Hi everyone. My name is Lori Lance. I’ve written eight movie scripts over several years and a handful of tv scripts. Though I’ve written a little bit of everything, I am now focused on writing family-friendly scripts. I signed up for this class because of the weekly Zoom videos. I find Hal very motivating, and my goal was to rewrite one particular script over the summer anyway. Hopefully, taking this class will help keep me on track to do that.

    Hello all,

My name is Constance (Connie=the friendlier version).

I have written 12 screenplays and studied with SU for several years. I have one script optioned with a small producer in London that he is seeking financing for. I want to ramp up the quality of my top 3 other projects and then market them. This seemed like a timely course to keep me motivated and moving through the summer months. I also really like the notion of working with exclusively other SU folks.

Sadly, I will miss the first live session today, as I am involved in a local musical show this afternoon.

    Enjoy!

Hi I’m Kimberly Jentzen — I look forward to meeting and working with all of you! I really look forward to all the growth as well as completing a rewrite on a script that has my heart. I’ve written more than 10 scripts, 5 have been produced, one “story by” credit and 3 books. What’s strange about me is that I’m a cat whisperer. I’ve helped several friends with their cats. I’m not a cat person, I only have one feral that I feed because she was hungry for the last 10 years. I’m just very passionate about all animals, especially, obviously… wild ones.

    Hi everyone,
my name is Elisabeth Decesso, I live in Germany, this is my fourth class with ScreenwritingU and I am grateful for these courses, because they give more insight into “what is a good script”.

I have written several screenplays so far and I hope that I can find out how to make the scripts I’ve worked on better.

Something unique about me: it was my dream to write for movies for more than fourty years now, but could never really get through until I became a naturopath.

I am looking forward to these lessons.

Thank you for this special course.

Hi, I am Aina Järvine, a director of animated films and TV and an aspiring screenwriter – neo noir/horror writer, joining this class from Estonia.

I have completed few feature scripts, one of which (animated film) has been produced (released in 2020) and many shorts, several of which (animation again) have been produced.

My plan for this upcoming summer was to rewrite my next feature script and I have been treading this procedure, so Hal’s call for the Rewrite class came on cue and I am hoping to use it to have a draft 3 of my animated feature ready for more pitching by the end of this summer.

Something unusual about me: I have hot-pink hair, it’s been part of me for the past decade so it kind of feels as if I was born with it :-).

Looking forward of sharing this new fun journey with you all.

Hi everyone, I’m Jacqueline and I’ve written and co-written 5 scripts, one of which won, best unproduced script at the British International Film Festival a few years ago. I’ve also written 2 books. I’m re-writing a script at the moment and it needs elevating so this course felt perfect for me and I really enjoy Hal’s teaching. I was an expat for 9 years and lived in Russia, the USA and then South Africa and currently I reside between the UK and Cape Town.

Hello, my name is Griff Lambert.

I have completed 8 features and 2 complete TV bibles with pilots and 5 seasons outlined. I have been pitching one of these TV streamers recently until the Writer’s strike.

I want to re-write the original feature that inspired one of the TV streamers as it is over twenty years old and in need of an update (I think it still has value as a feature.)

I spent 10 years in the music business and 40 years in the TV business.

I look forward to meeting everyone in this class.

    My name is Amechi Ngwe.

I’ve written over 20 scripts (mostly features, a few TV pilots), I’m not sure what the exact number is anymore… I guess that’s a good thing?

I’m hoping to rewrite my script from the Writing Incredible Movies Class. I don’t think I got it to where I wanted to take it and am hoping a bit of time off and some new motivation will help me get it there.

Something different about me… I guess I really enjoy sitting and working in libraries. The books there just inspire me to get my work done too.

    Looking forward to the class!

    Hi Everyone:

I’ve been writing for a long times. I have several articles published in local papers and magazines. I am currently working on a short story writing challenge. I have one comedy script finished. A second historical fiction one almost completed, and two others in progress that need a major rewrite. I also have one incomplete I want to finish and another I’m writing with a friend another comedy. I’m taking this class specifically to rewrite the two I need to rewrite. Glad to meet you all.

I’m a city girl but love the county side of me. After a horrific auto accident in Incline I had to close my business, built a home in Montana but couldn’t take the cold after several surgeries. And that’s how I came to Arizona. Too much metal in the body.

    Hello everyone,

My name is Charles Jessen. I’m currently finishing my 9th screenplay. And also wrote a TV pilot and pitch bible about 9 years ago (pre-Binge Worthy Class). One screenplay (#4) was optioned by 3 different small-time producers at different times, had talent interested, but was never made.

I hope to get a new perspective to elevate script #8, which I wrote earlier this year, as well as the script I’m finishing now. I feel being in Hal’s classes not only elevates my skills, but is like having a career coach to keep me on track…. that alone is worth the price of admission. I hope to have both scripts, #8 & #9, ready to pitch at a Pitchfest at the end of July.

I am retired from the Advertising/TV commercial world, where I was a writer/director/producer. I live in Mill Valley, CA, am a pilot, sailor and travel frequently.

That script one first prize in PAGE and several other contests, so I went on to write a dozen or so more. Some options, one made (TINKER’ available on Amazon), and hoping to improve my writing by 2.4% each year. Something unique about me: I was Junior State Chess champ in high school…. I’ve written 21 books (mostly on film-related topics)… and I’ve shaken hands with 5 U.S. Presidents. Hello everyone. My nom de plume is Eliza Herald. I am glad to be reconnecting here in SWU.

