Jason Lauer's Twists
### 🟩 **OPENING — THE LEGEND BEGINS**
**Scene:**
Vintage VHS footage from an '80s action film. Rick “Dutch” Maddox faces the impossible: save his team or disarm a missile. He chooses the missile and stops it — the fiery explosion immortalizes him in silhouette.**Cut to Present Day:**
The President’s grandson watches the film alone. Suddenly, masked assailants breach his secure estate and kidnap him.They leave behind a **VHS tape labeled: “REEL HEROES ONLY.”**
* **Action Type:** Dangerous Situation (off-screen) & Rescue setup
* **Purpose:** Establish tone, raise stakes, connect past to present, and spark the mystery.**Twists:**
* **Deceived → Surprising Truth:** What appears to be a fan homage is actually a threat.
* **Attacked → Protected:** The boy is taken but not harmed — they want to replicate Rick’s original mission.—
### 🟧 **INCITING INCIDENT — THE CALL TO ACTION**
**Scene:**
Rick, early 60s but still looking 40, signs autographs at a retro convention. Government agents approach quietly:* The President’s grandson has been taken.
* He’s being held in a real Cold War missile silo — the very same one that inspired Rick’s film.
* Only someone who’s “been there” can infiltrate it now.
* **Action Type:** Call to Adventure
* **Purpose:** Thrust Rick back into a real-world version of his fictional legacy.
**Twists:**
* **Surprising Alliance:** The government that abandoned him now begs for his help.
* **New Threat:** The kidnapper is replicating Rick’s real mission—but with real stakes.—
### 🟨 **FIRST TURNING POINT — BEHIND ENEMY LINES**
**Scene:**
Rick HALO-jumps into the silo. Rusted steel, flickering lights, and active launch tech create a haunting echo of the past.He finds the boy’s belongings — including a signed VHS of “Dutch.”
* **Action Type:** Infiltration
* **Purpose:** Shows Rick stepping back into danger alone. The line between fiction and reality is gone.**Twists:**
* **Danger → Safety:** No immediate hostiles—yet. A false calm before the storm.
* **Lost Resources → New Resources:** Rick salvages gear and tech from the environment.—
### 🟦 **MIDPOINT — ANALOG VS DIGITAL**
**Scene:**
Rick trips a pressure sensor. **Armed drones** activate, initiating a relentless chase.Using outdated tech and quick thinking, Rick:
* Jams drones with VHS static.
* Blinds them with a magnesium flare.
* Escapes via an old coolant pipe.
* **Action Type:** Drone Chase / Escape
* **Purpose:** Demonstrates Rick’s ingenuity and refusal to be outclassed by modern tech.
**Twists:**
* **Unexpected Weapon:** A busted VCR becomes a weaponized decoy.
* **It Just Got Worse:** One drone is semi-sentient and adapts to his VHS tricks.
* **Trap → Escape:** Rick is cornered but uses the facility’s flawed layout to lose the drone.—
### 🟥 **SECOND TURNING POINT — THE ENEMY REVEALED**
**Scene:**
Captured and restrained, Rick watches a screen flicker on.**Damien** appears:
* A government-trained next-gen warrior.
* Furious that Rick’s real exploits became movie myth while he was erased from history.
* He’s replicating Rick’s old mission — but this time, it ends in real nuclear fire.The President’s grandson is shackled beneath the missile.
Launch countdown: **20 minutes.*** **Action Type:** Psychological Confrontation
* **Purpose:** Personalizes the conflict. Establishes the villain’s motives and starts the ticking clock.**Twists:**
* **Identity Hidden → Identity Exposed:** Damien reveals he once trained under Rick’s command without Rick knowing.
* **Betrayal → Surprising Alliance:** A silent guard who worked with Rick long ago lets him escape his cuffs — but pays the price.—
### ⚫ **CRISIS — NO BACKUP, NO CHOICE**
**Scene:**
Rick short-circuits his restraints using a belt buckle and exposed wiring. He scavenges tools:* Paracord, flare casings, gear fragments.
* Builds a rescue rig and gear from spare silo components.
* **Action Type:** Preparation Montage
* **Purpose:** Shows Rick stripped to basics. He’s not a hero because of gadgets — he’s a survivor.
**Twists:**
* **Lost Resources → New Resources:** Rick finds a rusted control node from the Cold War — it's barely functional but powerful in the right hands.
* **Plan Fails → Plan Succeeds:** His first plan to reach the boy fails, but a secondary rigged pulley system lets him climb unseen.—
### 🔴 **CLIMAX — BATTLE IN THE BELLY OF THE BEAST**
**Scene:**
The missile is armed. The boy dangles under the exhaust.Damien intercepts Rick on a towering scaffold:
* Brutal **hand-to-hand combat** — raw fists, knives, rebar.
* Rick is outgunned but outlasts.
* Ends with Rick **kicking Damien into the missile shaft**.Then:
* Rick bungees off the platform.
* Grabs the boy mid-drop.
* Slams down hard — but alive.
* **Action Type:** Fight + Rescue
* **Purpose:** Physical and emotional climax — Rick overcomes legacy, villain, and death to save the kid.
**Twists:**
* **Unexpected Support:** The boy uses his drone knowledge to help Rick during the fight.
* **Reverse the Reversal:** Damien nearly kills Rick — but Rick uses a move Damien bragged about earlier against him.—
### 🟪 **MISSILE DISARM SEQUENCE — ONE SHOT**
**Scene:**
The missile powers up. The silo floods with smoke.The boy spots an **intact drone**.
“I can fly it,” he says.Rick clutches the drone’s rig as the boy flies him up. Midair, Rick:
* Opens the missile’s panel.
* Cuts the ignition.
* Yanks the guidance chip.
* Shoves a flare into coolant to force shutdown.Missile powers down.
Rick **leaps off**, grabs the drone again, and the boy pilots them safely down as the alarms go silent.
* **Action Type:** Rescue + Disarm + Escape
* **Purpose:** Stylized, triumphant action. Ends the threat, saves the kid.**Twists:**
* **Unexpected Weapon:** A flare stick, meant for survival, becomes the critical shutdown trigger.
* **Trap → Escape:** The missile’s override was a trap — Rick’s analog trick bypasses it entirely.—
### 🟫 **RESOLUTION — THE HERO REBORN**
**Scene:**
Back at the retro convention. Surprise appearance:* Rick walks onstage to thunderous applause.
* The President’s grandson sits front row in aviators — clearly changed.The trailer for **LEGACY CODE: DECLASSIFIED** rolls:
> “One missile. One shot. No stuntmen.”
Footage plays:
* Bungee dive
* Scaffold fight
* Missile climb
* Rick riding the drone down in silhouetteRick finally smiles — *because this time, it was real.*
* **Action Type:** Victory + Tribute
* **Purpose:** Concludes Rick’s arc. He earns his legend — not for the camera, but for the country.**Twists:**
* **Surprising Truth:** The footage was captured by silo security — not for glory, but for record.
* **It Just Got Better:** Rick becomes a true legend to a new generation — for the right reasons.-
