    Dean's Horror Plot

What I learned doing this assignment is the importance of outlining a plot to help prevent plot holes. Or if this was a highway movie or a joint movie: Pot holes. ;oP

    MYST

ACT 1 — SET UP FOR HORROR

This isn’t the first town this happens to, so we see the horrific end of the previous town. The governor receives a report, but chooses to keep everything quiet, fearing any bad news will ruin his chance of re-election. His aide promises him that Mr. Hargrove will keep everything under wraps. A dense mist rolls into Eldergrove, creating an eerie, muffled silence and reducing visibility, immediately unsettling the villagers and foreshadowing danger.

Connect with the characters: The story introduces Anna, Marcus, Claire, Daniel, and Dr. Evelyn Hart, revealing glimpses of their fears and regrets, establishing their humanity and vulnerability.

The characters are warned not to do it: They realize that stepping into the mist means disappearance, leading them to warn each other to stay inside and avoid the Myst at all costs.

Denial of Horror: Despite initial disappearances, the villagers believe it could all just be a case of getting lost. Some are hesitant to accept the supernatural explanation.

Safety taken away: As more people vanish, fear grips the village, and the safety of their homes is no longer guaranteed as the mist presses against windows and doors.

Monster: The nature of the beast: The Myst reveals itself to be more than just a fog—it whispers, stalks, and feeds on fear, loneliness, and despair.

ACT 2 — THE POINT OF NO RETURN

Isolated / Trapped / Abducted: The villagers gather in the village hall, realizing there is nowhere left to go as the Myst surrounds them. They are effectively trapped, isolated from the outside world.

One of us killed: Marcus, tormented by the voice of his late wife, steps into the mist and vanishes. His disappearance further deepens the sense of hopelessness.

MIDPOINT: The monster is worse than we thought! The survivors learn that the Myst feeds on emotional disconnection and despair, using their fears against them and driving them apart.

Full pursuit by the killer: The Myst takes on increasingly sinister forms, pressing against the windows, scratching at doors, and finding ways to drive wedges between the survivors.

Terrorized: The survivors are terrorized as their own fears, regrets, and loneliness are brought to the forefront. Paranoia sets in, breaking the fragile unity they had formed.

ACT 3 — FULL OUT HORROR

Fight to the death: Anna tries desperately to hold on to hope and fight against the despair that the Myst feeds on. She reaches out to Daniel, trying to convince him to resist the whispers.

Hysteria: The survivors are pushed to the brink of hysteria as the Myst grows stronger. Daniel, overwhelmed by guilt, succumbs to the mist, believing it is Anna the Myst wants.

The thrilling escape from death: Anna runs back to her house to save her son, but the house is empty, and the mist has already taken him. She tries to fight but realizes there is no escape.

Death returns to take one or more: In the end, Anna hears her son's voice calling to her from within the mist. She steps into it, disappearing like the others, leaving the village empty.

Resolution: Days later, a government team arrives, accompanied by Mr. Hargrove, who quickly takes ownership of the empty village. The scene shifts to a new town where the Myst begins to roll in again, with two scientists observing and confirming the continuation of Mr. Hargrove's exploitation—revealing the insidious, never-ending cycle.

    Dave Wetzel’s Horror Plot

What I learned doing this assignment is that classic horror scripts generally follow the same Elizabethan 3 – Act structure of most American dramatic works where Act 1 sets the scene and introduces characters, Act 2 builds tension with rising action and key conflicts, and Act 3 delivers the climax and resolution.

ACT 1 — SET UP FOR HORROR

    • Atmosphere of Evil established – One of the students at the school is killed in a horror manner. The school is buzzing with the news, the dean of the school and Jennifer Weatherly try to calm the uneasy students. It seems to happen in multiple instances at the school every twenty years.

    • Connect with the characters – The gang discreetly discusses the grisly murder during study hall, the janitor, “Nearest,” overhears them.

    • The characters are warned not to do it. – Jennifer and Nearest warns the gang not to try to get involved in the murder investigation.

    • Denial of Horror – The dean of the school and Deacon Malum informs the students that the unfortunate death of the student was simply a terrible accident and not a murder.

    • Safety taken away – The boat the ferries the students back to the mainland from the island has mysteriously suffered inoperable damage. The current weather conditions are too rough for other boats to come or for any aerial landings.

    • Monster – The nature of the beast. Jennifer and Nearest begin to explore the legend of the school and uncover accounts to the monster from previous attacks years ago.

ACT 2 — THE POINT OF NO RETURN

    • Isolated / Trapped / Abducted – The current weather conditions are too rough for other boats to come or for any aerial landings

    • One of us killed – another student is killed and Tom Roberts in the gang is almost killed too. Jennifer manifests her synesthesia abilities to observe a red “aura” around Deacon Malum.

MIDPOINT: The monster is worse than we thought!

    • Full pursuit by the killer – Jennifer, and the gang follow Deacon Malum into the bowels of the school and observe him summoning the demon “Yog-Sothoth,” from a portal to hell.

    • Terrorized – Deacon Malum orders the demon to hunt down and kill the gang.

ACT 3 — FULL OUT HORROR

    • Fight to the death – The demon kills another student while searching for Jennifer and the gang.

    • Hysteria – Jennifer, Nearest and the gang try to kill the demon but fail and barely escape annihilation by seeking refuge in the school chapel. Nearest regains his faith in God and a statue in the image Saint Michael the Archangel warrior angel gifts Nearest with the sword that he’s holding in the stature. Theres also a painting behind the statue of Saint Michael with his army of Archangels battling demons from hell.

    • The thrilling escape from death – Jennifer, Nearest and the gang fight the demon, and he’s badly wounded by the newly gifted sword of Saint Michael. Deacon Malum is killed by Nearest in a battle in the bowels of the school.

    • Death returns to take one or more. – Nearest is killed by the demon as Nearest sacrifices himself to allow the gang and Jennifer to escape death.

    • Resolution – Jennifer and the gang recover from the battle as the weather clears and boats and police and once again are able to cross the waters to the island. Jennifer is alone in the chapel and observes to her astonishment the Nearest now appears to be in the painting of Saint Michael battling demons.

    Tim Barley's Horror Plot

What I learned from this was that I really enjoyed this lesson. It was a great to create the beats, which I always have trouble remember to do rather than just jump into writing!

ACT 1 — SET UP FOR HORROR
    Atmosphere of Evil Established:
We open with Vivian’s original self being slowly replaced by her reflection 10 years ago, after becoming obsessed with her image in the mirror. Her doppelgänger takes over her life, and she rises to fame as an influencer, but it was never her—only her sinister reflection.

    Connect with the Characters:
The group of influencers arrives at the house, each engrossed in their social media personas, filming, posting, and obsessing over their image. We see their personal flaws, from Mason's arrogance to Lily's insecurity, as they prepare for the retreat.

The Characters are Warned Not to Do It:
Conrad, the mysterious groundskeeper, warns them about the house, mentioning strange occurrences and people disappearing. They brush it off as local superstition, convinced that this retreat is just another branding opportunity. (see denial)

    Denial of Horror:
When the reflections first start behaving strangely—shifting when no one moves, smiling when the real person doesn’t—the group writes it off as exhaustion or stress, or drugs. Accusations fly, but they are too busy chasing likes and followers to notice the creeping danger.

