I’m glad you’ve joined us for the class.

    Tell us the following:

    1. Name?

    2. How many scripts you’ve written?

    3. What you hope to get out of the class?

    4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you?

We look forward to working with you all!

Hi, I’m Julie Nichols. I’ve completed three scripts but took a break to work on a novel for a couple of years. I hope this class will help me get back into writing screenplays. I would like to write a commercially viable spec that can both stand on its own and do double duty as a writing sample for another project. I wrote my first book-to-stage adaptation when I was sixteen, and it’s one of my greatest dreams to see one my adaptations produced. Looking forward to the class! Julie

Hi, Julie! You said you were working on a novel for a couple of years. Did you have it published (traditionally or self-published)? Just curious. 🙂

      Happy writing!

Hi, Arial! Thanks for asking. I’m still work on the novel and plan to self-publish. I’ve really enjoyed learning about the self-publication process while cranking out the novel. Hopefully I’ll have it finished and out by the end of this year.

        Happy writing to you, too!

I’m Terry Drayer, a huge fan of the ScreenwritingU classes for many years. I’ve completed 7 scripts for both film and television, and written dozens of incomplete scripts – again for both film and television. What I hope to get out of this class is the jolt I need to finish the unfinished scripts and polish the finished ones so at least one of them sells in 2022. I am an avid gardener and am currently growing 4 coffee bushes in my orchid greenhouse. Looking forward to a cup of coffee from my very own beans.

Hi, I am Bob Rowen. I’m very much looking forward to this class and working with everyone. I’m an 81 year-old retired teacher and school administrator at the high school and community college levels. Prior to becoming an educator, I served four years in the Marine Corps followed by six years in private industry as a nuclear control technician. I have started several screenplays but never finished any of them to my satisfaction. I have pretty much recovered from my surgery last November and now ready to finish what I have started many times. Something about me that’s unique, special, strange, or unusual? I blew the whistle on the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission and the operators of the first commercial boiling reactor west of the Mississippi.

Hi, Bob! From one veteran to another, thank you for your service! I’m sure we can all relate to finishing something we write to our satisfaction, but I hope this class helps you feel better about the end result. Don’t be too hard on yourself, though. 😉

      Happy writing!

Hi, Arial! I see you’ve self-published several novels I’ve self-published just one but working on a couple of other projects. The script I’m writing for this class is inspired by the events covered in my non-fiction novel. And thank you for your service. What branch? The reason I mentioned my service in my intro is because it underlies the storyline of my script. Check with you later…

Hi, all! I’m Keri Lee. I’ve completed three features. Something unusual (but great from a writing perspective): I moved a lot growing up (8 schools in 12 years) and have had more jobs than I can count, starting at age 11 selling donuts door-to-door for a guy who loaded a white windowless van with fifth graders, dropped us off in sketchy neighborhoods (no child-labor police?) and paid us 10 cents for every bag we sold. I lasted two Saturdays as the van had no seats and sliding around + smell of gluten made me seriously car sick.

Hello, Keri! We have similar backgrounds and I feel the same way you do – moving around a lot gives you a lot of different experiences. Good fodder for writing! LOL about the white windowless van with 5th graders.

      Happy writing!

        Hey Arial!

I love your stories (personal & Count rewrite) & though I’m one of the dread category 3 writers (totally rethinking my idea, so not yet done) and thus don’t have access to the swap-feedback page, I’d love to stay in touch & read your draft if you’re into it.

My email is keri2424@gmail.com, so lmk if you want to stay in touch (and same is true for anyone else is reading this!)

And lest I seem too big a flake in this class (I’ll own that), my website is http://www.keri-lee.com & has info on the screenplays I actually have finished :)))

Either way: wishing you the best of luck with this project & all things!

