What I learned doing this assignment is further enhancing key elements in my story such as the who the protagonist really is underneath her exterior and her goal, and further defining the role of the antagonist.

My protagonist, Tina, will play the hero. With a pattern of dysfunctional romantic relationships, she will look within herself to examine the dysfunction and explore how she can make a better change.

My antagonist, Barry, will play the predator – a charismatic and romantic love interest whose goal is to abuse and destroy Tina and her family.

The supporting characters are Tina’s best friends (Nicole and Sydney) who support and encourage Tina but in different ways. Nicole supports Tina’s current lifestyle yet Sydney encourages her transformation/arc. Tina’s mother is also a supporting character who looks out for her best interest.

Genre is a touching drama/family story.

Tina’s role is to show how a bitter/insecure woman can become enlightened and empowered. She’s an early 30s, single mother of two children.

Internal Journey: desperate for love, but from the wrong men which comes with consequences that not only affect her, but also her children

External Journey: Learning how to love/value herself and turn her weaknesses into strengths while also becoming a better mother in the process

Motivation: To be loved, to be healed

Wound: Abandoned by her father as a youth and at times neglected by her mother

Mission/Agenda: To protect herself and her kids from Barry

Secret: She has unresolved anger towards her mother which has a domino effect on her own parenting

What makes her special: She’s able to remove her mask and face suppressed emotions when it’s time to make a change, and learn that real love comes from within

Gerry Cousins – Character Profiles Part 1

NOTE: Mine is not a screenplay but a Play-Within-A-Play written for the stage. I took the class on those terms.

I have three leads: male SID (antagonist), and female, JENNA (protagonist), in main play, and female, MOLLY (protagonist), in sub play.

1..Every character in the play (no matter how large or small) has their own emotional

arc as well as internal/external journey. Each must be thought out meticulously.

    2. Protagonist: JENNA – Dreamer

Protagonist: MOLLY – Victim (sub play)

    3. Antagonist: SID – Either Predator or Change Agent ???

    4. Supporting characters: TODD – Antagonist: Villain (sub play)

SIMON – Antagonist: Change Agent (sub play)

RAND & GAVYN – Antagonist: Change Agents (sub play)

    5. Drama

    6. JENNA (Leading Lady): Late forties. Co-writer of CRIME STOPPERS. Married to

MARTY. Strikingly attractive, articulate, ambitious. Struggles with choices. Bored

with husband and playing at being in love with SID. Her wound is great

expectations of herself. She is special because while she is very serious, she is

brave enough to be foolish. STAR VEHICLE

SID (Leading Man) Early fifties. Co-writer of CRIME STOPPERS. Married and

divorced 3 times. Thinks of himself as a “professional” but is afraid of failing and/or

attempting something new, but when push comes to shove he allows the play they

are writing to totally affect his life.. Vane, frustrated with where he is in life—afraid

the world’s passing him by–a touch penurious. He is a charming bully and

tired womanizer with a secret crush of sorts on JENNA. STAR VEHICLE.

MOLLY (Leading Lady – sub play). Fiftyish. Slightly overweight aging beauty but

still sexy, aware, and sassy, looking for answers. She is her own woman, even in

an emotional crisis with hidden self-esteem and rejection issues at her core. Outwardly, she’s a likeable, ballsy broad. STAR VEHICLE

Robin Atwood’s Character Profiles Part 1

What I learned doing this assignment? I learned the importance of well-defined characters and how truly knowing them helps the story write itself.

    Ivy Wren — protagonist

Role in the story: Dreamer. Ivy is a young, innocent maiden. She is learning from her parents how to heal and cook with herbs. Ivy has no hope for a better life because people don’t change classes in medieval Europe. She desires more but doesn’t believe it is possible.

Age range and description: 15, beautiful, voluptuous, striking eyes

Internal journey: From a shy, innocent, unworldly young maiden who knows her place to an unshakeable woman who knows her own mind.

External journey: From a low class maiden healer to the king’s closest confidant and mother of his sons.

Motivation: A better life for herself and her family, to secure the lives of her sons.

Wound: When she is a young girl, her mother fills her head with stories of dreams coming true and happy endings. It is her father who dashes her dreams and presses upon her that her life will never be different. She will always be poor and without status.

Mission/Agenda: Ivy wants her relationship with Henry to grow and become so important to him that he cannot give her up no matter the circumstances in his life. She knows Henry will provide for her and their sons so long as she accepts what he has to offer them.

