Mod 4 lesson 2: write Act 1
Mary J. Andrews finished Act 1 First Draft
What I learned: outlining and pre-working each act makes actual writing much simpler than before and the speed writing path keeps everything just racing along. I did Act 1 in a day.<hr width=”100%” size=”3″ align=”center”>

Kim Finished Act 1 First Draft
What I learned from this assignment was to keep going, even knowing I might be making changes to make the personalities come out stronger.

Marcus Finished Act1 Draft 1
This excercise reinforced what I learned writing the Teaser – having a great outline makes the writing easy and quick. My only issue is that it came out a bit short. It’s really hard to tell from the outline how long the act is going to be. I suspect it means that I am missing something from my story.
I used the high speed writing techniques. I’ve always written something like that anyway, so it hasn’t been a difficult transition for me.

What I learned writing a compelling outline for your script is imperative to the process.

Phyllis’ Finished Act 1 First Draft
To echo several previous posts, I learned that my fully prepared outline makes it easy to go from description to scenes. I wrote my Act 1 in a day. It really flowed.

The outlining is still working!
While writing Act 1, I found a couple of scenes that were unnecessary in the moment and in the long run, so I omitted them. What’s in those scenes is already in earlier ones, but I didn’t recognize it until I was writing them.
