Opening

· M1 – Hero remembering mother’s death, father’s abandonment, and her own kidnapping.

· A1 – Villain and gunmen break into hero’s home.

· V1 – Take revenge on hero’s family by framing father and killing mother.

· V2 – Kidnaps hero as a child to train and perform experiments on to see if she has the right levels of blood enzymes to operate specialized government tech.

· A2 – Hero chases suspect through foliage. Hero’s enhanced physical abilities allow her to subdue suspect quickly.

Inciting Incident

· M2 – Hero searches for information about who she really is and her family.

· M3 – Hero’s superior realizes hero has been secretly looking for her family’s information.

· V3 – Hero’s superior discovers hero is searching for information about her parents and who she really is.

· V4 – Villain sets up hero to look like a traitor before she gets any closer to finding out who she is and what he has done.

· A3 – Hero and new partner escape gunmen sent by villain to capture her by using specialized tech weapons to slow the gunmen down.

· M4 – Superior wants her captured or dead.

First Turning Point at end of Act 1

· M5 – Superior sends specialized force to capture hero.

· V6 – Special forces attack hero’s lab which sends the hero on the run. Explosions, car chase, secret tech that allows hero to escape.

· V5 – Villain realizes capture may not be possible and instructs specialized forces to use any means necessary, including deadly force.

Mid-Point

· V7 – Special forces track hero using tech in her blood.

· V8 – Special forces attack hero again as hero tries to find hidden emergency equipment.

· V9 – Special forces fight with hero, but her enhanced abilities easily beat them.

· A3 – Hero and new partner escape gunmen sent by villain to capture her by using specialized tech to slow the gunmen down – doors that tase at the touch, hidden garage that provides escape route, office self-destruct that explodes the office and garage, eliminating gunmen’s ability to follow. PURPOSE: Shows hero’s access to unique technology that’s exciting to watch. Introduces confused partner. Puts hero on the run. (A)

· A4 – Hero fights of several gunmen simultaneously using enhanced abilities. Saves partner’s life by disarming gunmen and knocking him out with roundhouse kick.

· A5 – Violence increases to shootout with guns and rocket launcher. Hero evades these powerful weapons using enhanced abilities.

· A6 – Hero rips tires, destroys trucks of gunmen, breaks helicopter blades. Partner hot wires truck and speeds away with hero.

· A7 – Villain sabotages tech that enhances hero’s abilities.

· V12 – Villain disables special tech which removes hero’s enhanced ability injuring hero, but she narrowly escapes.

· M6 – Tech embedded in her blood begins to threaten her life; she must get back to headquarters to fix the issue.

· A9 – Partner convinces hero to go to his superior before confronting villain.

· M7 – Go to partner’s superior who might help her.

Second Turning Point at end of
Act 2

· V10 – Special forces no longer able to track hero. Must use conventional means that takes longer.

· V11 – Special forces finally find hero and another battle ensues.

· A8 – Gunmen sneak up on hero endangering innocent people who help hero escape the gunfight with some funny moves.

· M8 – With help of other superior, get back to headquarters and attack from the inside.

· A10 – Hero, partner, and partner’s superior take fight to villain.

Crisis

· V13 – Villain realizes hero is bringing the fight directly to him.

· V14 – Villain prepares to fight hero in person.

Climax

· A11 – Hero, partner, and partner’s superior sabotage building.

· A12 – Armed guards in masks shoot at them pinning them down. Hero and partner find alternate escape route leaving partner’s superior to fight off gunmen.

· A13 – Several gunmen attack hero and partner. This fight is much harder without her enhanced abilities. Hero is physically wounded. Partner is wounded. Hero kills gunmen. She binds up partner’s wound as best she can.

· V15 – Hero fights villain without enhanced abilities and is close to dying.

· A14 – Hero finally comes face to face with villain. Vicious fight between them using everything they can get their hands on in the room – table legs, glass tabletops, scissors, etc. Villain has hero pinned down when partner rushes in from hallway and tackles villain. Villain hits partner one time knocking him out. Villain gets hero in a chokehold. She desperately tries to release his arms as he taunts her. Her partner’s superior slowly enters the room with a gun. Villain flings hero to the side as he and partner’s superior begin to fight revealing secrets through their hateful verbal exchange. Villain is getting best of partner’s superior when hero rises with gun. She holds gun to villain’s head while in her other hand she holds the tool villain has been using to sabotage the tech that gives her enhanced abilities. Hero gives the villain a well-deserved ass whooping and then she shoots villain

· V16 – Villain is killed by hero.

Resolution

· M9 – Tech is fixed; evidence found exposing direct superior as the traitor, what he did to her parents and her kidnapping.

Dexter Miller: Story Map

ASSIGNMENT:

1. Start with the structure you built-in Lesson 6.

Look through your three tracks (Mission, Villain, and Action) and find the points that could work for this structure.

