Emmanuel Sullivan’s Amazing Inciting Incident
What I learned doing this assignment is the inciting incident must be compelling enough to keep the viewer interested to watch the first episode and came back for at least the second and future episodes, provided each one has an inciting incident.

Daniel Melin’s Amazing Inciting Incident
What I learned doing this assignment is the value of deliberately coming up with the most intriguing part of the show first, and then going backwards to cover up all the most interesting material with Act 1. It reinforces the discipline of always assuming that there is something more under the surface.
· Intriguing Concept: An aspiring magician decides to lift a curse his mentor has laid by mastering newer, darker magic, while navigating the magical underworld that threatens to consume his small, Midwestern City.
· Act 1: Levi works for his friend’s contracting company, which he finds unfulfilling and spends his nights in the fairy realm of Everlasting Summer, hunting in the woods and learning magic.
· Midpoint: Levi finds out that one of Titania’s wolves broke into Athens through the portal he opened, and that he was actually a werewolf.
· Lock-In: Levi agrees to study with Mark, and figure out a way to lift Titania’s curse.

What I learned doing this assignment is to outline my stories key points.
Inciting Incident: When Sam falls into a coma, his son Carlton arrives to take over his affairs and oust Grace from his life. Grace launches an investigation and uncovers information that places her life in danger.
Intriguing concept: What secrets are revealed in Grace’s past life to link her with Sam and Carlton and place her in danger?
Act 1: Sam falls into a coma and Grace must face his estranged son.
Midpoint: Grace hires an investigator Wilson who uncovers financial information that links Carlton and Sam with a powerful political network.
Lock In: A reluctant psychic next door rescues Grace from being killed and transports her to her past life to find answers.

What I learned doing this assignment is that I thought my lock in would be presented at the start of the episode and would be the double murder and disappearance, but now using the formulas I’m adding in material and working in the opposite direction.
Intriguing
Concept:After her ambitions are thwarted, Jess Pearson, a big city senior detective accepts a transfer to a remote jurisdiction. Within a day of her arrival, she’s sent to investigate the brutal murder of a married couple and the disappearance of their friend, Luke Smith, in similar circumstances to that of her brother Adam’s disappearance five years before and in the same small town, Green Lake, where her family used to summer vacation. Can Jess quickly solve both cases to become the Sheriff elect while bringing her brother home? And can she learn to live with the locals especially her one true love, Sarah Watson, architect and artist on a mission to green Green Lake.
Act 1:
Jess is presented as a Big City Detective who has been denied a promotion, but offered another opportunity. She relocates to a remote jurisdiction. Within a day of her arrival, she’s sent to investigate the brutal murder of a married couple and the disappearance of their friend, Luke Smith, in the same small town, Green Lake, where her family used to summer vacation.
Midpoint:
Jess believes that Sherriff Linda Moore botched the investigation of her brother’s disappearance in similar circumstances five years before and is determined to solve both cases with or without the Sheriff’s help.
As Jess reads file after file hidden away in the basement, she begins to realize that Green Lake is not the sleepy town she thought it was. Crime rates are high, yet the reported statistics are low. Jess starts searching the office and discovers Sheriff Moore’s little black book of actual crime statistics, now she suspects that the Sheriff is corrupt.
Lock In:
Against her better judgement, Jess uses her secret hacking skills that got her reassigned and soon uncovers a local Trafficking Network that may be connected to the recent murders and unsolved cases, including her brother, Adam’s. She goes along on a planned meet up to find out who is involved.

Renee Brown’ s Amazing Inciting Incident
Aliens’ Earth
I learned from this assignment not to get ahead of myself about how this Pilot is to look.
Intriguing Concept: Alien factions who have inhabited earth for eons must unite to keep humanity in the dark when a strange planet parks next to earth and blows everyone’s cover.
Act 1: Tallas in his underground sanctuary. He is conducting a psychic training ceremony with a handful of initiates. They as ask him about the prophecy, he dodges. Escapes to private chamber -not to be disturbed.
Midpoint: Dauntus decides to use the chaos of the newly arrived planet to come out of the clouds and dominate humanity. Anauk and Saltar get to Tallas, and they all go to Steelman.
Lock In: After breaking interspecies agreements, pulling the wool over humanity’s and the US President’s eyes and having been summoned to the dark side of the moon for an emergency meeting of the XUS, this unlikely group can no longer stand apart.

Donna Stockwell’s Amazing Inciting Incident
What I learned doing this assignment is I brought events of the first season into the pilot to make it more intriguing and binge-worthy.
Intriguing Concept = A hardworking family man loses his wife to the attention of his daughter’s boyfriend.
Act 1 = Family man and home-security salesman sees his life as a servant as he is berated by his overbearing wife and unrolling children and power-monger female boss. He feels the need to control a woman to feel like a man, and she ends up dead.
Midpoint = He buries the woman secretly beside his dead mother who is being caressed by his brother, and goes home to his wife feeling like he can now conquer her, but finds evidence of her affair.
Lock In = Since his heart is once again crushed, he uses his position as a security salesman to find and conquer another woman to get the courage to confront his wife/life… and escape being caught by his brother or the authorities. -

What I learned from doing this assignment is the BW process reveals its strengths at every turn. If you trust and stick to it, it gets easier. Painting by numbers. The amazing thing is that you can improve at any time. Just don’t get caught up in perfection… I got lost in it for one lesson, that wasn’t fun… painful.
Inciting Incident
Intriguing Concept: Simone is going to take down Senator Green to protect her family and save their only asset – Edgemont Hotel.
Act 1: Simone is presented as a mother, daughter who runs, prays, and hears a spiritual voice throughout the mystical mountains around Edgemont. The homeless kids that she plays “mother” to take her for granted. She feeds the wolves that watch over her as she talks to the voice.
Midpoint: Simone discovers the developers meeting over dinner to buy Edgemont are there to kill her so that King can sell Edgemont over her dead body.
Lock-In: After saving her life by killing several of the fake developers and taking one prisoner, Simone realizes she must return to being an assassin to kill Senator Green before it’s too late. She’s going to save her family and Edgemont by becoming the leader she’s always hated.
