    Tell us the following:
    1. Name?
    2. How many scripts you've written?

Hi, everyone! I’m Ann Jordan. To date, I've written a number of partial scripts, and finished a total of one. That’s actually part of what I want to get out of this class: Motivation to keep working and finish up my current project! More than that, though, I'm really impressed with this Thriller template, and I want to learn how to use it because it seems broadly applicable to a lot of feature projects.

As for my unique or unusual feature: I realized recently that at least as an adult, I've never voluntarily written any fiction that didn't have some fantastical or science fiction element. I grew up reading science fiction and fantasy from an early age, and I guess it shaped my subconscious. As an example, the thriller project I hope to work on in this class has a supernatural element. It looks like that’s just how I roll!

Hi everyone! How lovely to meet you all.

I'm Liz Holliday, and I am from London (in England, not Canada!)

I have two finished movie scripts (though I'm about to try to punch one of them up a bit – it needs to be funnier than it is); two TV pilots – one finished and one nearly finished; and a couple of short films, one of which was produced as part of the London Screenwriters' Festival anthology project, The Impact. I have an MA (with Distinction) in Screenwriting from the London College of Communication.

However, I've come to screenwriting from a background in fiction (like Ann, who introduced herself earlier, I mostly write science fiction and fantasy, but with a side-order of crime). I've had quite a lot of short stories published, including one that was adapted for TV and was first runner up for the Crime Writers' Association best short story of the year award (Ian Rankin won. Ian Rankin would), and another that was in an anthology that won the Bram Stoker award for Year's Best Anthology. Back in the day, I wrote 10 official novelisations of British TV shows. I've also written a lot of journalism, for games (missions, background, dialogue etc), and all sorts of other bits and pieces. Basically, if it comes with words I've probably written it, and if I haven't written it yet, I'm probably going to.

What do I want to get out of this course? A better handle on the thriller genre, and – with a huge amount of luck and hard work – a plan for a new, budget-friendly thriller script. (Since I don't have an idea for a thriller movie, that's a big ask. I do have several ideas for TV pilots, but not sure if the course works for those, and the TV business is very different over here anyway.)

Weird or interesting thing about me? I was once in the Guinness Book of Records for playing Dungeons and Dragons for 84 hours straight, no sleep allowed.

Hi, I’m Jackie and I have been busy not writing. As my full time job is being outsourced, I have decided its time to take up writing again and see where it leads me while I’m job hunting. I’m a lawyer so writing mostly in the legal thriller genre. I’m taking this course to see if it will boost my writing and creativity. I used to live in Colorado and belonged to several fiction writer groups. But now I live in Alabama and don’t have as much access. I’m tired of writing policy and procedure as a lawyer and want to write fiction!! Looking forward to the class.

I’m Tom Wilson. A foreign war veteran, I helped design space missions at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, completed two scripts and look forward to writing better thrillers while taking this class.

Hey, my name’s Mike, living in exile in Stephen King country. I’ve written the beginning of five scripts or so. I’m hoping to use this class to focus my current script and keep me motivated to finish it.

What’s unique about me is I know every note of Check Your Head by The Beastie Boys by heart.

    Hi, everyone!

I’m Diane Caldwell and I’m really enjoying this class so far. It’s great meeting everyone here. I’ve written two partial movie scripts that I’m hoping to salvage if I can get my hard drive repaired, but if not, I’m just going to keep on writing new scripts. I have one sitcom pilot and series bible completed and am starting another sitcom. Hollywood has called me once, but that project did not move forward. What I hope to get out of this class is successful application of all the valuable information I’m learning here so I will create scripts that get produced and appear on big and small screens throughout this reality.

I’m a recovering lawyer and something unique about me: I wanted to take some classes with ScreenwritingU so I could learn to proceed without getting too attached to what I was writing, especially the first draft. Just watch the videos, read the lessons and write without attachment or fear. Since the thriller genre is not my favorite movie genre (but I love thriller fiction—another unusual thing about me), I thought the thriller class would be the best place for me to start and move forward in my entertainment writing career without trepidation . . . and it’s working so far! Having lots of fun with it.

Here’s a link to one of my all-time favorite movies, free to watch online, the thriller Duel, written by Richard Matheson and directed by Steven Spielberg. I think it’s the best thriller movie ever made. I’m still on the edge of my seat and feeling anxious every time I watch it. Enjoy!
