    Megan’s Intrigue Patterns

What I learned doing this assignment is… that using the intrigue patterns becomes easier with practice. It’s definitely helpful having an example for each pattern. I can also see the value in rewriting each sentence in the TV Pitch Bible for maximum intrigue, but it is going to take a good bit of time.

For this assignment, I ended up using a mishmash of several of these lines to rewrite my original line.

ORIGINAL LINE: Lexie soon finds herself in a world of intrigue and conspiracy when everything she thought she knew about her future self disintegrates before her eyes.

NEW LINE: And then Lexie makes the ultimate discovery: that Alexis has been lying about her true identity. She is actually an undercover agent! Now she isn’t sure what to believe and whether or not she can really trust Alexis. If Alexis is willing to lie to Lexie about her profession, what else has she lied to her about?

    A. Establish something shocking and point to the terrible things it could mean.

Backstabbed by her future self, Lexie finds out the truth: that Alexis is actually an undercover agent. Now, Lexie is questioning everything Alexis has ever told her.

    B. Strong statement; question about something underhanded beneath the surface.

Lexie had thought she’d found a friend and mentor only to discover it was all a lie: her future self is actually an undercover agent. Now Lexie isn’t sure what to believe and whether or not she can really trust Alexis.

    C. Question that points to hidden agendas, hidden identity, conspiracy, etc..

Lexie discovers that Alexis has been lying about her true identity: she is actually an undercover agent. What led her to this profession? And why didn’t she tell Lexie about it right away? Is it possible that Alexis is using Lexie to further her own career?

    D. Character 1 is convinced/worried/wondering that Character 2 has done _____________.

Lexie finds out her future self is even more exciting than she had previously realized: Alexis is actually an undercover agent. But now Lexie wonders why Alexis never told her.

    E. But maybe it is all wrong.

Lexie thought she would be excited to find out her future self is a complete badass: a real undercover agent! But if Lexie is this excited to learn the truth, why wasn’t Alexis open about the fact to begin with?

    F. A Pattern that Leads to Future Consequences

Alexis wouldn’t elaborate on Cerise’s future betrayal. She refused to explain to Lexie why her friendship with Betsy would eventually fall apart. She wouldn’t even provide any information about how or when their father would die. All the secrets suddenly make sense when Lexie finds out the biggest secret of all: that Alexis is actually an undercover agent. What else is she hiding?

    G. If he does ________________, that means ___Intrigue_____.

If Alexis is willing to lie to Lexie about her profession, what else has she lied to her about?

    H. State the mystery.

If Alexis is really trustworthy, why didn’t she tell Lexie she’s an undercover agent from the very beginning?

    I. Should be/could be _______, but it is even worse.

It should be exciting to know the truth: that her future self is a badass secret agent! But now Lexie wonders what else Alexis may have been keeping from her.

    J. Intense language.

Lexie has spent the last several months getting to know her future self only to discover she doesn’t really know Alexis at all. Now that she’s discovered that Alexis is actually an undercover agent, will Lexie ever be able to trust Alexis again?

    Suzanne’s Intrigue Patterns

What I learned is these aren’t distinct lessons for me, it’s more like a bike chain, transitioning between all the moving parts; then going back to do it again. BUT I’m using the tools and making progress … these questions point out the meat in the idea. I did them one at a time, following the examples, then put it all together.

Stella’s PR client Taz has just gone from being the toast of NOLA to threatening its existence. He claims to be warning, to protect it, but how can he know of a coming catastrophe? Of a need to “cut” NOLA from the mainland, if he’s not doing it?

How or who or what could control nature in the Gulf of Mexico?

When Taz eludes all governmental agents, Stella becomes his conduit for further warnings. And demands. But she conspires with the FBI to betray him, even though it seems he’s helping–from outside the law. She will do anything to protect her secret housed in the city.

In one night a horrific storm sets NOLA free … and shifts the future for every person on earth.

Is Stella working with the Devil? Or against humanity’s savior?

What we learned during this assignment is to continue trusting the process. This allowed us to get laser-focused on what we actually wanted to say without the fluff. We started with the concept and world portions and now will move on to editing the show summary, character descriptions, and episodes next.

    Title
    Couple Goals

    Genre/Format
    30 Minute Comedy

    Concept

When a veteran but closeted swinger outs herself to help save her best friend’s marriage, she starts living authentically and finds her purpose using her hair salon as a front for swinging advice without her husband knowing.

    Overview / World / Tone

The real and raw, NOT “Eyes Wide Shut” version of the swinger lifestyle and what either makes for a fulfilling relationship or blows it the fuck up.

We will also explore polyamory, quads, polyfidelity, BDSM, open and monogamish, and even traditional monogamous relationships to show why they fail more often than not.

The show will comically question and shake up societal norms and belief systems, especially around silly religious dogma, and show how to live your truth without fear or judgment from others specifically as it relates to sex and sexuality.

In our personal experience, swinging specifically is the most natural way for humans to have a successful long-term relationship and when done right increases trust, connection, and communication while still allowing a person to maintain freedom as an individual.

What I learned is that this is a good, albeit time consuming, way to wordsmith. This lesson also inspired me to put all the elements of the story bible together so that I could see the layout and how one could flow into another, lending some new ideas regarding presentation. Also, this lesson and its timing illuminated that I need a sustainable plan for writing while traveling. Being on the road for the next two months and trying to settle my mind to compose has proven tricky.

Original Line: The differences in their approach lead to squabbles that threaten the experiment, their careers, and the well-being of the planet.

New Line: Elliot charms the group with his charisma, wows them with his insight, and aligns them to his agenda: distrusting Twyla. What is his true motive? And, is there someone pulling his strings?

What I learned from doing this assignment is…my writing can always improve.

Pitch Bible LINE: “Fabulous Patty shoos everyone away from Erin.”

    A. Establish something shocking and point to the terrible things it could mean.

As expected, fabulous Patty garners all the attention leaving Erin out of the mix, alone , and lonely.

    B. Strong statement; question about something underhanded beneath the surface.

Why does Patty always garner the all attention leaving Erin alone and lonely?

    C. Question that points to hidden agendas, hidden identity, conspiracy, etc.

Is Patty just a narcissist friend who can stand to see her besty Erin alone and lonely?

    D. Character 1 is convinced/worried/wondering that Character 2 has done _____________.

Patty realizes that her fabulousness leaves Erin out of the mix and feeling alone and lonely.

    E. But maybe it is all wrong.

Patty is always around Erin, cheering her on, encouraging her through her loneliness. But is Erin for Patty who always brings her special brand of fabulousness. Things can’t be that good for Patty. Why doesn’t Erin see it?

    F. A Pattern that Leads to Future Consequences

Because Patty is always there for Erin, she can’t depend on Erin being there for her. Erin’s loneliness means Patty has to be THEE besty. Erin’s emptiness means Patty has to feed her. Make her happy. Don’t leave her. When does it end?

    G. If he does ________________, that means ___Intrigue_____.

If Patty forces Erin to find her own life then maybe Erin won’t depend on her so much and she can go on living the fabulous life.

    H. State the mystery.

Patty knows Erin inside and out, so she thinks. What’s really making Erin fat because it’s not about food.

    I. Should be/could be _______, but it is even worse.

Patty realizes that she can help Erin lose the weight. But that would mean she would lose her fashion muse. So convince her that her fat is good and Patty stays fabulous.

    J. Intense language.

Fuck friends, and family. Erin is a selfish foody.