Hello everyone. My name is Natalia and I am glad to be in this class. I have written a couple of dozens short scripts, and made a little over a dozen of them into short films. I have a very short attention span and have trouble writing long. I hope this class will help me concentrate and develop self-discipline to write a feature length script, and also develop the skill of working consistently. I can’t think of anything unique about myself, I am a pretty ordinary person.

Hi, Natalia! Based on your comments about your short attention span, I think you are definitely in the “write” place. Being a novelist and turning to screenplays, writing short is most certainly in the world of screenwriting. There’s so much you CAN’T write in a screenplay, it’s sure to keep you interested and on your toes! Good luck with the class!

      Happy writing!

    Hello!

My pen name is Arial Burnz and I’m an author of over twelve novels. Although I didn’t write my first script until just three years ago, I’ve been a writer since I could pick up a crayon and tell stories with pictures. I’ve written three scripts – two short films based on my own short stories, and a one-hour TV pilot.

This course was recommended to me by a fellow screenwriter when I asked, “What’s a good online class that will teach me the basics about screenwriting format so I can be sure I have that nailed?” I’ve read a ton of books, but I wanted to be able to interact with someone when I had questions. So here I am.

Also, I have an idea for a feature film that I hope I can knock out in this class and have a finished script by the end of the 30-day course. Looking forward to that and to interacting with all of you!

As for what’s unique, special, strange or unusual about me? A LOT, but I guess I gotta pick one. I’m a US Air Force veteran and I served during Desert Storm. Spent 6 months in Turkey and was deployed the day before Desert Shield began and came home after I volunteered to help clean up during Operation Provide Comfort. While in the military, I lived in Germany for 3.5 years and England for 2.5 years, and boy do I miss Europe!

Fun Fact: My dad was a screenwriter and an actor and you might have seen him! He’s been in the following movies: Raging Bull, Stripes, The Enforcer (Dirty Harry movie), an episode of Charlie’s Angels titled “Bullseye” (yeah, the show in the 70s), and he was almost a regular on Hill Street Blues.

Looking forward to the class and the end of the month! Cheers!

    Hi,

I’m Kathleen Martin and I’ve written about 5 scripts but need to finish them. I’m hoping to get them finished so I can market them.

I’m currently working on a script that is based on a true story about saving a beloved Ice Rink in my State of Washington. I’m bringing characters into and using “The Cutting Edge” as a comp. My State of Washington has a Motion Picture Competitive Program and I mentioned it to my local Lawmakers. They are in favor of it and I would like it filmed here since it is based on a true story. I’m hoping to finish the script in this class so I can take it to WashingtonFilmworks.

My day job is working as a Substitute Teacher and I need to work on my Time Management.

And if you’re interested in time management techniques, I HIGHLY recommend you read Seven Habits for Highly Effective People. That is…if you were serious about your time management statement. Maybe you were just nodding to the timing of your assignment hand-in. LOL

Looking forward to interacting with everyone.

Hello, everyone I’m Robert Springfield, Rob is my nickname. I am really looking forward to interacting with all of you. I’ve written three screenplays and a couple of shorts. I really want to take advantage of all the elements of the class in order to craft a well-polished script and possibly revisit my other scripts. The section about drafts and the number of rewrites needed was quite an eye opener. I now see what is meant by the phrase “writing is rewriting.” I hope I phrased that correctly. Peace everyone!

SWEET! I spent a LOT of time on Inkarnate.com today, refining my map I started for this fantasy world I’m calling Evanterra. If you create maps for anything, this is totally an affordable option at $5 a month!

I have several stories set in Evanterra, but the one for this screenplay is the first I’m flushing out with great satisfaction.

Greetings. I’m ML Palidofska. I’ve taken screenwriting classes in the past and written a couple scripts. Took some time out to work on a novella, which I just finished. Graduate of Columbia and attended the Art Institute of Chicago. Am a visual artist as well as a writer. Listened to the recording of the “Contained Screenplay” and was intrigued and challenged to write with all those restrictions. The piece I am working on for this class is a contained screenplay.
