    ASSIGNMENT 1: BW AUGUST 19

Subject line: Ron Three Circles of Characters

“What I learned doing this assignment is how to rethink about my stories and how best to bring their foundations out more before I write. And I am already thinking about the characters, their motivations and what will be driving my stories more, their engines from which I will create a better story than if I had just outlined, written and rewrote. There is a lot of meat in this.

    Supplemental: LOST EPISODE 2-

I watched the characters develop more not because they talked but because they got more and more situations thrown at them. And I will have to see how I can do this to the shows I am working on developing. But I may have to go back and fine tune more stories after taking that 23 steps in rewriting podcast as well. Lots of work to do, but it will help producers stories and characters they can’t stop reading about and that is my goal.

    SHOW: LOST

    A. Main Characters Circle:

Jack, Kate, Sayid, Sawyer and Charles .

    B. Connected Circle:

The Korean couple, The African American man and his son, the older man with scar, the brother and sister and Hugo.

    C. Environment Circle:

The pregnant lady, THE Korean man and scared older man and random people on the plane.

Give us a quick list for each circle.

    ASSIGNMENT 2:

    1. Create the three circles of characters for your show.

    2. Give us a one sentence description of each of the Main Characters.

    Show 1 SIGMA 2619

TAG LINE-A humanoid alien is tasked with finding a tech that has been used on earth to alter minds of those who come under it’s powers. The humanoid comes from a desolate planet that will be destroyed even more if he doesn’t retrieve it by a set time.

    Main Characters

Bruce-a humanoid alien who feels powerless sent to earth to retrieve a device that helps change the thoughts of people.

THE WHISPERER – a mysterious figure who is using the power to control people. We don’t know if she is good or bad.

Special Agents tasked to find out what is going on.

Agent one-ambitious to climb this MEN IN BLACK agency.

Agent two-barely keeping it together but is a no-nonsense girl who often will throw the first punch and has a funny thing to say.

    CONNECTED CIRCLE

-Laurilee the first victim of this device who is picked because of her beauty to pull of an assassination.

    C. Environment Circle:

    Bankrobbers-

Randomly chosen people-chosen to rob a bank and when caught they won’t have cognition of who or what they have done or seen. It seems skills might be inserted into them.

Show 2 KIDNAPPING OF CASEY K

TAGLINE A very centered character CASEY K as he is known throws these Annual parties and invites people who has surrounded himself with who love and fear and even hate him to come to his masked party. It is a checklist of people he has helped or who he helped out of life-threatening events back to solid ground. All Cases asks is to be around if he needs a favor and to show up at his annual parties. Like a puppy being paraded around it feels like for some.

    MAIN CHARACTERS

MALARY-A GEN Z girl who always gets caught up with the wrong crowd. Casey bailed her out of too many jams financial and love.

KEN-Casey funded him develop some apps when no one would and now he owes Casey.

YUKAI -still fleshing out her character. Casey has people either love or hate him but hey must come to one of his parties.

ROGER -Also not developed yet or assigned yet but will be part of the group requested by Casey to come to one of his events.

    CONNECTED CIRCLE

-the KIDNAPPERS-we don’t know a heck of a lot about them except they pretended to be event planners to get close to the victim who throws one of his annual parties. They are well organized and maybe directly connected or not a victim of Casey business expansion.

CASEY-He is the main victim of the kidnapping but not the main character

    ENVIRONMENTAL CIRCLE

-Yumai-not sure yet her role. She might be coming with one of the mains.

Elaine-also not developed yet but invited indirectly.

Benjamin- Also invited by Casey to be at this event. He might be a support for now.

    ASSIGNMENT 1 – AUG, 19TH

SUBJECT LINE: Deb S. Three Circles of Characters

“What I leaned doing this assignment is that the series I picked to study has a trermendous amount of characters and the writers/director/producers did an amazing job in introducing them all. They did do it in a two part pilot, so I am wondering if I can creat an interesting-enough world to justify introducing everyone in a two hour episode. I don’t think I’ll have the 48 survivors that are supposed to be on the island in LOST but in my series, I want to give myself enough key characters to keep the audience interested.