    Safety Taken Away:
The storm cuts off their phone service and Wi-Fi, leaving them completely isolated. At first, they joke about “going dark,” but the unsettling realization that they are truly cut off begins to sink in.

Monster: The Nature of the Beast:
Brooke is the first to fall, pulled into a mirror during a moment of vanity. Her doppelgänger emerges the next day, acting perfectly normal. The group remains oblivious to the true horror lurking within the reflections.

ACT 2 — THE POINT OF NO RETURN
    Isolated / Trapped / Abducted:
The house turns hostile as reflective surfaces—mirrors, windows, the ocean—begin reflecting eerie, twisted versions of the influencers. They realize they are completely trapped by the storm, and the windows feel like eyes watching their every move.

    One of Us Killed:
Jonah’s arrogance is his undoing. Alone, he is dragged into the pool by his reflection, and his doppelgänger rises from the water. His body briefly floats, seen by someone but when the others return, it’s gone—replaced by a perfect imitation of Jonah.

MIDPOINT — THE MONSTER IS WORSE THAN WE THOUGHT!
    Full Pursuit by the Killer:
The doppelgängers are now fully hunting the group, gaining strength with each reflection the influencers interact with. Every glance into a mirror or window pulls the doppelgängers closer, until they begin stalking the group in full.

    Terrorized:
As more characters are replaced, paranoia grips the survivors. They destroy mirrors, but reflective surfaces keep multiplying, and the doppelgängers hunt them down with terrifying precision. Tyler’s warnings about reflections are ignored, making him an outsider even as his theories prove true.

ACT 3 — FULL OUT HORROR
    Fight to the Death:
Tyler, Lily, and Zara (or Mason) make a final stand, attempting to destroy all the mirrors in the house. In a surreal mirror-world sequence, Tyler faces his own doppelgänger and manages to kill it, breaking free and returning to the real world.

    Hysteria:
By this point, the remaining characters are in full breakdown mode, unable to tell who is real and who has been replaced. Friend turns on friend as suspicions run wild, with everyone a potential threat.

    The Thrilling Escape from Death:
The survivors narrowly evade death, smashing the last mirrors and reflective surfaces. They think they’ve ended the nightmare as they flee into the storm, believing they’ve won the battle against the doppelgängers.

Death Returns to Take One or More:
Just as the remaining characters believe they’re safe, one of them—perhaps Zara or Mason—reveals their true nature. They’ve already been replaced by a doppelgänger, launching one final deadly attack.

    Resolution:
Tyler survives, but he is forever changed. As he stands alone, the reflection of the house in the ocean’s surface subtly shows his own reflection staring back, hinting that his doppelgänger might still be out there, waiting to strike.

    Alison’s Horror Plot

What I learned doing this assignment is this was fun!

ACT 1 — SET UP FOR HORROR

Atmosphere of Evil established: The movie opens with the old guard stalking an unseen victim in a museum, guiding them toward the cursed painting.

Connect with the characters: We meet the six college students and their art history professor. They’re excited about spending the night in the museum, thinking it’s a harmless opportunity for extra credit.

The night guard (the monster) casually warns the students not to turn around if they hear footsteps. He jokes with them, saying, “Something might happen if you do.” They laugh it off, thinking he’s just messing with them.

Denial of Horror: The students joke about the night guard’s strange comment about “not turning around,” brushing it off as an attempt to scare them. They dismiss the idea that anything bad could happen in the museum and focus on their research, unaware of the lurking danger.

Safety taken away: As soon as the museum doors lock at 8 PM, they realize they are trapped until morning. The professor’s keycard fails, and the power begins to flicker ominously.

Monster: The nature of the beast: The old guard makes subtle appearances, always lingering in the shadows or reflecting in mirrors, pushing the students closer to the cursed painting. Strange sounds echo through the museum as they begin to feel uneasy.

ACT 2 — THE POINT OF NO RETURN

Isolated / Trapped / Abducted: The students split up to explore the museum and investigate strange noises. As they wander the dark hallways, they realize there’s no way out, and the museum has become a labyrinth.

One of us killed: One of the students approaches the cursed painting and becomes mesmerized. The group watches in horror as the student disappears into the painting, leaving behind a faint dot of paint. The others panic and try to find a way to escape.

MIDPOINT — THE MONSTER IS WORSE THAN WE THOUGHT

Full pursuit by the killer: The old guard stalks them more aggressively, cornering them and leading them closer to the cursed painting. Every time they try to turn away, they hear footsteps or feel the old guard’s presence behind them.

Terrorized: The students are now in full survival mode. They’re being chased through the museum, haunted by the guard’s eerie laughter, the whispers of the painting, and the looming threat of being consumed by it.

ACT 3 — FULL OUT HORROR

Fight to the death: The remaining students try to fight off the old guard, but physical attacks are useless. Claire and Derek, the lovers, try to destroy the painting but are pulled into its power. Derek sacrifices himself to protect Claire, but she ends up caught as well.

Hysteria: The students are breaking down emotionally. Claire screams in terror as she watches Derek disappear into the painting, leaving her nearly paralyzed with fear. Emily, the blind student, is the only one able to stay calm as she can’t see the painting’s allure.

The thrilling escape from death: Emily manages to outmaneuver the guard, avoiding both his traps and the painting’s pull. She narrowly escapes his grasp, feeling her way out of the museum.

Death returns to take one or more: Just as Emily thinks she’s safe, she hears the old guard’s footsteps behind her one last time.

Resolution: Emily survives until morning when the museum doors unlock, but she is traumatized by the experience. As she steps outside, we see a subtle change in the painting on the museum wall

    Diane’s Horror Plot

What I learned doing this assignment is that it’s so easy to come up with other ideas for the deaths and mayhem so doing an outline to track the plot will make writing the script so much easier. So much more efficient! And it’ll be fairly easy to revise the plot track when the next track introduces more horrific ideas to add in.

    Create your plot.

Knowing your concept, fill in one or two sentences for each of the plot points.

ACT 1 — SET UP FOR HORROR
    • Atmosphere of Evil established — The group is on a tour of the basement levels of Alcatraz prison where myths and rumors of prison torture and deaths are reputed to have occurred. The group’s leader spots a crumbling wall and encourage the group to sneak off the tour and go see what’s behind the crumbled wall.
    • Connect with the characters — The members of the group are excited to be on the island and exploring a notorious site of their hobby. They bring different personalities and knowledge of the location.
    • The characters are warned not to do it — One of them go off-tour and look behind the opening of the broken wall. It’s a hallway! The tour guide admonished him to stay on the tour. It’s easy to get lost in the “catacombs” where the worst punishments were carried out. Stay on the designated tour route and they will be fine.
    • Denial of Horror — Of course, none of the group believe anything will happen on the prison that has been closed since 1963 and is now a State Park for goodness’ sake.
    • Safety taken away — The talk themselves into going off tour and exploring the discovered hallway. The fall behind the rest of the tour group and sneak over to the secret hallway and find the wall covering the hallway is easy to shove out of the way and for all to enter. They’re careful to make it appear as though the “door” is still there so nobody knows they are exploring. When they get deep into the hallway, even though they went straight in, they can’t find the entrance. There are passages of stairs leading down, but they can’t find the way out.
    • Monster: The nature of the beast — There is a sudden rush of water, from where they can’t tell, that rises up over knee deep. Their footing becomes unsteady and one of the group falls under the water, comes up and screams that “it’s got me” and disappears.

