Module 2 Day 5
Tracy El Pueblo Episode Descriptions
What I learned doing this assignment is to keep planning and refining. I have five leads and it will be fun to spend time crafting these better. For this exercise, I’m just following the storyline of the young heroine in El Pueblo. I really like the suggestion to build from cliffhanger to cliffhanger, so need to improve these, too.
Following Antonia’s story line:
Episode 1: A widow woman publicly punished in church for having sex outside of marriage and sent away from El Pueblo. Antonia complains to old priest of this treatment since she has been married and not a virgin. Antonia’s told women must be pure as Christ’s bride for entire life. Antonia conflicted about her position as a marriage commodity. She tells priest she’d rather run away to convent than marry a rich old man. She then rejects a “young” widower 20 years her senior that Grandma picked out. Grandma angry as it’s best offer she’s had in a younger suitor. Antonia runs to her Aunt Gertrudis’s house, where her husband is suffering from a horrible mysterious illness.
Episode 2: Antonia becomes nanny to aunt’s children when her uncle dies. Neither priest nor shaman could save him, which scares the family. Aunt expecting a child soon. Antonia objects to having to run household, but then realizes she is not under Grandma’s eagle eye. She meets girlfriends going to river to fetch water. They encounter a soldier, escape from him. Agree not tell parents as would be locked away until they got married. Antonia hides a knife in her hatband to defend her virginity and unexpected freedom.
Episode 3: Antonia and women forced to grind corn in metates when mill breaks. Only person with skill to fix it was lover of woman sent away – he is in jail at fort hours to the south. Antonia complains she can’t watch children, do farm chores, and pound corn by hand. Grandma agrees she can hire help from the native village nearby. In mourning, Aunt Gertrudis wants to go to church to bless unborn child. This means making the journey on Saturday with the procession of 300 to Mission San Gabriel. Once there, Grandma challenged to a tortilla bake-off by her rival, the cook to the priests. In the crowd, Antonia loses sight of the new servant. She herself slips off with the majordomo’s son since no one is watching over her.
Episode 4: Aunt Gertrudis delivers surprise twins, so Antonia is busy! Grandma announces match for Antonia’s younger cousin (age 15) to suitor Antonia rejected. She will be moving to an immense ranch outside of town. Antonia hates handwork, but vows to embroider a pretty wedding dress with Grandma. Antonia’s new servant secretly helps Indians escape the mission out to the desert tribes, using Antonia’s discarded work dresses.
Episode 5: The wedding day of Antonia’s younger cousin. Traditional wedding activities are celebrated before the marriage, during it, and afterwards. Antonia’s family hosts the wedding luncheon. The servant girl brings in unknown natives to help serve who Antonia has never seen before. Antonia is sad when the buggy leaves with her dearest cousin. But she is glad it’s not her sitting beside the middle-aged man worrying about the wedding night to come.
Episode 6: Father Diego arrives new to El Pueblo. He is warmly welcomed by Antonia’s family, except for Grandma. She is suspicious of a handsome black-robed priest — quite unlike the brown-robed tough Franciscan friars assigned to the province. Grandma informs Father Diego that it has been her petitioning for an assistant priest and proper church building since she arrived at age 19 to build the village from scratch. She wants proper religious instruction for the children. Out of Grandma’s earshot later, Antonia begs the new priest to teach school. She pours out her hopes and dreams. She promises to come to confession at the mission to see him, as she has a lot to confess.
Episode 7: Antonia meets girlfriends early in morning to go for water. They tease her for being smitten by new priest — Antonia encourages them to come to class. Her friend Petra says no point now, as a marriage has been arranged. Antonia urges her to fight it, but instead confronted by friends over Antonia’s dismissive attitude toward marriage prospects. Caste and status come between them for first time. After they leave, Antonia observes stirrings at native village Yangna. She sees her servant girl exchanging bundles. The lone soldier comes upon her; she has forgotten her knife. Father Diego is riding into El Pueblo. Antonia escapes possible harm.
Episode 8: When Lucas arrives new to El Pueblo, Antonia immediately goes to check him out at his uncle’s house. She is relieved at his looks, a young man of good breeding. He wears latest fashion from Mexico City. He thinks all the small children with Antonia are hers. Oh no, she is not married or being courted. Antonia has organized a lunch and fandango in his honor. She asks if Lucas can dance. Oh, he can’t wait to show these country bumpkins!
Episode 9: Under the watchful eyes of Father Diego and the old women, Lucas conducts a dance class. Antonia is his partner. The young people want to be better than their friends from San Diego, but act terribly. The vaqueros watch from a distance, jealous of the girls throwing themselves at Lucas. They taunt Lucas to come with them on a bear hunt just with lariats. Antonia forces him to go for his honor, but Lucas falls off the spirited horse they give him.
Episode 10: Antonia and townspeople shocked to receive orders from commander at Santa Barbara fort to prepare for pirate attack. The warning comes from fur trade ship captain they all knew of. He spent last year at Santa Barbara trying to get his ship back after black market goods stolen. Men go through military drills. Women stock provisions. Only military have weapons and ammo. Antonia practices throwing her knife until she can hit a target.
Episode 11: It has been a month since El Pueblo received word that an armed attack was coming from the Sandwich Islands. They drilled and put together an evacuation plan. But nothing happened, so normal life resumed. Antonia and villagers enjoy fiesta day at mission. Lucas comes back with the vaqueros and a live grizzly. A bear and bull fight held in front of the church. Antonia loves the blood and gore. She is proud of Lucas. The soldiers drag in runaway Indians from the mission, putting them in the stocks for all to see. Father Diego protests. But Christian Indians instruct him it’s for their good, especially on a saint’s day. Antonia sees a strip of cloth from her old dress used as a headband on one man. Servant girl doesn’t return.
Episode 12: Antonia’s former best friend Petra raped by soldier; Petra botched abortion attempt and is ruined. Father Diego prevents girl’s father from killing her, for Petra has brought dishonor to their family. Antonia begs to comfort her but denied. The soldier is on the lam, a threat to all females. Young vaqueros want to hunt him down. Lucas acts like he does, too, but would rather give orders. The older men urge young hotheads to set up a protective watch around the village.

