Tracy El Pueblo Pilot as Inciting Incident
What I learned doing this assignment is that I have a challenging task to condense each character’s story into 10 minute segments. If I can’t make this work, then I can take a less constrictive approach as LOST did — which was the show I chose to analyze. Each character’s story can ebb and flow suing their model. I’ll see how this goes for awhile because I wanted to see each character in every show.
Antonia
Intriguing Concept: Antonia wants to have choice who she’ll marry — by resisting she’s making herself less desirable to the moneyed older men seeking a docile teenage wife
Act 1: Woman shorn of hair made to stand in front of church as example of sex out of wedlock though she is a widow; women told must remain “Christ’s bride” for entire life
Midpoint: Grandma gives younger cousin (age 15) Antonia’s older
suitor she rejected
Lock In: Antonia sent to aunt’s house as nanny when uncle dies
Lucas
Intriguing Concept: A student who intends to work in government, Lucas supports killing insurgents, keeping power with the aristocrats who look down on his own class
Act 1: Lucas attends trial of insurgents; argues for loyalist
position in university class
Midpoint: At dance class, Lucas approached to join military and
spy on friends

Lock In: Father commits suicide – Lucas sent home
Father Diego
Intriguing Concept: Newly-ordained Father Diego plans to serve in his family’s parish while supporting the peasant revolution as other priests have done, though they were shot for it
Act 1: After his ordination, Father Diego visits insurgent
leaders in jail, alarming his dad
Midpoint: Diego’s dad meets with bishop behind closed doors to
set up huge bequest

Lock In: At home, Diego uncovers dad’s slave trade — dad tells
Diego he must leave homeJoseph
Intriguing Concept: Joseph is done with the miseries of going to sea, ready to settle down with his sweetheart and build ships in dry dock.
Act 1: Boston
shipyard — offered position on whaler, but it will be two years to find new
source of whale oil. Joseph rejects the entire plan

Midpoint: Drinking at the pub is the last thing Joseph
remembersLock In: The creaky whaler has Boston in its rearview when Joseph wakes
up, chained to the masthead. They head to sperm whale seas in the south
PacificThomas
Intriguing Concept: Thomas is getting as far from the United States as possible
Act 1: Revelry in Buenos Aires
celebrating first anniversary of Independence
from Spain!
Two huge warships will sail in opposite directions around the globe
carrying their flag, destroying all things Spanish. Every sailor gets a
portion of the plunder. The locals won’t sail for Captain Bouchard. Thomas
chooses Bouchard heading east towards Africa,
the homeland of this fugitive slave. He intends to stay there.
Midpoint: A fight breaks out among the new deckhands before
they’ve set sail; Captain Bouchard shoots two sailors dead and whips the
others.Lock In: The ship weighs anchor — what kind of man will Thomas
serve under for a year? If he could swim, he’d jump into the harbor now
and join the other ship heading west into the Pacific -
Janeen’s Amazing Inciting Incident
What I learned doing this assignment is that the opening scene I have imagined thus far is really my midpoint.
Intriguing Concept: An LA-based mind control practitioner inherits her best friend’s $60M farm and her twins. She finds that farming is an asset rich, cash poor big business, not profitable large scale gardening. To preserve the twins’ farm legacy, she must conquer the complex world of modern farming before her mentor, the family matriarch, becomes incapacitated by her Alzheimer’s.
Act 1: Cara is presented as an intentional medicine and mind control professional in LA whose biological clock is forcing her to date while in her dreams, she is always with her soulmate, Mike Campion. Randi Campion has just received the news that she has Alzheimer’s and has confided in daughter-in-law Mindy and sworn her to secrecy. Mike has his suspicions that Jim had something to do with his wife Molly’s death six months before and when Mindy finds that Molly’s suicide note typed on her computer is not at all in Molly’s writing style, they decide they will need to go to the police, but will wait until after their holidays in Chicago where they will see Cara. When Mindy gets premonitions of her death, she convinces Mike to leave Cara in charge of the farm and their twins if something happens to them. They get her consent in Chicago at Christmas
Midpoint: Mike and Mindy return to the farm because Cara has a New Year’s Eve date in LA and must leave early. They dress up and go out for the evening. Not far from their house, they come over the hill above the railroad tracks and there is a train crossing in front of them. The brakes don’t work and they are forced to plow into the train at full speed, realizing this is the same way Molly died.
Lock In: The funeral takes place and Cara meets charismatic Jim and his sons, Hunter and Gabe, who stop by after the funeral to say they’d like to farm the land until the twins are of age. Randi gives a hard no, that Cara wants to farm and be there for her friend Mindy as Mike and Mindy’s will states. Cara agrees, but she is grieving as much for Mike as for Mindy and wonders if her wishes for her own man were somehow put into motion subconsciously by her powers, resulting in Mike and Mindy’s deaths.

