Farrin Rosenthal is Finishing Act 3

Farrin’s Vision: To do what it takes to become a highly paid A-List Hollywood writer whose produced movies will entertain audiences around the world.

What I learned doing this assignment is mistakes happen when speed writing and it’s okay. Why? Because we know this is just the first draft and we will have a chance to fix all mistakes later. As I finish writing act 3, I’m discovering it’s made of Swiss cheese, meaning it’s full of holes. And any holes I can’t fix, I’ll deal with later. Meanwhile, I’m moving ahead into act 4 and will write the scenes there I can write fast. This is a bad analogy, but the train has lost it brakes and nothing can stop it. Moving ahead no matter what.

    Rebecca Finished Act 3.

Vision: My success in this program will lead me to be the go-to writer for producers looking for incredible scripts for successful movies enjoyed by a vast viewing audience.

I learned from this assignment that to keep writing forward, do not read backward. Let the words flow for this draft and save trimming pages and everything else for future drafts to avoid interfering with the creative flow.

How’s it going? I completed Act 3 several days ago but decided to apply the lessons learned to write Act 4. I finished Act 4 last night. I am amazed at the results of the speed writing technique and myself. I wrote the entire first draft in 15 days, something I would think impossible two weeks ago. The more I wrote, the easier it got. Thank you, Hal and Cheryl.

My vision: I am an “A” list writer who is known for high concept ideas, great execution, a string of successful movies and is always ready to share his knowledge and do what he can to help another writer on the way up.

What I learned from doing this assignment is: To always keep pushing the ball forward. Having a well-planned outline gave me a great roadmap to quickly write pages. It’s a great feeling to see this script coming to fruition. I look forward to elevating the script.

    Sandra Finished Act 3

Vision: I am doing what I love to do as a writer with several successful produced movies.

What I learned doing this assignment is that by keeping empowered I was able to write 3 pages per day and finish Act 3. However, I see gaps, and don’t like some of the scenes and the flow of the Act. I’m still learning not to wordsmith and how to accept an awful first draft, being open to making mistakes, and firing my inner critic.

Leona Heraty is Finishing Act 3

My Vision: To be the best family comedy screenwriter in the industry where my screenplays are produced into fabulous movies, making audiences laugh a lot and making me independently wealthy!

What I learned from doing this assignment is…it’s totally liberating to write quickly and without wordsmithing and judgment!

    Title: Tara vs. the Termo-Lytes
    Genre: Comedy (Sci-fi)
Concept: A teenage tour guide with no sense of direction and an extreme fear of bugs takes a wrong turn and leads her group to an abandoned country club that’s overrun with giant mutant termites.

How the high-speed writing rules are working for me with finishing Act 3:
The rules are working great for me! I’m getting Act 1 down on paper and that’s the main thing!

    Pat is finished Act 3

Vision: I have the talent and tenacity to create contest winning screenplays and will go on to have my scripts optioned and produced.

What I learned: It is so necessary to write from an empowered place. When I think about how crappy my first draft is, it’s easy for me to get discouraged. I must always remind myself that this is the version that’s supposed to be crappy. Improvements will come in future drafts. And I really must empower before writing.

    My Vision:
I want to be a great award-winning, successful writer, known for her genre, who creates the most beautiful films that inspire others to feel deeply, pause, and ponder ways to make the world a better place

Title: THE NUN AND THE WITCH

    Genre: (mystical /Sci-fi )

Concept: A dedicated nun destined to become a saint, bonds with a witch to achieve a sacred task to battle the evils of hatred consuming the heart of humanity, only to find out that time is running out.

HOW IT WENT. A bit of touch up for the last scene in Act 3 . I will need to fill in a few scenes in the second draft to have decent page count. I noted there is a lot of visual action in this script. Will work on some dialogue.

    ROBERT SMITH FINISHING ACT 3

MY VISION FOR SUCCESS AFTER THIS PROGRAM

I want to become a great writer who delivers entertaining, informative, and uplifting scripts that sell and get produced.

WHAT I LEARNED FROM DOING THIS ASSIGNMENT IS…?

Working in 5-15 chunks works for me as an alternative. Keeping empowered is all important.

HOW IS IT GOING FOR YOU?

Act 3 is finished, not going smoothly but I love it in it’s glorious imperfection.

