This was the most fun. Getting one season thread on paper is a great feeling. It helped me find a more definitive arc/direction/conclusion for one of my characters which is all I can ask for sometimes. I could have spent hours correlating this information, instead of by season I am probably going to break it down by character in each season too. But this is the first draft. This is the idea so Producers can get a feel for the vision. It can go in SO SO many directions.

Also, after watching the Queen’s Gambit I was amazed at how the writer organized the material into episodes by using a new character that would add to her life. Making a basic, flowing framework you can work inside for each episode season helps to string along with the ideas.

    Episode 1 – First Kind

A UN employee witnesses a UFO in the act of abducting someone in public on the side of the road. She searches for a plausible “Earthly” explanation by asking her old friend in the Air Force (Lukas), a seasoned paranormal investigator (Jacob), and a college professor who investigates abduction reports to look at the information. All of the answers Rebecca uncovers do not reflect her experience. Rebecca starts to look for the person she witnessed getting abducted in order to finally understand the event.

    Episode 2 – Second Kind

Paranormal investigator Jacob takes skeptical Rebecca to a reported UFO landing site that left physical trace evidence. They meet the caretaker of the land White Bear who shows them around and tells them about his encounters. USAF Lukas adds more information to his report on Jakob and plans a counterintelligence operation to discredit him. Julianne is told she is not pregnant anymore. Rebecca has her first dream.

    Episode 3 – Third Kind

Rebecca and Jacob continue their investigation at the farm and find dozens of people who had paranormal encounters over the past week. Rebecca is still looking for a plausible terrestrial reason and Lukas confronts her that she should stop looking into the case. Julianne is mourning the loss of her unborn baby. White Bear introduces Rebecca and Jacob to the abductee she was searching for.

    Episode 4 – Fourth Kind

The increased interest in the Farmland case means Lukas cannot protect Rebecca anymore and he includes her in his case reports. The abductee Elizabeth does not remember her missing time or abduction experience. Jacob calls Julianne to hypnotically regress Elizabeth to find out details of that night. The experience triggers Julianne and Rebecca to have traumatic dreams and memories.

Episode 5 – The Fifth Kind

Lukas continues to fall in love with Rebecca and requests to be taken off this project. Jakob confronts one of the agents who is feeding him secret information. While Julianne wakes up to find the signs of having been abducted and starts to try and recall the night before. Rebecca begins to have problems in her career because of the investigation.

Episode 6 – The Sixth Kind

The Farmland investigation is blown wide open when White Bear is discovered dead along with multiple farm animals. Rebecca gets strange messages that don’t have any meaning to her life. Jacob is physically and mentally attacked by an invisible entity leaving him hospitalized. Lukas gets Rebecca’s husband fired from his job.

Episode 7 – The Seventh Kind

Jacob and Julianne have very unusual sexual encounters and relationships emerge. Lukas finally tells Rebecca of his undying love for her and tries to start an affair.

    Episode 8 – Circles

Julianne discovers she is pregnant again. Lukas kidnaps Elizabeth in order to gather information about the aliens and abductions. Rebecca discovers the kidnapping, thinking this is the terrestrial explanation she has been looking for, and confronts Lukas. Lukas is forced to show Rebecca an interrogation video of a transgenic being by the military. Jacob finds out that the material he just self-published is also made up of information by the Government.

    Emmanuel Sullivan’s Episode Descriptions

What I learned doing this assignment is each episode must be engaging to the reader so that they want to come back for more, so it is important to only include items that will pique interest. Although this assignment was an interesting journey, I had a tough time, it made me think and rethink my framework.

    Episode 1:

Mark, a former democrat president, and Andrew, a former republican president, celebrate their foundation’s 1st anniversary in a bipartisan affair at Mark’s home. While the party is in a festive mode, an affair transpires in a spare bedroom. A guest at the event records the affair and blackmails the party involved. Mark enlists his son to squash the tape, but that deal comes with an unusual request, that ultimately must be fulfilled by the former democrat leader of the free world.

    Episode 2:

Andrew makes a bold move to fund the foundation’s upcoming payroll. His vice is gambling, and that includes any type, from poker, sports, dogs and horses, to good ol’ slots when he has money to spare. However, he is a former president, and to get in the action, he must go undercover. The risk is huge, but he manages to pull off making the payroll deadline, however, senior management is not happy because now they are forced to fix financial reporting documents, which could lead to legal questions.

    Episode 3:

A routine IRS audit turns serious, partly from incomplete financial documents and the other, a questionable interview with Justice, the inexperienced, offspring CFO. Andrew and Mark pull political favors to no avail. Andrew devises a plan to alter the records, but Mark is strongly opposed. The foundation is still under financial pressure and the development team uses unusual methods to raise funds.

