Satans job was to be the accuser and so he entrapped man to show they were unworthy of life. That’s when Satan could take the victims life to extend his own .this was unless he took an innocent man’s life than he would have to become the Devil hells prisoner.</div><div>

The Unforgettable Fire’s Terrifying Monster: The Killer

What I learned doing this assignment is that creating the monster/killer in a horror screenplay is not as simple as coming up with just a scary looking monster or horrific idea for a killer, but there are many layers that must be created to add depth to that character. The element of not knowing who the killer is until the end adds suspense, terror and mystery to the script. Their mythology is important as it adds a reason, and a rationalization in the killer’s mind, to the senseless killing of innocent people.

    1. Tell us what or who your monster is.

The monster in my script is a cold-blooded psychotic serial killer. It is a mystery who it is until the end, and the audience is left guessing: Is it a seeker (client), a guide (a counselor), or a total stranger?

    2. Give us a few sentences for each of the following for your monster:

Their Terror: The terror is created gradually as at first the victims appear to have committed suicide, however, as it becomes apparent that they are being murdered one by one, nobody knows who the killer is.<div>

Their Mystery: The mystery is in not knowing who the killer is until the end. The victims are killed at random and at first appear to be taking their own lives. Once it becomes apparent that they are being murdered, the question is: Who is killing them?

Their Fear-Provoking Appearance: The killer will be dressed up and wearing a mask each time he kills to hide his appearance.

Their Rules: The killer’s rules are that he has no rules aside from wanting to put people out of their misery and take their lives.

Their Mythology: The mythology of the killer is that his brother committed suicide at a young age and he has come to accept suicide as the final solution to all of life’s problems. Working in a Therapeutic Community Residence with suicide survivors, he sees the seekers (clients) as failures and wants to help them to complete their failed task, by helping them to commit suicide (killing them).

Anna Harper Day 2 Horror High Concept

    MY STORY

    THE LONG DARK

    written by Anna Harper

    CONCEPT

An isolated community in the Yukon bush is terrorized by a series of Totem animals appearing in dreams, then reality, and blood and gore attacks. A key totem animal is the Sasquatch, a shape shifter. Evil persons and one random person in the community are targets.

    TERRORIZE THE CHARACTERS

A pattern is established which creates anxiety in the whole community. Sasquatch appears to a random person, it’s usually a warning.

Evil doers are visited in dreams by terrifying totem animal encounters. after they have committed some atrocity. Finally, they are punished by an encounter in real life with the animal.

    ISOLATION

The story is set in a community that is always isolated in the center of a 300k area of dense bush and lakes. In the Yukon winter (the long dark) it is only accessible by small planes. Ski doos can barely go that far on a tank of gas, providing they don’t run into trouble, freezing, breakdowns, injuries, and monsters.

    DEATH

There are four groups of death victims,

evil people, a random (not evil) person, a totem animal, and victims of crime in the community.

    MONSTERS/VILLANS

There are multiple villains (people in the community.) And there are multiple totem animals/ who can appear monstrous. The lead monster is the Sasquatch.

At this point, I am selecting the following additional totem animals as I have some experience with them. I lived in the Yukon. Wolf, Bear, Cougar, Coyote, and Frog.

    HIGH TENSION

Tension starts in the first scene with the appearance of Sasquatch to a newly arrived art instructor who has come to work with the native women, She has just landed,, it’s the edge of fall/winter. Her job is to help the native women develop their crafts into an income stream. At least in the beginning, until she learns their stories then things change.

The fear escalates through the community as appearances of Totem animals become more frequent, followed by some horrific event in the community. Everyone is wondering if they will be next, even the innocents.

    DEPARTURE FROM REALITY

The departure from reality for the viewer is the unique difficult environment. and the experience of the horrific attacks firstly in reported terrifying dreams, where the victims wake up with real blood on their bodies. And secondly, their minds are blown when the dreamers are attacked in real life.

    MORAL STATEMENT

The spiritual constructs of this community make all vulnerable to the reality of spirit animals coming to life, giving warnings, and lessons.

Totem animals appear when they are needed. In the end, some of the residents have the epiphany that the monster is within, and they must take responsibility for their own behavior to avoid terrifying encounters with animal teachers.

The monsters and totem animals are saviors as they prevent the implosion and self-destruction of the isolated dysfunctional community.

For the evil doers, escape from certain and terrible death is unavoidable.

What I learned: Taking the time to “flesh out” the monster before beginning to craft a horror story is crucial. I had been doing just that in my head over the past few days and this exercise made me slow down and think more deeply about the monster itself, causing different sequences and possibilities to pop into my head while doing this assignment that I might never have imagined otherwise. This experience will help keep the storyline open as we presumably continue building from what seems like the ground up with the next assignments.

    My Monster

Rage monsters: bipedal werewolf-human hybrids that transform slowly (over a period of days or weeks), while they are sleeping at night—a painful process that causes them to have traumatic nightmares—retaining their monstrous physical features and characteristics during the day. This produces a lot of wrathful creatures in various stages of transformation over the course of the film, with the majority retaining mostly human traits until the end, a few exhibiting mostly werewolf traits early on, with several in a liminal stage of transformation as the film progresses.