    SHOW: LOST

    1. BULLSEYE MAIN CHARACTERS CIRCLE:

    JACK, KATE, CHARLIE, HURLEY

    2. CONNECTED CIRCLE:

    BOONE, SAWYER, SAYID, SHANNON, CLAIRE

    3. ENVIRONMENT CIRCLE:

JIN-SOO KWON, SUN-HWA KWON, ROSE, MICHAEL & SON WALT

I like your assessment of LOST, also my assignment. We put our characters in different circles but that is alright.

And I think you will have enough characters in your TV show (I’m still developing mine).

We’ll get better as we get most experience writing, reading and so-fourth.

      All the best Deborah,

Thanks Ron, I am still trying to think of the best names for my characters!! I am not doing a binge worthy series based on my Great Uncle- that is a screenplay. I am doing a series based on my experiences as a cater/waiter and family helper for the past TOO MANY YEARS! Despite that NDA, I think I can get some juicy stories out here

          I hear you Deborah,

I also worked in the food industry for many years. I didn’t have an NDA to sign. So, all my memories are intact to share or develop or be inspired from. That is all we can do is tell the stories we know. I was lucky as well to have a few pictures and a lot of active friends from there on FB still.

I wouldn’t worry about the names. As Hal said there was one lady with a finished story who after taking the course went back and revamped her story again. It is like doing a trip or an experience again, a do-over!!

All the best in your rewriting and writing. We are all being given a 2nd chance,

          Ron

    “What I learned

<st1:city w:st=”on”><st1:place w:st=”on”>Tracy</st1:place></st1:city>‘s Three Circles of Characters for “El Pueblo”

    1. Create the three circles of characters for your show.

    · A. Main <st1:street w:st=”on”><st1:address w:st=”on”>Characters Circle</st1:address></st1:street>:

    1. Antonia de la Cruz, 17, fearful of being married off to an old rancher rather than getting to pick who she loves since young women are a commodity in a region short on females, falls hard for the pirate Joseph over the elegant, educated Lucas who has been courting her.

    2. Joseph Chapman, 25, the captured pirate ship’s Yankee carpenter, is the only white-skinned, blue-eyed, blond man in all of Spanish California, a Baptist among Catholics, who confounds the villagers when he begs to stay in this alien world shut off from Americans and Europeans.

    3. Father Diego Perez, 28, Antonia’s tutor, a Catholic priest who comes from a wealthy merchant family of clandestine Jews in <st1:country-region w:st=”on”><st1:place w:st=”on”>Mexico</st1:place></st1:country-region>, immediately sees value in Joe’s shipbuilding skills, and argues for keeping him.

    4. Lucas Polanco, 19, love interest of Antonia though he’s the 14th child with no means to support her except his job as clerk for his uncle the Mayor, immediately senses a rival in Joseph the foreigner and leads the faction opposing him staying in El Pueblo.

    5. Thomas Fisher, 22, a run-away slave from <st1:state w:st=”on”><st1:place w:st=”on”>South Carolina</st1:place></st1:state> who found freedom on the sea as a mercenary for any country that paid his salary for the past eight years before being captured in El Pueblo, wants to stay when he sees there are no white Americans in the entire Spanish frontier except his bunkmate Joseph.

    · B. Connected Circle:

    6. Senora Guadalupe Moreno, 56, is Antonia’s grandmother, one of the last original settlers of El Pueblo and the town’s fierce matriarch, who sees in Joseph an opportunity to elevate the family’s Zamba caste based on skin color.

    7. Don Antonio Lugo, 45, the richest rancher in the region who led the battle against the pirates, inexplicably took a liking to Joseph against the Inquisition and Spanish crown’s orders against foreigners and saved him from a firing squad.

