Hello all,
Iโm Bob Rowen, an 82-year-old disabled veteran, who is recovering from some health setbacks. These setbacks explain, at least in part, why I only have several โdraftsโ and no finished scripts. Iโm now climbing back onto the saddle, looking forward to being part of this class, and getting to know and learn from all of you. My goal for this class is to learn how to write an exciting and engaging profound screenplay. Finally, Iโm a nuclear whistleblower, a story too long to tell here, and a retired educator and school administrator.
-
Hi Bob,
I am Ginny, sorry, to read about your health. Your story sounds amazing.
Ginny
-
Hi Bob,
Thanks for being a veteran. So sorry about your health. Hopefully, the writing will be part of your healing. Sounds like you’ve got a good story in there!
-
Thank you for your service Bob. Keep positive on the health issues and best wishes there.
-
Hi Bob,
A nuclear whistle blower. I hope that’s the seed of your story! Can’t wait to hear what you got!

Hello all,
I’m Bill Southwell, 86 years old, learning to write a profound screenplay. I have no completed screenplays yet, but notes from over the years. I am a physicist and still working.
-
Sounds like you have a very intelligent script inside of you Bill. Looking forward to being in the group with you!
-
Bill, nice to meet you. I’m guessing you are living Winston Churchill’s quote “Never give up, never give up, never give up”. Stay in the game.

Hello. I am Patricia Carothers. I am currently working on a screenplay, have a partial one on hold, and have 3 books started. Right now I’m concentrating on finishing up the current screenplay. I hope to not only get new ideas about screenwriting, but also plan to get as much information and practice on creating an awesome screenplay. Hmmm…unique and strange? You might have to talk to my family for the “strange”, but I can say that I love horses, nature, and paint now in pastels.
-
Hi Patricia,
I am Ginny, you have a lot of business experience. I am currently also p/t book writing my own book ideas, as well as ghostwriting screenplays for work.
Like you I like art, I have become a published AI artist.
Ginny
-
Hi Ginny…this should be an awesome class. Just finishing Rewrite class which is pretty awesome. Still finding my way around this computer setup!
-
Meant to ask if you have your artwork on the web somewhere.
-
-
I love horses too, Patricia.
On the ‘creating an awesome screenplay’ front, I’m actually doing Hal’s Writing Incredible Movies course right now as well. I’ve just started, but even the intro’s fantastic.
-
Just learning how this system works. What kind of horses do you like best? I am just finishing the Rewrite class, which is excellent. Please let me know how you like your other class. I may take the Professional class but not right away. I have a very nice gray rescue cat…not a kitty anymore1

Hi Everyone,
My name is Susan Willard
I haven’t written any complete scripts yet, but do have many useful notes.
By the end of this course I am determined to be able to write a Profound Movie Script, from beginning to end.
Educated in Physics and Computer Science. Had two careers of being a Senior Quality Engineer cancelled. (Physically can’t do the work anymore.)
I am the co-inventor of the T-Rex (Titanic Remote Explorer), the deep underwater remote controlled vehicle with camera, for the 1998 Discovery Channel Titanic Expedition, as well as and expedition participant.
Patricia, I am also a creative arts person who loves nature, all types of animals, growing things and painting.
I am excited to be here with everyone.
-
Hi Susan,
Gosh, the T-Rex!! You’ve already changed people’s lives. I can only imagine the wealth of knowledge you have.
-
Hey Joanne,
Thank you for the kind words.
The real adventure is sharing what you know and helping people along their life’s journey.
I am looking forward to enjoying this class with everyone here.