ACT 2 — THE POINT OF NO RETURN
    • Isolated / Trapped / Abducted — Unable to find a way out, the group decides to try to find a new way out. After all, the “Great Escape” guys found a way out. We can too.
    • One of us killed — With the water gone, they find the body of the one who was washed away. He has markings that look as if he were strangled, but they figure it must have been a fluke and he actually drowned.

MIDPOINT: The monster is worse than we thought!
    • Full pursuit by the killer — Another flood of water rises seeming through the floor. It’s not coming from anywhere other than the floor. They look for higher ground. They find a stairway and go up it. Most are out of the water. The water begins to swirl and the swirling water grabs one of the group and pulls him down into the dark water. He comes up for air, screams, and the water shapes into a hand and covers his mouth. With eyes wide, scream muffled, the rest of the group watches as he’s pulled into the water and disappears.
    • Terrorized — The group is terrified! They have to find a way out and find a way to fight the water when it comes for them again.

ACT 3 — FULL OUT HORROR
    • Fight to the death — Remaining group members select a hallway and move quickly as they look for a way out. Splashing approaches them, it’s water, water hands are dragging a wall of water toward the group. They dig at the walls to find a loose area that might be able to break away. The water reaches them and grabs another member who screams and holds onto other members, the tug-of-war against the pull of the water. They are all being dragged down the hall and toward a stairway leading down. The group loses their grip and the water drags the trapped guy down the stairway.
    • Hysteria — Everyone is stunned. There’s no way out! It’s just a matter of time until all are taken by the water.
    • The thrilling escape from death — “There’s no way up, let’s go down. Follow the water. See where it comes from. Maybe there’s an access to the bay outside.” Without any other ideas, the remaining members start down the stairs. Slowly at first, then faster once they hear “normal” water washing over rocks.
    • Death returns to take one or more — Running now as fast as they can in the dark by the light of their phones, the lead runner stops. Their dead friends are lined up with skeletal remains. Four wear the prison uniforms of the Great Escape escapees. The others are older with rotting pirate-looking boots and scraps of clothing and hats. And, corroded swords.
    • Resolution — The group leader picks up a sword and the water screams! The others grab whatever then can that could be a weapon. Water begins to blow in their direction. The closer they get to the rocks where the bay water is lapping over them, the harder the water tries to push them back. Suddenly the water stops and all is quiet except for the voice of the tag-along member who is loudly chanting a remedy of a pirate curse. The remaining members turn. Tag-along keeps chanting, but not as loudly. Then stops at the end of the chant. All is now quiet. “We can go now,” says tag-along. “There’s no way out here. We can go back the way we entered.”

    Micki’s Horror Plot

What I learned doing this assignment is this is fun. I did a 3 and 4 Acts. Seeing the movie as I do the plot with the characters, can’t and to start writing the script.

ACT 1: SET UP FOR HORROR in “The Mirrorbound Hotel”

    1. Atmosphere of Evil Established

The film opens with ominous shots of the Mirrorbound Hotel, a grand but decaying structure in an isolated, eerie landscape. The hotel only appears on Friday the 13th, drawing in unsuspecting guests who see it as a luxurious, hidden getaway. The atmosphere is foreboding—long, dark hallways, strange creaks, and reflections everywhere. Even before the characters arrive, there’s an unsettling sense that something is watching, lurking in the mirrors.

The audience Is immediately made aware of the hotel’s dark, cursed history—flashbacks of previous guests who mysteriously disappeared after looking into mirrors.

    2. Connect with the Characters

As the guests arrive, we meet our group of six to eight characters:

Maya (Leader): A strong, pragmatic woman who booked the trip to help the group unwind.

Liam (Moral One): Maya’s close friend, the moral compass of the group, and someone who believes in doing the right thing no matter what.

Jake (Rebel): A thrill-seeker, cocky and dismissive of rules.

Emily (Innocent): A kind and artistic soul, eager for inspiration.

Danielle (Complainer): The one who is constantly dissatisfied with everything.

Ben (Sacrificial Lamb): The easygoing, innocent one who is the first to die.

Their personalities are fleshed out as they settle in, unaware of the sinister forces they’re about to encounter.

    3. The Characters Are Warned Not to Do It

The hotel’s eerie caretaker gives a chilling warning: “Whatever you do, don’t look in the mirrors.” He explains in cryptic terms that there’s an ancient curse tied to the hotel. Looking into a mirror allows the creature, a sinister force that exists within the mirrors, to steal a piece of the viewer’s body and soul. But the guests laugh it off, thinking it’s just a quirky myth or a way to add mystery to the hotel’s reputation.

They brush off the warning, with characters like Jake and Danielle making fun of it. Maya, being rational, is intrigued but skeptical.

    4. Denial of Horror

Initially, the guests experience normal vacation fun—drinking, chatting, and relaxing. They start feeling comfortable in the luxurious hotel, the unsettling atmosphere slipping away. This lulls them, and the audience, into a false sense of security. When one of the characters, Ben, catches a glimpse of himself in the mirror while brushing his teeth, nothing seems to happen at first.

The characters dismiss the warning again, thinking the idea of a mirror-bound creature is absurd. Even strange occurrences—Ben mentioning he feels off, or catching flickers in the corner of their vision—are explained away as tricks of the mind.

    5. Safety Taken Away

The illusion of safety shatters when Ben goes missing later that night. His absence is the first real indication that something is wrong. The group searches for him, but they can only find his reflection in one of the mirrors—his eyes missing. Panic spreads as the characters begin to realize the warning was real.

Suddenly, they notice that all reflective surfaces in the hotel start behaving strangely. The reflections move slightly out of sync, or show things that aren’t really there. Safety disappears as they realize the mirrors aren’t just showing their reflections—they’re showing something else watching them.

    6. Monster: The Nature of the Beast

The true nature of the mirror-bound creature is hinted at but not fully revealed. It is a malevolent force that exists within the hotel’s mirrors, an ancient beast bound to the building by dark rituals from centuries ago. It can only act when someone gazes into a reflective surface. Once they do, the creature can steal a part of their body—eyes, hands, limbs—or worse, their life force, dragging them into the mirrored world to consume them.

The monster Is ancient, tied to the hotel’s cursed history, feeding off vanity and curiosity. It is intelligent, hunting its victims psychologically by playing on their fears before physically tearing them apart, piece by piece.

    Cliffhanger for Act 1:

Ben’s gruesome fate sets the stage for Act 2. The group realizes they are trapped in the hotel, and the mirrors are now a portal to something far worse than they ever imagined.
ACT 2: THE POINT OF NO RETURN in “The Mirrorbound Hotel”

    1. Isolated / Trapped / Abducted

After Ben’s disappearance, the group frantically tries to leave the hotel. Maya takes the lead, attempting to organize an escape, but they soon discover that all exits are sealed—doors won’t open, and windows lead into endless reflections instead of the outside world. They’re not just trapped in the hotel—they’re trapped within its nightmarish, shifting mirror world. The hotel itself begins to distort, with hallways that lead nowhere and mirrors appearing in places that didn’t have them before. They can’t avoid their reflections for long.