    8. Gertrudis, 33, Antonia’s recently widowed, pregnant aunt whom Antonia lives with as nanny to her children, which has been her reprieve from her grandmother’s marriage brokering.

    9. Antonia’s cousin Elisa, married off at age 15 to a wealthy rancher in the countryside, with stepchildren nearly the same age.

    10. Antonia’s best friend <st1:city w:st=”on”><st1:place w:st=”on”>Petra</st1:place></st1:city>, 17, of lower social status but higher caste.

    · <st1:street w:st=”on”><st1:address w:st=”on”>C. Environment Circle</st1:address></st1:street>:

    · Maria Josepha, Native American house servant of Senora Moreno; Tomasa Garcia, perpetual nemesis of Senora Moreno; Mayor Polanco, Lucas’ uncle; Commander Hipolito Bouchard, merciless captain of the pirate/privateer ship; Antonia’s girl friends; villagers; Spanish soldiers/officers; free Native Americans; missionized Native American laborers/captives; overseer of the mission; Father Zalvidea, Head of the San Gabriel Mission/Indian plantation.

What I learned from this assignment: The 2nd episode of Big Little Lies really solidifies that this story is going to gravitate between four couples. They seem to be drawn into the conflicts through their children and school, at this point. Their relationships as couples are also on the rocks, so it’s revealing what’s going on behind closed doors, peak by peak. Lots of scenes. Music plays a big role in creating the mood, making this show resembling a movie more than what I’m used to seeing on television.

Three Circles of Characters – Main Characters

Stuart (Protagonist) – (48), Marine Biologist, smart, self-absorbed in his own inventive spirit, loves to explore, gets along better and likes animals and water creatures more than people.

Sean – Stuart’s son, (21) in university studying to be an engineer. Is living with his girlfriend and future wife. He is helpful to Stuart and sympathetic about all he’s went through.

Boris – (67 years) wheelchair ridden due to an accident. He’s well educated and of Russian heritage and has a sense of humour as dry as his vodka. He plays a mean game of chess.

Maddy – (76) attractive, former actress, flirty, is always wary of appearances. She’s been married three times and would like Stuart to be the fourth. She can be gossipy and a drama queen in many respects.

Geovanno- (72) He’s a large burly man of Italian descent, who once owned a restaurant business, but lost it to gambling. He has some dangerous men after him. He likes Stuart.

Aggie (80) – a feisty, God-fearing country woman, who says what she thinks and quite bluntly. She likes to collect or hoard things. She’s crafty and wants to be the champion Bridge player. She believes Stuart is receiving preferential treatment at the home.

Sandra Meade – (42) Counsellor at Cuckoo Valley. She’s intelligent, attractive and introspective and eventually becomes Stuart’s love interest.

Max Thornton – (antagonist) head of a medical university, who dislikes and envies Stuart. He is authoritarian, pompous and rigid when it comes to rules and regulations.

Mike Scarpelli – (Antagonist) (39) – a co-worker of Stuart’s who is gunning for Stuart’s job. He’s an opportunist, but not as smart or hard-working as Stuart.

Connected Circle of Characters: – Marian, Stuart’s ex and her new husband, his neighbor Frank, and Hank.

The staff at Serendipity Retirement Village – Beatrice (antagonist); Aretha, head nurse; Marta, physiotherapist and other residents: Bradrick, Iman and Susan.

Environment Circle: Stuart’s other co-workers: Benjamin Barley, president; Abigail Greenfield, marine biologist, Mark and Shannon, animal trainers.

    David’s Three Circles of Characters

What I learned from this assignment is the importance of centering each episode around the main characters- ‘keep the main thing the main thing.’ The level beneath this is interacting, supporting characters, and all the others will ramble in and out of the main characters’ lives.

