I’m glad you’ve joined us for the class.
To start the class out, please introduce yourself below. That will give you a chance to be part of this group and learn how the forums work.
Tell us the following:
1. Name?
2. How many scripts you’ve written?
3. What you hope to get out of the class?
4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you?
We look forward to working with you all!

I’ve written 7 scripts.
I am hoping to elevate my writing skills and write a Binge Worthy TV Show.
I have been working in the TV/Movie industry for 35 years and I loved every minute of it, however, it is time for me to write/produce my own material.

Lloyd Shellenberger
Former AFN broadcast journalist and print journalist. Former actor. Still active songwriter and musician.
I have written 5 scripts. 2 TV series bibles, written and produced several documentaries and TV pilot.
I shot and produced the news stories on the mass Graves in Iraq. That footage was shown worldwide. I am looking forward to learning and experiencing new things. Best of luck to everyone.

Hey Lloyd – we’re both in the WIM class together as well. Jumping in with both feet!!! Looking forward to seeing both projects pan-out.

I’m CJ Lyons and am thrilled to be here—I have soooo much to learn!
I’m a novelist and over the years have come very, very close to having my books adapted either to film or TV. A producer told me to consider writing the film adaptation for one of my thrillers, so I’m working on my first script.
Most of my books lend themselves more to long-form storytelling, so I was excited when I learned about this class. I want to learn the behind-the-scenes process of how/why series get green-lit and will be using an older book of mine (the first of a trilogy) as source material for creating a series.
Since I’m such a newbie, I thought having an existing story as a barebones template to use as a springboard to new ideas would allow me to focus more on process and experimenting with all the concepts the course will be covering (just the first two pre-lessons were tons of fun, trying out a whole new-to-me way of approaching story!)
As for something special… in my prior life as a pediatric ER doc I met a serial killer…

Hi I’m Steve Spiro
I’ve written around 20 scripts (both features and tv shows)
I hope to improve my writing technique during the class as I love to learn. There’s nothing better than writing to learn how to be a better writer!
I was a former boxer and have been involved in animal rescue for the past 16 years.
Nice to meet everyone!

Hi everyone,
I’m Chris Confer from Birmingham, Michigan
I’ve written one script and have a full outline of the second one that I am writing.
I hope to write an excellent binger and sell it but first get the skills to do it, here.
A couple of you from the WIM class (hello all) saw this story already about a professor that I had at Michigan State. I had a course once with Jim Cash (Top Gun) on popular culture that he taught in his home. Michigan State University gave him a lot of leeway to do that as he was a local celebrity for having co-written Top Gun and several other scripts with Jack Epps Jr. His office was so large that it fit all 22 of his students pretty comfortably. It was really more of a giant family room with a Wurlitzer jukebox on one side and his desk on the other with couches in between. You should have seen his desk, it was about 15 feet long and he casually held court from behind it for the semester. It was a worthwhile course. The funny thing is that movies did not come up too often in the conversation. He did mention that was not real happy with how the Charlotte Blackwood (Kelly McGillis) character was cast. He wanted her to be stronger and more independent. He said the choice of nylons with the seamline on the back undermined his intent for the characater. He also told us he had this little trick of not having to lend out movies to people because they often would not be returned. These were the days of VHS tape in the early 1990s. He would say, yeah, I don’t have it on VHS, I prefer Betamax because the picture quality is better. It was kind of funny. He was a producer at a local PBS station in East Lansing / Lansing before he got his break. He loved sports and everything popular culture. The course mainly focused on the 1950s and 1960s and we used a book called Populuxe.

Chris, I’m in the class also, and I noticed your last name. I’ve known only one person with that last name and I wondered if you might be related. His name is Torry (sp?) Confer. Just curious if you know him. We served together in the Army. He was my company commander at Ft. Lewis, Washington, not sure where he is from

My name is Hilton Garrett. I’ve written three feature scripts, one TV pilot and some short stage plays. I’ve executive-produced two feature films, one of which played at Sundance and was sold to Magnolia.
I’m looking forward to learning what I believe this class offers, and putting that into a viable BWTV series.

Hi, I’m Mary Guinane. Here working on my first script. Project began with a friend who has since passed away. We literally started by Googling, “How to write a TV pilot.” While I’ve dabbled in lots of writing, my day job is in fundraising. Self-taught as a freelancer and now an Associate Creative Director for the largest fundraising marketing agency in the world. Calculated a few years ago that I have a fingerprint on about 72 million pieces of mail a year. That doesn’t count digital efforts, so it’s highly likely that you’ve seen my work at some point.
Looking forward to playing in a new sandbox!

1. Ace Chapman

3. I need to give life to my dream. I hope to learn, become a better writer and make new friends who share the same passion!
4. I was writing a script about a blind man (true story) who predicts the path of hurricanes based on frequencies he hears and I had written in June 2017 a cat two hurricane would make landfall where I live. Well in Sept 2017 it did just that and I lose EVERYTHING!

Hi I’m C A Holmes, you can call me Carol. I have written many scripts for both film and tv.
I love binge worthy tv and since I love watching it, I know I already will love writing it. I also think it is the wave of the future.
I think everything about me is weird but that’s because I think all people are weird if they allow themselves to be honest. One weird trait is I think about 40 years ahead of the curve, not in any snotty way, but just because I’m wired that way. And no Im not an android or anything! LOL

Stuart Ungar
I have written three scripts.
I hope to enhance my writing skills to give the reader/viewer a memorable emotional journey.
Following a skiing accident many years ago, I could not work for many months and wrote an unusual medical thriller. I so enjoyed the experience of seeing it in the bookstores that when I lay down the stethoscope, I promised myself I would write full-time. My project is to sculpt the story into a binge-worthy television series

1. Rich Whiteside
2. I’ve written (mostly co-written) over two dozen feature scripts and a couple TV sample scripts.
3. I’m very interested in learning the module about defining the series rules. I hope it’s nuanced and not just superficial.
4. Not sure about unusual, probably because everything about me is just off by a degree or three. I’m highly competitive. Graduated from the Naval Academy and was selected into the SEAL Teams. I’ve done a ton of technical writing for various government agencies, including a small piece for The White House. I’ve interviewed over 200 industry screenwriters, producers, agents, and studio executives for articles–a dozen or so for Script magazine in the 2000 timeframe.