    Secret: She truly loves Henry.

What makes her special? Her complete loyalty to Henry regardless of his treatment of her and their sons.

    Henry Tudor — antagonist

Role in the story: Authority. Henry as King of England is expected to have legitimate heirs to the throne, to ensure the Tudor line continues beyond his life.

Age range and description: 17, athletic/physically fit, chivalrous, attractive, strawberry blonde

Internal journey: From being a momma’s boy who was spoiled growing up to a romantic, considerate, gentle and loving partner to an obsessed, suspicious tyrant.

External journey: From a young man who was reared and influenced mostly by women, his mother, sisters, ladies in waiting, nurses to becoming the King of England.

Motivation: In order to secure the Tudor Dynasty, he must have male heirs.

Wound: Henry was overindulged by his mother, which made him believe all of his wants and desires would be his, that there would be no obstacles. Yet he is unable to produce legitimate, living male heirs from his first two wives.

Mission/Agenda: To produce legitimate male heirs and to protect and provide for Ivy and their sons without his secret life becoming public.

Secret: The love of Henry’s life is Ivy. He cannot recognize her or acknowledge their sons as legitimate because of her lowly class status. She is his closest confidant.

What makes him special? He is King.

Supporting characters: William Wren, Hazel Wren, Charles Brandon

Minor roles: Henry VII, Henry VIII’s wives, Ivy and Henry’s sons Basil, Oweyn, Alfred, Frances I, Cardinal Wolsey

Background characters: nobles, courtiers, bards, town folk

    Genre – Drama

Carol Dougherty’s Character Profiles Part 1

What I learned: As I worked my way through this, I found myself occasionally tangled up in what was inner vs. outer and how so many of the choices with the questions are not definitive. The more precise I can be in pinning those things down, the better the final product will be (I hope!).

Role of Protagonist: The protagonist, Pen, will play the role of both runner and dreamer. Her outer life is that of the runner, the one who flees from any hint of emotional intimacy. Inside, she is still the dreamer, the one who longs for love and emotional intimacy and eventually takes action to embrace it in her life.

Role of Antagonist: The antagonist, Katie, is the embodiment of Pen’s worst fears – someone to whom Pen is powerfully drawn, against her better judgment. She challenges Pen’s cynicism and fear of letting anyone get close with her ardent openness and warmth.

    Supporting Characters:

    · Terry, Pen’s best friend and acting partner, who is also Katie’s friend

    · Sebastian, artistic director of the theatre and director of their production

    · Danni, Terri’s late sister and Pen’s first lover

    Minor Roles:

    · Jacky, has a history with Pen, Terry, and Sebastian

    · Sam, Pen’s current lover and owner of the farm where she and Terry live

    · Sarah, a woman from Pen’s late father’s past who befriends her

    Background Characters:

    · Acting company and crew

    · Theatre receptionist

    · Farm manager

Genre: This is a drama, with the love story between Pen and Katie at the heart of it. It is not a rom-com.

    Lead Character Profiles:

    · Pen – I’ve already mentioned her role is that of both runner and dreamer. She is 33, her body is disciplined by intense yoga, she is seen as beautiful though she has many faces in her stage work. In her internal journey she goes from isolating herself emotionally out of fear to finding the courage to connect with others. In her external journey Pen goes from limiting her work and relationships to falling in love with Katie, engaging with the acting company on a personal level, and loving herself enough to take risks in her work. Her motivation is to be accepted and loved for who she is, in her work and in her life. Her wound is Danni’s suicide fifteen years ago, for which Pen feels responsible. Her mission/agenda is to prove to Sebastian that she is the great actress he thinks she can be, and to prove to herself that she deserves Katie’s love. Her secret is that the night Danni killed herself, Danni invited Pen to run away with her and live together and was crushed when Pen didn’t say yes. Pen is special because she has a loving heart and an enormous talent, both severely restricted by Pen’s fears of opening up and letting others in.

    · Katie – I mentioned earlier that her role is that of what is termed the villain (though she is not at all a villain); i.e., she embodies Pen’s fears and challenges her constantly. Katie is in her late 20’s, a doctoral graduate student. She is attractive in a sunny, outdoors kind of way, and dresses in a business casual way (jeans or khakis with golf shirts or sweaters). In her internal journey she goes from ardent, uncertain, and naïve to confident and passionate. In her external journey she goes from adoring fan girl to compassionate and mature lover. Her motivation is to share her life with Pen. Her wound is the loss of her brother, who was the center of their parents’ lives, and who ran away after his high school graduation. Katie’s mission/agenda is to find the way to Pen’s heart. Her secret is that she found her brother online and reconnected with him. He broke her heart by begging her not to contact him again for fear their parents would find him. Katie is special because she exudes warmth and kindness in a world that is often unkind and cold. [Note: Katie is also quite intelligent and serious about her thesis and then working as a director. She becomes Sebastian’s assistant/intern for the summer season.]

