    1. Name? Mary J. Andrews

    2. I have one script still in rewrite surgery but may change my starting point and work a second one up at this class.

    3. What you hope to get out of the class?

Insider knowledge and instruction to help me successfully turn my five book Paranormal Sci Fi series into a Netflix series. And do it well enough to write book to film scripts.

    4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you?
I am the fourth director of a long-lived writer’s group in Lubbock TX since 2012, and ages ago,
I almost ran over Frank Herbert (Dune) in a Texas Tech parking lot on my way to meet him after his lecture. Yeah, he recognized me right away– so I asked for an interview, and got it. Go figure, huh?

I look forward to working with all of you, too!

      3. What you hope to get out of the class? I hope to learn as much as I can about binge worthy TV shows and create one.

      4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you? I’m a therapist and a teacher.

We look forward to working with you all!

    2. How many scripts you’ve written? I’ve written about 20 scripts, mostly features though

    3. What you hope to get out of the class? I’d like to learn how to transition from feature writing to bingeworthy TV writing

    4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you? Always marching to the beat of a different drum, I’m the only member of my family whose favorite color is not blue. I also had a screenplay I worked on as a paid assignment mentioned favorably in Script magazine. I’m also the father of a non-neurotypical son who is the love of my life, and who from time to time gives me incredible inspiration and dialogue lines that he allows me to use.

    Hi all!

My name is Kim, and I’m the author of four young adult novels, working on several more. As for scripts, I’ve completed seven screenplays (two, both cowritten with friends, were optioned but went nowhere) and three stage plays (one of which was produced on the college stage, the other two on the high school stage). To be honest, I’m hoping to write something that will sell to a mainstream market and I’m feeling optimistic that this class will give me the knowledge (and maybe even the confidence!) to do that. Even though I’ve written plays/screenplays, they aren’t at the high-concept/page-turning level they need to be in order to find an agent and producer. I’m starting a new job in a week or so, so this is going to be the perfect lesson on time management as well. One unique quality of mine is my ability to get people to spill their guts to me. I acquired this skill after being horribly bullied while growing up and realizing the world is a much better place when people take the time to listen to one another. And for me, it also conjures up characters and plots for my stories. 🙂 I look forward to writing and sharing with all of you.

    2. I’ve written 2 feature scripts.

    3. I hope to learn the art of tv series writing of the serial persuasion. My background is feature screenplays, so I’m hoping to learn the craft and this class seemed like a great avenue to explore that.

    4. I always have ideas for projects floating around my head. The most I usually do is jot all my notes down, but actually carving out outlines/writing has been hard. I’ve got kids, and I’m always finding excuses not to write. I think this class will help me in the productivity department. I have a high concept idea for my tv series and all the elements of this class will help me organize and write it.

Hi everyone, I’m Phyllis Strong. I’ve written six spec scripts for existing tv shows and eight spec pilots and one feature. I hope to get a thorough education into how to make my series more obsessive and full of intrigue, and I hope the boot camp will make me accountable to keep moving forward. I was chosen for a commercial when I was 3 years old, but I’ve never been an early riser, and we had to get up early to go to New York City. I was so grumpy that I wouldn’t follow directions and they had to replace me. And thus ended my commercial acting career before it began. I find myself much more comfortable behind the camera.

Hi Phyllis, I was wondering what TV shows and were they optioned or produced? I was also wondering if you or anyone else has insight into writing a spec for an existing show still in production or do you write a spec for a show that wrapped-up years earlier and use it as an example of your work?

      • Phyllis Strong

Hi Herbert, none of my spec pilots sold but they were good samples that got me representation and meetings. I pitched a show, about young women coming of age on Wall Street in the 1980’s, and that was bought by Bravo when they were dipping a toe in scripted. So I got paid to write the pilot but it was not picked up.

Conventional wisdom is that you should write a spec script of an existing show that is 1) currently on the air; and 2) a darling of the executive and producer community. That’s mostly Emmy nominees and other critical darlings. Those have the best chance of being known to people you submit to.

