My main character has, I think, many bases for empathy. She is respected by people in her town, her beloved husband dies suddenly, she wants only to be left in peace to mourn him but her village is attacked. Her choice to risk her life to save the village from a powerful man is both brave and admirable. Her mission also becomes her grieving process and a way to begin to live again without her husband.

    Dawn’s Likability/Empathy/Justification

What I learned doing this assignment is how to get an audience to care about my hero.

    LIKABILITY/LOVABILITY

    · Committed to protecting her country.

    · Committed to finding out what happened to her parents even though no one will help her.

    · New partner is first to show any support in her search for answers. She is grateful and shows gratitude by opening up to him – being funny, witty, vulnerable.

    · She is deeply wounded by the loss of her family but grows strong and obtains skills that will help her find the truth.

    · She takes care not to endanger civilians – protecting kids, evacuating building when attacked – while risking her own safety and possibility of finding the truth.

    EMPATHY/DISTRESS

    · Loses family violently. Kidnapped.

    · On her own until new partner shows up.

    · Framed as traitor. No one to trust anymore. Betrayed by father figure.

    · Losing physical abilities and unable to protect herself as usual. Must be vulnerable and accept help from partner.

    · Find truth at all costs – even her own life.

    JUSTIFICATION

    · Villain destroys her family and kidnaps her.

    · Forced to search for truth on her own.

    · Villain has isolated her until new partner shows up.

    · Villain betrays and tries to frame and capture/kill her.

    · Being chased by special forces agents.
