    Rebecca’s Continuing Act 3

Vision: My success in this program will lead me to be the go-to writer for producers looking for incredible scripts for successful movies enjoyed by a vast viewing audience.

What I learned from doing this assignment is not to read anything written in the previous session because it distracts you from writing forward. You will want to make corrections or changes that can wait until the next draft. It also opens the door for self-doubt to slip in, the inner critic.

How it’s going: I became driven to finish Act 3 the more I became involved in the story. Whenever I felt compelled to read earlier scenes, I reminded myself that it could wait until the next draft not to ruin my forward momentum. I am now one day into writing Act 4 and excited about the progress I made.

I look forward to my session tomorrow.

My vision: Be recognized as a writer that will work with the industry and would do what it takes to be that WRITER.

    EMPOWERED!

What I learned from doing this assignment as the script is approaching its last scene. It had been an experience that I didn’t even imagine I could do. Write 6-10 pages per day, a feat I have not done before I took this course.

    IMPRESSIVE.

    Pat’s Continuing Act 3

Vision: I have the talent and tenacity to create contest winning screenplays, and I will go on to have my scripts optioned and produced.

What I Learned: Continue moving forward, even though I was discouraged by what I’d written the day before. I went from feeling that there really was no reason to keep writing my crappy little story to feeling empowered and pleased with what I produced today. Also, stick to the outline. I was tempted to switch a couple of scenes around, but I quickly realized that I can do that in another rewrite. In this first draft I really must stick to the outline!

: Jeffrey Alan Chase Continuing Act 3

My vision: I am an “A” list writer who is known for high concept ideas, great execution, a string of successful movies and is always ready to share his knowledge and do what he can to help another writer on the way up.

What I learned from doing this assignment is: To never stop writing. To keep pushing the ball forward. What I learned is that starting from a well-thought out and well-planned outline gave me a great roadmap to quickly write the script. I’ve been researching this script for nearly 20 years, about the same amount of time that the protagonist has been without the memory of her childhood. Hope that’s an omen for good things in the future. I look forward to elevating the script. 😊

    Title: Shards

    Genre: Psychological Thriller

Logline: A woman with no childhood memory is involved in a cat and mouse game with a cunning hypnotist not knowing the man is responsible for both her amnesia and the death of her treasure hunter father.

My Vision: I want to be a great award-winning, successful writer, known for her genre, who creates the most beautiful films that inspire others to feel deeply, pause, and ponder ways to make the world a better place

Title: THE NUN AND THE WITCH

    Genre: (mystical /Sci-fi )

Concept: A dedicated nun destined to become a saint, bonds with a witch to achieve a sacred task to battle the evils of hatred consuming the heart of humanity, only to find out that time is running out.

HOW IT WENT. I think right now what I am seeing as a problem that I will have to fix is that my dialogue at times s too on the nose. By draft two it should hopefully be better.

    KRISTIN CONTINUING ACT 3

VISION: I want the personal, professional, and financial freedom and joy that come from writing so well that I’m in demand, selling beyond my wildest dreams, and making worthy projects—on a big scale and with my active, collegial participation.

WHAT I LEARNED in this assignment: That my relationship with speed is relative. I can in general “go fast,” but I find it’s “okay” to take a moment when I feel like taking a moment. What I’m learning is the difference between allowing something to flesh out on its own and “making it really good.” If it WANTS to, it can. If it’s NOT READY, then I keep moving.

HOW’S IT GOING? Still chugging along pretty well. Feeling as if Acts 2 and 3 are less fleshed out than Act 1, so that bothers me—but I’m trying not to think about it too much. After all, this is just 30%, right?

Farrin Rosenthal is Continuing Act 3

Farrin’s Vision: To do what it takes to become a highly paid A-List Hollywood writer whose produced movies will entertain audiences around the world.

What I learned doing this assignment is to keep going no matter what. As I write my third act, I’m finding my act 3 outline is thin, meaning something is missing. The good news is as I write each scene, new ideas are coming to me, which allows me to expand the act to a more proper length. And if I can’t figure out a scene, I skip ahead to scenes I can write fast. Then I backtrack and fill in those scenes I skipped. Zooming to act 4!

Vision: I am doing what I love to do as a writer with several successful produced movies.

What I learned doing this assignment is to keep empowered and moving forward. I love the quote from Richard Bach! I was able to write 3 pages per day, however I realized that some of my scenes need to expand to honor the outline.

    Tracy’s Continuing Act 3

I will do whatever it takes to become a successful author and screenwriter with multiple successful films produced.

Work has been crazy busy for the past few weeks. My staff and I at the Welcome Center are opening our first public exhibit on the mourning fashions and rituals of the Victorian era, as well as organizing the city’s first-ever ghost tour. Guess who wrote the script! We sold out. Now we just have to deliver.

A few weeks ago our HVAC line in the attic got clogged, leaked, and our upstairs bathroom ceiling fell in, necessitating an unexpected renovation. Yay! I get new bathrooms!

Boy, am I glad I’m adapting a novel I wrote using Screenwriting U techniques. When I finally got back to the first draft, I was able to pound out dozens of pages on Saturday, and even more today.

I got all the way to the end of Act 4!

Anyway, that’s why I hadn’t posted in the forums for Module 5 yet.

Leona Heraty is Continuing Act 3

My Vision: To be the best family comedy screenwriter in the industry where my screenplays are produced into fabulous movies, making audiences laugh a lot and making me independently wealthy!

What I learned from doing this assignment is…to always do the empowerment exercise before I write and then just have fun and keep writing, without judgment!

    Title:
    Tara vs. the Termo-Lytes
    Genre: Comedy (Sci-fi)
Concept: A teenage tour guide with no sense of direction and an extreme fear of bugs takes a wrong turn and leads her group to an abandoned country club that’s overrun with giant mutant termites.

How the high-speed writing rules are working for me with starting Act 3:
The process for first draft is working great and I’m moving ahead with Act 3. My outline is a little thin and I will need to add more scenes because the script is too short, but that’s OK. Right now, I just want to finish Act 3, since this is the first draft, and I’m only going for 30 percent. I will add more scenes in Draft 2. So it’s all OK!

It went well today. I’d been away from the script for 2 day due to work/health but once I had an opening in my schedule I made progress. I know I’ll get caught up.

    Erik Wooten–Continuing Act 3

My vision is to achieve true excellence as a screenwriter which causes me to be a consistently working writer, with actual movies made from some of my scripts, and to become wealthy as a screenwriter, develop relationships in the movie industry where I am recognized as a truly original writer, and to become indispensable in the market in which I want to write.

What I learned doing this assignment…

With each assignment, my comfort-zone writing habits are shrinking further into the background.

The challenge of high-speed writing every day is becoming fun, and though I still have to use discipline at times and some sessions go quicker than others, ALL of them are better than before I started using these rules.

What I learned doing this assignment is… I did 6 pages today and I am up to page 70 with one scene to go in act 3. I am pushing myself further and further to write without censoring for this 30% first draft. Today I jumped into scenes where I have no experience with the context but just let it come out without worrying about research or … reality. And it felt good! It can change later, and I actually kind of liked what did come out — maybe some of it is OK.