Cara considers the difference between Randi and Jim’s versions of tJim and Molly’s courtship after Mike broke up with Molly. Mike said Jim wanted Molly’s land more than Molly, but that the impending baby would settle Jim down.
Episode 10 Endings and Beginnings
The 11-year-old twins take over ditch mowing from Randi when she’s clumsy with the small tractor and mounted mowers. Randi cries as she head to the house. When a neighbor man dies, Cara and Randi ask the widow to rent her land to them next spring. Randi knows Jim has also asked and mentions Hunter’s bruises as a reason the widow might not want to rent to Jim. Cara weighs her options and decides to use mind control to get the widow to rent to Randi.
Jim remembers how pleased Mike was when he congratulated Jim and Molly on Hunter’s birth years ago. Mike was a little too happy and Jim grows enraged. Then he fantasizes about making love to Cara and flirts with her at the mailboxes the next day.
Episode 11 Getting Help
Cara has a problem with her car and uses Silva techniques to diagnose it. The mechanic speculates that it’s something more expensive, but she insists she’s right. She is. Cara finds that the EQIP paperwork she got in the mail is for government programs related to climate change mitigation that may net the farm additional money. She investigates.
Six months before her death, Mike and Mindy want Molly to leave Jim, but the land is hers and she is trapped because the farm’s income isn’t enough to pay someone to do Jim’s work. Hearing about Cara’s Silva success with her car, Randi signs up for intentional medicine classes online, but during the first lesson, she can’t focus or understand it. She gives up in tears.
Episode 12 Fear and Confusion
Randi asks Cara to work her magic on her after supper because she’s feeling a bit under the weather and has been having a few senior moments. A month before she died, Mindy had found divorce papers on Gabe’s computer that Molly had filled out before her death. Cara tells her best friend in LA about Mike and Mindy’s investigation of Molly’s death and then their death at the same railroad crossing. She is considering leaving for her own safety. Randi overhears Cara’s call.
Cara uses NMT to diagnose Randi and gets perplexing results.
Episode 13 Figuring It Out
Cara’s lawyer recalls that Mike and Mindy changed their executor and the twins’ guardianship to Cara just two months before they died. Only a week before they died, Mindy told Cara about her premonition of death and Mike’s promise to his dad to keep the farm for his twins and not let his Alaska brothers get it. Jim gets drunk and relives his final fight with Molly, chasing her in his pickup as she drove away. He relives the horror of her crash into the train and his decision to write the suicide note to avoid being blamed for her death. He didn’t notice Hunter watching him type the note.
A replay of Mike and Mindy’s New Year’s Eve crash from episode 1 explains how they thought Jim caused Molly’s accident with sabotaged brakes even though that’s not what happened. Who sabotaged their brakes? Cara juxtaposes her NMT diagnosis of Randi and her designation as the twins’ guardian and the executor.

