My name is Robert Russell Smith. Please call me Bob.

I have written dozens of comedy sketches and one act plays. I finished my first full length comedy, “Angels in Gangland” which I categorize as a Supernatural Gangster Comedy-drama. I had the play performed locally as a Zoom Production which was successful and well received. I am shopping the Stage Play and I have been working on a screen adaptation. I have a first draft almost complete.

What I hope to get from the class is knowledge and at least an early draft of a horror film. I’ve always wanted to write in that genre.Through the 30 Day Screenplay I am well along already in a horror script, i.e., characters and some story development. Working Title: The Toreph, singular for Teraphim, usually translated as ‘Houshold gods’ (Genesis 31). Which is a severed mummified head possessed by a demon, used in Biblical times for purposes of divination. This Toreph is deadly because it is possessed by Azazel, a desert demon in Jewish and Arabic mythology. It terrorizes the archaeologists who have discovered it. The mummified skull is that of an evil Biblical Character, the warrior Cushan Rishathaim (Judges 8), whose name means Cushan the Doubly-Evil.

I am a retired Episcopal Priest and as you can see, I am creating this horror film The Toreph, from Biblical subjects with a horrific dimension. I’ve always been interested in archaeology. I am a graduate of The American University in Cairo, Egypt, Class of 1970.

    Hi everyone!

My name is Jaye and I’m very happy to be part of this class.

I recently finished my fifth script and it feels good to keep the momentum going!

I look forward to elevating my current concept and writing an amazing horror spec! I am currently finishing up the ProSeries Class, and I can tell you that if you trust Hal and Cheryl, the process, and yourselves, breakthroughs will happen, and you will create something magical.

Something unique about myself, is that I like to make ASMR videos on YouTube.

I’m excited to be learning alongside all of you!

    Greetings everyone!

    1. My name is Robert Bertrand. My friends call me Rob.

    2. I’ve written 6 feature screenplays, and 2 short films. I’m most proud of my screenplay, The Skyway, which is based on the true story of DB Cooper.

    3. My favorite genre is horror/thriller, so I’m hoping to sharpen my skills, with a focus on better dialogue and unique characters.

    4. Something unique about me? I own an internationally famous Escape Room business called NW Escape Experience. We are famous for capturing a burglar. He broke in, got trapped inside and had to call 911 for help. The story went viral worldwide and culminated in being featured as a Jeopardy question with Alex Trebek.

A burgler got trapped in your escape room? That is bonkers and the best thing I’ve heard all day!

It was the best advertising I never had to pay for. Just google escape room burglar and you can read all about it. 🙂

Hello everyone, my name is Patrick Malone.

I have written 2 feature screenplays and a TV pilot. I am currently touching up the pilot and pitch bible that I created through Screenwriting U’s Binge Worthy course.

I seem to lean toward writing thrillers, so attacking a horror script is new for me. Since Hal said that smart horror films are in demand and are often an easier sell, I decided to give it a shot.

I have 3 concepts, but there is one I will most likely stick with for this course.

With Hal’s experience and insights, I hope to somewhat master the elements of horror and get inspired to create a great script. And have some fun along the way.

I have been a film editor for many years and have worked with some amazingly talented creative people.

    Hello!

My name is Pamela Raymond and this my first screenwriting course. I have never written a script but hopefully it’s like a riding a bike once I get one under my belt. I generally lean towards short stories in the mystery genre, but horror is my first passion.

My goal in taking this course is to challenge the way I approach characters, setting, and emotions in my writing. I think horror is the best genre for dialing up extremes and then you can take that, scale it back, and use those tools in other genres that are less bloody. I am excited to flex my creative muscles over the next month.

The only unique thing about me other than apparently having the gift of the Tarot, is I have an identical twin. And I’m originally from New Orleans. You do the math.

    Hi all,

My name is Tony McBride and I’m a features and television screenwriter specializing in “popcorn” movies with commercial appeal.

So far, I’ve written 6 scripts.

I am hoping to learn the structure and conventions of horror movie to learn to write quality horror scripts.

What’s unique about me is that some fool in the U.S. government actually thought it was a good idea to give me an officer’s commission (Geez).

    Hi Everyone!

My name is Michael Greco. I am located in Chicago, Illinois. I am excited and jacked about taking this class.

I have written two feature-length screenplays. The third is fully mapped and in process.

I love horror – especially smart horror, as defined in this class – and the ways that it both tells stories, reveals character and pulls in the audience emotionally. My objective is to develop structures or levers for creating horror films.

I think a lot of things are unique about me, but I just read about my fellow classmate who trapped the escape room burglar – unreal! I have to deal with sometimes horrific circumstances as a trial lawyer; I once represented a defendant accused of a grisly crime, who had a prior conviction for murder. The evidence in the grisly crime case I tried just did not establish guilt – the jury acquitted client within about one hour of beginning deliberation.

Greetings. Look forward to a great class. Best

    Name: Bob Kiely

    Scripts: Approx. one dozen.

Class Expectations: How to write a super and good selling horror script.

Personal Attributes: I generally write romcoms and inspirational family type scripts, so this is a real departure, but look at it as a challenge, and not unaware that with relatively little funds, a huge blockbuster can evolve. I like learning, and have a sales background. Love animals and have a couple scripts incorporating them as characters. Latest is an animations script “Bird’s of Brooklyn.”

Hi All: Responding a bit late as I traveled to see my elderly father and am a bit behind, but having a good time. I’m Debbie from Las Vegas, which is melting right now. I’ve written too many scripts to remember how many. I worked professionally in television for years and, after an illness, am just getting back into it.

I’m also a published horror writer and have written audio dramas for the original Dark Shadows. I love horror. I’m also in the bingeworthy class writing a horror pilot. This class is for my horror screenplay. I hope to learn new ways of looking at my work and building my scripts that will make it easier to find and correct the flaws.

I’m a double-lung transplant and own my own comic book publishing company. Our graphic novel, Mary Shelley Presents Tales of the Supernatural just won the Bram Stoker Award, which is the highest award in horror. Needless to say, I’m also getting ready to market that as an anthology series.

So that’s me. I look forward to reading about you.