I have written one pilot for a streaming series for the Binge-Worthy Course and I am currently working with another SWU member as a writing partner on another script. Both of this scripts are in need of a re-write.

I have taken several courses with SWU, including a few of the intensives. I put this education on the shelf for a while during COVID to care for my mother and to create an organizational development design model for concerned citizens to activate resiliency in their own Watershed Communities. I am ready to pick it up again.

What I hope to gain from this course is both very simple and oddly complex. SIMPLE: I want the two scripts I have to be in the best possible version for presenting to producers for when I am ready; COMPLEX: My current primary responsibility is as the caregiver for my mother in her end-of-life time, so my own time to write is very precious. I am using this period to prepare for the next phase in my life by gathering the skills and connections to become a professional paid screenwriter. This has been a dream of mine for many years. I am not at all interested in thrashing through the trial-and-error method, and I truly appreciate the well-tested success methodology of SWU. I do not know the time frame for her transition, but I need the skills for that time.

I have worked in media production for 30 years at every level and in many different capacities, however, this work was always in support of other people’s stories. I have mostly worked as a cinematographer, video editor, and scriptwriter for a television series that aired on PBS for 15 years. It is now high time for me to now start telling the stories that are mine to tell.

This is a career choice that is easier on my body than production, and I know I can stay excited about it for as long as I can keep hold of the keen mental capacity of mi cabeza. This course is an excellent chance to turbo-charge the transition after caregiving by adding to my quiver of knowledge and hopefully, wisdom, in getting my stories produced.

Here is a more personal “interesting fact”, while growing up as a ski racer and wild child in the High Sierra mountains (on skis for as long as I have been walking), I was making little ski films as a pre-teen and I got my start in filmmaking working on the early (and first) Extreme Skiing videos.

Since then, I’ve become a lifelong Water Advocate and dedicated Change Agent. I use the skill of storytelling (hopefully now screenwriting) to tell entertaining, well-crafted stories that might help inspire humanity towards reaching critical mass to find and implement the most effective solutions for our species-wide imperative to shift the impending climate crisis. I am leaning into this “LIFE AND LOVE”, so that the present and upcoming generations of youth can thrive within a hospitable planetary atmosphere far into the future.

I’m excited to take this course to assist with bringing a 140-page drama into a tight, engaging 105 pages (target). And to continue to hone my craft with revision strategies as part of my toolbox. One of my previous career hats was working in public affairs for The Baltimore Sun newspapers, back when David Simon was working the city beat. I’m looking forward to working with you in this class and supporting your rewriting.

I was also attracted to the class being limited to SU alumni (to take topics & questions to an even higher level.)

My name is Joan Dougherty, and I live in Canada, my adopted home. I’ve taken many ScreenwritingU courses over the past few years but have only one script to bring to this Rewrite class. It’s an unusual story that merges fantasy and drama and is perhaps better described as a work of magic realisim. I wouldn’t have gotten to this stage without the courses I’ve taken from ScreenwritingU and have chosen to take this course so I can benefit from being a member of a writing community again. I’m hoping that, by its end, I will have a script that is improved, polished and ready to take out into the world.

I’ve written a variety of genres, but most recently I’ve been writing feel-good, inspirational comedies with female leads over the age of 50. I’ve taken trapeze classes and I can tie balloon animals. (Maybe I’m just a closeted circus performer at heart! Haha!) I’m looking forward to following the progress of everyone’s scripts as we go through this class together!

    Hi Folks–

My name is Nancy Kates, I live in Berkeley, CA, I have written drafts of two screenplays, and have studied screenwriting through various organizations and platforms, though I mostly work in documentary film, as a producer/director. I’m hoping to address the problems in my script, ie I know what is not working, but sometimes lack the confidence/skill to try to fix the problems…which are evident at the outline level. My screenwriting journey often feels like I’m trying to build a perfect house while learning carpentry–there are a lot of angles that go awry. In any event, hope to keep learning, growing, and transforming my script. Fun facts about me: I have dimples, and I own three plum trees.

    Hi,

    I’m June Fortunato

I’ve written at least 20 screenplays, more than 30 short screenplays, a limited series, interdisciplinary performance works and radio dramas.

I joined because Hal is available live, and I find him so uniquely helpful and genuine. The lessons and the schedule keep me on track, too.

    Goal

I wrote a short story a few years ago and want to rewrite it as a screenplay. The challenge is daunting, and wisdom tells me that I should rewrite one of my finished screenplays. Nonetheless, this one has a high concept and expresses the offbeat dark comedy that I love these days. AND, new ideas & science keep challenging me to go for this one.

    Unique

I have an offbeat sense of humor and point of view.

I started my career working in experimental theatre (in the days of Mabou Mines.) I developed /wrote experimental operas, live works, interdisciplinary forms – directed and produced them. I wrote and directed radio dramas which were broadcast on public media. I directed plays. My film was also broadcast on PBS. My “living film” (presented on a stage) consisted of thousands of projected images and voices, with which live actors interacted. (Magical Realism) and like many of my works, consists of deeply overlaid images and voices.

Now I write dark comedy, romance and dramedy.
