I learned from this assignment that I like the new features on IMDB Pro that make it a lot easier to glean needed information. I found that after the first 15 additions to the database, I could navigate it faster by putting in my genre and budget. I used my iPad to find the information and typed it into my iMac database. It took me less than 4 hours to do 55 entries. I will need to contact some via email, others by snail mail, and a lot by telephone. I was surprised that several of the movies listed three genres. I renewed my old membership for a year because I have three other scripts to market after this one. Thank you for the video, Hal. It helped a lot.

I learned from this assignment the value of sticking with a genre for marketing ease. I have a list of 250+ managers that I marketed my TV pilot to in the Binge-Worthy class. My project for that class was a mystery thriller. While I still need to individually check each name I have to make sure they’re still with the same company, I have a really good start for email marketing. And, for the ones who requested the TV pilot, I have a new script to send them!! Yay!!!

For this lesson, I added to my previous lists of producers that I built for marketing my last script. I will continue to add to this list.

What I learned from doing this assignment is: The wealth of info that I can access by doing a little research. I have a pretty good database of producers that I have compiled over the last several years while taking the SU Pro, Master Class, and other courses. I’ve added a bunch of new producers, targeting recent movies in my genre. It just felt natural, that after adding them to my database, that I would go ahead and send them pitches via email and LinkedIn, so I’ve done so. 😊

I have learned to refine my work. And see that both the pro-series and the MSC15 made this class easier and yet a notch harder. I have a large data base and some good connections at the moment, Because this is the highest-budgeted script I have written I will need to do a little more exploration of producers.

    Farrin Rosenthal’s Target Market

Farrin’s Vision: To do what it takes to become a highly paid A-List Hollywood writer whose produced movies will entertain audiences around the world.

    Title: TRAPPED

    Genre: Thriller

Concept: Claustrophobic and trapped in an underwater grave for stealing $3.6 billion in Bitcoin from the Russian mob, a Los Angeles retail store manager has just 60 minutes to prove his innocence and save his family.

What I learned doing this assignment is how to use IMDBpro to make a list of producers or managers who might be interested in my project. The producers you look up should make movies in your genre and budget range or have contacts with those producers. That website also allows you to make your own lists. Just call it producer or manager list and save it, then add producers or managers who fit. I’m focusing on managers first, and I did a search for them by clicking on people and selecting managers. A list of over 13,000 managers pops up, but you can narrow down the list using filter selections. I clicked the box that says “Has clients” and that gets the list to 7,000+ managers. Then, I started selecting only managers with contact info and numerous clients. Doing this, I now have a list of over 500 managers I want to query, but before I do, I need to check to see if they only rep actors, and if so, I remove them from my list. It takes a long time to create a large list, but this is part of our job. Don’t stress, just put in the time knowing you are working to find people who will say yes, send me the script. Happy searching!

What I learned from doing this assignment is…?”

How critically useful and easy it is to find the open doors by matching the genre and Budget of your film with producers in your genre and budget range, locating such producers on on IBDBPRO and keeping the list of producers’ names and contact information for ready reference. .

    Andrew Kelm’s Target Market

Vision: I am going to do whatever it takes to be a great writer of TV and movies who is sought after by people I respect within the industry and has multiple successful TV series produced.

What I learned doing this assignment is… This is so hard! I hate it more than income tax. I don’t find it easy and I don’t believe that any of these producers are going to be the least bit interested in my script. But I know that I have to do this; after years of neglecting this I have relearned how to do it; and weeks later, I have found 50 names.

WHAT I LEARNED DOING THIS ASSIGNMENT IS…?

The use of IMBDPRO for collecting and storing of the names and contact information of producers and the importance of seeking open doors and not studios or closed doors and not to be discouraged by closed doors.