    M.M.’s Character profiles – Part 1

What I learned about this assignment is to free associate and let the characters come forward instead of shooting for perfection. It was great to just write without editing, but I have a head start with many characters from the first novel in this series moving on to this sequel.

    2. Protagonist role: Fighter — Bella is constantly proving herself as the only female on the team, torn between loyalty to her teammate husband and her baseball ambition; battles her husband to keep her baby; fights for the pro-life movement against her best friend.

    3. Antagonist role: Villain — Bella’s new Puerto Rican husband Emilio is also her baseball teammate; jealous of all men; especially her long-time platonic relationship with the starting pitcher Luke; abuses Bella when drunk; competitive with her in everything – baseball, shooting range, hunting and sex.

    4. Other characters:

Supporting characters: Best friend Mia; MLB agent; Coach O’Brien; pro life organization
    director. <div>

    Minor roles: Luke’s
parents Matt and Grace; Bella’s mother Valencia

Background characters: Team players; college students; MLB participants; game
    spectators; shooting range trainer

    5. Genre: Family drama about the 2nd Amendment and pro-life Christian values in a baseball setting.

    6. Lead Character Profiles:

    · <b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”>Age range and Description: Female, 21, athletic, tough as nails sole female player on the baseball team, devout Christian.

    · Internal Journey: From being too afraid to stand up to her abusive, jealous husband to believing in herself and divorcing him.

    · External Journey: From accepting her abusive husband pressuring her for an abortion to divorcing him and raising their child while being drafted into MLB.

    Motivation:
To have it all – an MLB career and a family </div>

    Wound:
Fear of not achieving her deceased
father’s dream for her of making an MLB team.
    Mission/Agenda:
Be drafted to MLB team and raise a family with her husband

    Secret: She
is pregnant but only her husband knows.

What makes them special? Bella and Emilio are both marksmen and love to hunt.

    SUBJECT: Laura’s Character Profiles – Part 1

WHAT DID I LEARN FROM THIS ASSIGNMENT? The impact genre choices have on turning the story. I’ve always thought of my story as a CAPER genre – which I might still explore at a later time. For the purpose of this assignment, I’m trying out the BUDDY genre option, which alters my choice of antagonist and has me asking the question: Can I have an antagonist AND a villain?

PROTAGONIST’S ROLE IN STORY: HEROINE. Jack is Buster’s daughter who is called back home to Wyoming under false pretenses and finds herself in the middle of yet another one of her father’s crazy stunts

AGE RANGE AND DESCRIPTION: Female, about 30, athletic and attractive, confident and smart with a honed edge for cutting through the bullshit.

INTERNAL JOURNEY: From uncompromising and unforgiving to understanding and forgiving.

EXTERNAL JOURNEY: From a hard-assed NYC businesswoman to a full-on Wyoming rule-breaker with a cause.

MOTIVATION: Never to be made a fool of ever again

WOUND: Father always set her up to be with him as the town jester which resulted in her being made fun of by the other kids

MISSION/AGENDA: Fulfill her father’s final wishes in order to put him in a retirement home and shut him out of her life once and for all

SECRET: The dead, dismembered mobster buried in coolers all over town

WHAT MAKES HER SPECIAL: She is focused and determined to get this done.

ANTAGONIST’S ROLE IN STORY: CHANGE AGENT. As the aging town jester, Buster tricks his daughter into coming home, making the deal that he’ll go into a home if she will help him bring resolution to a terrible event that happened before she was born.

AGE RANGE AND DESCRIPTION: Male, about 80, tall with wild white hair, ever eager to entertain, often dressed in top hat and tails and spouting Shakespeare.

MOTIVATION: Seek forgiveness and resolution for those he has hurt

WOUND: To save the town, he and his war buddies fought and accidentally killed a mobster, hiding the body in pieces to avoid potential retribution from the mob

MISSION/AGENDA: Buster knows it’s time to close up all the loose ends in his life and draws his daughter in close to help him

SECRET: Those pesky dead body parts

WHAT MAKES HIM SPECIAL: A quirky elder protector of the town who wears his heart on his sleeve and has a Shakespeare quote for any occasion.

