I followed the instructions to find the producers of Notting Hill, but at “more” it takes me to a screen “Become a IMDbPro member today” and wants $12.50/month. The instructions should say to click “All cast and crew”!

Jeff’s Target Market
What I learned is (1) there are many producers that are untouchable (big names, and a guy in jail!), (2) seems like anyone can be a producer (one of the films on my list has 22!), and (3) I need to keep changing my logline—have 10-20 to suit the mood of the reader/listener/producer and the god-knows-what/who.
Title: The Best Painkiller
Logline: A doctor takes revenge when a swindler steals money intended for a baby’s life-saving treatment.
Genre: Thriller (crime/drama)
10 movies: Nocturnal Animals (2016), Dark Waters (2019), Mother (2017), Nightcrawler (2014), You Were Never Really Here (2017), Drive (2011), Split (2016), Black Swan (2010), Run (2010), Uncut Gems (2019).
6 actors: Jake Gyllenhaal, Oscar Isaac, Natalie Portman, Katrina Bowden, Isabela Merced, Adrien Brody.
It took many hours to do the process of copying & pasting the names to 15 pages. A hodge-podge of 100s of names. Now what? (The exercise is obvious and basic for those in the industry. But I don’t know anyone on the lists of producers.)

Stephen Maynard’s – Target Market
What I learned doing this assignment is, this is the easy part. THANKS FOR THAT. Now how to get USPS and e-mail addresses? Will that necessitate the purchase of a month of IMDb pro?
I see IMDb pro, “The essential resource for the entertainment industry” is offering a 30-day free trial. That’s the ticket!
TITLE: PANDORA’S OTHER BOX
LOGLINE: A sexually frustrated slacker grows rich and satiated selling transgenic WORMS that morph old ladies into gorgeous young submissive girls – who eat men’s faces.
GENRE: HORROR
FIVE + SIMILAR MOVIES:
THE THING, THE ENDLESS, REVENGE, HARPOON, THE GREEN ROOM, HIS HOUSE, THEY ARE NOT AFRAID, HEREDITY
FIVE + ACTORS:
Logan Wade Lerman, Elle Fanning, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Lucas Hedges, Kristina Pimenova, Johnny Sequoyah Friedenberg.
NAMES OF 100 + PRODUCERS: Got it.

Phyllis MacBryde – Target Market
In doing this assignment, I noticed that the P.G.A. producers are generally the Senior producers/production companies and they team with non-P.G.A. producers who I assume bring financing or soft money to the table. Following the threads, I also began to notice a few of non-P.G.A. producers cropping up working together on other films. Gathering names is just the beginning. The assignment helped me prioritize who to research further.
Title: CREATING ZINZI
Logline: A white playwright and a Black producer navigate clashing cultures and real-life perils to workshop an American musical in Africa. Working with indigenous artists leads to their shocking multi-cultural awakening and the realization that it is the Ancestor Spirits who will decide the musical’s fate.
Genre: Drama
Actors: Sally Field, Alfre Woodard
Movies with similar budget and cast: Juanita; Hello, My Name is Doris; Queen of Katwe
Producers:
Rebecca Cammarata, Daniela Taplin Lundberg, Riva Marker, Tiana Idoni-Matthews, Stefanie Azpiazu, Anthony Bregman, Monica Levinson, Jamie Patricof, Lynette Howell Taylor, Shivan Rawat, Dominique Telson, Nina Yang Bongiovi, Jenny Hinkey, Leah Holzer, Stephanie Kluft, Stephanie Allain, Jamie T Surenkamp, Betsy Danbury, Bronwyn Cornelius, Fiona Walsh Heinz, Janet Jeffries, Sofia Rovaletti, Lori McCreary, Morris Ruskin, Adrienne Becker, Dominique Telson

