Hi everyone,
I am Lynn (she). I am currently working on one screenplay. Something unusual about myself is that I absolutely love to learn new things. I hope to get out of this class everything I can about writing a screenplay, plus writing in general. I look forward to meeting everyone.

Hello, I’m Birgit (a Norwegian name pronouced BEERgit, with a hard “g”). I am a woman, so my preferred pronoun is “she.” I have written a number of scripts in various genres. A recent one, an adaptation of a Biblical #MeToo-related story, garnered the $10,000 Kairos Prize for Spiritually Uplifting Screenplays at the Movieguide Awards a few years ago. Currently, I’m trying my hand at a biographic miniseries about a famous American sports figure. Something unique about me is I have lived over half my life (turning 56 at the end of this month) overseas on four continents. I’m always on the lookout for ways to improve my writing, which is why I enrolled in this course. Looking forward to meeting the rest of the class.

Hi, I’m Joseph (he) and I am in the middle of my MFA in Popular Fiction and Publishing at Emerson College. I am taking this course to learn more about how to write with intellectual AND emotional impact. I worked as a spaceflight surgeon for the International Space Station program before coming to my current job, so it wasn’t just out of the box, it was off the planet. I am looking forward to learning with you and from you during the course. Given the variety of people here, it looks like we are going to have some profound fun!

Hi, my name is Suzanne, I am a full-time writer and I’m looking forward to working on this class. I have been writing screenplays for about ten years and have loved all of Hal’s classes. I am in the process of writing a screenplay for a producer so I’m looking forward to using some of these skills to take my latest screenplay to the next level.

Hi All,
My name is Paul and I’ve written approx. 12+ feature scripts. Something different about me is that I once stood in front of a Police Officer who had his gun drawn in order to stop him having a clear shot at a relative who was mentally unwell and not responding to police directions. I was able to de-escalate the situation and get the person to do as the police had instructed. I hope to learn more techniques that can help to elevate scripts and make the characters connect with readers.
Cheers,
Paul

Hi my name is Paolo. I have written several scripts most of which are absolutely terrible. However, I do have four that I think are of merit. Probably the most unique thing about me is that my teenage years were spent in an orphanage. I am open to anything that improves my writing. Thanks for listening.

Hi, Friends. I am Robert R. Smith (he/his/him). You may call me “Bob.” I am a retired Episcopal Priest. All my life I have been involved in using my talent in theatre arts as actor, writer, and director. I even wrote and performed comedy sketches as sermons. Mofre recently I was a actor and writer of a local Improv and sketch comedy group. I have written one act plays. I just wrote my first full length play, “Angels in Gangland.” Because of Covid restriction, we had to produce it as a Zoom production, which was very well received. I am now adapting the play to the screen. It still needs work. So I am glad to be in this class with Hal and all of you.

Hello, I’m Frank Jordan (he). Just completed my second feature screenplay. Was born in Glasgow, Scotland. Moved to California as an infant. Something unique, I have been leading 1914-1918 Western Front battlefield tours in France and Flanders for 30 years as a hobby. I love the emotional journey of profound stories and hope to write one someday.

Hi! I’m Mark Smith. I have worked in journalism – print and television – for the past 30 years and wanted to try my hand at screen writing. I’ve been collaborating with a fellow journalist on two different scripts, with plans for more. I’m taking the class because I realize I have a lot to learn about the craft and dynamics of screenwriting. I come in with an open mind and willingness to become transformed!