    OTHER CHARACTERS:

Joining in the caper: Bonnie, the next-door neighbor, and her brother Kilo, a wounded soul who barely survived Afghanistan and spends most of his time running around town naked

Against the caper: Teller Jr, a candidate for governor and Jack’s high school boyfriend who will fight to keep the mobster’s murder a secret.

The cowboys and townspeople of Chugwater

THE GENRE: Buddy (with strong hints of CAPER)

Angelina Fluehler- Character Profiles Part 1

“What I learned doing this assignment is…?” I understand better my characters and what they need to do to complete each other. I also understand better my story line and how to complete the full script and separate scenes.

Protagonist, Explorer-Fighter, TORY, man in his 30s.:

He is not an ordinary human; his is from another planet in a different galaxy. He is a gamer on his planet and playing a reality game for entertainment, where however his soul has been sent to earth. It is his task to find & guess the right strategy to win in the game and earn the “ticket home”.

Internal Journey: From not knowing the rules of the game to knowing them and knowing how to be released from it, becoming independent thinker and spiritually strong.

External Journey: At the beginning he is living a normal life without remembering previous reincarnations. After the point of change (hint from curator) he is living consciously with the awareness and being in control what is right and what is wrong. Finally he is getting high scores by being on the “right” way. Game is over and he is free to go back home.

Motivation: He wants to return to his own body on his home planet for this he has to earn enough points to complete the game.

Wound: -not exist in the context at the moment-

Mission: Advancement in the game, get soul experience on earth and complete the game.

What makes them special? He is not an ordinary human.

    Genre: FICTION ACTION.

Motivation: He is still earning his points in the game and enjoying playing.

Wound: -not exist in the context at the moment-

Mission: Advancement in the game, get soul experience on earth and complete the game.

Internal Journey: From not knowing the rules of the game to knowing them, following the system to getting surprised that he was doing wrong thing.

External Journey: He starts playing the game at the later point of time. At the beginning he is living (playing) similar to the protagonist just in different time periods and roles. The behavior and understanding of the game is the same. At the end he learns from protagonist that his way (old way) is not the right way. Thus he is getting surprised and challenged to reset his values.

What makes them special? He is not an ordinary human.

Hi Cheryl, I posted my assignment around 9 p.m. MST last night. I attempted to retrieve it so I could reference it for today’s assignment and I do not see it. I contacted technical support. Any ideas on where it went?

    MY MOTHER’S MUSTACHE ROM/COM

What I learned from this assignment: Coming of Age Crowe’s “Almost Famous” (2000) meets Branagh’s “Much Ado About Nothing.” I don’t have to use the same characters from MAAN–only the tone. Then my lead characters came easily.

ALYSON GIDEON–Protagonist/Dreamer in this love triangle

19, willowy with long blonde hair, blue steel eyes and California tan

Internal journey= covers her fear and shyness with verbal sparing

External journey= finally rejects Tex’s advances and “marries” Matt in the stage production of the final scene of ” Much Ado About Nothing” as her final exam in her Shakespeare class taught by Miss Jones

Motivation= Wants the lead in MAAN and to lose her virginity and fall in love like in her dreams. More motivated by fame than being rich.

Wound= Parents married for 53 years after having her at 19–her age now. Believes she will never be loved. Never have a marriage like theirs.

Mission= To decide if its sex or love

Agenda/Plan=Tests the water with Tex or Matt

Secret= She is a virgin despite her vibrato and raging hormones

What makes her special? Soft and cuddly internally, but a bulldog with language

    TEX–Antagonist/Predator

21, tall, rich, narcissist, never without his white stetson and the keys to his red corvette and to the London Playboy mansion. Student body president and bar-keep of the crawl space where students can go and have sex behind the bar in basement of the on-campus pub called “My Mother’s Mustache”

Mission= to get Alyson in that crawl space for his sexual peccadilloes

Agenda/Plan= to “win” her in Texas Holdem, Pooh Bear Cards Alyson creates, and playing Matt and the Pooh Bears in basketball game

Motivation= Big man on campus. Playboy.

Wound= first love jilted him. Objectifies women with subconscious anger ever since.

