    Tell us the following:
    1. Name. – Tita Anntares

    2. How many scripts you’ve written – I'm a stage play writer and my plays are more active and less talky thanks to Screenwritingu's ProSeries50, MSC4 and many specialised courses. I've written 3 full length scripts, each has won at least one contest and placed well in others… but except for staged zoom readings during covid, no productions… the producer who was going to produce one of my plays as soon as the shutdown ended was shutdown himself, dying of stomach cancer, probably because he didn't check symptoms when medical offices were high risk for covid. Also several short ones.

    3. What you hope to get out of the class: I helped two Afghans escape the Taliban by writing support letters and want to figure out how to strengthen the story of their journey with their romance so it's deeper, more human than their frightening escape.

    4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you: As you can see in #3 above, I jump into the world even if I rarely move out of my home to do that… or what about this – I was a freelance puppeteer in NYC, giving interactive puppet shows to kids in homes that ranged from duplex Park Ave apartments with servants greeting me to a low income housing project for a one year old but really for all the young parents.

We look forward to working with you all!

    3. What you hope to get out of the class? Finish a script that wasn’t supposed to be a Rom Com, but that I feel will be great as one.
    4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you? I’m a cinematographer and shot three movies for French New Wave director Eric Rohmer.

    1- Joe Donato
2- Ive written 7 scripts. 5 of them were in screenwritingU classes over the past 4 years.
3 – I hope to use this class to rewrite 2 of my scripts which are RomComs, and also continue to develop several other RomCom outlines/treatments that I started writing with the help of chat gpt.
4 – Even though I reside in New York, I am currently living in Southern California just North of San Diego indefinitely as my wife and I assume the role of primary caregivers for her ailing parents. I have lots and lots of free time during this month and into August, so I plan to fill all that up with really fulfilling as many of my screenwriting goals that I've been fantasing about ever since childhood, qs I can.

Hi Cheryl and everyone. Thanks for the opportunity to say a little bit about me: born in i Montreal I have finally settled in Medellin, Antioquía where I manage the discomfort and hardship of a neurodegenerative disease for which there is no cure using a new method: enjoyment of the world I’m in, bathed in the love and care I get from the people of this enchanted place without asking much in exchange, and from the one and only significant other to grace me here living the romcom of my life!!!A screenwriter since 2019; have been studying with Hal since 2020, (proseries, wim , binge worthy, and many others). I took this course to learn the techniques of romcom. So far of the two completed scripts one made quarterfinals at PAGE and got mentions and awards at many unmentionables my problem is finishing the stuff I start. Unique thing: before disease killed it I was a singer/songwriter with music videos shot in France with French actresses and crews. We had a blast!!!

Hey all! Like Tita (hi Tita!), I’ve been a playwright for a while and have had plays produced around the world. I always wanted to write a TV feature, so I started learning what I needed to learn during lockdown and my first TV feature, DEADLY WIVES CLUB, premieres this Thursday at 8:00 EDT on Lifetime. I’ve written four screenplays, two as samples that got me the thriller gig and the chance to develop a Christmas romcom that was soft greenlight but then industry contractions resulted it not being made, and the producer is now trying to find a buyer for it because they no longer make things on spec.
In this class I hope to further develop a mainstream romcom idea I have. And fun fact is I make crossword puzzles.

My current and the one I’m planning are Hallmark-type Christmas screenplays, with a slight mention of global warming. So they might not go with Hallmark, but maybe with some other holiday movie prodco/distributor.

Laraine Hruby, a recluse in my mansion in a small town in Illinois after living in San Francisco during the 60s and 70s, where I gained my first vision of Romantic heroes. For decades I have developed only one script based upon the Counterculture experienced at its birth in San Francisco and spread to New Orleans in 1965 . My memories are the most unique thing about me and the fact that I have followed my “Beloved”, forsaking all others, from state to state and country to country.
Now, besides watching every Romance film available, taking online classes in screenwriting and storytelling, besides surviving the stress of working for attorneys for 30 years; there’s nothing unusual about me — except a few things: I tell the truth, (as Robert McKee advised) and continue to play various roles in my Life Adventures as Artist, Researcher, and Traveler leaving all other roles behind [a sister, a mother, a poet] to grow as a Student of the Real Creator of the First Love Story who also has a great sense of humor.