    2. One of Us Killed

As panic escalates, Jake brushes off the danger, believing that Ben just wandered off and it’s all a prank. Ignoring the group’s growing fear, he looks into one of the mirrors, mocking the curse. Suddenly, the creature emerges from the reflection, dragging him partially into the mirror. His screams echo through the halls as the group watches helplessly while parts of his body—first his hands, then his eyes—are ripped away by the beast within. Jake is gruesomely killed, leaving his hollow body behind, his eyes now missing, just like Ben.

This death pushes the group to their breaking point. The realization sets in that the mirror-bound creature is real and far deadlier than they imagined.

    3. MIDPOINT: The Monster is Worse Than We Thought!

The group is now in full survival mode. Maya tries to break every mirror she can find, but the mirrors quickly reassemble themselves, multiplying in number. The hotel itself becomes a part of the creature, its reflective surfaces spreading across every room. The group soon realizes that the creature doesn’t just hunt them when they look into a mirror—it can now move freely within the mirrors and hunt them through their reflections, even in places they thought were safe.

Liam finds an old journal in the hotel’s library, revealing the creature’s history. It feeds on the vanity and fear of its victims, growing stronger with every piece of them it consumes. The beast’s power isn’t just limited to the physical—it can now invade their minds, creating horrific hallucinations that make them question what’s real. This is no longer about avoiding mirrors—the entire hotel is a weapon of terror.

    4. Full Pursuit by the Killer

With the monster fully unleashed, the group is pursued relentlessly through the labyrinthine hotel. It uses their deepest fears against them. Emily sees twisted versions of her own art coming to life, haunting her with grotesque, nightmarish visions. Danielle, always the complainer, is now overwhelmed by her fear of going insane, hearing whispers in every room, seeing her own reflection taunting her with her worst insecurities.

The creature is relentless, moving from reflection to reflection, picking off the group. The tension escalates as they are forced to face their fears head-on, knowing that one wrong glance could be their last. Maya and Liam try to hold the group together, but they’re all being terrorized in different ways, breaking down one by one.

    5. Terrorized

The survivors are pushed to their psychological and emotional limits. Every reflective surface becomes a potential threat—water, glass, even polished metal. They’re haunted by reflections of themselves, but distorted, grotesque versions. They see reflections of people they’ve lost, reflections of their darkest desires, and worst of all, reflections of their inevitable deaths.

With each moment, the hotel warps further, turning into a living, breathing nightmare. The line between what’s real and what’s a trick of the mirrors becomes blurry. The survivors know that death isn’t just coming—it’s a slow, torturous hunt. They are completely isolated, both physically and mentally, as the monster begins to close in for the final kill.

    Cliffhanger for Act 2:

As they attempt to fight back, they discover a mirror hidden in the hotel basement that seems to be the key to the creature’s power. But just as they prepare to destroy it, Emily disappears into the mirror world, leaving the others with the realization that they are running out of time—and allies.
ACT 3: FULL OUT HORROR in “The Mirrorbound Hotel”

    1. Fight to the Death

With Emily trapped in the mirror world and Jake dead, Maya and Liam rally the remaining survivors—Danielle, Hunter, and Alex—for one last desperate attempt to stop the creature. They realize that breaking the hidden mirror in the basement may be their only chance to defeat the beast. The group arms themselves with anything they can find—makeshift weapons from the hotel rooms and personal items—preparing for the final confrontation.

The hotel Itself fights back, with mirrors multiplying and distorting reality around them. As they descend to the basement, they face twisted versions of themselves and are constantly hunted by the creature. The group knows this is a fight to the death, but the deeper they go, the more they’re haunted by visions of their inevitable doom.

    2. Hysteria

The pressure mounts. Danielle starts to crack, overwhelmed by the constant mental torture. She begins to scream, claiming she can see her own reflection following her, laughing at her. Her fear of going insane manifests in violent outbursts, and she starts to doubt everyone around her. Hunter becomes erratic too, trying to smash every mirror in sight, but to no avail—each one just reforms moments later.

Mistrust brews as the group’s fragile unity shatters. Alex accuses Maya of leading them into a trap, convinced that the hidden mirror is a trick. They start turning on each other, but Liam pulls them back together, reminding them that if they don’t work as a team, they’re all going to die. The hysteria builds, but Maya’s determination holds them on course. They have no choice but to press on.

    3. The Thrilling Escape from Death

The group finally reaches the basement, but as they approach the hidden mirror, the creature launches its full assault. It steps fully out of the reflections, taking on a terrifying physical form—a monstrous, warped combination of all its previous victims. Its body is made up of pieces of those it has consumed, including the eyes, hands, and limbs of Jake and Emily.

The group fights desperately, but the creature is nearly unstoppable, phasing in and out of the mirrors. Hunter tries to attack, only to be pulled into a mirror and gruesomely killed. His limbs are torn off, his screams echoing through the basement as his body is dragged into the reflection. The group narrowly escapes, retreating behind a corner as the creature stalks them.

Maya spots the hidden mirror glowing ominously in the corner of the basement. She realizes this is their last chance. She throws herself at it, using a metal rod to smash it to pieces. As the mirror shatters, the creature shrieks, its body convulsing violently, but the fight isn’t over yet.

    4. Death Returns to Take One or More

Just when the survivors think they have won, the pieces of the shattered mirror start to reassemble. The creature is still alive, and it’s even more furious. It lashes out at the group, Danielle is caught in its grip. Her body is slowly pulled into the mirror, her terrified eyes meeting Maya’s as she begs for help. But there’s no saving her. The creature claims her, dragging her fully into the reflection.

As the mirror starts to reform, Alex makes a sacrifice play. Realizing there’s no way they can destroy the creature without someone being lost, he throws himself into the mirror, distracting the creature long enough for Maya and Liam to make a run for it. His body is twisted and contorted as the mirror pulls him in, but his sacrifice gives the others a chance.

    5. Resolution

Maya and Liam, the last two standing, burst out of the basement, sprinting through the hotel’s distorted halls as the creature chases them through the mirrors. Just when it seems they’re out of options, Maya remembers the journal they found earlier. It mentioned a way to trap the creature within its own reflection.

Maya grabs a large shard of a broken mirror and forces the creature to look into it. The beast hesitates for a moment, confused by its own reflection. Using the shard, Maya and Liam trick the creature into trapping itself in its reflection, locking it within the mirror world. The creature howls in fury as it’s pulled back into the mirrored void, its terrifying presence finally disappearing.

The hotel begins to return to normal, the reflective surfaces fading away. Maya and Liam stumble out of the now-deserted hotel, traumatized but alive. The curse seems broken, but as they walk away, they pass a small handheld mirror sitting on the ground, its surface glowing faintly—suggesting the creature may not be entirely gone.

End of the movie, setting up a potential sequel.

    Four Acts:
Here’s a breakdown of “The Mirrorbound Hotel” into a Four-Act Structure:

Act 1: The Set-Up (Establishing the Evil)

    1. Introduction of the Characters

Maya, Liam, Emily, Jake, Danielle, Hunter, and Alex arrive at the eerie hotel on Friday the 13th, each for their own reasons. The atmosphere feels off, with a cold, eerie vibe in the air.