Hi All,
My name is Joanne (Jo) Bellew. Very nice to meet you all. I have five completed scripts (four features and one TV).
I am always looking to sharpen my craft and thatโs what Iโm hoping to get out of this class.I have worked in the fields of spirituality, law and medicine. Oh, and I have an epileptic cat!
-
Hi Joanne,
What kinds of things have you done in the field of spirituality? I am a quantum hypnotherapist – which delves in the quantum realm though people’s subconscious ie., imagination, which is the language the higher self uses to communicate with us.
Looking forward to reading your ideas.
Andrea

Hello all, nice to be in this group with you.
I have not completed any screenplays yet. I am currently writing a novel and my LA “advisors” (just writer friends who I pitched to the book to) suggested that the concept was good, deep and should be a screenplay. Thus, you find me here. (I have one book of essays out – Practical Yoga’s Wisdom for Everyday People: Essays & Inspiration for Life) -a collection of personal growth essays originally published at SpritualityHealth.com via my partnership with them (2014-16.)
I am hoping I do not need experience writing a screenplay. I did create a reality TV show in 2004 – Guru2Go on FitTV/Discovery Comm) and wrote the treatment, produced, co-hosted to series, and of course wrote dialogue for each of the episodes, so at least a have a bit of experience.
Looking forward to hopefully getting deeper insights into my story line and applying this to the eventual screenplay.
…Oh…adding this – what is unique and strange about moi? I love questions like this…Hmmm…Ok here it goes: my left nipple is larger than my right.Discuss. Hope that is strange enough for you…but I do probably have stranger things I could share, but I’m shy, so someone else will need to lead the way lol.
Will

You had me at ‘my left nipple is larger than my right.’ Love it!
I do yoga several times a week, Will. Sounds like you’ve had some good industry experience. I think we should see more of your type of story on the TV. Looking forward to being in the group with you. ๐
-
Hi Joanne! thanks so much for the note and introduction. I appreciate you reaching out to say hello. Pleasure to meet you, and I am very excited to be on this new “profound” adventure along with you and the others in this group. I think the best parts will included the brilliance and perspectives of fellow writers.
๐

-
Will, keep up the work. The process of learning to write screenplays is similar to the Tranformation Journey we are learning right now.
-
Thanks James! It’s really a fun & powerful journey – and it feels like this is a great first step into the realm of screenplays…welcome to the group!

Hi everyone, my name is Karen Christine. Great to meet you all here.
I have worked in the film industry several years ago and took a “side-step” into the publishing world for more than 10 years, which fortunately turned out to be successful.
I have written about 40 books (series mainly) for children which have been published in 10 languages by Penguin Random House and others.
Each new book and contract is a great honor for me, and I am grateful every day.
In the past 8 years I have been the CEO of my own publishing house. Closed this company last year to concentrate on my writing and helping other authors and entrepreneurs to improve their writing and visibility.
I have written 3 scripts in my movie times back then. 1 was produced as a short.
My mother tongue is German, I am living and working in Germany and Tenerife/Canary Islands. I love to travel and learn languages.
Strange but maybe familiar if you are an Ocean person or know one:
I adore the Sea. Must have been a mermaid in former lives ๐ Thatยดs why I always seek to spend as much time as possible by the water like the Pacific Ocean or the Atlantic.
And maybe unusual: I experienced a divorce and have been practicing the nest model as we call it together with my ex-husband for more than 10 years now. Which means that our 2 kids (now teenagers) always stayed in their home, and I am staying one week together with them and then one week with my new love who lives 250 miles away. I am very grateful that this has worked so well as well.
Good luck to you all with this class ๐
PS: I will finish 2 other classes at SU next week, so I might be a little behind with the first lessons. I will keep up!
-
Hey Karen,
I think you’re in my other group. I’m just joining both now, so at the moment everyone is in one group in my mind – LOL. You have such an interesting and inspiring life. Very positive. I grew up on the ocean, so I completely understand the need to be close to water.
You are clearly a very capable writer. So happy to be on this journey with you. ๐
-
Hey Joanne,
thank you so much. So happy to be on this journey together with you in both classes ๐
All very best to you and your cat <3

Karen, nice to meet you. When I was in the Army (USA), I was stationed in Neu Ulm, FRG from 1971 -1974. I got to go to the Munich Olympics. Beautifu country.
-
James, thank you so much. So great to hear from you. I am glad you liked your time here ๐
Please, excuse my late response.
I have been on a long business travel to Munich (drove past the stadium), and finished some assignments in 2 other classes here at SU.
Looking forward to keeping up now with the lessons here.
Wishing you all my best for your project and your writing, many thanks again for reaching out.

