  Jessica’s) 4 Act Transformational Structure
  What I learned doing this assignment is…not to forget about the antagonist when building a 4 act structure"
  • Concept: A shy female student travels to a small town for an internship and soon realizes her landlords (an old couple) are devil worshippers who plan to use her body to host the soul of their son who died almost one year ago.
  • Main Conflict: the old woman who wants her to be – or become – her dead son vs her who must learn to be her own person, be herself.
  • Old ways: doesn’t speak much, eat alone, let people walk all over her, helpless.
  • New Ways: speak her mind, eat people’s brains (when she’s possessed), assertive and strong, doesn’t take no for an answer.

  Act 1:
  • Hook: the possessed son is killed by a car in front of parent’s house
  • Opening: a student leaves her apartment and hop on the bus to another town where she rents a room from an old couple.
  • Inciting Incident: she reads from a strange book she finds in the old couple’s house. Strange occurrences happen.
  • Turning Point: she discovers she’s been marked (as mark on body)
  Act 2:
  • New plan: She investigates. The couple want to use her body! She tries to leave the room and fails.
  • Plan in action: She misses the last bus and her chance to leave. She’s stuck here another week. Defense!
  • Midpoint Turning Point: The old lady works as a cleaning lady at work!
  Act 3:
  • Rethink everything. Betrayed by a coworker who takes advantage of her. Men in her office buzz around her like flies.
  • New plan: During the Halloween party, she lets the demon invade her body so she can kill the coworker who took advantage of her
  • Turning Point: Huge failure / Major shift: She becomes the demon
  Act 4:
  She hosts the soul of the dead son. The couple enjoys their son for one evening.
  • Climax/Ultimate expression of the conflict: during Halloween party, she finds demonic markings in her costume, transforms into a demon. She kills all her coworkers.
  • Resolution: Kills the couple.