    KRISTIN FINISHING ACT 3

VISION: I want the personal, professional, and financial freedom and joy that come from writing so well that I’m in demand, selling beyond my wildest dreams, and making worthy projects—on a big scale and with my active, collegial participation.

WHAT I LEARNED in this assignment: That things definitely percolate in the background. I’ll be doing something totally “else,” when I look up suddenly and realize, “oh, I can do THIS with that character.” Or even, “wait a minute… I can…” and a whole new concept stands there, looking at you.

HOW’S IT GOING? Going well. I have other work that I have to intersperse, so I don’t actually “get to write every day.” However, my brain is working all the time, so when I do sit down, things are generally smooth. I have a few gaps in the story, where I don’t know what to do—so I just marked them and kept going. Also, I think I’ll be quite long, and the script is not balanced re: act length—but I’m finding that the 30% mantra HAS SAVED ME from freaking out.

    Vision:
I get paid to write screenplays that get made into crowd pleasing successful films using a process that allows me to keep up my equestrian hobby.

What I learned doing this assignment is what a shitty first draft actually means and to do whatever to get it done. This is giving me insight into why I’ve got several unfinished screenplays. I look forward to applying this process in the future.

Migraines have put me behind at work making it hard to find even small bits of time for screenwriting. My act 3 had the most scenes so Act 4 will go more quickly. I hope I can solve all these problems in draft 2!

MY Vision: To empower myself to be an A+ List writer, actress, producer whose scripts are optioned, sought after and made into TV shows & Film that inspire, receive critical acclaim, awards and are financially successful and emotional satisfying.

What I learned that once I got going and catching up I wanted to keep the momentum going and it went faster and easier than ever. Today I completed act 3! I wrote over 20+ pages which proved to me that I can do it. I still am going to work more today as I’m on a roll and really want to catch up. The empowerment exercise feels like a mantra : I LOVE MOVING FORWARD WITH MY SCRIPT. So this posting will be the same so Les 11 So I can jump into act 4. I’m looking forward to it!

MY Vision: To empower myself to be an A+ List writer, actress, producer whose scripts are optioned, sought after and made into TV shows & Film that inspire, receive critical acclaim, awards and are financially successful and emotional satisfying.

What I learned that once I took away all the rules of how I thought I should do it and make it perfect, I soared. It was daunting when I realized that even though I copied over my outline I realized there was some holes and that scenes needed to come before or after. But I tried to stay true to the pitch/outline. Again I reassured myself in the other drafts I would fix as that was what they were for. NOW Onwards to Act 4, it feels great to move ahead and not linger or be stuck. I also noticed others were also behind and it helped me to see I wasn’t the only one but I’d love to break the habit of being behind and this course is helping

Do State-To-Activity empowerment process. State: I am totally committed…

Activity: …to writing this as a high speed first draft!

    Claudia’s Finishing Act 3

Vision: To become such an excellent writer that I know every script I write will be well received by the industry, that my scripts will sell and be produced, and I’ll live the life of my dreams.
To also become so empowered that fear is to be laughed at, instead I relish and look forward to pitching, meetings and much more.

How’s It Going – Writing was going much faster thanks to the timer, but tonight I was exhausted and feeling discombobulated. I had to force myself to focus (that was a struggle as I literally fell asleep sitting in front of my laptop!) I had hoped to get a few scenes from ACT 4 done tonight but it will have to wait.

    Joe McGloin finishing Act III

Vision: I am a talented, highly regarded, efficient, relaxed, happy, WGA screenwriter

What I learned doing this assignment is to relax about dealing with the story issues that arise, like having to foreshadow elements that seem to appear out of nowhere, because they will be dealt with down the road. I have confidence they will.

How it’s going: I have apparently already been using many of the speed writing skills when writing my first drafts, except that the process used to be quite painful – I called it giving birth [like I would know – HA!] And I did not use an outline. Those are two keys to making this part of the process quite enjoyable.

Vision: I am going to do whatever it takes to be a great writer of TV and movies who is sought after by people I respect within the industry and has multiple successful TV series produced.

What I learned doing this assignment is… I finished act 3. Really feeling the benefit of letting go of quality. The final scene in the act is quite emotional and dark, so the first pass at it may be preposterous — or maybe not. I’ll see when I go back to it. But it doesn’t matter… Really getting used to this practice of slapping down the first draft is freeing. It flowed out quite spontaneously.