    Episode 4:

The media camp out at 49:50’s front door demanding answers to the recent leaked IRS audit and current FBI investigation. Andrew directs his son, the CTO, to placate the media coverage. His attempts to quiet the media fail and Andrew devises a plan to mitigate the concerns, but his clever plan backfires when a former employee surfaces with a discrimination lawsuit.

    Episode 5:

The foundation’s board calls an emergency meeting with Mark and Andrew and announces they all have resigned. They then call in the foundation’s senior management, the pair’s offspring, to announce an interim CEO to manage the damage. Andrew Jr is selected as interim CEO, but he resigns due to his father’s unrelenting pressure.

    Episode 6:

The construction on the foundation’s new facility is behind schedule and Andrew is anxious to speed up the process. Mark, suggest they hire more crew, at a lower rate to save funds, and instructions his son Justice to locate a sizable crew and alter documents. The press learns of the illegal aliens and informs US immigration, who conducts a raid. Justice is charged with tampering with federal documents.

    Episode 7:

Molly Brice discovers that Sarah Cason is having an affair with Andrew’s former VP. She uses this information to leverage control over the foundation’s interior design project. Sarah fights back by making a public announcement that she has an open marriage.

    Episode 8:

The foundation’s staff morale swings to a new low due to inexperienced senior management. The two former presidents, serving as co-chairman, and with the board’s recommendation, hire a consulting firm to guide their offspring to correct past mismanagement and recommend a future course of action. With the generation alpha’s careers in jeopardy, will they survive or be replaced with an entirely new management team?

I had been thinking about how to make more effective use of my main characters and how to make my protagonist more active. As I wrote these descriptions, I realized that I had to give a lot of the capabilities and the experience I had assigned to one character to my protagonist, giving him a lot more history and force of will, so that he is a force to be reckoned with in the story.

By that time, Lizzie had already conceived a child and had been disowned by her father, who was the reverend in their village. Lizzie searched all over for her lover, but was nowhere to be found. By the time her child was about to be born, she was wandering on a road in the dead of winter. The child was born in the middle of the storm, and was lost to the elements. Renee Brown’s Episode Descriptions

What I learned in this lesson is to not be too attached to the form of this first draft. Just get the basics down.

First season episodes – Renee Brown’s Alien Earth

    Episode 1: It arrives

A strange planet appears between earth and mars. As humanity spins into chaos, Dauntus uses the distraction to initiate his plan – world domination. Tallas rallies the other pro-human alien factions to prepare for Dauntus’ coup.

Tallas has finally reached Steelman, telling him of Dauntus’ plan when… all communication devices on earth go black. Internet, phones, satellites, radios, Times Square…gone.

Then, the booming voice of Dauntus. The terrifying scowl of his face on everything – “Humans. Continue looking to the sky for your salvation. But now you pray to me.”

    Episode 2: The Skyfliers Coup

Defying his father, Anauk gets the world communication links back online and re-cloaks the new planet. Steelman unleashes the alien cover-up propaganda machine to manage the escalating worldwide chaos – It was an elaborate hoax by a genius hacker.

Steelman flies to the Skyflier city to manage Dauntus. While there, the Alien UN calls an emergency meeting on the dark side of the moon. Dauntus does not let the delegate ships pass, and Steelman must threaten Dauntus that his supply of ? will be cut off if he does not comply.

Dauntus concedes then shows Steelman the X planet. Steelman tries to get intel on X Planet inhabitants. Dauntus says: you’ll know soon enough.

Episode 3: The propaganda machine meets Suzanne

Suzanne shows her colleagues images she captured of the X Planet. They could not have been hacked. She points out the huge booster ports and claims it is a big ship planet. She is laughed out of the room.

Suzanne goes to big networks with her footage, but they try to debunk her — each according to their political leanings. Steelman is watching Suzanne on TV when a summons comes in from Tallas.

Steelman travels to the underground world to find Anauk and Tallas waiting for him. Tallas is taking Steelman with him to the Alien UN meeting, but Tallas must first disguise Steelman as a longhead – humans are not allowed.

Episode 4: Black Market mission to the new planet

Now disguised as a Longhead, Steelman travels with Tallas and Anauk to the Alien base on the dark side of the moon where the AUN threatens to banish the Skyfliers for Dauntus’ coup. They demand that Dauntus unblocks the X Planet’s communications.

