David Wickenden Amazing Inciting Incident
What I learned?
This setup has changed the entire plan I had for the pilot. I can see that it creates so much more tension and a need to see what the vigilante will do next. There is also the need to see the police, the government, and the public’s reactions to the future events.
1. Inciting Incident: After losing many clients to suicide because of child crimes, Laura, a PTSD psychiatrist, begins a crusade of hunting down major child abusers and those who aid them.
2. Main Beats of the Inciting Incident.
· Intriguing Concept: Laura is going to kill every major child abuser in the country until the public outcry can is force the government to change its laws to better protect children.
· Act 1: Laura is the expert in PTSD for the military and 1st responders. She trains with them so that she can know exactly what they deal with. But she is losing too many to suicide because of what they encounter in the line of duty.
· Midpoint: After losing one particular investigator that she had thought had been cured, she decides to take the law into her own hands and kills a major child abuser being released after a minor stint in prison.
· Lock in: Although she is now hunted by every police service in the country, a vast amount of the public applauds her actions, giving her the vindication she needs.

David Thompson’s Amazing Inciting Incident
What I learned doing this assignment is that I am doing a total rework of the main concept, and major plot line, thus making room for more layers, layer upon layers.
What is the “Inciting Incident” of your series that this pilot needs to deliver powerfully?
Pull our hero into the world of the Furies. It’s not enough that he just sees the one goddess, it has to bother him to the point others have doubts about his sanity MEANWHILE his niece is brutally killed in the Pilot’s cliff hanger. An atheist (essentially) who is forced to come to grips that the woman he’s fallen in love with is a goddess, with goddess powers, his niece was murdered by a demon who is possessing a mortal. A demon who wishes the goddesses killed, no matter how many mortals have to die in the process.
The main beats of that Inciting Incident:
- Intriguing Concept: The idea that gods, ALL GODS, can still walk among us, even if the world at large has moved on, relegating these currently out of favor gods into the slush pile of “mythology”
- Act 1: Introduction to the Furies and our cop hero. Grocery store standoff indicates Dan is a hero, his ability to see what is kept hidden is revealed.
- Midpoint: Brianna, Dan’s niece, is at a party and is picked up by a handsome stranger, who drugs her drink.
- Lock In: Cliff-hanger at the end of the pilot – Dan sees a horrible specter in his bathroom, as his own god-like abilities begin to surface.

Syd’s Amazing Inciting Incident M3_L2
What I learned doing this assignment is the value of working backwards. I still may want to think about this one some more.
What is the “Inciting Incident” of your series that this pilot needs to deliver powerfully?
Charita gets set-up by the king’s invisible enemy, but she’s too clever to take the fall as expected. Charita will expose many secrets and multiple conspiracies to find the real culprit.
2. Main Beats of that Inciting Incident:
Intriguing Concept: A low-born young woman searches for a way (and believes one exists) for her to become autonomous even though she lacks male relatives. Problem — she lives in Golden City, a principality in the Mughal Empire, circa 1565.
Act 1: Raised in a village, this dancer found favor with Queen Vanhi by some miracle — or was it? She knows she got there by the shrewdness of her mother, and, like mother — like daughter. She decides she will be shrewd too and create her own wealth.
Midpoint: Charita is implicated in a plot against the royal family. Anala, a royal cousin, points to her quest for financial gain as her motive.
Lock In: She starts investigating quietly to clear her name and to protect the royals, some of which she loves dearly. She discovers the king’s powerful enemies and a web of conspiracies, but uncovers a threat that not even General Veer is anticipating. -

Wayne’s Amazing Inciting Incident
What I learned doing this assignment is another useful way to organize a TV pilot around an inciting incident, creating a more compelling obsession to watch the entire series.
What is the “Inciting Incident” of your series that this pilot needs to deliver powerfully?
The inciting incident is Mike crash-landing on a hostile planet, being saved and harbored by a humanoid single mother.Give us the main beats of that Inciting Incident:
• Mike, an astronaut on mission to explore the closest inhabitable planet 6.2-lightyears from Earth.
• Desae, a humanoid of that planet, subsistence farms on the edge of wilderness with her son.
• Mike’s ship, hit by a meteor causes a fuel leak, and for him to crash land, never to return to Earth.
• Desae sees Mike’s ship descending overhead and takes her tractor to the site.
• She takes Mike’s unconscious body home to care for.
• A stern Security Force leader finds the single empty seat crash and follows the tractor tracks.
• Mike opens his eyes to see a strange face up close looking at him.