Internal journey= from sexpot to charmer

External journey=gives his keys to /alyson and Matt, closes down the crawl space in MMM, apologizes to Babs and calls her by her eal name, Barbara

Unique= pompous ass can be reformed after all

MATT Alyson’s love interest, rival of Tex, damn good actor/singer

20, tall athletic. mop of black hair and beard

Internal journey= from betrothed to Liz, to falling in love with Alyson

External journey=From wanting lead in MAAN, getting Alyson play opposite to his lead

Secret= engaged to his girlfriend back in CA, Liz

    OTHER MINOR CHARACTERS:

Mrs. Hurst, 60ish, headmistress in tweed and felt fedora with two corgis trailing her everywhere, rules college with iron fist, wound very tight indeed

Mother Superior, ancient, comes on Sundays to visit the nuns’ graveyard, surprisingly and unexpected change agent for Alyson giving her love advice to go with Matt

Gaily Cowgill. 19. pigtailed, Alyson’s roommate and BFF

Miss Jones, 30, always seen in her Oxford doctorate robe. Preeminent Shakespeare scholar, she played Calaban in The Tempest at Oxford at age 18. lectures every Wednesday on everything Shakespeare without notes in cold quonset hut next to convent. Cherubic face and short cropped white hair.

Liz, 20, dark haired sour debutante. Matt’s fiance shows up at beginning of second semester to be obstacle for Alyson

Babs/Barbara, 19, Tex’s big-boobed sex toy used to spy on Alyson for Tex. In the end, demands Tex calls her by her real name Barbara. Same blond hair as Alyson.

    Ruben-Matt’s BFF

    Elaine–rich Egyptian princess. Student 21

Professor Boris Bagdasorov, 40 set designer/director complete with cape and goatee.

PATRICIA BROWN LESSON 3: CHARACTER PROFILES PT 2

What I learned from this assignment came from reading the other classmates’ entries for Pt. 1. Saw how they were succinct. Saw how they were consistent with the chosen genre and missions throughout. Saw some harbingers of twists too. I can cut my descriptions and get to the meat of the matter. Even though it has been decades since I saw Silence of the Lambs and was so off-put by it I only saw it once, the character profiles of Clarisse and Hannibal

    ALYSON

TRAITS=kind, fish out of water, curious about others, hilarious, verbally witty.

SUBTEXT=gas “tells” when playing cards and flirting with Matt: touches her hair, tiny smirk, spouts Shakespeare instead of expressing desire directly even when kissing him

FLAW=naive, can’t carry a tune or stutters when sings?

VALUES- fame over fortune, love for love’s sake, wants her “authentic self” to be known

IRONY=her indecisiveness about to which suitor to lose her virginity with, could sabotage her chance of losing it.

What makes this the right character for this role? Incongruity of pairing (Alyson and Tex)=Comedy

    TEX

    TRAITIS=narcissi

    tic, boastful, stubborn, little empathy

    SUBTEXT=flirting always equals sex

    FLAW= misogynistic exponentially

VALUES= Money can buy you sex if not love. Flipside, he can sell anything—even himself to Alyson

IRONY= If he stopped leading with sex, would probably get more of it AND love

Why is this the right character for this role?

Incongruity of Pairing (Alyson/Tex) is equal to Comedy

Arrgh. In prior courses I have allowed myself to become overwhelmed and started slipping assignments. I was determined not to do that this time, but I looked for my 2nd assignment (which I “thought” I had submitted well before the deadline) but it appears to not be there. Can I go back and fill it in? It appears to not be the case.

I’ll go on with subsequent assignments, and today I will start paying a lot more attention to my fellow classmates and their writing. Just discouraged that somehow, I “thought” I did the work for the 2nd assignment and then managed to not get it posted. 🙁

    DAY 2: Benny’s Character Profile Part 1

    HERO/ANTI-HERO

Benny will go from a selfish, cheating con man to the leader of a bunch of other desperate outcasts to come together to make a movie. He will help his aging mother financially instead of stealing from her. He will become an unlikely mentor to a emerging, down on his luck writer.

The major Antagonist is the gangster Leo who is the change agent. He’s the catalyst, his demand to be repaid for money that he thinks Benny stole from him sets Benny on his transformational journey. He eventually becomes an ally in a surprise twist at the end.

Other characters include Kitty the washed-up diva actress who also acts as antagonist for much of the script before becoming an ally, Anthony the down on his luck screenwriter who acts as a buddy and mentee to Benny, and Kitty’s “manager” Paul who also acts as an antagonist for much of the script.

