What I learned doing this assignment is the concept of “lock in”. It’s true that we will be much more drawn to watching the show if we believe that all the bridges have been burned and there’s no way back for the main character.

The village sorceress uses a magical oil with the power to animate metal to give life to a creature made out of steel.

2. Give us the main beats of that Inciting Incident:

Intriguing Concept: A tranquil village is thrown into chaos by an infestation of bizarre, metal creatures, born from a mysterious magical oil, challenging the once serene life of its inhabitants.

Act 1: Lionel, a steadfast blacksmith with a firm belief in the might of conventional defenses—cannons, shields, and fortified gates—is a skeptic of magic, valuing the security these tangible protections promise his village over the unpredictability of sorcery.

Midpoint: Lionel’s world is upended when he stumbles upon an enigmatic, magical oil beneath the earth, possessing the uncanny ability to breathe life into metal, challenging his previously held convictions and forcing him to reconsider the role of magic in their lives.

Lock-In: The village’s equilibrium is further disrupted when the town sorceress, under the guise of experimentation, animates Lionel’s son’s war toys with the magical oil. These newly alive entities, once benign playthings, now pose an unforeseen threat from within, rendering Lionel’s meticulously constructed external defenses moot and introducing a new, internal menace to the village.

1. What is the “Inciting Incident” of your series that this Pilot needs to deliver powerfully?

“Inciting Incident”= Midpoint + Lock In.

(a). SKYY LAR forms and leads a birds’ coalition against the Beauty Industry’s environmental harm.

(b). SKYY LAR becomes the leader of the most successful environmental activism alliance/group/movement in the world.

(c). SKYY LAR forms and leads a birds’ alliance and collaborates with a young girl EMMA to form the human alliance alongside and against the Beauty Industry’s environmental destruction.

2. Give us the main beats of that Inciting Incident:

· Intriguing Concept: SKYY LAR collaborates with EMMA to lead the most successful environmental activism alliance/group/movement in the world.

· Act 1: SKYY LAR is a Squaddie (Squadron Leader) who mentors and teaches five hundred young pigeons about surviving in the urban environment. SKYY LAR goes to the market for sustenance, gets ensnared/trapped in synthetic waste, and cannot break free. EMMA discovers SKYY LAR and she cannot save its left leg and constructs a prosthetic leg for it. While EMMA investigates the source and properties of the synthetic waste, SKYY LAR takes a much-deserved freedom flight and gets ambushed by a Falcon which is hit by an oncoming vehicle in the heart cityscape of London. SKYY LAR returns to its original home under the train bridges and RAPHAEL tells it rented out SKYY LAR’s roost/place.

Word travels around the community that SKYY LAR returned alive and with a marvel fake leg. Fifteen thousand pigeons with one lost leg turn up to show concern and wish SKYY LAR well discussing what lies ahead or the future. SKYY LAR’s original flock, many diverse birds turn up to visit SKYY LAR. RAVEN arrives from Pembrokeshire Coast to spend the weekend and with an enticing proposition for SKYY LAR.

· Midpoint: SKYY LAR agrees to RAVEN’S proposal to join and lead a birds’ coalition/alliance against the Beauty Industry’s environmental harm.

· Lock In: After losing the left leg, forming and leading birds and human alliance against the Beauty Industry, infiltrating the Industry’s facility, and embarks on a mission/s to rescue birds harmed by chemical spills in a nearby river, SKYY LAR feels alive again. It is doing what he does better and will continue for a very long time until death does it part on the sixth birthday.

Module 3 – Lesson 2 – Pilot Inciting Incident:

Hiram Taylor: What I learned doing this assignment is that once a writer understands the 4 parts of a pilot it gives him an easy outline and understanding of the episode.

1. The Inciting Incident of my series is when Lily witnesses the audience members turning into light and disappearing at Rivina’s seminar. She came to expose Rivina as a fake but the vanishing people alter the storyline from the first act and set the real story Lily determined to discover the truth about what is really happening.

2. MAJOR BEATS:

1. INTRIGUING CONCEPT: A skeptical news reporter witnesses people turning into light and vanishing at a religious seminar she had planned to expose as fake. She becomes a believer and seeks to discover why and where the people have gone.

2. ACT ONE : A reporter and her cameraman expose a fake religious leader and present the story on the evening news. Her boss sends her on her next assignment to investigate a famous mystic that is gaining popularity. She takes her cameraman along to film the event.

3. MIDPOINT: At the event, suddenly people in the audience begin to turn into bodies of light and disappear. The cameraman gets it on film. They rush to the station to air the footage on the nightly news. Before they can show it, the mystic arrives and warns them not to show it on the air, her husband has disappeared listening to the recording. The cameraman rushes into the editing room determined to get the film on the air.

4. LOCK IN: While editing the film the cameraman turns into light and disappears as the editing room fills with light. The reporter and mystic are locked in to seeking the truth about what is really happening.