Hi Everyone,
Nice to meet youโฆ
I am Ginny Monroe, I have been a professional ghostwriter: including adverts and scripts; on and off since I was 19 years old. I am currently working with another alumni, who I met in one of Hal’s classes years ago.
I am back in classes to refresh and upskill my screenplay writing.
Like many, I am a survivor of Covid-19. However, Covid-19 left me with a very disabling and debilitating condition, called Long Covid Syndrome. So, please forgive me if I do not take part as much as I would like.
Ginny๐๐๐
-
Hi Ginny,
I’m so sorry to hear about your Long Covid illness. I hope it improves very soon for you.
I’ve never met a professional ghostwriter before. That’s so interesting. Looking forward to doing the course with you. ๐
-
Ginny, hope you feel better soon. Covid is a weird disease. Been there.

Hi Susan,
I am Ginny.
BIG WOW to you from me for

Hi Ginny,
thank you so much. Great to have you in the group.
I think itยดs a fantastic group. So happy to see and feel all of you here.
I am so with you on continuing learning and refreshing our skills … itยดs so wonderful and rewarding.
My partner and his children (both grown up) are survivors of Covid-19, too. He and his daughter are still working on their condition … So I totally understand you.
All my very best to your health and strength! Just take your time here.

Hi everyone. I’m Kate Gleeson. I haven’t written any scripts before. Have a stack of notes and ideas that I’ve been dragging around for years and finally want to do something. I’m hoping this class will light a fire under me and get me to work on one of these ideas. When I was in my early 20s I lived with a bunch of hippies in the Australian bush–totally off the grid with no running water or electricity.
-
Hi! I’m Mary Godwin. I’ve written 2 scripts – packed firmly away in a drawer. I’m currently working on a novel (Think Fried Green Tomatoes meets Bridges of Madison County) and wanted to give it some extra “profound” punch when I found this class. My novel is called “My Own Blue Ridge”.
I’m a retired Microbiologist from Mayo Clinic. I went back to work in 2019 in a free standing ER when Covid hit. From here on out, I want to spend the rest of my days writing.
-
Hi! My name is Andrea. I first took Hal’s Pro Series class about 20 years ago.
I have written about 3 scripts since then – one which has turned into a graphic novel which I write and illustrate. I also wrote a TV pilot for a series that has transformed into a YouTube channel I call Day Trips out of the box – which I also script, film, edit and post on YouTube.
3. My hopes for the class?
(background) I conceived of this character and idea back when I wrote the TV pilot – also called Day Trips out of the Box (2006). The notion was looking at this character from a multidimensional point of view and watch her grow from being a basically unaware, unconscious girl who is abruptly faced with her shadow side (a separate character) and forced to learn who she is on a deeper level. I began writing the movie version of this three years ago (2020)- then it went on the back burner when I started writing my graphic novel, learning quantum hypnosis (QHHT) and then the YouTube channel last year.
Long story short – I have since gained valuable information, clarity and perspective. My bandwidth has grown so much from all this extra curricular work. Now is the time to write this story- which I started 4 months ago. Then, I watched Hal’s infomercial this second time and literally cried. I knew it was time to do this – and with Hal’s incredible insights – to do this the right way!
I hope for much sorely needed mentorship, guidance, wisdom, insight, structure and feedback. It would be awesome if I could connect with likeminded souls here who might “get it” and reciprocate encouragement.
4. Something unique? I am an INFJ personality type. What’s that? It’s the one of the rarest of the 16 personality types according to Myers-Briggs Personality test. It stands for Introverted Intuitive Feeling Judging – and why is this relevant? INFJs of all the personality types are the ones who look for profound meaning and purpose in everything. They feel they are here to help humanity – even though they have difficulty being around many humans. lol. ๐
This class – this mission to write this profound movie – is what INFJs live for.
It’s what my YouTube channel is used for – to help people break free from their conditioned minds and limiting beliefs – to realize the best version of themselves…
and I use Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique – QHHT to take people beyond their conscious “conditioned” mind to the subconscious where their deepest memories and imagination rule.
Sorry if this is long….but my journey has been very long. I’m now 58 and am finally ready. Let’s do this!!
Can’t wait to meet you all and see what kinds of profound stories you need to tell ๐.

