What I learned doing this assignment is again the value of speed writing to produce a 20% draft.

Outline Key Scene 2: New Plan
INT. COUNTING ROOM – MORNING
BEGINNING: Virgil and Forrest what’s not working.
MIDDLE: They decide the company safety meeting is the only way
END: They quickly prepare outlines for today’s safety meeting
Outline Key Scene 3: Things don’t go well because…
INT. EDGAR’S OFFICE – AFTERNOON
BEGINNING: Virgil is reminded of the superintendent’s meeting following the last safety meeting like the one that took place this morning
MIDDLE: That safety meeting resulted in the Company addressing the reactor and off-gas problems I presented.
END: If you and Forrest are looking for trouble, you’re damn well found it!
Write Key Scene 2, Act 3: Makes a New Plan
INT. UNIT 3 COUNTING ROOM – MORNING
Virgil and Forrest are taking their mid-morning coffee break.
FORREST
I don’t know if we really want to bring up those things at the safety meeting.
VIRGIL
I’m going to. We got some things done the last time we used the safety meeting.
FORREST
True, but we were told never to do that again.
VIRGIL
I know, Forrest, I know but the Union won’t do anything, we can’t talk to AEC compliance inspectors when they’re in the plant, and management won’t address our radiation safety issues. I’m sick of it and I think you are too.
FORREST
There will be trouble in it if you do it, Virgil.
VIRGIL
I know but now’s the time for me to step up to the plate.
FORREST
Well, if you’re going to do it then I’m going to join with you.
Virgil looks at the notes he’s taken, checks some of them and shows it to Forrest,
VIRGIL
If you want to, okay. Here’s what I jotted down while we talking and I’ve checked what I want to cover. Anything on there you’d like to cover?
Forrest looks at Virgil’s notes and jots down some things.
FORREST
I’ve got my list and it’s time to head out to the Assembly Building.
Write Key Scene 3, Act 3: Things don’t go well because…
INT. EDGAR’S OFFICE – AFTERNOON
Edgar, Virgil, and Warren are in Edgar’s office. Warren is sitting off to a side looking like an observer.
EDGAR
Do you remember what you and everyone else were told at Warren’s meeting following the last safety meeting like what took place this morning?
VIRGIL
I do.
EDGAR
What the hell were you thinking?
VIRGIL
The last safety meeting got the biological shielding we needed to reduce exposure at the reactor water and off-gas sampling stations.
EDGAR
You were told to work through your first line-supervisors.
VIRGIL
That has proven not to work.
EDGAR
What you did this morning was clearly intended to put fear into the employees, embarrass plant management, and outright attack the Company. What you and Forrest did this morning was tantamount to industrial sabotage and I’m going to see to it that you pay for what you did this morning.
VIRGIL
Is that some kind of threat?
EDGAR
Take it as you will but the Company has run out of patience with you.

Rob Springfield’s Act 3 Middle Scenes
What I learned doing this assignment is how the protagonist’s journey is heightened by the kinds of obstacles they encounter.
NEW PLAN
INT. AIRPLANE – DAY
BEGINNING: Mark uploads a file that shows all types of defensive tactics embedded on the app. He sees the app as a weapon that can save their lives. He will utilize all of the advantages of the app that’s available. He immerses his full attention to studying the app.
MIDDLE: Mark gives Jeff an ambiguous view of the app’s capabilities. He continues to hide the circumstances regarding the app by avoidance.
END: Mark receives a suspicious reaction from another passenger, but doesn’t dwell on it.
THINGS GO WELL, UNTIL…
INT. AIRPLANE – DAY (MOVING)
BEGINNING: Mark sees that his Ann is having trouble on her phone so he gives her some pointers. She can’t believe it and thanks him. Jeff and Julie puzzle at one another, they are also in disbelief. Mark says something annoying to counter his kindness.
MIDDLE: A movie captures the family’s attention; they watch it, then doze off a bit. All seems calm, not a care in the world.
END: The family is lured out of their seats one by one as a note that is passed around. The killers take them to a lower compartment. Jeff tries to resist and gets stabbed. The rest of them become submissive and cooperative. They take the app phone from Mark (he gives them a different phone) so he won’t try the same thing. They plan to kill Jeff right there because they know that Mark can access the account as well. They’re about to slice Jeff’s neck, Mark is helpless. There’s nothing that can be done. It’s all over.

Subject: Arial’s Act 3 – Key Scene Outlines
What I learned doing this assignment is…that I’m going to keep making changes! LOL
Key Scene 2: Makes a New Plan
Aylen and Gwen find the goblin treasure. Aylen is rich and Gwen encourages her to forget her plans of revenge and enjoy the treasure instead. But Aylen refuses. She asks Gwen to go to Radario and use her thieves guild connections to learn what has happened to Aylen’s family, friends and enemies since she was sent to prison. In the meantime, Aylen will go off to the Lyceum of Havencrest to finish her lessons in magic. They will rendezvous just outside of Radario once Aylen is done in Havencrest.
And the plans go off well. Tanyth and Qiren are caught in Aylen’s web and justice is served. When she makes her move to take down Dylan she discovers he was never a part of the plan to put Aylen in jail.
They reunite and make love. Revised storyline – Aylen went to prison pregnant and had the baby there, but her daughter was taken away from her and sold on the black market. Her whereabouts are unknown and they grieve for the loss of their child. But being with Dylan makes Aylen realize this path to revenge is eating away her soul. She has more money than the Queen. They have each other. She knows magic. They could do and be anything. She decides she’s going to abandon her quest to take down Kylantha and walk away. She and Dylan split in the morning so he can tie up loose ends and pack. They plan to rendezvous and leave with Gwen.
Key Scene 3: Things Go Well, Until…
But Kylantha has Dylan arrested and she lures Aylen into a final confrontation with her with Dylan as the bait.

Harley Grant’s Act 3 Middle Scenes
What I learned doing this assignment is that I didn’t realize how much tension I could create with having things go well and then take a bad turn.
Act 3, Key Scene 2
Beginning: Priyanka pulls up to a cabin on a lake. This is where her family used to spend the summer before her parents died. She walks up to the front door, opens it, and no one is there.
Middle: Priyanka opens empty cabinets, drawers with only cutlery, and a fridge with some stale food. Then, she takes her time to examine family photos. Priyanka pauses while looking at one picture with just her father and her. She smiles and decides to take it with her. As Priyanka begins to walk out, she hears a rustling under the floorboards. She turns around and her father Brahm walks up from a hidden door in the floor.
End: Beginning: Brahm and Priyanka embrace. She is in complete shock. Brahm explains that he was in a medically induced coma for a year. When he woke up, his partner Ranu explained that Rohan had killed his wife and nearly killed him. Ranu persuaded Brahm that would be best if he stayed “dead” until things were either safe or it was necessary for him to come out of hiding. As a result of Rohan being released from prison, Brahm decided to have Ranu reach out to Priyanka.
Act 3, Key Scene 3:
Beginning: Priyanka has a ton of questions and explains to her father that Rohan has taken Sia. They decide that they will need to develop a plan to get Sia back.
Middle Brahm tells Priyanka that according to Ranu, Rohan has taken Sia to the family home with Raj who does not know that he is alive. Brahm tells her that he designed the house and it cannot be penetrated. Priyanka laughs and explains that she found a secret route out when she was a teen. Brahm smiles. Priyanka is smiling.
End: Things go well, until… The door swings open. Raj walks in. He points a gun at Brahm and says, “Hi, old man.”