Wow, I’m from southern California, but went up to San Francisco just out of high school in 1965, hung around the Bay area until 1971, married my husband from India at Berkeley where I did my BA in Anthropology.
From 1965 to 1967 I lived in the Sunset Dt, and when the Hippie movement started in the Haight-Ashbury, they had to reroute my bus around it. My sister came a couple of years later as a Hippie there. In grad school in the 70s I wrote a term paper on the Hippie Movement as a Revitalization Movement.

    2. How many scripts you’ve written? I started to study at SU in 2014, have co-written 4 features. Two were optioned, one is under contract to produce, one we have converted to a stage play and we have a producer for the play, and the 4th is tough to sell. I have written 2 myself – one was optioned just before Covid… need to market again, and I need to market the other one also. But have been busy writing… Those 6 all have recommends. I have 3 other scripts in the writing stages.

    3. What you hope to get out of the class? I see me more as a ROM-COM writer than anything and have been WAITING for this class… I hope by learning what goes into a rom-com from SU, I can write some real tear jerkers!!!

    4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you? During my 20 years with my late husband, we traveled to 136 countries!

    4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you? I live in Edinburg, TX, but am in India right now. I wrote a romance novella (published) set in India decades ago, THE MARRIAGE SEASON. I'm now into climate change (cli-fi) screenwriting in various genres — sci-fi, action, now rom-com. I just finished Act 8 of the Hallmark holiday 9-Act structure on a cli-fi Christmas Rom-Com. Don't worry it has a blizzard of Colordao snow because the warming causes more precip and storms, but not sure if I will use that in this class, or one I'm thinking of writing next, set in the Rio Grande Valley. None of my screenplays are set in India so far.

Something interesting about me… I just retired from accounting so some of you younger folk might not appreciate this bravado, but I’m the only guy who lives in Chicago to sleep with Demi Moore. Just for the record, she was a one-eyed black cat I adopted, not the actress. 😉

    Hi everyone, I’m Pat Fitzgerald

I;ve written two scripts that did well in contests but were totally unproducable due to being historical in nature and one crap script that languishes within this computer and deleting it would probably be an act of mercy.

What I hope to get out of this class is the knowledge of what constitutes a quality rom-com. I tried writing one once, but it was never completed simply because I didn't know in which direction I should take it. That’s why I’m looking forward to this class.
What’s unusual? Well, I am fanatical about researching the origins of American music, starting with English ballads that came to the country and then mixed with the African rhythms that slaves were able to salvage of their native culture. That’s the tip of the iceberg for me. I could go on and on, but right now I’d rather concentrate on this class!

I joined this class to get out of my comfort of writing horrors and improve my writing skills in general. Along with writing screenplays I also create interactive audio dramas (A.K.A. Choose your own adventure stories) that are then turned in to interactive dramas.

Somehow I thought you lived in the Pacific NW. My story is set in the fictitious town of Silver Bells, CO — 2+ hours west of Denver. Also my sister lives in Lyons.

While looking up stuff I found that a favorite Hallmark movie star was a featured guest at the Estes Park holiday to-do some years back. And there’s a whole series of novels about the fictitious town Christmas, CO, and a movie based on one of those. I’ll send you the script.

    1. Name
    Patrick McCormick

    2. How many scripts you’ve written?
2 features; The first I ever wrote at age 14 (1976), the second I did in 1996 which I'm realizing is a Rom Com (instead of the supernatural thriller I always saw it as) now that this class is happening. A story finds its home in its own time.

    3. What you hope to get out of the class?
To actually get a script produced, starting this new phase of life as a produced writer.
To be functional within the industry.