They are greeted by a cryptic hotel clerk, who gives them a bizarre warning: “Don’t look into the mirrors.”

    2. Connect with the Characters

The audience is introduced to each character’s personality, dynamics, and relationships. Tension between certain characters emerges (e.g., Danielle and Alex don’t get along). We see their unique fears and flaws, setting the stage for later horrors.

    3. Denial of Horror

Despite the unsettling warning, the group dismisses it as superstition. They joke about the creepy mirrors scattered throughout the hotel. However, strange events begin: objects reflected in mirrors seem off, and some characters feel watched.

    4. Safety Taken Away

The characters’ attempts to leave the hotel the next day fail as they discover they are trapped. Phones don’t work, doors won’t open, and windows show nothing but an endless void outside.

    5. Monster Introduced (Nature of the Beast)

Jake accidentally looks into a mirror, setting off a chain of terrifying supernatural events. He begins to hallucinate and experiences strange sensations, but doesn’t realize the deadly consequences of the glance.

Act 2: The Point of No Return (Building Tension)

    1. Isolation and Trapped

The group realizes the mirrors are far more dangerous than they thought. Jake starts seeing pieces of his reflection disappearing, and when he touches his face, his eye is missing.

The group tries to cover or avoid the mirrors, but they seem to pop up everywhere. They are truly trapped in the hotel with no way out, and the supernatural force has full control over their surroundings.

    2. The First Death

Jake is the first to die. His body is consumed by the mirror creature, his missing body parts now part of the beast. The others witness it, panicking as the hotel comes alive with malevolent energy.

    3. Midpoint: The Monster is Worse than We Thought

They realize that the creature isn’t just stealing their reflections—it’s stealing pieces of their souls and bodies to become stronger. Every time they glance at a mirror, they lose a part of themselves to the beast.

Maya discovers an ancient journal in the hotel library that hints at the hotel’s dark past and the creature’s origin: it’s a beast bound to the mirrors by the hotel, feeding on vanity and fear.

    4. Full Pursuit

The group starts to work together, covering the mirrors, smashing some, and trying to avoid their reflections at all costs. But the hotel itself begins to manipulate them—new mirrors appear in places, and reflections show the worst versions of themselves.

Emily accidentally looks into a mirror while trying to cover it and starts to slowly fade away, screaming as her skin turns translucent. The creature is hunting them one by one.

    5. Terrorized

The survivors are constantly on the run, stalked by the creature that seems to appear whenever they are close to a reflective surface. Hunter begins to lose his mind, paranoid that every surface could be their doom. Danielle starts to hear voices from the mirrors, calling to her.

Act 3: The Descent into Horror (The Fight for Survival)

    1. Fight to the Death

Hunter is pulled into the mirror world by the creature, his body disappearing in a gruesome scene as he struggles to fight back. His arms are torn off, and his scream echoes through the hotel. The others are left horrified and desperate.

Maya and Liam realize the only way to fight the creature is to find and break the master mirror in the basement, as revealed by the journal.

    2. Hysteria and the Breaking Point

Danielle cracks, convinced that the mirrors are mocking her and that everyone is turning against her. She becomes erratic, turning on the group.

The surviving group (Maya, Liam, Alex, and Danielle) argue and panic, with Alex almost sacrificing himself to break a mirror in a mad frenzy. Maya tries to hold them together as the leader, guiding them toward the final showdown.

    3. The Thrilling Escape from Death

Maya and Liam make it to the basement, where they find the master mirror. As they smash it, the creature emerges from the shadows, a monstrous version of its former self, having absorbed the body parts of its victims.

    4. Death Returns for One More

Danielle is caught by the creature, consumed in front of them, her soul trapped forever in the mirror. Alex makes a heroic sacrifice, holding the creature off just long enough for Maya and Liam to finish destroying the mirror. His body is twisted grotesquely as the creature pulls him into the reflective void.

Act 4: The Resolution (Aftermath of Horror)

    1. The Final Confrontation

Maya and Liam finally manage to destroy the master mirror, trapping the creature inside its own reflection. They watch in horror as the hotel itself seems to collapse in on itself, mirrors breaking and rooms distorting.

    2. Thrilling Escape

As the hotel begins to crumble, the last remaining survivors—Maya and Liam—run through the halls as mirrors shatter all around them. They barely make it outside as the hotel implodes, leaving nothing but rubble in its wake.

    3. Twist Ending (Death Returns)

As they walk away from the destroyed hotel, Maya picks up a small shard of mirror from the ground, noticing a faint glow. She drops it in shock, realizing the creature isn’t completely gone.

The camera zooms in on the shard as a faint reflection of the beast can be seen, hinting that the horror isn’t truly over.

    4. Resolution

Though they’ve escaped for now, both Maya and Liam are left traumatized, aware that the creature might still exist somewhere in the world. The curse of the mirrors may continue to haunt others, setting the stage for future horrors.

This four-act structure brings together high tension, rising stakes, and a chilling conclusion while leaving the door open for possible sequels.

Subject line: Karyn L. — Horror Plot
    Lesson 4—Assignment 4
“What I learned doing this assignment is…?” I feel like I’m starting to put the meat on the bones of the story. Like building a house-it has to have “good bones” – foundation to develop the concept.
    Create your plot.

CONCEPT-A team of four explorers/researchers enter a cave looking for an ancient civilization and to recover the body of the twin sister of the lead explorer only to discover perfectly preserved remains of an ancient human and alien civilization and the wrath of the alien guardians.

ACT 1 — SET UP FOR HORROR
    • Atmosphere of Evil established: Team leader (Jean) watches the last video sent by her twin sister terrorized by something in the cave causing Jean to run from her tent gasping to breathe having a panic attack.
    • Connect with the characters: Other team members (Cam, Maggie, Brett) are casually drinking coffee and talking around the campfire while looking at maps of the cave.
    • The characters are warned not to do it: A thunderstorm is upon them as they quickly secure the gear they can’t take into the cave. The rain motivates them to run to the cave entrance. They are met with “DO NOT ENTER” signs posted and a feeble wooden gate to deter them. Maggie remarks “And why are we doing this?” as the leader opens the gate to proceed.
    • Denial of Horror: All are thankful to enter the cave just to get out of the torrents of rain, lightning and thunder. They checked their instruments and relieved that all is working.
    • Safety taken away: Deeper into the cave, their compass and GPS instruments go berserk and their flashlights go dark. They feel an eerie presence. Their trail splits into three tunnels. The cave seems to be breathing-the walls are moving with sections illuminated and shadows of beings running; then a seismic event knocks them down, the area they are in begins to collapse, forcing them to run into a different tunnel. Their escape route is sealed. As the air clears, they discover well preserved human and alien remains within the walls of the cave. They excavate some of the remains to identify what the species is.
    • Monster: The nature of the beast; There is an ominous presence stalking the team, casting shadows on the dimly lit walls. The team finds a safe alcove to rest. Each takes a “watch shift” to make sure there are no intruders. They are awakened by the growl of three wolves, baring their teeth. Cam takes out a pistol and is about to shoot when the wolves attack, pinning him and ripping his flesh. Maggie fires a crossbow hitting one of the wolves and poof-they disappear into the walls of the cave. These were shapeshifters.
ACT 2 — THE POINT OF NO RETURN
    • Isolated / Trapped / Abducted: Maggie and Cam are trapped in one of the tunnels; Maggie is tending to Cam’s wounds. Jean and Brett are separated and trapped in two different tunnels. Alone in the darkness of a monster cave.
    • One of us killed: Brett continues to explore his tunnel to find a treasure trove of gold artifacts. He empties his pack of his gear to fill it with the artifacts. One item in particular pique his interest-it is an orb. Pleased with his findings, he casually tosses it up to catch it, but it flies up and attaches to the ceiling of the tunnel. The cave starts to pulsate and the alien monster appears, killing Brett, sucking out his brain matter. Brett’s tormented screams resound through the cave. It reminds Jean of her sister’s tortured screams.
MIDPOINT: The monster is worse than we thought!
    • Full pursuit by the killer: Jean, Maggie and Cam reunite. They cautiously proceed in the direction of Brett’s screams and find his mutilated body with his skull imploded. He was still clutching one of the artifacts that he was going to steal. There are continuous sounds, ticking, shrieks, bellows, growls, with shadowy figures, and seismic events that push the group deeper into the tunnel. They collapse from exhaustion and hunger.
    • Terrorized: Jean, semi-conscious, hears footsteps and sees an apparition of her twin sister with a warning to “GET OUT!” Maggie and Cam felt the breath of an alien creature. In full view, they watch as the alien guardian stalks Jean.