Jack’s Amazing Inciting Incident
What I learned from this assignment is to plan ahead for the pilot to be binge worthy by structuring it as the seasonal inciting incident.
Intriguing Concept: Parents who had children with surrogate mothers discover they have been raising the wrong children because the mothers’ eggs were switched. One of the women handles some of the royal family’s money and her account is hacked with a ransom of obtaining the queen’s skin for cloning.
Act 1: Two professional women of opposite pedigree meet, become lovers and decide to freeze their eggs.
Midpoint: Gene editing, embryo enhancement and cloning of humans are actually happening today and Professor Matthews is in the middle of it all. Victoria’s fund is hacked, but the ransom is not specified yet.
Lock In: The professor of the lab where the eggs are frozen who has been excommunicated from his English Druid community wants to steal Victoria’s eggs to create a child who will allow him to return to former Druid glory in England. Victoria must obtain the skin of the Queen of England before she can get her computer working again and her funds restored. She determines the reason for this is that someone wants to clone the queen

Jean’s Amazing Inciting Incident
What I learned doing this assignment is my documents are truly living documents. To make the pilot intriguing, I’ve had to step up my game and add more distress to make the midpoint a no going back situation. Also, I am bringing a part of episode 2 forward to make the ending a powerful twist.
Intriguing Concept: A moralistic time-travel recruit learns to fix the past for the betterment of the future when she discovers she’s the catalyst to a paradox that will bring down the secret agency and she must bend her morals or die to save not only herself and the Vault, but also the world.
Act 1: Sharra gets looked over for a promotion, again. She’s bored and longs for adventure. She works to prove her competence and in doing so discovers her boss is embezzling millions. Tanner purposefully interferes in her life as part of the Vault Agency recruitment process. There are things about him and the agency that she finds odd.
Midpoint: Sharra realizes she’s no longer safe and must flee NYC. Sharra’s assailant is a rogue Vault agent, sending Tanner back in time to stop him. But it fails.
Lock-In: Accused of murder and running from an unknown assailant, Sharra, with the promise of information about her parents’ death, vanishes with Lazarus and reappears in a future otherworldly place. It’s the adventure she’s been looking for, and she’s ready for it.

Rob’s Amazing Inciting Incident
What I learned doing this assignment is the significance of the midpoint as a pivot point in the structure of the pilot.
1. The Inciting Incident: Madeleine is kidnapped by demons and the Mirage needs to find and rescue her.
2. Give us the main beats of that Inciting Incident:
Intriguing Concept: An ancient ghost and a brilliant young archaeologist team up to protect the world from demons seeking to bring about the apocalypse.
Act 1: Julia is an archaeologist whose career is on the line after a failed archaeological dig. Her boss is unhappy and some weird guy is stalking her.
Midpoint: The Mirage rescues Julia from a demon attack
Lock In: When Madeleine is kidnapped and Julia appears to hold the key to her rescue, the Mirage must team up with someone who has brought the demons to his doorstep.

R. Reid Jr.’s Amazing Inciting Incident
(Mod 3 homework 2)
What I learned from this assignment is not everything will be written from a-z, sometimes we have to start at the MIDPOINT and work ourselves backward to this main THRUST of this pilot.
1. What is the “Inciting Incident” of your series that this pilot needs to deliver powerfully?
The people who rob a bank are caught and it looks like an open and shut case only the people that robbed the bank don’t know how or why they did anything they are caught for and the police can’t link them for the crime since they left behind all the money and valuables and stole bank pens and name plates from the bank.
2. Give us the main beats of that Inciting Incident:
A sophisticated bank heists by a sophisticated group of people who look like they are living a high lifestyle. They spend more then they afford and use a bank robbery to cover up the money they need, only they discover someone has been controlling them.
Intriguing Concept:
Can strangers be controlled to do crimes and not have knowledge of it? Who would control people to do such things?
Act 1:
Robbers living a high lifestyle that is the best of the best throwing money left, right and center: the best clothes, the best restaurants and even luxury car rentals. When money starts running out one person has an idea of robbing a bank.
Midpoint: after the robbery the gang looks like they are going to get away with it until more sophisticated agents of a special branch bust them with their loot all locked up in special bags and have the footage to prove it.
Lock In: It is not until the robbers are handcuffed and the bags are confiscated and the sophisticated bunch are brought away they receive a call from the bank the lead investigator thinks it is the bank wanting to thank them. Then their man on the ground calls the person cell of the lead investigator. He asks them to stop and check the bags. The bags stolen are full of stationary and newspapers. There is no cash from the bank, no precious metals were taken or bank notes. It was an empty robbery. When questioned, the chief robber answers, who are you and why am I here? The robbers all answer the same, they are completely out of sorts, like they had a mental breakdown than being in any robbery.

Module 4, lesson 2
What I learnt from this assignment is, while I feel I have one storyline that fits into this equation I’m not sure my other storyline for my other protagonist does and its something I need to re-look at.
Intriguing Concept:
Young movie star, Elizabeth, is being celebrated at a huge studio party, yet she is packing a secret suitcase and is frightened.Act 1:
Head of the studio is celebrating his latest academy award nominated film. He hosts a big party for all those involved.Midpoint:
Elizabeth confides in her agent that she is afraid, she wants out and a reporter has been asking her questions. When she goes back to her house a mysterious car turns up with three sinister looking men. Elizabeth runs off.Lock In:
Elizabeth is found dead and the reporter investigating her secret is also killed.