    4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you?
Spent 20 years as a writer for the King of Hawaii to world leaders. Getting ready to try something totally insane to fulfill the Kingdoms destiny of changing the world.
Doing my own Quantum Spirituality show since 2014 (in S92 now, about 260 shows/year).
Monitored the sovereignty movements in the U.S. since 1989.
Now going through my 96 story ideas (in various levels of completion) Ive gathered from real life supernatural experiences and see which ones are Marketable and High Concept. Its time to tell what really happened in extremely entertaining ways.

    Hi Everyone!

    1. I'm Anna Burroughs.
    2. I've completed one full-length movie script, a short feature script, and have been working on a television series based off my epic fantasy book series. I've also got a bunch of unfinished scripts that I began writing here simply to learn some new concepts and skills.
    3. I've been bogged down writing a really HEAVY closing season of my book series / proposed television series and would simply like an excuse to take a break and write something light, funny, and uplifting.
    4. Something unusual about me: I primarily write epic fantasy, but I had the privilege of being mentored by a handful of best-selling blockbuster romance novelists. You'd be surprised to learn that many of the masterminds behind all those alpha males and lassies with heaving bosoms are women with Ph.D's in history, science, and law.

    1. Hi Romantic Comedy Class, I’m Dean Burkey.
    2. I’ve written over two dozen screenplays. Not all great, but not all bad either. Mostly comedy.
    3. With this class, I hope to network with other like-minded people and gain the ability to sell screenplays to Hallmark and the like. Plus, learn how to add romance better to my other stories. Before she passed away, my Mom and I spent her last few years watching Hallmark movies, because those are all G-rated. She would always say I could write those. So I’d like to. Plus, learning how to write a love story will enhance most any story. Just think how differently JAWS would’ve ended, if that shark hadn’t fallen in love with that scuba tank! ;oP
    4. As you can see, I can be silly sometimes. I also perform standup comedy, write books, and post a joke a day on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter with #DeanSays

    4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you? My day job is to write and direct 1-hour educational films. In the last 10 years I’ve produced 42 of them and just started writing number 43.

Hi Everyone, my name is Claudia Wolfkind
I’ve written 9 feature films with two being optioned… one by Jodie Foster and one by Hans Zimmer with a former head from Bruckheimer; 3 regular TV shows (story) and have written/produced 13 infotainment programs.
I wanted to jump into this class to rewrite my romantic comedy and make sure I hit everything that’s needed for it to succeed. I’ve pitched it a couple of times and already had producers say “that’s a movie” – but life got in the way (cancer) before I could do a rewrite and get it to them. Then Covid hit and I got hit with two forms of cancer and it was pretty bad for a very long time. Now I’m making some major life changes (moving out of California to a family farm in southern Indiana where it will be much less stressful – AND…. I was just told I have another mass – haven’t biopsied it yet, hopefully within the next couple of weeks. So… I’m losing health insurance and having to decide what to do. Well… I’m going to write, regardless.
Something unique about me: I launched The Outdoor Channel… from scratch, without a penny for a programming budget and made it into the number one outdoor programming channel at the time…. I could go on, but I have writing to do! LOL

Your rom-com will be next! About the health care issue, does Indiana participate in the ACA exchange? If so, you can go on an ACA-approved plan. Just a thought. LOVE your passion for writing and your fabulous outlook.

Thanks, Missy. Yes, I’m definitely going to look into an ACA plan. I know they are also wanting income information and I’m also working on launching a couple of new sites, so I’m praying I’ll have finances for the insurance (and to stay home and write). The site I’m working on now if for ocean life lovers (whales, dolphins, etc), with some profits going to the Pacific Marine Mammal rescue center. The first site I created, though I need to rework it, is for us writers and artists. I was going to focus on shirts and totes… but while I’ll be keeping the tote bags, I’m going to eliminate the shirts and only make them for special occasions. I’ll have other cool stuff for us instead, things you can’t get anywhere else. That site is currently called writersandartistsapparel.com
I’m doing all of this while literally fielding calls from doctors, records people, lab techs screaming for study files… breathing.