Hello Everyone,
I’ve written a great number of feature screenplays in addition a three books of poetry, two books of short stories and a novel. I am currently finishing my 7th Ross Monroe screenplay about a burned out criminal lawyer in East Vancouver. Monroe was a cop for 20 years and for the final 12 he worked special crimes (murder, kidnapping and armed robbery) before taking early retirement. His then partner, Lee Sing, is now the Vancouver chief of police. Another member of the unit (Abe (Ace) Greenberg) also took early retirement and works as Monroe’s investigator.
Monroe did three years of law school in two years and has been called for 20 years. His current goal is to get out of the cesspool he is working and living in and retire to his 40 acre lot in a rural area.
In the 7th script (Scorched Earth) Frank Donaldson’s house burns down and the insurance company offers him 50% of the value of his house because they are big and powerful and he is destitute and desperate. He turns to Monroe for help because Monroe is the only one who will take the case on a contingency basis. Not only are Frank and Monroe battling a billion dollar a year corporation, but Empire GTA Insurance has access to the brightest and slickest lawyers money can buy. The lawyers proceed to use scorched earth legal tactics on Monroe. To make a long story short, the case goes all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada where eight out of nine judges side with Monroe and make the largest award for punitive damages in Canadian history.
Monroe’s flaw, such as it is, is that he thinks like a cop, not like a lawyer. In order to win the case he has to learn a new way of operating, a new way of thinking. This is where I am as the course on the profound screenplay opens.
I also have another project (half completed) about a British general who few have heard of who changed the course of modern history and whose legacy reverberates to this day. This is the next screenplay and I realize it needs to be more profound even though the facts of what happened are mind-boggling.
-
Hello to this fine group – John T here, been with Hal’s inspirational instruction for several years – wormed my way through several of his courses to pro then master then WIM. Now that I’m newly retired (and have actually hired on with a first-time producer), I can delve deeper into craft-honing insights – the learning never stops!
-
Hello everyone,
I’m not sure that if this is the right place for me. English is not my first language, so please forgive my horrible grammar mistakes.
When I was 12, Les Miserable turned me upside down. It had a great impact on my development. I wanted to become a storyteller that promotes humanity and explores human psychology.
My desire to become a writer and director pushed me far beyond what I imagined 20ish years ago, when I wrote and directed my first theatre piece at University in GuangZhou-China.
I have written and directed seven short fictions and one feature documentary. I optioned one feature fiction and now it’s in development with Telefilm fund; and my second feature fiction script was completed last year and now in re-writing phrase. I have ideas for the third feature fiction but do not have time to pour it out yet.
When I write my script, if the story can’t ache my heart and make me tear, I know the script is not ready. I has to be the first victim of my own art. LOL.
Writing a profound screenplay is absolutely what I’m doing and what I love to do.
Thanks everyone.