    • ACT 3 — FULL OUT HORROR
    • Fight to the death: Maggie and Cam us some of the artifacts to distract the alien and warn Jean. The team is using the found technology to elude the guardians.
    • Hysteria: The three are trembling and must contain their fear. They were on the brink of such an incredible discovery and are now trapped, moments away from being devoured by the guardians.
    • The thrilling escape from death: Just as the guardians are bout to kill the explorers, the twin sister appears to direct them to another tunnel. Jean contains her elation and confusion at her sister’s presence. They are running through the tunnel, dodging falling rocks, the aliens give chase. Jean is the last to follow—too late.
    • Death returns to take one or more. The others turn to try to save her but she directs them to go without her. Jean fights with every ounce of her being to escape the clutches of the alien. She goes limp as the long tongue enters her ear to suck the brain matter from her skull.
    • Resolution: Maggie, Cam and Carly evade the aliens by going for the light and the exit of the cave. They collapse from exhaustion and are silent. They are different.

    1. Tell us your Concept and the Group you have chosen. Victims will be members of the excavation team and sometimes their family members. Survivors will be members of the Indian tribe and one news reporter. Also, the Bigfoot tribe will be victorious.
    2. Tell us the Dying Pattern of this movie. The victims experience the terror alone, but sometimes together. An injured survivor tells the horror of the massacre.
    3. Give us an Identity and a sentence for each character that makes up your group.
TRIBAL LEADERS: Shadowhawk is the most outspoken chieftan who warns state officers about disrupting the sacred stones.
NEWS REPORTER: Samantha Rutledge. Has distant Indian blood, more of an outsider to the tribes, but pushes initiatives to help the tribes in the past. She films one of the attacks and narrowly makes it out alive.
EXCAVATION TEAM LEAD: Mark Hamilton, doesn’t believe in squat – bigfoot, UFO’s are all ridiculous to him. He is there to do a job. He is killed in the first attack and see’s Bigfoot approach the killing spirit and become possessed.
COMPLAINER: Government manager of Water District Management office – tired and wants to retire, but needs to go out of his work life on a positive. Sadly, he doesn’t make it.
Complainer II: A second employee from the government water office is possessed and dies.
LAWYER: J. Western a righteous Christian who is only after the money and billing hours on his case load. He would rather do the bare minimum than truly take care of the legal requirements he is tasked to do. He is outspoken when the deaths start, including his daughter in college near the excavation site. “It’s the wrath of God.”
BIGFOOT: Has become a carrier for the dark spirit and kills one bigfoot from his tribe accidentally. The Bigfoot tribe doesn’t take it lightly – fights back.

This was an interesting set up — I enjoyed it.

"What I learned doing this assignment is…?"

(Sorry I'm late. I write about politics for work, and it's been crazy busy :-))

I found these sections extremely helpful since I’m writing this idea on the fly. They forced me to think about the original idea differently with definite beats. It inspired me to come up with different ideas than I started with, which I will hopefully incorporate.

ACT 1 Set Up for Horror

    • Atmosphere of Evil established

Ghost Hunters lead us down a dark corridor or an abandoned and burned-out school. They had their EV readers out, lights on, and cameras rolling as they headed to the principal’s office. They enter the office, and suddenly, the temperature drops, and then they hear a noise in the corner. “You see that? It’s the school town devil!” There is a slight shimmer of light in the corner. As they get closer, the cameraman trips over a cable, knocking wires holding up the fake apparition they were using to fool their audience to come crashing down on the heads of the Ghost Hunters, exposing their ruse.

    • Connect with the characters

At an apartment, the ghost-hunting team is watching a video from the debacle they just had. In the discussions, they laugh, joke, and get upset about what happened, which deepens their connections.

    • The characters are warned not to do it.

Harry and Charlie have an old book about ghosts and the supernatural and discuss how they could create a ghost, film it, and become famous. However, the discussion turns dark when Harry discusses murder. The other team members are outraged at the suggestion. Harry makes believe he was joking.

    • Denial of Horror

Harry and Charlie have a private conversation to decide how to create a ghost. The topic of murder comes up again. They choose the nerd video editor because he has no family, and they don't like him. "If we do this right, nothing will go wrong."

    • Safety taken away

The ghost-hunting team returns to the dilapidated school and attempts to conjure a ghost using rituals from the book. Harry locks them in when they become disillusioned and refuses to let anyone leave until they find the ghost.

Monster: The nature of the beast

The ghost hasn’t been created yet, but we see the monster within Harry and Charlie.

ACT 2 THE POINT OF NO RETURN

    • Isolated / Trapped / Abducted

The rest of the ghost-hunting team realizes they are trapped. They also realize that the hosts are planning to murder one of them.

    • One of us killed
Harry and Charlie viciously stab the nerd over and over again while the rest of the team looks on in shock.

The monster is worse than we thought!

    • Full pursuit by the killer

The team is forced to film the nerd's dead body while Harry and Charlie perform another ritual. Suddenly, an apparition appears above the nerd. They quickly learn that the ghost is vicious and looking for revenge.

    • Terrorized

The ghost can travel through solid forms, walls, chairs, closets, and audio and video equipment. It also has a foul mouth and taunts the rest of the team.

ACT 3 — FULL OUT HORROR

    • Fight to the death

The ghost kills one of them in front of the whole group.

    • Hysteria

The ghost hunter group runs wildly through the school, desperately looking for a way out.

    • The thrilling escape from death

Harry and Charlie discover that if they salt the dead body and burn it, it should destroy the evil apparition. As they burn the body, the ghost dematerializes. The group takes a few beats to relax and think they are saved.

    • Death returns to take one or more.

Harry, Charlie, and Shelia (who still have the camera) are the group's surviving members. They have reached the entrance. Suddenly, the ghost inhabits Charlie’s body and blasts out of it, ripping it apart and spraying blood, organs, and viscous fluids upon them.