    ASSIGNMENT 1:

    A. MAIN CHARACTER CIRCLE: Archie, Betty, Veronica

    B. CONNECTED CIRCLE: Chuck, Cheryl, Ms. Gundy, Betty’s mom, Kevin, Veronica’s mom, Archie’s dad

    C. ENVIORNMENT CIRCLE: Weatherby, football coach, Pop, other students and teachers

    ASSIGNMENT 2:

    A. Main Characters Circle: Emily, Lindsay, Steve, Dean Andrews, Anna

    B. Connected Circle: Emily’s friends, Emily’s boss, Madison, Christopher, frat guy, Zena, Giana

    C. Environment Circle: other sorority girls, other frat guys, Doris the receptionist, Emily’s co-workers, Robin, real estate agent, registrar

EMILY (39), is a timid, middle-secretary who never finished college. She’s cute, smart, and sweet… if only someone could convince her.

LINDSAY (18) is Emily’s daughter, an artsy rebel who attends an out of state college- mostly to get away from her cloying mother.

STEVE (40) is Emily’s husband, a charming, highly intelligent professor with a wandering eye.

DEAN ANDREWS- sorry, DR. ANDREWS (60s) is the tweed-wearing, pompous dean of the college where Steve teaches. He believes in education above God Herself.

ANNA (18) is an insecure, super smart student whose idea of a social life is Netflix & chill… by herself.

What I learned doing this assignment is to really nut out who are the important characters. Even writing a one sentence line (which I went over), made me hone in on the two leads and think about their internal struggles, not just the external.

    Assignment 1:

    The Handmaid’s Tale

A: June, the commander and his wife, Ofglen

B: Aunt Lydia, the small circle of handmaids, Nick

C: The guards, the aunts, the Marthas.

    Assignment 2:

    My show:

    A: Zoe , Nadine

B: , Alexander, James, Jordy, Claudia, Leo

C: the media, the nursing home staff, the friends, police

Zoe – late forties, two children, doesn’t work, married to a lawyer who took over her father’s firm. She is deeply insecure, afraid and feels trapped in an unhappy and controlling marriage. Tries to keep up appearances for their mutual friends and children. Every now and then erupts into a fit of rage from bottling everything up.

Nay – early forties – is a carer at a nursing home. She appears to be humble, hard working and will always give to others before herself. But she is far stronger and more cunning than meets the eye. She struggles with wanting to live by her Aunt’s motto of being kind no matter what with her desire to seek revenge on those who took her baby and killed her Aunt.

      Lesson 2

What I learned doing this assignment is that it is important to understand where the characters fit in the story and assign them to a circle. That circle will determine how much time they spend on the page and how they interact with the main characters. Doing this now will save time when it comes to designing the show.

      THE VAULT

      A. Main Characters Circle:

Sharra Lane(24) Fresh-faced, optimistic, genuine. She’s a low-maintenance kind of girl, unaware of her own beauty. The recruit.

Lazarus Maitland (45) British, aristocratic-type oozing sophistication and power. He’s the head of the agency.

Tanner Holmes(33) Cocky, impulsive, and easy on the eyes. A guy you want on your side. He’s the Vault Trainer and an all-around good guy. The protector of the female sex.

Faolan(30) Scotman, darkly handsome, a keen intelligence, and honorable to a fault. A former agent with a gripe against Lazarus.

      B. Connected Circle: Cam, Ailbe, Grimm Hannay, Max, Katherine Hyde, Tatiana Ivonovic, Araylai, Antonio Rossi, Zoe Fox, Viktor, J.D Dash, Greyson Lane

      C. Environment Circle: Vault agents, business people, receptionist, Accountant boss and staff, butler, housekeeper, mugger, medical staff, movers, taxi driver

    Janeen’s Three Circles of Characters

What I learned doing this assignment is that characters naturally fall into circles, but having a notion how they will be used in the story is necessary to properly place them. Having once placed them in one of the three circles, it will naturally follow that they will be given concomitant roles in the story.