Opening:

A1: We see a man being shot in the corner of a Chinese lab just outside Wuhan.

V1: Then we see him getting a syringe inserted into his chest. A nurse comes over with the chart in hand and pronounces him dead as she writes… test patient number five on her chart.

A2: The men then take him immediately to the cremation retort and insert him into the blazing fire.

M1: A woman in a secured U.S. lab peering through a microscope at a reddish-blue substance. She snarls in disappointment and leaves.

A3: She gets a call on her cell. She hurries to her car and speeds off.

Inciting Incident:

A4: A TV news reporter reports the death of 5 scientists at a Chinese lab of a mysterious deadly virus. We see coverage of the area and then all of a sudden scientists come running out of the building, some with masks and some not. They’re coughing profusely! Some are slower than others. One scientist drops to the ground… dead!

V2. Penny is contacted by agents.

First Turning Point at end
of Act 1:

M2: Penny is on a
plane to China. We see a tarp-covered fabric entrance to the building. Penny is
escorted into the building.

M3: She sets up camp and immediately starts to run
tests.

M4: After many tests, she notifies her contact of her findings.

A5: She comes
across a folder marked John Doe #5… her dead husband. The file shows,
“Cremated!”

V3: Senator Hall has agents posing as scientists surveilling
her every move.

M5: She discovers an anomaly in some of her latest tests. Testing
the ashes of the five, patient 5 has a strange blood type. She notices it’s the
same as her husband’s.

Mid-Point:

M6: Penny continues to find answers, but gets a call that her daughter has been kidnapped.

V4: Hall has a meeting with Penny and she confides in Hall.

Second Turning Point at end
of Act 2:

M7: Penny discovers that
Senator Hall is behind the plot to unleash this virus upon the U.S. and that
her husband’s death was no accident.

A6: She scrambles to find out where they’re
holding her daughter and puts her plan in motion to set up Hall and expose his
plan to Congress.

M8: Penny allows herself to get captured to discover the whereabouts of her daughter.

Climax:

V5: Hall is confronted by higher ups and turns the blame on the rouge agent Penny.

Resolution:

A7: Penny’s daughter escapes and gets to a safe place.

M10: Penny takes out her
two captives and gets the test results to Congress just in time for the
congressional hearing.

V6: Hall is in his office while the hearing is going on
CCTV.

V7: They call Hall to the room and as agents knock on the door they hear a
single gunshot. Hall is slouched back in his chair dead.

M11: The virus is unleashed and people all over the world become sick and start to die.

M12: The U.S. shuts down cities across the country as we see other countries do the same and become mask-wearing people to slow the virus.

#7 Kay’s Story Map

“What I learned doing this assignment is need more research & not sure I understood M, A & V.”

M 1 Inciting Incident A nurse/aide rushes in gulping & crying. Everyone looks up & Lee says, “What’s wrong Nora?” Nora cries then stammers, “Juan is dead!” Everyone talks at once.

Flash back to Juan’s weekly visits, bringing plants & snacks; helping each senior, playing chess.

Nora says, “They found him in his car. They thought he was asleep but now they think it was fentanyl poison.”

M 2 V 1 A 1Rose, DeVon & Maurice are on computers searching for information about Mac Janssen owner of company that produces, markets & sells fentanyl. M 1 A 2 Lee is getting her hair done in the “Hair Van” & making talking with Tasha the hairdresser, “We need a ride next week.

M 3 A 3 Larry’s son is having a BBQ. I promise we’ll save you a plate!!” Larry on phone, “Look I just want to borrow your van for a couple hours. Hey I’ll get it washed (warshed) & fill tank. Ok, Ok I’ll bring back some MZ Kettle BBQ for everyone!”

M 4 Rose, DeVon & Maurice discuss death of Juan & fentanyl crisis in general. Lee says one of her cousin died from overdose, too.

A 4 Everyone does a few ju jit su moves then gets in Hair Van & starts to discuss/outline best plans for approaching Mac Janssen at headquarters.

A 3 V 2 Each senior points out different skills & obstacles as they drive into San Francisco.

V 3 first they can’t’ find parking. Finally as they approach & enter the headquarters, everything starts to close down.

V 4 Several paramilitary guards come out of the elevator to headquarters.

A 4 V 5 Lee is sure they need to act NOW because Mac Janssen will be headed back East later tonight, but the guards look very intimidating compared to five frail elders as they approach each other in the center of the atrium..

A 5 V 6 M 5 Five seniors unexpectedly using ju jit su completely overcome the guards & tie them up with hair products. When they exit the elevator, Mac Janssen is dismissive & berating. Silently each senior uses individual skills on him & then he is forced into his chair & given directions.

M 6 V 7 Mac Janssen sends several electronic communications, divesting his shares of fentanyl empire, then he is recorded on live video declaring from now on he will fight against the lethal drug industry; this appears on variety of screens, TV shows, social media including TikTok,
