Day 6. Denise delivering multiple layers. What I learned doing this assignment is to take the audience deeper beneath the surface of the plot, character, and location.
Plot:
Major Scheme Revealed: To trap robbers.
Thought it was one thing, but it is another: A normal grocery store.
Hidden plan: Use counting money as bait.
Characters:
Deborah
Hidden Character History: Attempted sex in exchange for money but couldn’t.
Mr. Green
Hidden Character History: Retired Criminal Prosecutor.

Hidden Character History: Drug user and homelessness.

Real Operation, is the ice cream stand, however to all the employees it is much deeper. It is a Family and they talk to each other about their problems and other teenage dilemma.
Hidden operation: Employees also have very strong connections to Town ManagementDeeper meaning: Employees bring a fresh perspective to problem solving.Trap to draw preyUnique sub-world: In a small town everyone has a connection, and many people hold grudges.

How Revealed: Revealed in the end when we see them all gathering in the parking lot of the ice cream stand. Notable people show up.

What I learned doing this assignment is that it got me to think about elements of the story in a different way. Most of what I brainstormed is not workable, but a couple of them did spark some ideas.
1. Brainstorm potential plot layers.
Major scheme revealed: Jay and Lulu befriended Scott as a ruse to use Scott to get a reward.
Mystery revealed: The entire exercise was a covert job interview.
Thought it was one thing, but it is another: What turns out tame and sexual becomes sadistic.
Major shift in Meaning: What starts as sex online videos for pay shifts to a lesson on the power debt has over us.
Hidden history: Each numbered box that is opened is a clue to the origins of this twisted scenario.
Hidden plan: This is Lulu’s film project that she is filming.
2. Brainstorm potential character layers.
Secret identity: Daddy isn’t real. It’s an Ai.
Intrigue layers: Each roommate reveals their ability to be unscrupulous when money is involved.
Hidden relationships and conspiracies: Daddy is one of Scott’s internship co-workers.
Hidden Character history: Jay made up his story about his parents and what his childhood was like. He was really an orphan.
3. Brainstorm potential location layers.
Hidden operation: The roommates are all sedated. They wake up in the same apartment. Only it’s a precisely designed set to mimick their apartment.
Deeper meaning: The apartment is a representation of each roomies financial situation.
Trap to draw prey: Scott, Jay, and Lulu are Daddy’s prey.
Unique sub-world: The fake apartment is on a soundstage.
4. Tell us about the layers you’ve chosen. Use this format with each of them:
Surface Layer: Scott turns to OnlyFans as a means to make money.
Beneath That: Scott’s only fan, Daddy, lures Scott into performing sexual acts that turn sadistic acts with large sums of money.
How Revealed: When Daddy pays one of the roommates to physically hurt the other for money.

What I learned is that each segment, Characters, Locations, and Plots can be layered and deliver on more than one level.
Surface Layers-Plot-It’s an old artifact. Beneath that it’s actually a trap to draw prey, because it houses a spirit/creature/curse. Revealed through mishandling.
Surface Layers-Character-Relationship twixt Head custodian and new custodian. Beneath that relationship is that of Uncle/Nephew. Nephew has just gotten out of jail, “but no one needs to know.” Revealed through overheard conversation.
Surface Layers-Location is a Museum of Natural History-Beneath that is the Unique subword of the Museum, where a hidden operation dealing in stolen antiquities is going on. Revealed through character accidentally entering a room where the action is taking place.