3. Write a rough draft of each of the episode descriptions for your first
season.Episode 1:
Tanner Holmes, with a strange metal tattoo behind his left ear, saves a young Ben Franklin and then vanishes. He shows up again, watching Sharra Lane in 1996. Sharra’s crooked boss is after blood ever since she turned in evidence of fraud. So, when Lazarus Maitland invites her to join Vault Agency which means leaving NYC, she considers it. However, her physical reaction to the logo on the business card, (the same design as Tanner’s tattoo), and the odd interview make her rethink her options. Tanner wants Lazarus not to hire her, but Lazarus has a note from his future self that Sharra will save them all.
A mugging gone bad and Sharra gets stabbed, which makes her change her mind. Especially when she is miraculously healed with Tanner’s help. Still stranger is the man from 1825, a former Vault agent, who appears out of thin air and investigates the man behind the mugging. Sharra is ignorant of the true nature of Vault Agency, and it’s only at the final moment when she’s alone with Lazarus and they both vanish that she becomes aware.
Episode 2:

Faolan shifts between his time in 1825 and Sharra’s, searching for the culprit behind Sharra’s attack, keeping his movements hidden from Lazarus.
Sharra gets her first mission assignment as a courier in London. Not to London of now, but to 1825. She’s going to ‘fix’ time! Vault agents are time travelers!
Episode 3:
London 1825 mission is a disaster. With Tanner wounded and unconscious, Sharra must do the mission on her own and find Lazarus to get them back to the Vault or be stuck in that timeline. She and a past Faolan meet for the first time. It’s not a coincidence. He helps her all the while trying to convince her to choose a different path. Meanwhile, Lazarus is stopped from getting to Sharra because his future self is there gathering intel on the rogue agent who was behind the original mugging, leading him into the underbelly of London.
Sharra completes her first mission and feels the rush. Everybody is back safe. Faolan stays behind. Sharra is ready to officially join. Lazarus shifts Sharra to the main Vault complex where she encounters the massive vault chamber with nine huge electrical pylons and realizes Vault Agency is something not entirely real.
Episode 4:
Sharra has an odd experience with the particle cloud that sits around the pylons. It’s otherworldly. To become a full agent with the ability to shift through time, Sharra has the agrylium metal infused into her brain, but the machine malfunctions, and she gets infused on both sides of her brain. A side effect – any with agrylium, she can hear their thoughts if pointed at her. The paranoid agents are out for blood and a pose spirit forms. The finger points to Faolan and the search is on for him.

Episode 5:
Sharra’s first solo mission hits close to home when she had to help her target through the death and funeral of her late husband. It hits too close to her heart. Sharra shifts a few days back to stop the death but her attempt is futile, and she realizes she must complete her original mission. The rogue agent is there and gets Sharra in a stranglehold. Tanner saves her but loses the rogue agent. Tanner realizes it’s not Faolan.
Episode 6:
The last mission screws with Sharra’s head. She sneaks back to her timeline and interacts with her family. It’s the week before the accident that kills her parents. Sharra gets close to her younger self and feeds her information about the event but it backfires and causes trouble between young Sharra and Grayson. Faolan, who has been following Sharra, finally meets up with Lazarus. They mend old disputes to work together to keep tabs on Sharra’s movements. Faolan reveals the rogue agent is J.D. Dash.
Lazarus sends Tanner to stop Sharra, and he gets there just in time to stop her from revealing herself to her family. He takes Sharra to his own timeline to his mother and sister’s gravestones, to what he can’t change.
Episode 7:
A ripple in time has multiple agents stuck in timelines on dangerous missions. Sharra has to face the consequences of tampering with her timeline. To fix the ripple, Sharra must go back to when she had interfered in her family’s life and repair the damage. Now complicated by her former visit, Sharra struggles to fix the damage until Faolan appears. After revealing he’s an agent too, Sharra reluctantly agrees to his help. Together, they fix the ripple, freeing the stuck agents from harrowing situations, but Grayson witnesses them shifting out and he realizes who she is – a future Sharra.
Episode 8:
The Vault team goes on the offense after J.D. Dash. With the help of the Committee, Sharra devises a plan to trap the real rogue agent, using herself as the bait. The team set up in Portsmouth in 1857 and wait for Sharra’s arrival. Now, a full-fledged agent, Sharra has come full circle, faces her fear to meet Dash head-on and put an end to her and the Vault’s troubles. Sharra completes the mission to discover that the shipmaster is Dash. His plan is to destroy all the Lazarus has worked to create, including the Vault.
Sharra risks her life and forces Dash back to the Vault. Their fight takes them into the particle cloud while the rest of the team stands by helpless. Sharra survives but is left with pieces of the particle cloud inside her brain. Dash is killed by the pylons, but it isn’t the end of Sharra’s troubles. There’s a puppet master and he’s furious.

What I learnt from this assignment is to keep checking that there is a hook, conflict and cliffhanger for each episode. Now getting excited by episode 9, I realise I don’t have enough in the pilot episode and may need to re think this.