    Five Parts of the Monster

Terror: These rage monsters become increasingly aggressive throughout their transformation, first in more human ways (becoming more emotionally reactive, as well as more verbally and physically aggressive towards others), and then in more animal-like ways until they cross the threshold to being mostly werewolf, at which point they become vicious predators prone to hunt anything and anyone they dislike for any reason at any time. When one of these creatures singles out a victim (whether it’s human or animal or another hybrid creature like itself) it pursues it with a single-minded purpose, adeptly trapping its prey by isolating it from others who might be tempted to intervene, a hunting strategy that takes various forms in various natural settings and built environments, but that involves some sort of chase, often at night, when rage monsters are more active. They take pleasure in torturing their prey with their superhuman strength and rabid bursts of vitriol. Ultimately, they kill their victims by ripping their hearts out of their bodies with their long fangs and swallowing them whole, spewing blood everywhere in the process.

Mystery: How can these rage monsters—who are rapidly multiplying in numbers—be stopped before everyone turns into one? Especially when it’s almost impossible to know when someone has passed the threshold from being mostly human to mostly werewolf and it’s very difficult to kill rage monsters once the transformation is complete (i.e., bullets wound, but don’t kill them).

Fear Provoking Appearance: The transformation of people into rage monsters is accompanied by the acquisition of grotesque physical traits, which take place during sleep at night. While there is variation in the order of appearance and degree of grotesqueness, the first stages typically entail the exaggeration of people’s natural facial features, along with a darkening and narrowing of the eyes, more prominent eyebrows, the lengthening of canine teeth and a general scowl. In later stages, these characteristics become even more pronounced while furry hair and bigger muscles start to grow, which are especially noticeable on males. As they transform, their way of dressing themselves becomes increasingly bleak at the same time it’s slightly more revealing.

Rules: Once the transformation process from human to rage monster starts, the changes that take place at each stage remain (i.e., there’s no switching between human and rage monster forms and no reversal of the process). As the transformation process becomes more advanced and as more and more people transform into rage monsters, some start to group themselves into packs, having the effect of increasingly dividing up the population. However, there are lone wolf types as well that are particularly dangerous.

Mythology: The main water source of the small college town located in an isolated area of central Michigan where the film takes place has been recently switched, and chemicals contained in the new source that biochemically elevate already existing levels of aggression in humans have caused the isolated outbreak of rage monsters. People’s variable rates of exposure to the water, due to their geographical location, access to well water and consumption levels help explain why some people are more impacted than others. But while there will be several hints about this in the film, this origin story won’t be figured out by the survivors or revealed to viewers until the sequel!

    3. What I learned doing this assignment is what makes a movie monster and the thinking that should go into crafting your monster’s story.

    1. My monster is a mass murder; a man killing innocents and the corrupt.

    2. – The killer’s terror is he is indiscriminate in who he kills and who his victims are; he is truly evil. The superstitious in the story believe him to be some kind of a monster or a demon.

    – The killer is being pursued by a mysterious man, who he turns the tables and becomes a potentially deadly threat to that man, too.

    – The killer’s fear-provoking appearance is when he kills the driver of a tractor-trailer carrying migrants illegally across the border and then commandeers the vehicle and slaughters the cargo. Then, he drives across the desert killing more and more.

    – The killer uses blades or tools that cut or impale to kill, never a gun. Although, he does run over an outlaw biker with his semi-tractor trailer. (Since this is an exploitation film, it’s meant to be splatter film.)

    – The monster’s mythology is that this is a tale taken from the Book of Revelation, the killer is Lucifer and the mysterious man pursuing/doing battle with him is the Archangel Michael, both in human form, just before the End of Times.

Anna Harper’s lead terrifying monster DAY 2

The lead monster is a SASQUATCH its mythology is that it often appears as a warning OR to inform someone that they are in the right place at the right time.

Terror is huge has a blood-curdling cry and it is quasi-human. His smell announces his or her arrival. He appears and reappears in different locations in a moment of time. (shapshiters)

Their mystery is that it is both a great privilege to see one. few have had a Sasquatch encounter and terrifying at the same time.

The fear-provoking appearance is that it comes out of nowhere, gigantic, hairy a conundrum, is it human or animal, is it there to communicate or eat us?

Their rules are you had better pay attention to the meaning of my appearing or else! Something terrible is about to happen. Nightmares and appearances of other totem animals manifest into reality. Giant menacing versions, who will deliver a blood and gore message in sequence. This will cause all the community to manage their proclivities for damaging behaviors.

    BEATING HEARTS

Concept: A sweet old lady shape-shifter must feed her 9 cats. They want Beating Hearts; any beating heart will do. You have one – come by for tea and cookies any time.

Monster: Sweet old lady, a little stooped and not very strong. Smiling, agreeable, and makes everyone feel welcome.