    <div>
    </div>

    Comedy is the genre

    <div><div>

Profile of Benny: 40s-50s, rough around the edges, knocked around by life. Internal journey is going from being a selfish liar to a more selfless, honest man with himself and others. External is going from being an unsuccessful small-time con man to a successful big-time movie producer. Motivation is to save himself and his mother from being killed and pay back his supposed debt. Wound is never thinking he can live up to his father’s legacy. Mission/agenda: make a movie. Secret: he has no idea what he’s doing. He’s special because he taps into his conning talent and puts it to good use when producing a movie.

What I learned doing this assignment is trust in the work that I’ve already done and stay open to new possibilities.

LESSON 2 – WHO ARE WE TRAVELING WITH?

Connie Whitmer – Character Profiles Part 1

What I learned – that it is best to define Characters, roles, antagonism before you start writing, so that you can design them having most effect along MC arc.

    Brian Boru –

Protagonist Role : Hero – insignificant orphan, youngest of 12 brothers, just a boy like any other, just wants to catch the biggest fish, represents the innocent, joyful, child, with hopes and dreams. And then the nightmare comes, and that world is destroyed.

Age range and Description : 10 years old, as the youngest of 12, he grows up tough, fearless, competitive, athletic. Stubborn, willful, and always come up with a plan.

Internal Journey: Begins with secure happy, loving, nurturing, family and Clan, no stress, guilt, or regrets. After Dane attack and family slaughtered, he has only his eldest brother left, Ring fort is destroyed. There is nothing left of his old life, or hope for future, alone, saddened, lost. He will reclaim them all.

External Journey: Beginning of Transformational journey, after of period of being lost and alone – he goes home to start over. Vowing to avenge his family’s deaths.

Motivation / Agenda: He wants to drive the Danes out of Ireland, He needs to never be made to stand by, powerless to protect those he loves. And make Restitution.

Wound: After he promises to keep a little girl safe, and fails, she is brutally raped, burned, with scars inside and out. He feels, shame, guilt, sadness. He vows to find her, heal her wounds, love her and watch over her all his life.

Mission / Agenda: and to drive the Danes back into the sea to drown in their own blood. One day, he will restore Erin to the way it was before the Danes came.

Secret : After the attack Brian is tormented by something, but he will not tell what it is, too horrible to speak out loud, to tell, until the end . . . He did carry the little girl out of the burning tower, so people give him credit for saving her. Which torments him worse.

In the climax he finally confesses, after he successfully hid her, and told them she jumped to her death, when the Danes are beating him nearly to death. She comes out of hiding so they will stop beating him. She saves him, by sacrificing herself.

Special: As observed by his teacher and priest; he is a strange child, not at all like all his

rapscallion brothers. Rushes headlong into danger, interested in the ancient ones and

their stories, looks back with admiration, to the future with expectation, devoted to

dogs and horses, defender of the powerless, with a deep-seeded hatred for bullies.

    Antagonist – Malachy II

Role in story: Villain, competitor, tormenter, change agent, son of the High King, and the next in line to the be the most powerful King in Ireland, dictated by 600 years of uninterrupted Ui Neill dynastic power.

Age and Description: a couple of years younger than Brian. He has natural attributes, but lacks the moral compass, empathy, and honor.

Internal Journey : Malachy’s Father, the High King, senses his weaknesses, and is always comparing him to Brian, and how he is fearless,, beloved by people, followed, instills jealousy and hate into him. Brian must never be allowed to thrive.

External Journey – His father and ancestors, High Kings by tradition, fail their people and homeland, by selling out to the Danes. They let the Danes savage, raid, and enslave the people.

Motivation : To become the next High King, by right, and to make sure Brian never gets close to power.

Wound: His father is ashamed of him. And the little girl choses Brian over him. He lives in fear that he will lose the Ui Neill High Kingship.

Mission/Agenda: To keep Brian from exceeding him.

Secret: His jealousy, insecurities, and appetites for sex, alcohol, cheating, and plan to sabotage Brian every step of the way.

Special: Exceedingly successful, snake in the grass, scheming, manipulating, paying off, getting into bed with traitors, and tyrants.

    Supporting roles:

Gofraid, Ivar, Olaf, Dane Viking raiders. The other end of the spectrum, Psychopaths

Murchuada – the father of Gormlaith – the puppet master.

Maelmorda – his young son, flawed, physically, mentally, emotionally, weak, gluttonous, pathetic.

Maelsuthain – Father, Mentor, Brian’s inspiration, connection to past, understands him, wonder’s if he might be the One.

Gormlaith – love interest competition, villainess, chess master,