    Resolution:

The ghost taunts Harry and then breaks his neck. Sheila crouches on the floor, crying. The ghost smiles at her, then turns to Harry’s body and possesses it. The body slowly gets up, pale. It walks to the end of the room, picks up the camera, and sees that the hard drive is intact. He smiles at Sheila. I was always jealous of Harry’s good looks so now I have it.. The ghost throws her the key to the door. “Let’s get out here; we’ll be famous.”

    Tim Allen Horror Plot

What I learned from this assignment is good brainstorming!

    Act1 Set up for horror
    Atmosphere of evil established

The group of six thrill seekers are sitting around in the dark around a campfire haggling over an old newspaper clipping of a man presumed to be dead, hanging upside down from a tree from the very camp they decided to come to. The newspaper clipping revealed that local authorities were called on the scene of a man falling off a cliff while onlookers took photos. But once they cleared the area and went to retrieve his body, it was never found. It also claims the park to be haunted by his spirit.

    Connect with the characters

Danny the rebel is bragging about how he isn’t afraid of anything and wants to go lurking around the camp to find this famous tree. Niles the complainer is doing exactly what she does, complaining about how it’s too dark to go anywhere. Jarred who just follows anyone anywhere for no reason wants to follow Danny. Jarred, who wants to be just like Rueben wants to know his opinion. Rueben like the leader he is or thinks he is, wants to wait until morning and draw a map so they don’t get lost. And Christie who usually makes moral and sound decisions thinks it’s not safe to wander in an area they don’t know no matter how exciting of a challenge it is.

The characters are warned not to do it

The owners of the camp warn the group not to wander in areas not posted on the arrival pamphlet, as they are not liable for incidents in non-designated areas. That there are also wild animals present that you need an experienced guide to handle.

    Denial of horror

The group all agrees that the park owners are just trying to frighten then to heighten the experience.

    Safety taken away

The only key to the weapons held on ground in case of emergency is missing.

Monster: Being that his face was partially eaten off by animals, he likes to return the favor.

Act 2 The point of no return

The next morning the group meet up to take on the hike to find this famous hanging body tree. They are met by the owners of the camp handing them a disclosure that they all signed before arriving at the park. After reading the disclosure they discover in small print that once they arrive at the park and have already stayed one day they cannot leave or request a refund. After passing the disclosure around arguing for fifteen minutes they realize Niles is missing. After checking the grounds, they can’t find him, but what they did find is that all three vehicles for use on the campgrounds have been sabotaged.

    One of us killed

Niles is lying in a box screaming at the top of his lungs while insects and poisonous ones at that, are crawling over his body. Niles has succumbed to his worst fear; buried alive.

Midpoint: The monster is worse than we thought!

    Full pursuit by the killer

Danny the rebel quickly turned into Danny the weasel while taking a whiz he came face to face with the mauled-faced killer that wasn’t just a spirit. He ran past Chris pushing her directly in the killer’s path.

    Terrorized

The rest of what was left of the group, not one of them braved up to go see why Chris screamed in agony. But they did not have to for long as they all fell in a hole in the ground sending them in four different directions. The next day they woke up to each one’s worst fear.
    Act 3 Full out horror

The last four members of the group are at the peril of an animal eating its way to their death. And if they get by the animal, they still have to face the killer. They hysterically try to free themselves from one another’s demise, but there is no resolution and no escape. They will all face the killer one by one without any weapon of choice.

    Ryan’s Horror Plot
What I learned doing this assignment is I really need to figure out the ebbs and flows of a horror script. I thought I had the story planned out pretty well, but this showed me I needed to do some more thinking to do. Also, I had traveled and fallen behind, and was going to skip this to go to the next assignment but saw this is one of the MOST important assignments. I might skip next one and then go back in the end.
ACT 1 — SET UP FOR HORROR
    • Atmosphere of Evil established: A random neighbor is being chased about their house. The monsters/spirits are shown in silhouette. Cas (protagonist) returns home after losing his job and sees cop car at the neighbor’s house but doesn’t think much of it.
    • Connect with the characters: Cas talks to coworker before he leaves job for final time. Then dejected Cas talks to neighbor/friend, Alfonso, as he parks car. Talk about the cop car and comment to Alfonso that good to have some excitement. Cas talking to wife. Cas also tries to bond with other men in the neighborhood but is too different though we find some neighborhood gossip and how the murder is viewed.
We see Aisha first appearance by driving by and parking at parents’ house. She is on the back of a motorcycle with a douchey guy who she kisses before going into house.
    • The characters are warned not to do it.: Cas’s wife tells him to focus on finding new job or house project because he gets weird when bored or unfulfilled.
Police warn Cas after he starts noticing monsters involved with trouble in neighborhood. Aisha warns him people will think he’s crazy. Then becomes worried about Cas’s life as she sees he might not be crazy. She also brings him to an old lady on the street for information (I need to think on this more, as well as mythology/origin of the monsters).
    • Denial of Horror: Aisha and everyone else at first think Cas is weird or bored. Cas is in denial that the monsters or his behavior can actually hurt him (he is right they can’t hurt him physically but can hurt him indirectly by hurting those he loves). He wants excitement. Cas goes on interviews but fails as he is too eager.
    • Safety taken away: Cas falls from roof when spying. Another neighbor is murdered on walk, but coyotes are blamed.
    • Monster: The nature of the beast.: Yet another neighbor dies, and Cas gives chase after the spirits through the neighborhood after witnessing it through window. It is a young yuppie couple whose bodies are not found. Police and others think they might be traveling.
ACT 2 — THE POINT OF NO RETURN
    • Isolated / Trapped / Abducted: Cas is arrested and though he is freed, he can no longer count on police. His wife is angry as well, and Cas fails at another interview but this time it is through lack of interest.
    • One of us killed: Alfonso is killed and found by Cas. Alfonso’s wife yells at Cass and blames him, because she knows he had to have some involvement.
MIDPOINT: The monster is worse than we thought!
    • Full pursuit by the killer: Monsters target Aisha, and Cas is unable to stop it as the spirits ignore him and seem to not even register him physically. Aisha is able to attack monsters with the item they found (need to see why it hurts. Maybe iron? Silver?)
    • Terrorized: How will they keep Aisha safe if they come back? Cas called away for a job interview.
ACT 3 — FULL OUT HORROR
    • Fight to the death: Cas and Aisha run about the neighborhood wearing people of the spirits and stopping their murders (like dropping a tree or other ‘accidents’). Spirits seem to get frustrated. Spirits turn and charge at Aisha again, chasing her to her house. She goes in and gets her family out. House explodes!!! Luckily Aisha got out.
    • Hysteria: Cas is tried, quiet, and scared. He is starting to realize it’s not all fun and games. Aisha is loud and goes to her shed.
    • The thrilling escape from death: Now the spirits go to Cas’s house. They can’t hurt him, but they sure can attack his family! Cas must tell family how to kill spirits and bestows all his knowledge onto his kids so they can do the job.
    • Death returns to take one or more.: They kill or exorcise the large spirit. Then realize they didn’t see the small most evil spirit! It goes to kill Cas’s wife, but Aisha returns to kill it!
    • Resolution: Aisha and family are rebuilding home, but she is going to move out, though not with the jerk guy she was dating. Cas appreciates his family and his life, taking on the role of homemaker and trying to do online work. I wanted to also do some sort of teaser with the spirits returning, like maybe a new group of neighbors moves into the homes of those that were killed?

