuggling cocaine (“moving weight”). When I circled back to Netflix, absent his representation, they responded like I was trying to kick down the door.

I’m hoping that meant my scriptwriting doesn’t suck.

I look forward to getting to know you and to this class.

    v/r, Dan

    Hello all,

My names is James Scott Flannery, I’m an independent filmmaker from Northeast PA. I’ve written 3 original scripts so far, 2 of which I made into features, and I am finishing a 4th right now. I’m taking this course to write an action film possibly for sale, or maybe something I would do on my own. I’m really into the arts as a whole (guitar, piano, dance, acting) but film is my real love.

Hi, my name is Don. I’ve written more than a dozen feature screenplays, and several more for TV. I want to improve my craft writing for the action genre. As for something unique, I spent part of my career as a Federal agent working arson and explosives cases in Arkansas and Louisiana, and I was a technical advisor for two episodes of ‘The Shield.’

I’m H.G. Middlemass. I’ve written two Features and three TV Pilots along with three TV Pitch Bibles. I just finished Screenwriting U’s “Binge Worthy TV” class about four months ago and it lasted over six months. It was a lot of work but I got more out of that class than any other class or seminar I’ve taken or screenwriting book I’ve read since I began writing screenplays. What I hope to get out of this class is a better understanding of the framework of the “Action” genre. My goal is to create an Action movie with the believability of “Ronin” or “Heat” with great story-telling like “The Fugitive” or “Die Hard”.

Hello, fellow scribes! I’m BG from Massachusetts.

I have written three screenplays and I’m working on my fourth. It is a geopolitical thriller. I’m taking this course so that I can jazz it up with some action scenes;))

Something strange or unusual about me? For normal people, the more you do something, the easier it gets. Unfortunately, for me, it’s the reverse. I don’t know why I’m so stuck with this one. I’m really overthinking and overworking it.

We look forward to working with you all!

Hi, Am Jon Vasquez, this is actually my first draft, but I’ve being working on it for a very long time. I’ve invested lots of time and sweat equity in this first script, it is meant to be a sequel – three part.

Am weird person, I temp to think usually out of the box, very profound personality, mysterious, and spiritual – so I generally try to put all of that into my script. I plan to be the hero in the script once is finished and picked up by industry pr😛s.

    God Bless!

    Hi all.

My name is P.E. Penley. I’ve been writing for 20 some years. I’ve never sold or optioned a screenplay but it doesn’t stop me from trying. I have been involved with Hal and Cheryl’s ScreenwritingU since their Pro Series. The classes offer so much information. It seems every story I write is full of action so what better way to learn how it’s done.

I wish you all the best.
