Lois’ Intriguing Concept and World
What I learned doing this assignment is…I think I have the parts to fill out this form. But it might all fit into a 2 hour movie.
1. Present your Concept.
A. Engaging and highly proactive hero… On the way to his birthday party, Meff learns he is a were-skunk – he turns into a skunk whenever he is sprayed by a skunk and becomes human again when he eats a rotten egg.
B. …up against a major conflict… He gets sold as a skunk to be entered in the skunk beauty contest
C. …goes on unique transformational journey… goes from fearing to enjoying his dual nature.
D. …Into an intriguing world. The world of Skunk Beauty Pageants.
2. Tell us the World of this show. Highly competitive skunk-lovers groom and train their skunks and give them beauty treatments – all in preparation for the annual competition. The whole town of Skunk Hollow comes out for this event.
Unique Sub-World: The world of were-skunks – “if you can’t be a gentleman, be a skunk.” Meff, his Aunt Abigail and his father are were-skunks. Dad promised not to shift when he married Mom. But, given the current circumstances Meff and Abigail can’t do it all.
Previously unexplored: The world of were-skunks and the world of Skunk Beauty Pageants – skullduggery is involved.
The unknown: What will Howland Mann make next in his line of Skunk Beauty Products and why does he want the mephiderite on Meff’s family skunk farm.
The unseen: Meff’s family keeps their secret identity secret (much like Superman)
Unheard of Dangers: Howland Mann is a were-owl IFF he gets his mephiderite-based drug. That’s not the only nefarious drug that he wants mephiderite for.
Reason to explore it: Skunk Beauty Pageants have all the fun and mystery of a carnival plus small town rivalries. Were-skunks are an unknown extra who have never entered one of these contests before in skunk form. But Meff has to because he’s stuck as a skunk who belongs to a woman who bought him to enter.

Griff’s Concept and Unique World
What I learned doing this assignment: When I was writing this as a feature screenplay I had Stephanie (the mom) as the protagonist and the boys were left behind. Now I see it as a coming-of-age story and the two brothers act together as the protagonists.
Concept
· Two teenage brothers…
· …discover their mother has gone missing
· …and must counter bureaucracy and survive life on the street
· …to follow clues into dangerous and unknown territory.
Unique Sub-world
· The social services and foster care system
· Previously unexplored: The splintered homeless community
· The unknown: The migrant world of Coyotes, border patrol, and abusive labor.
· The unseen: A corrupt and violent immigration system.
· Unheard of dangers from cops, street villains, and Coyotes.
· The reason to do this: Find Mom.

I have already improved on what I started with on my BW framework, so I am confident that it will progress and get better (more detail) as I work through these modules.
1. Concept
A: an English middle class horse trainer turns into a bad ass in order to find the whereabouts of her missing lover . . .
B: makes it all the more difficult as she is a closeted lesbian. . .
C: discovers her true grit . . .
D: as she slowly delves into the seedy criminal underworld
2. World
Unique Sub-World: the seedy underworld of English Criminals/Australian Colonies
Previously unexplored: how a lesbian of the 1830’s can raise in status and power
The Unknown: how the criminals will react to her and gain her trust
The Unseen: will she be arrested for her criminal activities?
Unheard of Dangers: will the criminals turn on her, can she keep her new found illegal activities a secret?
Reason To Explore It: she leaves no stone unturned and will do anything to find her lover, even if it means sailing to the Antipodes.

What I learned doing this assignment is that I need to trust the process and not worry about being perfect. Just keep going.
Lisa Molenda’s intriguing concept and World
1. Present your Concept.
A. Jane, a vegan activist
B. gets turned into a vampire
C. and has to reevaluate her ethics
D. in a world where she is not alone, but up against something bigger than she had ever imagined
2. Tell us the World of this show.
Unique Sub-World: The secret society of vampires
Previously unexplored: a vegan vampire
The unknown: How deep does the conspiracy go? How much control do the vampires have? How are they getting their blood? How are they not caught?
The unseen: human blood farms, secret society of rich vampires, average vampires who are lazy and don’t hunt,
Unheard of Dangers: vampire hunters, The O.C. Vampires, Jane getting caught hunting people, getting killed or sabotaged by Lucy
Reason to explore it: Haven’t seen vegan vampires on TV before, how will Jane navigate her ethics and her thirst for blood?

Luc’s Intriguing Concept and World: Limbo
What I learned doing this assignment is that it wasn’t as easy as I thought! It made me reconsider who may be my main character. Because my show has several central characters, with several stories happening at the same time (although all connected). Like in Westworld, it is hard to figure out who is the main character. Presenting the concept and world by first introducing only one engaging and highly proactive hero is hard. So I chose one for the concept and another one for the world…
1. Present your Concept.
A. Engaging and highly proactive hero… An 80 y/old lady in a coma, going through a Near Death Experience in a parallel world, wanders through the hospital having the body of her teens…
B. …up against a major conflict… She meets other patients in NDE, and falls in love with one of them, who is “only” 30
C. …goes on unique transformational journey… She hides her real age, to live a final love experience with him
D. …Into an intriguing world. …and must find ways to stop the intensive care staff from unplugging her.2. Tell us the World of this show.
Unique Sub-World: An intensive care unit, with a parallel world.Previously unexplored: Unlike ER, an intensive care unit is a place where patients are just kept alive, hooked to machines performing their vital functions for them.
The Unknown: It is also the place where therapeutic obstinacy is forbidden. Which means that at some point someone has to pull the plug. Who makes this decision? When? Why?
The Unseen: We know that sometimes, people in a coma get out of their body, going through a « Near Death Experience ». What if they could mingle in an parallel world, experiencing a new life together?
Unheard of Dangers: What if they could see the nursing staff making decisions impacting their lives, about which they disagree? Like when deciding to pull the plug? But can’t be heard pleading?
Reason to explore it: What if a lousy student, disregarded by the staff, could hear those voices? Having to serve as go-between, against his own will. Feeling responsible for his failure to be listened to by the staff.

Frank’s Intriguing Concept and World
What I learned doing this assignment is…
What I learned is that the Concept and World templates are easy formulas that I can use to begin honing in on what makes my show special. It got me thinking about how I can get to the essence of what makes my show intriguing, and be able to express that in a succinct way.
Assignment:
Present your concept and world.
1. Present your Concept.
- An orphan with amnesia discovers she has advanced scientific knowledge…
- …which she must use to fight a corrupt corporation as well as alien attackers…
- …as she uncovers the truth about her extra-dimensional origins…
- …while growing up in an alternate history America where slaves successfully overthrew the Confederacy.
2. Tell us the World of this show.
- Unique Sub-World: an alternate America where African slaves successfully revolted against the Confederacy and established their own nation in the Deep South.
- Previously Unexplored: one hundred years after, what would such a society look like?
- The Unknown: who is taking the land from the people of the Gulf Coast community?
- The Unseen: oil-and-gas corp exploiting the land, an alien interloper kidnapping people.
- Unheard of Dangers: aliens from another dimension, Union saboteurs trying to de-stabilize their democracy.
- Reason to Explore It: race relations between a successful democratic African-American state and the rest of the world; how can one girl transcend space-time to reunite with her family?
