    JP Serra Stacks Intrigue

What I learned doing this assignment is that a turning point is much more satisfying for the viewer if we set it up with intrigues first.

Select the intrigue ideas you like and add them to your growing outline:

    Act 1:

Strange Behavior: The ground where the cannon hits reacts unnaturally, pulsating slightly as if alive before releasing the oil.

    • Turning Point: Amidst their dispute, the automatic cannon Lambert is repairing misfires, striking the earth and uncovering a mysterious oil that seeps out from the ground.

    Act 2:

    – Intrigue: The mysterious oil seeps from the ground when the canon breaks the earth.

    – Wound: Lambert fears magic.

    • Turning Point/Midpoint: Heartbroken, Cody flees and accidentally falls into the mysterious oil, causing some drops to fall on the shattered metal pieces. The pieces take a life of their own, revealing the oil’s magical properties.

    Act 3:

    – Intriguing world: Mirelle is a sorceress who masters magic.

    – Hidden Agenda: Mirelle shows an unusual interest in the oil, hinting at her own secretive experiments with similar substances.

    – Wound: Lambert fears magic.

    – Mystery: The metal butterfly exhibits behaviors indicating it possesses consciousness, not just animation.

    • Turning Point: Driven by curiosity rather than caution, Mirelle animates a metal butterfly with the oil. Lambert, fearing the unknown implications, destroys the creation and bans further experimentation.

    Act 4:

    – Conspiracy: The mineworkers have been disappearing for the past 2 months.

    – Secret identity: The bat appears at a couple of moments in the sky.

    – Intriguing world: Ben mentions the druid to Nayeli

    – Hidden Agenda: Hint that Sylvanor’s motives are more complex.

    • Turning Point: Sylvanor, the vengeful druid, observes the town’s movements through his spy bat. Seeing an opportunity, he orders his entire army to launch a surprise attack on the town, aiming to capture the mineworkers all at once.

    Act 5:

    – Wound: Mirelle can’t have children

    – Hidden agenda: Mirelle steals Cody’s toys and visits the site where Lambert found the oil

Deception: Lambert believes Mirelle has ceased her experiments, unaware of her nocturnal activities, adding a layer of secrecy and rebellion to her character.

    • Lock In: In a bold move, Mirelle stealthily collects all of Cody’s discarded toys. Using the magical oil, she breathes life into one, hinting at her plan to harness the oil’s power for purposes unknown.