    Hi Everyone.
I’m Adite Banerjie, screenwriter and author from New Delhi/Mumbai. Yeah, in case that sounds strange, it’s coz I have started dividing my time between the two cities. Last year, I decided that I need to be “seen” in the city where movies are made. And guess what, it’s already giving my screenwriting a whole new focus. Networking is a two way thing and it always helps to make connections, right? So, I’m walking the talk, so to speak. I have written a handful of scripts. One of my first scripts even made it as a semi-finalist in the Nicholl’s. I have also written several books (mostly in the romance space). The rights to my rom-thriller have been bought by a Mumbai based prodco and will (hopefully soon) be broadcast on an OTT channel as a TV series. I’m looking forward to sharpening my rom-com skills in this class and creating some awesome feel good scripts along with you all. Cheers.

You’re doing great. Bollywood. In Chennai, there is Kollywood (in Kodambakkam) for Tamil movies. People may not know that India has the largest movie industry in the world, partly because of the many languages for which they need movies. Also we know people from Iran and Africa who just love Indian movies. Can’t get enough of them.

My nephew in India was into movies until his mom steered him into a more certain career (he’s in Australia now).

I wrote a Harlequin type romance novella set in India decades ago (published), THE MARRIAGE SEASON. I haven’t yet felt the call to write a screenplay set in India, but who knows…

Absolutely right, Lynn. And it's getting even more vibrant with movies made in Hyderabad becoming huge international blockbusters – RRR is just one example. 🙂 I wrote a couple of Harlequin books too. You should try your hand at writing some scripts for the Indian market 🙂

    Hello,
My name is Constance Barr (Connie).
I am working on my 13th script which is a Rom-Com. I am an incurable romantic who loves Rom-Coms. One of my scripts is optioned with a small producer in the UK. We recently completed a rewrite and he is preparing to seek financing and talent for the project.
After completing this class, I hope to have gained a stronger knowledge of creating wonderfully unique Rom-Coms.
Something unique about me is that I have been a practicing Buddhist for 50 years (the same one as Tina Turner).

    Hi All!
    1. I’m Missy Cohen-Fyffe
    2. I’ve written 13 scripts. Two have been produced, four have been optioned, and one garnered me representation (a manager), but she is taking a step back from the biz this year to focus on caring for her husband.
    3. I’m taking this class because I love rom-coms and need a bit of a kick in the pants to get this particular one written. I can always count on Hal to motivate me.
    4. I have naturally curly hair. And a dozen patents and trademarks for baby products I produced many moons ago.

Many scripts, mostly specs for TV.

    I want to finish a rom-com I started

I think I am high functioning autistic (not tested, but therapist thinks so). At any rate, I think not fitting in and seeing things in a different way could be advantages if I can get words on the page.

    Hi, all.
    My name is SD McGee
I have written two feature length scripts and a handful of short scripts.
I expect to be a better screenwriter a month from now.
I am a recently retired golf professional, turning 70 in a couple months, and have chosen screenwriting as my encore career. Can’t think of a better way to spend the next ⅓ of my life.

    Hi all,
    Harry here.
I’ve written six scripts to completion, with many embryos in the nest…. One script optioned.
I write a mixture of Film and TV and various genres.

Currently I am half way through the WIM+AI course and started on the new Bingeworthy TV course, so I will be taking it slow on this comedy one. Please bear with me… I will likely not actually start this one for a while. Hoping to get more insights into writing comedy for film. My career includes time working in comedy department at BBC TV so I have to break away from that ‘British style’ too!

However, I’m happy to critique if you need someone’s fresh eyes!

Unique…? Well, I live on a boat on the river Thames. Not really unique – I met Simon Beaufoy (IMDB) when his houseboat was being repaired next to mine…Just before Slumdog Millionaire was released. I took it as a good omen!

Hello – I'm Lisa Paris Long – now from Virginia (but a bi-coastal native Cali girl)

    How many scripts you’ve written?
1 Thriller years ago, that sold but was never produced. Plus 1 Drama and 1 Rom-com from the SU WIM and Pro Series classes that are in various drafts.