Tom’s Target Market
What I learned from this project is that, while I have used the IMDB list before, it is also a good place to jog your memory to people who might be able to help get you further down the road. I was away from writing for a decade. My old manager, though very high powered, just merged with another firm, and has not read my script, for almost a year. There are other people I might contact that were on the credits I researched. Maybe they can help with a new agent/manager or some might even be interested in producing.
Title: SAVING GRACE
Logline: A NHL practice goalie struggles to make the save of a lifetime to protect his daughter and his team’s season.
Genre: Drama
1A. I have a list of 40 similar films. The most helpful were films in my price range. (Moneyball, The Fighter, Miracle, Friday Night Lights, The Rookie)
1B. Danny – Jesse Plemons, Scott Eastwood, Michael B. Jordan, Wyatt Russell, Lucas Black; Abigail – Jean Smart, Holland Taylor, Dianne Weist, Blythe Danner, Diane Keaton
2. I have a list 100+ producers. Some I have connections/contacts with.
-
Plemons looks like he should be a goalie in the old days when they never wore masks! Nice. Can he skate? Doesn’t matter, does it? Nice choice on the female elders.
-
Jeff, The one thing that helps casting is he’s a goalie behind a mask, so skating isn’t as important.
I worked with Jessie when he was around ten years old on VARSITY BLUES. He’s made quite a career since then. He does have a great mug. I’ll look at your letter tomorrow.
Thanks! Tom
-
Hi Tom,

I’ll comment on your most recent posts within the next few days.
I appreciate your interest.

Paul’s Target Market
3. What I learned from this assignment is that it answered the question I was left with after Assignment 9. How to approach the search for producers to contact? It has been really interesting to follow Hal’s method, using IMDBPro to track down producers and actors. The difficult part has been meeting the second criteria: similar in budget.
4.
“Scarred for Life”
Cindy returns from a tour of duty in Afghanistan where a terrorist attack killed her 3 best buddies and left her horribly scarred, but she soon gets the chance to wreak revenge.
Thriller
1. I went for movies that either had a terrorist theme and/or a fighting leading lady and came up with:
The 15:17 to Paris (2018)
American Sniper (2014)
Ava (2020)
Thank You For Your Service (2017)
The Old Guard (2020)
Whiteout (2009)
Agent Salt (2010)
Although they are clearly not all in my budget range.
But this has given me a list of 10 actresses (9 when I have to leave out Angelina Jolie who is probably not available!)
2. I identified 54 producers who have worked on movies with related themes. The search continues….
END
-
The Lesson is using IMDB, not IMDBPro… That’s why I asked: “Now what?” I have 100s of names with no contact info…

I learned that there are a lot more producers out there than I thought, and once you find one, finding more is like falling dominoes. I do wonder why a producer of a big movie, wouldn’t take a try at a smaller budget movie if the potential for profit is just as high. (I did not find the link to a video that Hall mention where he did the same search for a Horror Movie. Did anyone else see the link?)

Barry’s Target Market:
I learned how easy it is to trace through a feature film and identify producers, directors and actors who have attachments to other films and more producers, directors and actors.
Title: A Taste of Cold Steel.
Logline: When a Chicago gangster’s son attempts to reunite with his brother, his efforts threaten the organization; he must die. In confronting his father, a split second changes the son’s life: the brother dies, the father is shot and the son takes over the father’s business.
Genre: Crime-drama.

The Departed, Donnie Brasco, Goodfellas, Heat, The Irishman.

“Eulogy for the Damned”
One-Hour Serial Western
To clear his name, a Black outlaw is forced to join forces with his ex-partner and recruit a gang of murderers before he’s deemed expendable.
What I learned doing this assignment is to keep digging on IMDB for likely producers. Don’t dismiss smaller production companies either.
Make a list of five or more movies that are similar to yours and five actors that you might want to play your lead characters.
Series Comps: Hell on Wheels, Godless, The Son, The Good Lord Bird, Justified, Longmire
Actor – Isaiah Cooper (protagonist): Brandon J. Bell, Jay Ellis, Aldis Hodge, Anthony Montgomery
Actor – Jeb Hesse (antagonist): Dean Winters, Samuel West, Jason Isaacs
Using the Targeting process above, go to http://www.imdb.com and find 50 to 100 producers (or more) for your specific project.
I expanded the search beyond Western TV series and recent films and am focusing on action thriller series like “Justified” and “Sons of Anarchy.” I have aprox. 200+ targeted producers identified between IMDB and LinkedIn.