Steelman spots his recently disappeared longhead lover, Spector, in the crowd of delegates. As he tries to make his way to her, the first visuals come on screen from the X Planet. The newcomers are…

    Episode 5: Homecoming

Alien UN: Tallas steps forth as the first images of the X planet fill the screens. He stares into the eyes of another Longhead. The ancient Longhead origin planet has arrived.

Steelman finds Spector, pulls her into a side room and yanks off his disguise. Just as their reunion gets steamy, Steelman realizes there is something between them – her belly. Spector is pregnant with Steelman’s child.

On the X Planet, Tallas arrives and meets with the New Longhead Council. He tells them about the fabricated prophecy, that he is still fabricating it, and that, remarkably, X planet just fulfilled one of the false prophecy signposts.

    Episode 6: Two murdered mothers

Dauntus and Anauk stand in Skyflier City looking at the X Planet. Dauntus sneers “Your just like your mother” and makes a veiled threat that if Anauk is not careful he will suffer the same fate.

Reeling with the knowledge that his father killed his mother, Anauk flies deep into the ocean trench world of the Deepers to hang out with Saltar. As always, Saltar tries to seduce her way to access the DSOM. But Anauk is here for friendship, not romance.

He hints that his mother was murdered and Saltar reveals that her mother was also murdered. Saltar gets a close look at Anauk’s broken wing and says she can fix it with Deeper Biotech. But this will come at a price.

    Episode 7: Academic no more

Suzanne gets a fiery brick through her window with a death threat attached. Suzanne rushes to the door- there is a mob outside. Reporters, protestors, the whole thing.

Suzanne is kidnapped by a group from the mob. These turn out to be black ops and she is disappeared into Steelman’s top-secret world where he educates her about alien earth.

Suzanne doesn’t know if she is being played, mocked, or about to be killed. Steelman ushers her to an elevator. It takes them deep underground. The doors open on a room with a single occupant: Tallas. He asks, “Are you ready to begin?”

Episode 8: Blowing up the moon base

Steelman learns elite humans plan to blow up the alien base on the DSOM. Steelman tries to talk them down, but the plan is made – the Elites fear alien unification.

Steelman rallies Tallas to meet with the Elites. Tallas convinces them that they would not kill the head of the snake but would start a war they cannot win.

The Elites stand down, but reveal they installed a dead man’s switch in the base during construction. They can blow it up at moment’s notice and will if Dauntus pulls another stunt like that. Steelman can’t let that happen. Spector is on that base, with his unborn hybrid child.

Episode 9: The Steelman legacy and the lost beauty

Steelman and Suzanne examine some ancient artifact. Suzanne makes a reference to her father and his helping support. She pries for personal connection with Steelman – asks him about family.

Flashback to 1990’s. Young Steelman happy and in love, escorts his new wife to his father’s doorstep. His father urgently pulls him in for some confidential talk and tells Steelman’s wife to wait on the porch.

His wife wanders through the garden instead, looking at the beautiful rose bushes. Steelman’s father rushes out onto the porch with Steelman and screams for her not to move. Too late. His young bride has stepped into a trap set for another. Both Steelmans watch helplessly as she is blown to bits.

Back to present: Steelman simply tells Suzanne that he and his father are strictly business.

    Episode 10: Little orphan Ephyra

Saltar is in her deep-sea farm with her hatchlings playing around her. She is summoned to the Reptilisander council and shown her mother’s corpse. She will take over her mother’s leadership.

Saltar reels and refuses. The council starts killing her hatchlings by sea banishment until she agrees. She watches her youngest through the bio glass as it is torn away by the current. Saltar falls to her knees and complies.

The current carries the baby hatchling to Tallas’ water’s edge cave. His grudge against the Deepers tempts him to leave the thing for dead, but his respect for life wins out and he picks up the little Deeper. The hatchling stares up at him with desperate eyes.

Season Finale Episode 11: Dad’s here, and he brought company

Steelman takes Suzanne to the deep sea trench Deeper city where they are received by Saltar. She gives Suzanne a relic- a half skull with a chunk of ancient tech lodged in it. Saltar tells them if they can find the other half of the skull, they will find the true destroyers of the Starfinder.

Tallas Delivers his newfound hatchling to the oldest Deeper Caves under Antarctica. He names her Ephyra. He hands Ephyra over to the high priest mothers to train her mind in the Longhead traditions.

Anauk makes a deal with Saltar for access to the DSOM base in exchange for repairing his broken wing.

Steelman finds out his father led the plan to destroy the moon base. He confronts his father at Elite Human HQ. But his father has brought company – The leader of the new alien on the block: The Greys.
