What I learned… my brain doesn’t work like this. Also, I thought the manipulation in Ozark was so obvious that it turned me off to the series. Why would money-launderers pretend to be financial advisers? If they deal in millions, why would they scam that couple out of $5000? And if Marty is watching a private eye video of his wife cheating, why hide that fact from the viewers? When we found out what it was, I felt cheated. A guy who watches porn when he is trying to make a sale is far kinkier than a guy who watches his wife cheat in the same circumstance. The first is an object of curiosity — why would he do that? The second is an object of pity. Why did he suspect her? Everything seems okay at home. Unlike what Hal said, I saw no hatred between Marty and his wife. After one episode, I never want to watch Ozark again. Breaking Bad didn’t cheat. It showed the craziness and then showed what led up to the craziness. It didn’t misrepresent anything. I have created an unusual world and I am revealing it a bit at a time. The method in this lesson doesn’t fit with my mindset.

Lisa’s Layers and Reveals
What I learned doing this assignment is that I already had some plot layers and covers ups already thought out, but I was still worrying about how to make more coverups and layers to the point where I was considering rearranging everything and making it more complicated. I added some details introducing a couple more characters that will be beneficial to the plot line, such as Lucy being seen by Marc at the Pig Vigil, and introducing Dr. Berkwood’s husband to show what kind of person she’s married to and the distress she has in her life. I also added some intrigue to hint at the power that the vampires have over society.

Layers, Cover Ups, Reveals
I learnt that there is always an opportunity to write more depth into an episode using techniques such as Layers, Cover Ups and Reveals.
Although I may not have added many with this exercise, hopefully there is enough sets ups for intrigue to have the reveals in the following episodes, hopefully having hooked the audience. Fingers crossed.
I added Elliot puzzling over the hand written invitation from Richard to meet him at the “Molly House” showing the name of the place, the date and the time for their secret meeting. This has created doubt in Elliot’s mind, were they set up and by whom?