    BRIAN BULL – Horror Plot

My Vision: I’m a writer that producers want to work with and can’t wait for my next script!!!

“What I learned from doing this assignment is…?” If I just follow the plan, I was able to fit the puzzle pieces in nicely—or so I think.

    ASSIGNMENT
    1. Knowing your concept, fill in one or two sentences for each of the plot points.
ACT 1 — SET UP FOR HORROR
    Atmosphere of Evil established

Moonlight shines into a hospital room in England. A nurse peeks in to see an empty bed. She becomes panic-stricken, calling for the doctors and security. Shrieks and screams can be heard in the hallway. The shadow of a wolf monster kills someone and lets the body drop.

    Connect with the characters.

LEADER: James – responsible, drives the car, successful at everything he does. Adventurous – brings a metal detector for Ghost Town.
LOVE INTEREST: Mary – James’ girlfriend; generic girlfriend figure who will go anywhere for James.
OUT OF CONTROL OBNOXIOUS: Charlie – party’s all the time, James’ best friend and his alter-ego. Brings a Colt 6-shooter to fire during their visit to a ghost town.
COMPLAINER: Zoey – friend of Mary’s who kind of likes Charlie, if he wasn’t such a jerk all the time.
THE CARRIER: The one that brings the horror to the group – Henry – After graduating from college, went to Europe for a month. While in England, he was attacked by a large “dog” and stayed in the hospital for observations. He left the hospital in the middle of the night – that was a month ago. The moon is full tomorrow night, and Henry feels a bit “hungry.”
These four Characters are road-tripping to Los Angeles and entering Northern California, looking for a ghost town where James can metal-detect and Charlie can shoot off a few rounds with his Colt 45.
The characters are warned not to do it.

A roadside attraction has a BIG FOOT statue. Told about a ghost town a few miles away but it’s a ghost town for a reason.
    Denial of Horror

They joke about BIG FOOT and other scary monsters and how fake they are.
    Safety taken away

After spending the afternoon metal detecting and firing Charlie’s pistol, they head out. However, they start having engine troubles. Luckily, an RV is coming down the road to visit the ghost town. They agree to fix it in the morning because the sun is going down.

Monster: The nature of the beast.

As the sun sets, the full moon begins to rise. Henry has ventured off, so has Sammy the Rver. When the moon is on the horizon an eerie howl is heard in the hills. Worried, the others begin looking for the two.

ACT 2 — THE POINT OF NO RETURN
    Isolated / Trapped / Abducted

Sammy’s body is found, and he is shredded. Mary, with shotgun in hand, is going to kill whatever it is that killed her husband!

    One of us killed

Nearby, screaming!!! The shotgun goes off. The three college grads are panicked and go to investigate – Mary is shredded!

MIDPOINT: The monster is worse than we thought!
    Full pursuit by the killer

The college grads return to the RV – this will make for a good fortress – if only they had the keys. The keys are with Sammy! The werewolf HOWLLLLLLLLLLS!

    Terrorized

Someone needs to go out there and get the keys off of Sammy’s body. They devise a plan.

ACT 3 — FULL OUT HORROR
    Fight to the death

Charlie is going to be the decoy so James can get the keys from Sammy. Charlie has his gun, and he is hiding. The werewolf sniffs around and gets very close to Charlie. Charlie panics and fires 5 of his six shots but misses on all counts. He runs back to the RV but trips; he points the gun, and his arm is sliced off! Charlie is shredded right in front of Mary as she looks out the windshield!

James is out there searching for Sammy’s body.

    Hysteria

Mary is armed with a shotgun, but she is trapped inside the RV. The werewolf is circling the RV. Mary takes her best shot, hoping to hit the werewolf, but she misses, and now the werewolf is ripping at the door.

    The thrilling escape from death

Mary opens the window and slips out just as the werewolf enters. James has the keys, but now the werewolf is inside the RV, and they are on the outside.

Death returns to take one or more.

James shoots the werewolf with the pistol/silver bullet. James and Mary return to the RV – Mary enters the doorless RV first. She hears a noise and turns around – James is gone!!! She looks around and then – A SNARL AND FANGS RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER!!! Mary pulls the trigger on the shotgun and blows a big hole in him – thus killing the werewolf!

    Resolution

Mary goes to James' body, gets the keys, and drives away.

A question here is the Purge examples were a few sentences. I wonder if I need more detail.

What I learned doing this assignment is that I have too much plot.

ACT 1 — SET UP FOR HORROR |
    * The atmosphere of Evil established – April’s Psychology residency at a psychiatric institution. She accidentally frees a serial killer and barely escapes murder at the killer’s hands.
    * Connect with the characters – Friends from college on a winter break trip to a ski resort. It’s dry and almost deserted, but they’re trying to have fun.
    * The characters are warned not to do it. – When they get to town, they split up. Some encounter an older handyman who warns them that this place is dangerous.
    * Denial of Horror – One of them sees a strange-looking priest praying. The person is scary looking. The friends choose to stay, and they party at their Airbnb.
    * Safety taken away -The van they came up in is having an engine problem. One of the friends is a mechanic who tries to fix it.
    * Monster: The nature of the beast. – Local business owners, clearly intimate encounter the priest. When they engage it, he tears them apart.

⠀ACT 2 — THE POINT OF NO RETURN
    * Isolated / Trapped / Abducted – That evening, a blizzard hits before the van can be repaired, stranding them there.
    * One of us killed – The mechanic friend comes in, and he says he thinks he’s fixed it. And he found tire chains. If they leave, now, he thinks they can make it. At that moment, the van isn’t even running but the monster throws it through the wall, and it kills the mechanic.

⠀MIDPOINT: The monster is worse than we thought!
    * Full pursuit by the killer -The monster enters, and some of them engage it. They barely affect it.
    * Terrorized – they run into the snowstorm, most are barely dressed, and they have no idea where they’re going.

    ⠀ACT 3 — FULL OUT HORROR
    * Fight to the death -the group is getting smaller, as they try to stop it, but nothing seems to work.
    * Hysteria – April and her friends are freaking out and are at the edge of their sanity.
    * The thrilling escape from death – the group leader devises a plan to make a trap for the monster.
    * Death returns to take one or more. -More die before the trap goes off, but it works. As the creature is dying, the friends realize what it wants.
    * Resolution -They turn on each other, and April’s true colors are revealed.

What I learned… A Lot!! This is the assignment that begins everything. We all attack this assignment different and for me the great layout is my biggest / toughest part.
This assignment cemented in the fact I needed more victims/players. Each plays their unique part in adding to the story, the plot and all the ghoulish gore slashed victim entertainment.

Great assignment. I labored through this one. But man o man I like what I got.

    Lesson 6

    Five Guests: one lives

    NEXT TO GO
Jenna Wolf she wonders where Croydon is, but the others stop her from going to check it out. Velma goes. Jenna calls her husband while she prepares a salad in the kitchen.
Jenna stabbed with a kitchen knife, she also sees the attacker. Her body dragged away before anyone is discovered

    Character Death Jenna Wolf

How Velma turns into a monster behind Lars. He looks at the mirror as she is going to strike and chows down.