        Hope that helps…

Thanks for the info on specs….it is helpful. Rather than writing an episode of Breaking Bad or The Sopranos, I should focus on a hit show that is in the first or second season. Sorry your pilot didn’t get picked-up but at least you were paid to write the it. I would have watched it. Speaking of Wall Street, I wrote a Period Drama and one of the main characters is JP Morgan Jr. AMC was excited and read the pilot and series bible but they passed on it. I made a promotional video for the series and posted the link below. Bear in mind, I had no budget to make it so it’s very basic.

          Best Regards,

    Greetings all,

My name is Marcus Shamburger and I’ve written 2 scripts in the comedy genre but there’s an energy pulling me to wanting to write dramas.

<font face=”inherit”>I’m hoping to gain the tools and thought process of exactly what this class is about. Creating binge worthy tv. I also would like to walk away with a script that checks the boxes of what showrunners and producers are looking for in a writer and </font>potentially<font face=”inherit”> be hired for a writer’s room. </font>

<font face=”inherit”>I don’t know if it would be considered unique or special but I’m </font>analytical. What could be considered unusual is I like to people watch. Whether it be a restaurant or shopping center I’ll watch people and crate stories in my head. I guess that’s part of being analytical.

    <font face=”inherit”>Anywho. I’m happy to be </font>here<font face=”inherit”> and look forward to learning. </font>

    2. How many scripts you’ve written?
    I’ve written about 4 scripts

    3. What you hope to get out of the class?
I want to help develop the entertainment side of a mentoring brand I’ve created for guys called CENTRY where our core mission is to inspire and teach guys to Serve, Honor & Protect. I’ve written several books and stuff that share these concepts, so now I want to create a series that can draw people to use and help them connect with our additional content.

    4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you?
I’ve had many dreams that I’ve written down over the years that I thought was God giving me movie ideas. I’m not saying He’s not; I just don’t understand them all! LOL!

I had one a few days ago. Wanna hear about it? Ok, here we go, it went something like this:

“I was somewhere with a guy who pulled an ironman suit out of his car trunk after he parked in the middle of the street. (However, it wasn’t the full Ironman suit, it was only the breastplate portion.) The guy told me to put it on and say, “I have the power of Iron man!!!” I said, “Ok, coolness!” So, I put it on, standing in the middle of the street and screamed, “I have the power of Aquaman!” The guy looked at me and said, “That’s not what I told you to say.” I looked back at him and said, “I know. I don’t know why I said that.”

Then I woke up and laughed!

Just in case you wanna ask, I did not watch “Avengers: Infinity War” or any Mavel flick before going to bed! LOL!

    4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you? I’m a professor and an actor. I have two rescue dogs. One is a retired therapy dog. Hospice, cancer wards, Alzheimers/Dementia facilities, children’s reading programs. She was the Beyonce of Therapy dogs. She’s featured in 2 books, a video and has her own trading cards. The other is a stubborn, spicy meatball that is currently failing dog obedience training. But he’ll sit at my feet for hours. And he’s a looker. It’s like walking down the street with Chris Hemsworth. People literally catcall. He’s got quite the strut.

Never written a script, just notebooks upon notebooks of show and movie ideas all still dancing around in my head.

I hope to have a finished product by the time this class ends in August 🙂

Ahnee is derived from ON’E, which is Hebrew for I AM, my mom used the English phonetics ‘Ah-Nee’ which I did not appreciate until in my 30’s, also meaning ‘graceful’ and ‘beautiful’. That’s her story, and I’ve ran with it my entire life.

And, my middle name is pronounced ‘Ri-Kell’ which I’ve explained my whole life because people pronounce it nickel (5 cent piece). I even spent a few years changing the spelling to ‘Rickelle’ to help people out…silly me.

I AM here today by the grace and love of God

    1. Hi, I’m Marcus Wolf.

    2. I’ve written about 15 feature screenplays, a feature length stage play and bunches of short films and stage plays. And I wrote a pilot with a bible.