    Assignment 1:

    Big Little Lies

Main Characters Circle: Madeline, Celeste, Jane <div>

Connected Circle: Ed, Chloe and Abby (Madeline’s fam), Perry (Celeste’s husband), Ziggy (Jane’s son), Renata (primary enemy), Nathan & Bonnie (Madeline’s Ex and his wife)

Environment Circle: Joseph (play director), Annabelle & Perry (Renata’s daughter and husband), Principle, Teacher, Josh and Max (Celeste’s twins), various witnesses, Skye (Bonnie’s daughter), coffee shop waiter

    Assignment 2:

Three Circles of Characters for Plessis – a Drama set in an upper midWest farm town, population: 1000. </div><div>

    1. Main Characters Circle: (Since I’m not sure of may characters’ primary traits yet, I’m simply giving their circumstances here.)

    A. Cara is a mid-level computer programmer, a little flaky and in over her head when she inherits her best friend’s family and the $60M family farm (the friend’s young twins’ legacy). </div><div>

    B. Mindy – dead friend who grew up with Cara in Chicago and married an Iowa farmer named Mike and went through Silva and NMT training with Cara and used ESP-like techniques to manage her life

    C. Randy – Widower and father of the dead farmer (Mike) who recently discovered he has early onset dementia and is trying to ensure Cara can save his family legacy for the twins and live as much as he can while he’s still lucid.

    D. Jim – Neighbor and nemesis who was Mike’s best friend who wants to step into Mike’s shoes where the family is concerned and believe’s Cara led Mindy into her ESP-like ways and is the cause of all of the family’s troubles.

    2. Connected Circle: Cara’s Roommate from LA, Boy/Girl Twins of Mindy and Mike’s that Cara inherits; Jim’s wife and his mother; Mike’s 2 brothers from Alaska; Guru whose classes Mindy and Cara slipped off to in Dallas; Head dairy hand

    3. Environmental Characters: Twins’ friends, grocery store clerk, hardware store clerk, seed corn guy, Jim’s kids, Alaska brothers’ families, twins’ teacher, minister, elevator guy, veterinary, Cara’s parents from Chicago, Mindy’s parents from Chicago

What I learned doing this assignment is the value of thinking of the characters in groups, so as to ensure the protagonist remains front and centre but is surrounded by other engaging characters.

Assignment 1: Supernatural Character Circles (Based on Episodes 1 and 2)

    A. Main Characters Circle:

    Dean

    Sam

    Dean and Sam’s Dad

The antagonists: The White Woman and the Wendigo

    B. Connected Circle:

    Dean and Sam’s Mum

    Sam’s girlfriend (Jessica)

The White Woman’s victim (the young man)

    The victim’s girlfriend and friend

The White Woman’s husband and children

The cops who arrest and question Dean

    Haylie and her brothers

    The bear hunter

    C. Environment Circle:

    The hotel receptionist

The firefighters and paramedics who respond after the various attacks

    Sam’s college friend

The witness to the Wendigo attack 66 years ago

    Assignment 2:

Rob’s Three Circles of Character for “MIRAGE”

    A. Main Characters’ Circle

David, an ancient spirit, hundreds, perhaps thousands of years old who has various super powers and abilities. His face cannot be captured on camera, appearing only as a smoky haze, earning him the public moniker “The Mirage”.

Julia Lockhart, a young up-and-coming archaeologist with a mysterious connection to David and his unknown past. Julia urges David to use his powers to fight evil and to seek out his true identity.

Brendan White, a police detective with a prosthetic arm – earthy, no-nonsense, anti-woo-woo who is hunting David and trying to expose him as a fraud. In spite of his scepticism about the supernatural, Detective White has his own intuitive “sixth sense” which he has long used to solve crimes.

Madeleine, the old lady whom David befriended while she was a young girl. She has been David’s live-in companion ever since, a mentor figure of sorts despite being much younger than him.

Vincent Chamberlain, Julia’s boss and a more senior archaeologist who also has knowledge of both the demons at play in the world and of David as a result of a mysterious book that he has uncovered. Vincent is the antagonist hoping to discover and steal the secret to David’s immortality.

