Jack’s BIG M.I.S.
What I learned from this assignment is that by thinking about the big mystery, intrigue and suspense of the show, the outline becomes easier.
1. CONCEIVED
Logline: Two professional women from diverse backgrounds, who together had their eggs frozen because they were too busy to have children, learn that the eggs were stolen and children have been born and are being raised in China.
Unwitting but Resourceful Heroes:
Kayla, an American environmental lawyer, and Katherine, an English fund
manager who manages some of the royal wealth <div>Dangerous Villain: Lung Ho, a
Chinese Hacker who has cloned himself and wants his clones to mate the
clones of wealthy and powerful women in a nefarious 50 year plan.<div>

protagonists.Life and death situations: In
discovering Lung Ho’s plan, the protagonists run afoul of the Chinese
Communist Party and must defeat those attempting to kill them, as well as
rescue their children whom they have never met. This story is thrilling
because? The villain’s outrageous plan to rule China and the world through
cloning is well underway when the protagonists find out about it. As the
mystery of how the children were born, who their fathers are and where they
live unfolds, intrigue continues when the protagonists hatch their own
plan to find their children and expose the villain, resulting in many
suspenseful escapes and discoveries.Big Mystery: How and why were the frozen eggs stolen and who is responsible.
Big Intrigue: Who are the fathers of the children born, where are the children and what can we do about this?
Big Suspense: When the antagonists plan is revealed, the protagonists are targeted for death, as their bodies are no longer required.
2. CASTING CALL
Logline: A young woman leaves her home in Iowa for fame and stardom in Los Angeles, but quickly finds herself the target of a nefarious sex trafficking organization.

who use bogus casting call to find women. This story is thrilling

the intrigue of the L.A. casting scene and the suspense of a determined
sister desperately in search of her sister.Big Mystery: Where is Sandi?

Big Suspense: Lyla’s life is threatened from multiple angles as she attempts to take down an international sex trafficking ring.

Michelle Donnelly’s Big M.I.S.
What I learned doing this assignment: I learned that explicitly stating the mystery, intrigue, and suspense helped to frame the story.
Logline:
A cardiologist must uncover who is murdering her colleagues before either she herself is murdered or the police wrongly accuse her of their murders.
What are the conventions of my story –
Unwitting and Resourceful Hero: Griffin, a cardiologist, who realizes she must work to find the killer who is murdering her colleagues before she herself is murdered or before detectives arrest her for their deaths. She begins to suspect the murderer is one of her heart transplant patients.

This story is thrilling because? Because the murders had long been unsolved for the community and the fact that the evil is living on through another person.
The Big M.I.S.

Big Intrigue: That a heart was transplanted into a patient from a man who had never been uncovered as a serial killer and the effects of cellular memory are now altering the personality of the heart transplant recipient.

Eric Humble’s Big M.I.S.
What I learned doing this assignment is: that by simplifying the process of writing a thriller into the big components, I can more easily create a strong foundation for the plot. I’ve been struggling with plotting and outlining for as long as I have been writing – particularly with thrillers, which is my favorite genre. I tend to get too bogged down in the complexities and contrivances that when I finally unravel everything, it’s after months and months of outlining, very little writing of the actual script, and at that point I’m almost always disappointed by what I’ve written in as the foundation of the story. This tendency to get lost in the plot machinations has made me wary and disempowered whenever I get a thriller idea that excites me – it feels like I’m already defeated before I even start. So this process to break it down into the Big M.I.S. at the outset and work from there is very exciting to me. I can’t wait to see how we progress from here!
CONCEPT: A chef catering the G7 summit discovers someone is plotting to poison the President at dessert and has five courses to stop it from happening… using only the food he creates.
1. What are the conventions of your story?
Unwitting but Resourceful Hero: Raf, a chef cooking the most important meal of his career. Adept in sizing up people and zeroing in on their specific needs – and appetites.
Dangerous Villain: Leiber, a foreign agent undercover as a high-ranking Secret Service agent, whose mission is to assassinate the US President to sabotage the peace treaty being brokered.
High stakes: The President will be killed. Raf will be killed if he uncovers the plan. A major peace treaty that could affect the world hangs in the balance.
Life and death situations: Raf needs to figure out which of his cooks is the assassin and how he’s planning to poison dessert. Someone is trying to kill Raf. Raf will be blamed if the President is poisoned. The previous chef found out and was killed. Everything in the kitchen is a potential weapon.
This story is thrilling because? Raf knows something catastrophic is going to happen but has no way to warn anyone. He’s in mortal danger. If he fails, the world descends into war.
2. Tell us the Big M.I.S. of your story?
Big Mystery: Who is the assassin and how is planning to kill the President?
Big Intrigue: Leiber wants to poison the President in order to shift the balance of power to one of the lesser NATO countries when the peace talks fail.
Big Suspense: Will Leiber kill Raf? Will he kill the President?

Life and death situations: Esme is found dead, Margot’s home is ransacked and she’s attacked, but she survives.
This story is thrilling because? Margot knows who the killer is, but she doesn’t remember because the attack left her with amnesia, and she is sleeping with the enemy.
2. Tell us the Big M.I.S. of your story?
Big Mystery: Margot receives an explosive document from a whistleblower, but the document is not real and when Margot’s assistant, who was working to authenticate the document, dies, an apparent accident, the mystery becomes— What would be valuable enough to leak a fake document, kill Esme, and attack Margot? </div>
Big Intrigue: The underhanded plan of a ruthlessly ambitious Walt Milhouse to frame his boss Percy for the missing money and take over the company by killing Esme and Margot.