    3. The pilot I wrote was originally going to be a screenplay, but I realized I’d never get the job done in 1.5 to 2 hours. So I want to turn it into a show.

    4. I’m an indie filmmaker and I’ve made quite a number of short films which went into film festivals. I really want to make a feature film, so that’s in the plans. For years, I thought history was a boring subject. Then I read a couple of historians who wrote it in the style of fiction. I realized that some of the most interesting stories out there actually happened. And I have one to tell. (At least.)

    3. What I hope to get out of this class is an intriguing, saleable series.

    4. Depending on who you ask, there are many unique, strange or unusual things about me. ONe of them is when I traveled up the Amazon River, on an old wooden boat, and trekked deep into the jungle. There I met a medicine woman who wanted my sun hat. Without speaking each other’s language, I traded it for the poison dart blower gun she was holding.

    1. Name?

    David Thome

    2. How many scripts you’ve written?

My wife Mary Jo and I have written 22 screenplays, four of which were optioned several years ago. We took some time off, and I turned to novels and novellas, some of which appeared on Amazon Top 100 lists for a while.
We recently turned back to screenplays by writing two Hallmark-style Christmas scripts and reviving a big-budget sci-fi script that has advanced in a few contests.

After I took the free version of the Binge Worthy TV class, Mary Jo and I wrote a pilot for a comedic animated supernatural TV show that also has advanced in a couple of contests. It’s based on one of my novella series.

    3. What you hope to get out of the class?

The free version gave me a good base for writing a pilot, but this course goes much deeper and includes lessons in how to present a pilot to people who can get them made (or at least optioned). Marketing is different now than when Mary Jo and I were getting scripts to agents and producers (three of our screenplays were within one “yes” of being made). Apparently no one cold-calls agents and producers any more. Or maybe they do, if they know what they’re doing.

    4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you?

The idea I plan to work on here has a male lead. Since 2010, I’ve written five novels and three novellas and, with my co-writer, added two full-length screenplays, changed the hero of one old screenplay from a man to a woman and completed a TV pilot, all of which have female leads. I love writing female leads; they’re way more interesting than male leads. I don’t even know if I’m capable of writing a male lead any more.

Hi Group! My name is Bruce Gibeson. I took the ProSeries in 2018.

    I’ve written four feature scripts.

I love the Binge Worthy concept and want to learn the tools and techniques to get there.

Something unique, special, strange or unusual about me? I had a 20 year career as a set decorator, working in television and features; on the road a lot. Scripts used to arrive at the production meeting, before a new episode was shot or prior to the deal memo being signed. Somebody had to write them, right? When my son was born, I switched paths to be home every night.

We left Southern California, moved to Washington DC, and started a video production company producing content for DARPA, the people who created all the technology that rules our world today. (Probably 500 more scripts all 5 minutes or less) I knew Siri when her name was CALO; the “Cognitive Assistant that Learns and Organizes.”

Hi Bruce, I was just thinking last week about how cool it would be to have a job as a set designer for the movies. I’ve worked on theater sets back in my college days, but that is so much simpler and only has a teensy budget. I’d make bets you’re good with characters, since you had to understand the psychology of the people in order to design a set mirroring their tastes. 🙂

        Hi Kim!

Yep. It was fun. I had the opportunity to work with some great writers too. I worked two seasons with Stephen Bochco and his crew on Hill Street Blues and his minor league baseball series, Bay City Blues. Then I did the permanent sets for LA Law before leaving for No Way Out. One and a half Stephen King movies, Sleepwalkers and Apt Pupil.

I’m not sure I’m good writing character, but I do try to be pretty detailed about the environments where my characters live. Thanks for the reply!

        Good luck!

    Hi. My name is Bob.

I have written seven spec screenplays and a dozen or so episodic spec teleplays. Most of these were written a decade or more ago for shows like Law & Order and The West Wing. Some of these placed well and even won a couple of contests.

I plan on using this course to rework a spec screenplay I wrote years ago into a serial TV show using the old screenplay as source material.