Her terror: Must have a beating heart to feed her 9 cats. Can shape-shift into a very large strong person to kill by hand – rip open your ribcage, exposing your beating heart.

Her rules: Any beating heart will do. Innocent, unsuspecting is preferred. They should be alone and not attached to her in any way – to avoid suspicion.

She can shape-shift into a flying beast (eagle) and uses this medium to haul away the half-eaten bodies.

If you parked a vehicle near her house, she’ll have to move it, and then flies home.

Her mystery: 1. there’s no cat food in her house. No one seems to notice. 2. how did she come to have so many demanding cats?

Her mythology: ‘If I don’t feed the cats, they will eat me.’ Therefore, she is determined to keep them well fed. She loves each one of them; they’re actually very sweet kitties – they’re just hungry.

    Jeremy’s Terrifying Monster

What I learned doing this assignment is the story doesn’t have to be complicated.

    </div><div>

    1. Tell us what or who your monster is.

    </div>

During the Irish Famines in the 1840s the victims were buried in large pits. However some were were still alive and managed to claw their way out. With nowhere to go they remained in the old graveyard living in old crypts and tunneling underneath. Their only source of food was the dead and when the famine ended they discovered they had acquired a taste for human meat. There they remained until the graveyard fell into disuse and they had to extend their hunting grounds.

    2. Give us a few sentences for each of the following for your monster:

Their Terror: Cannibalism. The idea of being hunted down by packs in the dark by oneself.

Their Mystery: Are they human, where did they come from? Homeless victims? Belfast 70s Troubles?

Their Fear Provoking Appearance: Stunted, pale, clothed in rags, inbred

Their Rules: Never be taken alive.

Their Mythology: They are the Elect and were chosen to survive.

Rich’s Terrifying Monster or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Demon

What I learned doing this assignment is the necessity of a well thought out monster and its vital importance to the story. The monster’s methods and rules really drive the narrative. If the monster doesn’t “make sense” then the story probably won’t either. Also, for all intents and purposes, the monster is really more the hero of the horror story that the heroes are.

    1. Tell us what or who your monster is.

Drochchodladh Hamaa – The Nightmare Terror, The Soul Eater. A primeval demon who feeds on human psychic energy. Particularly terror.

    2. Give us a few sentences for each of the following for your monster:

    Their Terror:

The Demon has his minions kidnap his victims and physically attach them to their old mattress by piercing their bodies with the mattress springs pulled thorough and straightened, then terrorizes them to the point of death with horrific nightmares and horrific hallucinations/day mares. When they can’t take any more, he finally feasts upon the accumulated fear energy and then eats their hearts and brains.

    Their Mystery:

For the victims: What’s real and what’s not? When will this end? Will this ever end? What is this monster? Is anyone coming to save me? What’s going to happen to me? When is he going to kill me?

For the parents looking for the kidnapped victims: How can we find our child? Who has them? What are they doing to them? How can we save them? Are they even alive?

    Their Fear Provoking Appearance:

In his true form, the Drochchodladh Hamaa is not overly large. He has mottled black skin, six flame red eyes (two main eyes and four smaller surrounding eyes) and horns that grow like thorny, twisted tree limbs from his skull and down his neck and shoulders like a mane. His ears are large and bat-like, fleshy and maneuverable to catch and savor the screams of his victims. As a devouring demon, his maw is sharp and grasping with four longer fangs for holding and a dozen or so smaller ragged teeth for ripping and tearing. He has a lean, wiry build with four long, thin arms that end in sharply-clawed hands and two goat-like legs covered in matted black fur and ending in ragged hooves.

    Their Rules:

At his core, Drochchodladh is greedy and gluttonous. That’s his drive. He’s also a coward so he tries to avoid direct confrontation. While he’s technically immortal as long as he keeps feeding, he’s still a physical being so he can be wounded or killed. However he is demonically strong and fast which makes attacking him foolhardy at best. He prefers to horde his victims in the safety of his storage facility lair and has minions to do the mundane/dirty work. He can “blink” travel but it’s limited to line of sight. He can shadow walk anywhere. It’s his preferred means of attack and escape. He takes the mattress owner and holds them as long as possible to suck as much fear as he can get out of them. If the victim dies before the harvest, the feast is lost. He’s afraid of bright light due to being totally exposed by it and having no shadows to retreat into.

    Their Mythology:

Long before recorded history, Drochchodladh Hamaa clawed his way out of the primordial darkness. He has fed upon humans for eons, living in dark caves and hollows. He used to take them one at a time, picking off stragglers that wandered too close to his darkness. Holding them and terrifying them and feasting on their fear. It was simple to do when humans were still primitive but it provided meager succor. It grew harder as humans developed claws of their own; first of wood and bone and stone, then of steel. Not to mention fire. As humans evolved, he was forced to as well. For many years he starved and coveted, but he was patient. He watched and learned. One of the first things he learned was that humans could be easily corrupted. Why risk a confrontation while taking a victim when, for a small fee, you could have one delivered to you? He’s been building and perfecting his network ever since.