What you hope to get out of the class?
Rom-coms are what I like to write and watch. I'm hoping to infuse more comedy into my Rom-com scripts by taking this class.

Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you?
I started as an actress in theater. I graduated NYU Film school. My final NYU film starred Patrick Dempsey. I traveled the world with Disney on Ice… primarily in Asia (Staff, not a skater). A near death experience a couple of years ago brought me back to screenwriting.

Hello! I’m Patricia Brown, also known as P.B.Pencraft. After 30 years of practicing law in California, I’ve given up legal briefs and political essays for Italian and screenwriting lessons.
I’ve been the beneficiary of all of Hal and Cheryl’s excellent, extensive expertise for years. Got my contained, coming of age, and comedic scripts in various stages as a result of WIM-3 class.
What I want to get out of this class?
Belly laughs, chuckles, setups with punchlines, pratfalls, hilarity, a sellable ROM-Com…and an Italian lover named Matteo.

After being twice-blessed by the Dalai Lama, I won a contest to go around the world on the Concorde. I was pregnant as we circumnavigated the earth in a day and a half. It is a small world after all. And we’re all worthy of a little romance.

    Hi! I’m Joy Geldard-Smith

I’ve written a bunch of scripts, but haven’t really marketed them (and yes, I am in the Marketing Class – so grateful for that!). I’ve got two completed romcoms and another one on the go, as well as the one we’ll create in this class.

I hope to get my best romcom to date out of this class, as well as a framework that will allow me to consistently create exceptional romcoms that get produced! (Not asking for much, I know!)

I’m from Yorkshire in the UK, I used to run a handmade jewelry business and also a handmade soap business. When people ask why I love romcoms, I say that I fell in love at a bus stop, and if you can find love there, it can be anywhere!

    Hi!
    My name is Lee Tidball

I've written at least a dozens screenplays.

I hope that in this course I'll learn some tools for writing rom-coms because it's a popular genre and I have a goal to sell a screenplay at some point in the future, and the first rule of that is to write something that's marketable. I'm not into the Hallmark thing, but I don't think they're the only ones needing rom-coms. That said, I'm working on an action script right now for another SU class, so I'll basically be auditing this class, going through the lessons, etc., being on the phone calls, etc., but I'll have to spend my work time on the other class.

It's good to share this time with everyone!

Hi, fellow writers, this is Jess Paxton, and I have been writing screenplays for about ten years. I have three which I think are marketable: a short (30 min) drama, a sci-fi based on a friend’s published novel (Yes, I have his permission), and a Rom-Com which I hope to improve in this class. I have also begun two thrillers, an epic, and a mystery/comedy.
I’m hoping this class can supply me with fresh ideas I can use in my Rom-Com.
The most unusual thing about me is that, as a youth in the 1960s and 70s, I spent seven years hitchhiking, hopping freights, and hiking around the USA.
I hope we can all come out of this class with a marketable project! Good luck!

G'day everyone, Brenda Clarke here from Down Under. glad to be a part of this class.
I have written several feature films and a couple of shorts. I mainly write true stories or works that feature female characters.
Even thought I don't consider Rom Com's to be a genre that I want to specialise in, I feel that I need to incorporate humour/comedy into the rest of my work and thought this class would give me some insight.
I have a background in the performing arts working as an Actress/Presenter both in Australia, UK/West End.
I’m joining late as I recently returned from a road trip up to the Murray River checking out Paddle Steamer Boats! Catching UP with first lesson just now 🙂

    Cheers, 🙂

    3. What do you hope to get out of the class? I would like to learn Hal’s method for writing a successful Rom-Com.
    4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you? I seem to have a belief that I do not like Rom-Coms. I don’t think I’ve watched one in 15 years! However, I was working on a concept in the WIM class that would not leave me alone until I considered it as a Rom-Com. So, when I saw that Hal was offering this class, the timing seemed perfect. I’m not sure I really believe in romantic love, either, so I’m hoping that taking this class will change that belief, too! I look forward to working with you all!