Wowza Susan! I watched that Titanic dive and loved it, although I wished it had been longer or had more editions. Because of that film, I went to my city’s Discovery Center, which had a 4 room presentation with some actual artifacts and a lot of information. I loved it. How wonderful for you to actually go there. I love nature too. Lately I’ve been fascinated by clouds and with our weather we have had plenty of chances to take pics. Of course, I have had to take pics of my apple tree that is blooming. And the color yellow on anything reaches my inner soul. Your life sounds pretty amazing and am sorry to hear that you have difficulties with an issue.
-
Still working!! Amazing. You must be an extraordinary person, Bill, and I wish you success on your profound movie lessons. Never give up! I am working on my screenplay – unfinished – but getting closer with the goal. The rewrite class I’m just finishing up is incredible for development when you get further along.
-
Thank you for your service. I will put you on my prayer list if you agree. Please keep writing your screenplay. It will be exciting to watch how it develops. Sometimes I get busy with keeping up on my own writing…am currently in the Rewrite class and at least 3 lessons behind. Hope to catch up this weekend. Read somewhere that if a person writes for 6 or 7 hours a day on their screenplay, the draft can be done in 15 days, with about 10 drafts after that to polish it up! hmmmm…
-
Hey Karen, I’m not an ocean person as I am a landlubber…but I love the water – ocean, lakes, rivers, ponds, and rain. I love that you may be a former mermaid! Hoping you can keep such a busy schedule and a long-distance all going at the same time. Sounds like it…You must be the Queen of organizationl…which I am Not! I love languages too and have studied several, but only know English well. Idaho is – or rather has been – a not multi-language experence, but it is lovely and the nature part is sweet (don’t tell anyone). Lots of nice lakes.
-
Hey Patricia, thank you so much for reaching out ๐ And my apologies for responding so lately … Talking about organization ๐
I have been on a business travel for a week, and finished some assignments in another class here at SU. After that my pillow was calling …
It sounds lovely what you write about Idaho. Wonยดt tell anyone!
Good luck with your writing, and have a wonderful rest of the week <3
And many thanks again for your lovely email!

Paulette L. Harris
Six scripts
Fine-tune and re-write what I have finished
A better way to write. Hal makes the difficult process of script writing and re-writes much easier to understand and apply.
I am an accomplished writer/novelist who loves to write most different genres but love writing scripts the most. I’ve converted my novels into screenplays. I love to research and learn. I also enjoy challenges and am signed up for Surviving Producers notes, I understand the need for them and agree with what Hal has introduced us to on his recording. I want to be able to respond and work well with them.
I’ve gotten off to a slow start but am trying to catch up so I can get in line with the next class on Surviving Producers notes.
Some unusual aspects about me…I am a United States Air Force Veteran who recently lost her Air Force Veteran to the horrors of war, that’s a big part of my being so far behind with ScreenwritingU but every day gets better.
I love horses, my first novel is about a Peruvian Paso, golf, cats, humans (most of the time)! ๐
I have written, directed, and produced a “short” and won an Evangelista award in “168” with a team. It was a contest to begin with so we were pumped that it got an award. It was written, directed, and produced by all of us.

Kate…it sounds like you have led an interesting life. I’ve often thought about how great if would be to go to Australia…still do, because of the movies about down under! Until I saw a National Geo magazine that had a picture of an Aboriginal’s feet and read that they all go barefoot from birth onwards. I just said “ouch.” I would still like to go though. Does your screenplay have some of this Aussie stuff in it?
I love the title of your Screenplay “My Own Blue Ridge.” Great title! Makes me want to read it.
-
Hi everyone. I’m James E. Clark. But I go by Jim.
I’ve written five screenplays. One has earned multiple awards at film festivals and writing competitions. I have one that will be ready for film festivals and pitching within the next month. I have two more behind that one that are ready for rewrites and elelvation and I have several concepts that I can start to develop.
I hope to get stronger skills in developing and elevating concepts and stories.
Unique and special: I adore my wife of 46 years, our three kids and our six grandkidlets. They are my joy. In my youth I was a competetive archer and I’ve been know to play the bagpipes in the past. Prior to retirement I was in hospital adiministration.