At one point, my wife and I spent four years bi-coastal living between CA and NY, accumulating more than 2 million air miles each.

I’ve also co-written a television series adapted from my one-woman show, which is being shopped around at the moment. Something unique about me is I co-created the series while pregnant with my best friend who was also pregnant, so we met and wrote between nausea and naps 🙂

Hi Everyone, I’m Darlene Elsbury but in the group feed, I may appear as Hollidar.

I’m a little late to the binge worthy party because while class started this week, a serious accident forced my son-in-law to be hospitalized and bedridden until knee surgery that, hopefully, will spare his leg and future mobility. My daughter, as a new mom, needed help with the baby while she adapted to being a full-time caregiver for her husband now, too.

    2. I’ve written three feature scripts with the help of Screenwriting U (two dramas, one a buddy comedy), one TV pilot (also a comedy), and have three biopic projects in-progress (two of which have the potential of being binge worthy as a series).

    3. What you hope to get out of the class? A TV series that’s binge worthy and produced.

    4. Something unusual about me?

I live and sleep with horses. Not champion horses, but rather rescued horses, injured horses, retirees, or what some might consider “high maintenance junk” or “lawn ornaments” and therefore would promptly euthanize them as if they have no worth or value. To me, they have therapeutic value and they’re family. I purchased my first horse in 2005, an injured/retired racehorse who chose me and changed my life forever. One of my scripts is about horse racing and racehorses, inspired by my first mare and my father.

I’m an extraordinarily persistent salesperson and with strong relationship building skills – there are few doors, if any, that I can’t (eventually) get my foot into. I’m a vegan, a supporter of many animal protection causes/organizations, an impassioned Grateful Dead fan, a serious small batch coffee brewer/drinker and a Red Burgundy Wine Enthusiast.

    2. I wrote 2 scripts + a writing assignment (feature) and 2 stage plays in French and 4 features in English. (2 of them I am thinking of rewriting now with my knowledge gained with Hal at MSC14).

    3. I’d like to learn how to transition from feature writing to bingeworthy writing.

    4. I am a French native living in New Zealand (for 24 years). My brain works in French, my thoughts, actions, reactions are European and I live my everyday life in a Pacific Island with a British mentality meanwhile I watch American movies and series everyday!!!!!

Hi Marie. So ironic, I’m an American but I have been in love with French culture since I was in high school (and took French as a language) and have dreamed of visiting France one day. And I love British movies and shows! Although I used Closed Captions because the accent can be tricky for me at times. I especially love British humor. So quick and quirky.

    1. Name?

My name is Carl Maronich. My friends call me Carl. Actually, most of my friends call me collect. (Remember when that was a thing?)

    2. How many scripts you’ve written?

I have written three full-length plays and many short plays. Have had a few short plays produced. This is my first foray into TV/screenwriting.

    3. What you hope to get out of the class?

Better understanding of how to write for TV and the tools to be successful at it, with a chance to get something made.

    4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you?

I can juggle a basketball, a baseball and a vitamin pill. At one time, in the not-too-distant past, I could recite every line to the film The Natural. “Max was right. You’re just a mystery.”

    Introducing Myself

    1. Lilliana Cabal

    2. I’ve never written a script before, so this is very new and daunting to me.

    3. I’ve had this tv series in mind for about 18 years now and was looking for a way to finally get it on paper within some orderly and engaging way. I was looking for something that would take me step by step in the process as I’ve never written a script before. I’d met with someone who took me through the steps of getting a bible together and felt terribly overwhelmed afterwards. So my hope is to have a central operating system and an easy to follow program in order to create a substantial outline and have a pilot written out. I would then like to pitch it and get professional writers to clean it up properly.

    4. I’m an American actress now living in Barcelona. I took a break from acting to rethink what and how I wanted to do things. I ended up traveling around the world with a life and work experience which introduced me to a whole new industry which pushed many ethical boundaries and had me deal with a sub world of international politics and corruption. It changed my perspective of how global politics and business operate. It also invited me to reflect on the roles and power that we have as women in our day-to-day and as professionals and how that has changed in the past 20 years and how some things seem like they’ve changed when in reality they are quite the same. This forms a significant part of the story I would like to share.