    B. Connected Circle

Jonas Brooks, an unscrupulous, weasely journalist always on the lookout for a good story. David’s activities in crime-fighting and demon-hunting offer plenty of material for him.

Tom and William, the cops who answer to Brendan White but who are nervous about their boss’s meddling in supernatural affairs that he can’t understand and doesn’t take seriously. They fear he’s in for a rude shock when he finds out what is really at play in David’s world.

The demons who serve Vincent and do his bidding by attacking David and generally wreaking havoc on the city.

    C. Environment Circle

    Other cops, other demons.

Bystanders to demonic crimes and plots and David’s attempts to foil their plans.

    Bingeworthy TV – Lesson Three

What I learned doing this assignment: Is to keep trying to make the characters unique and different, particularly the protagonist and leads. It is a good thing to keep in mind since this show has a fairly large cast. Off Your Rocker is also a dramedy and despite the seriousness of the goals and journey, there is a strong sense of crazy.

My Example TV Show is: Big Little Lies. (I picked this one, only because I saw it on HBO Crave that I subscribe to and it was on your list. I don’t have a subscription to Netflix. Normally, I wouldn’t like a show like this, but it’s presented well, despite it’s steeped in gossip.)

I state this point, because they have done a great job with making interesting characters.

The main character is Madeline, (portrayed by Reece Witherspoon) she is the protagonist. She only works 20 hours a week, because she wants to raise her children well, and make other working women jealous or have a one-up on her mommy skills. She is a drama teacher at the local high school and is very expressive of her feelings and speaking her mind. She has a daughter about 7 years old, and a teenager from a previous marriage named Abigail. Abigail has decided to go live with her father, because she believes her mother pushes her too much. Abigail also doesn’t like the tension between her mother and biological father. Madelaine is also jealous that her first husband remarried a younger, beautiful women and resents the fact that her daughter likes her, as well.

Her best friend is Celeste, a former lawyer, who gave up her career to move to Monterray, for his career and to raise her twin sons, who are about 7 years old. She is very unfulfilled, because she is a great lawyer. Her husband has serious self-esteem and insecurity issues which causes fights all the time. Behind the scenes, they have a very-high charged emotional relationships that start with controlling violence and then they end up having wild, almost violent sex. Celeste and her husband seek out a counsellor in this show to help solve their marital issues. Her husband says that he is afraid of losing her because she is so beautiful. By the end of the episode, he tells her he wants her to have another baby, a little girl this time, basically to keep her barefoot and pregnant at home. Celeste’s frustration and a part of his problem is that he also travels a lot on his job and he is gone a lot of the time.

The third character in the series is Jane. She is new to town and has a son Ziggy. She is a single mom, and they create her past as being very mysterious, because she didn’t really know the father. It appears that she was on a date with him and he raped her, which is how Ziggy was conceived. By the flashback sequences it appears and her anxiety attacks, it appears she may be hiding from him and she fears for her life. (She may have shot him, we don’t know, which ads mystery to this show.) The fact that Ziggy also doesn’t know much about his father causes him some embarrassment and shame, at times.

Renatta portrayed by Laura Dern, is a high-end business woman. She and her husband are affluent, and they have a daughter, Anabella in the same class as the other women. She is over protective of her and wants to give her the best all the time. She is a somewhat reserved child, so now Renatta wants to send her to therapy.

Madeline and Renatta seem to compete with one another. The main rift began in the first episode when Jane kind of rescued Madeline and they instantly bonded. Then Anabella said the first day of class that Ziggy choked her. Renatta wanted an apology, but Ziggy said he didn’t do it. He later apologized, but it appears he really may have been trying to kiss Anabella and she took it the wrong way. We don’t know, and no one really saw it happen. Madeline automatically took Jane and Ziggy’s side and said Renatta was over-blowing it and resents the fact that she seems to run the town. Renatta is also in this episode trying to get Madeline’s play banned from school.

The show varies from couple to couple and dilemma to dilemma very quickly, which keeps the audience on their toes.

