What I learned doing this assignment is…JUST PUT SOMETHING DOWN ON PAPER”

“The Deadkeep”

Concept: A female
psychologist who can tell when people are lying is on assignment at a ‘special’
prison where the inmates are actually inhuman beings when a dead body is
found and the prison goes into lockdown and she must figure out who killer
is as more murders occur and the fanatical warden considers destroying the
place and all in it rather than see anyone escape.

Conventions

Hero: Sandra Curtis, a psychologist
with advanced skills in telling when people are lying. <div>

Demand For Action: Sent to a ‘special’
prison where the inmates are actually inhuman beings.

Mission: When a dead body is found
prison goes into lockdown, Sandra will never be able to leave unless she
can help figure out who killer is and neutralise them

Antagonist: The unknown killer, and
the fanatic prison administration.

Escalating Action: The killer continues
to strike and other prisoners are escaping, and there may be a ticking
clock where the warden will have the whole prison destroyed rather than
see anyone escape.

CONVENTIONS OF ACTION

<strong style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”>PURPOSE: To explore the cause of the Covid-19 virus breakout.

DEMAND FOR ACTION: A lone US facility is testing viruses and they package a brand new strand that is highly contagious and extremely dangerous. They ship it to facilities in Japan to run further tests. The contagion gets loose and kills (8) eight scientists in a matter of days.

MISSION: They try to contain the situation, but a vile breaks and they rush to the door to escape and become airborne. Extremely high-level scientists are flown to Japan to get a handle on this virus. Upon further examining the virus, it’s become out of control and the US pulls its people from Japan. The Hero must take down the antagonistic force, defend against overwhelming odds, or escape the unescapable.

ESCALATING ACTION: When the scientists return to the IUS, they become ill and are carriers of the virus unbeknownst to them. Two of them get hospitalized and die a few days after returning to the US. Unknown to the chief scientist, one scientist has the virus and is A-Sympptomatic causing a small outbreak in the lab. Then the virus becomes too great to hide from the news as more and more people become ill and start to die. Through great efforts the world becomes infected and cities all over the world shut down.

HERO: Penny Maze a world-renown scientist in germ warfare and her team are brought in to test and confine this virus.

ANTAGONISTS: The US government’s top disease authority downplays all the hipe of the deadly virus and headlines the news channels that the virus is being contained and is under control.

<font size=”2″>What I learned doing this assignment is deliver on the promise of action from beginning to end.</font>

CONCEPT: Government agent suspected of betraying her country must find the real traitor before her bosses capture or kill her.

CONVENTIONS:

-HERO: Government agent with unique blood alkaloid levels that enables her to store government secrets in her body and use specialized technology that enhances her physical abilities.

-DEMAND FOR ACTION: Prove her innocence and stay alive

-MISSION: Less than 18 hours to find traitor, avoid agents hunting her and stabilize the unique tech woven into her blood stream.

-ESCALATING ACTION: Boss sends other agents to kill her and then a specialized force to track her down and access the tech in her blood stream so that it turns against/weakens her making her an easier target.

-ANTAGONISTS: Agent’s boss who secretly murdered her mother and kidnapped her as a child

What I learned was to get my story squarely in the action genre. It is an ancient legend and I’m excited to see its potential to be written as full-on action.