    INT. SCREENWRITING FORUM – DAY

The ADMINISTRATOR, posts an assignment to the GROUP MEMBERS. For some reason the forum feels like an AA meeting, almost like therapy. JOAQUIN GRAY A.K.A IBN GRAY sits at his desk pondering the questions. THE VOICE IN IBN GRAY’S HEAD blurts out.

THE VOICE IN IBN GRAY’S HEAD

    Are you sure you?

Joaquin Gray scratches his head maintaining a reserved look upon his face.

    JOAQUIN

    Hhhhhmmmm!

THE VOICE IN IBN GRAY’S HEAD (V.O)

Don’t over think it! You’ve got four questions.

    JOAQUIN (reserved)

    Let’s see. What if I…

THE VOICE IN IBN GRAY’S HEAD (V.O)

What if you just answer the questions?

    JOAQUIN

Hi everyone. My name is Joaquin Gray A.K.A Ibn Gray.

A few group members chime. “Hi, hello.”

    GROUP MEMBER #1

    Hi Joaquin.

THE VOICE IN IBN GRAY’S HEAD (V.O)

    There’s always one.

    Joaquin smiles.

    JOAQUIN

I started writing screenplays two years ago. If you count all of the drafts, rewrites, you know. I’ve written over let’s say 75 scripts.

THE VOICE IN IBN GRAY’S HEAD (V.0)

    Who cares about rewrites?

    JOAQUIN

Well I only copywrote, copywrite. I have three copywritten.

What do I hope to get out of this class?

THE VOICE IN IBN GRAY’S HEAD (V.0)

TELL ‘EM THE TRUTH. YOU’RE IN IT FOR THE MONEY.

    GROUP MEMBER #2

I’m here for the BIG BUCKS.

The group members laugh. The administrator clears their throat.

    Fantastic Joaquin. Alright…

    GROUP MEMBER #1

You forgot something unique, something special about yourself.

    JOAQUIN

Oh, yeah. Thanks. I’m a writer and we are special unique people.

THE VOICE IN IBN GRAY’S HEAD (V.O)

You just had to make a scene.

    ADMINISTRATOR

True indeed. Alright everyone let’s turn our attention to…

Joaquin sits at his desk fingers on his keyboard, smiling.

    JOAQUIN (V.0)

    Should I hit post?

    Greetings, Dorothea Bonneau here.

I’ve written five screenplays (two optioned) and 22 stage plays.

I’d love to create a series based on my novel, Once in a Blood Moon inspired by the African Slaves who helped my ancestor, a ten-year-old indentured servant, to escape from the slave quaters.

I’ve had the great fortune to be the mother of seven sons.

My writing partner and wife, Mary Jo, and I have written more than 20 screenplays, including four that were optioned a few years ago.

The old way of breaking into the biz was to write spec scripts and pitch them to producers and agents. I had some success with that, but that is no longer the model. I took the pared-down version of the Binge TV class to write a pilot of a show based on some comedic supernatural novellas that I sold on Amazon a few years ago, but I wanted a deeper dive and insight into how to market this material. For the class, I’m going to create a show that’s darker and more sci-fi.

Something special? Michelle Phillips was once attached to star in a family-oriented comedy spec I wrote that got to within one person of a greenlight not once, not twice, but three times.

    1) Mark Lederkramer friends call me Kramer

    2) I have a treatment that I need to turn into a great script and create a great pitch bible

    3) I want to have my project ready to effectively pitch and sell and get produced. I hope to network with other writers, directors, and producers

    4) I am originally from Brooklyn, New York. I moved to LA 37 years ago after walking over fire with Tony Robbins before anybody knew who he was. I came here to act but now I just need to get my story written, sold, produced, and on TV

I look forward to getting to know you all of you