But all of the characters are contrasting and interesting in their own ways and we see into their personal lives.

    Assignment # 2

Stuart, a marine biologist and scientist has an accident and later discovers that he in addition to fracturing his spine has M.S. He sets out to find a cure as he says many species of marine life don’t get it. When he comes home from the hospital, he also discovers his wife is having an affair with his next-door neighbour. So, they sell the home, and Stuart on his doctor’s advice moves into a retirement village to get the proper care and rehab on a daily basis.

A: Stuart is the protagonist, he is smart, adventuresome with an inventive spirit.

B: His outer journey is to find a cure for M.S as he is a scientist. His inner journey is to learn how to relate to people better, especially the elderly who he commonly refers to as “old farts,” respectfully, of course.

C: Intrigue – Secret Beneath the Surface: Stuart is a fish out of water. He is only 48 and has to learn to like and live with seniors. Truth be told, Stuart likes finds marine life more fascinating than most people. He is also afraid that he wasn’t a good husband and father since he spends so much time concentrating on research and work. His inner goal is to marry one day.

D: Moral Issue: What moral boundaries are they crossing: He has an affair with the psychologist at the home.

E: Unpredictable: The symptoms of Stuart’s disease includes changes in his personality, mood swings, depression, forgetfulness, etc.

    F. Empathetic: Why do we care? He is an important man experiencing a debilitating disease that effects millions of people and he’s trying to find a cure. He’s also been dumped by his wife, but still has to accept what’s happened in order to stay in the family. He also is adjusting to a new family and way of life living at the home, which is in stark contrast to his professional world. Many things that he loved to do will have to be set postponed or given up entirely, so we have to have sympathy for him.

    2. Benjamin Barley, his boss, supports him on his journey. He makes allowances for his disability and becomes a closer friend. He’s a bit of an eccentric.

Unique Purpose: He, like Stuart, is looking to protect the planet and marine life and all its species and eco-systems from climate change.

C: Intrigue What is secret beneath the surface: He’s more of a businessman, marketing Aqua World and likes to be in the limelight.

D: Moral issue: There is always a moral issue when you keep whales and dolphins in captivity and to be put on display.

    E. Unpredictable: It depends who flashes the money when one is president of running an expensive business.

F: Why do we care? He can help Stuart reach his goal. Generally, he is also supportive and means well.

A: Boris – He becomes one of Stuart’s best friends at the home. He’s about 69 and closer in age to him than the rest.

B: Boris is a Russian immigrant. He’s well educated. He supports Stuart and helps him adjust. He has also had a tragic life and is in a wheelchair.

C; Intrigue: Boris is a former KGB agent who fled Russia.

D: Boris is hoping to sneak his wife into the country.

E: Unpredictable: Boris has a lot of willpower and courage, so he can do anything he has to. We also wonder when his past will catch up with him.

F: Empathetic: Why do we care? Boris is likeable and also suffered a tragic life.

    Philomena and Paul

A: Role in the Show: They live in the next apartment to Stuart. They are also younger crazy partiers.

B: Unique Purpose: Philomena is trans-gender and Paul is her gay hippie husband. So we learn more about them, but she also has a very laid-back way of life that helps Stuart during trying times.

C: Intrigue: Secret: She pretends that her parents, who don’t accept the way she is, doesn’t bother her, but it does.

D: Moral Issue: She doesn’t believe there is one, but certain sectors of society can be judgemental.

E: Unpredictable: Philomena and Paul are spontaneous people who live in the moment. She used to be a drag queen performer so she can “act out” at any time. She’s a real firecracker.

F: Empathetic – Why do we care? Stuart reminds her of another friend, another drag queen performer she once knew. She senses Stuart accepts her for who she is and his kindness. She is sympathetic to his wife dumping him and wants to help.

All of the seniors in the home are particularly unique and contrast each other. The retirement home is a microcosm of the world.

Subject Line: Tasha’s Three Circles of Characters
