Introduce Yourself To The Group
Posted by cheryl croasmun on September 12, 2022 at 7:34 amHi everyone,
I’m glad you’ve joined us for the class.
To start the class out, please introduce yourself below. That will give you a chance to be part of this group and learn how the forums work.
Tell us the following:
1. Name?
2. How many scripts you’ve written?
3. What you hope to get out of the class?
4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you?
We look forward to working with you all!

Hey, I’m Robert. I’ve written 7 scripts. I hope to learn the best way to rewrite a script in a hurry. I also write books: sci-fi, horror, thrillers in those genres.

Hello! I’m Lisa and I’m an alumni of PSA41 and the Bingeworthy TV classes. I’ve written two feature-length scripts and am currently working on a TV show that I hope to have ready to pitch by the end of the year.
I am hoping to learn how to polish my screenplays to make them marketable.
Something special about me… I am an accomplished maker of pancakes.
-
Hey Lisa, I wasn’t able to get into the system for the last three days. Please send me your email as well, so we can communicate that way, as well. I got your assignment from Marian (I asked her to send it to me.) We supposed to be commenting on each other’s work, right? I’ll look at it tomorrow. ~ Sam [samrubinactor@gmail.com]
-
Hi, Sam,
Really sorry to hear about your trouble getting on. Very frustrating I’m sure, but glad to see you’re back on.
If you don’t mind, I’d like to communicate only on the ScreewritingU platform. We can message each other on an individual basis. I have two other businesses I’m running and I’m trying to keep things compartmentalized, so keeping correspondence on here gives me a little sanity with all the other emails I receive. Hope you’re okay with that. Also, I forgot we are supposed to comment on each other’s work. I will give you a chance to catch up before I do.
Thanks, Sam, glad you’re back on the site 🙂
Best,
Lisa

Hi Cheryl, and everyone,
1. My name is Annie Bénichou Macdonald I wrote several scripts with my husband & co-writer.
2) We have written short scripts for a local TV producer and written 5 feature screenplays, a novel in the works, and a finished novella.
3) I hope to learn new rewrite skills, but mainly elevate our latest script, COLONEL MOURAD’S VIOLIN, an anti-war drama.
4) The unique thing about me in such a class is my age and nationality. I wonder if anyone here can guess it 🤔

I would assume that you are French, but your husband is of Scottish heritage.
And, I am sure that you are no more than 39 years old. 🙂

Very perceptive, Ken – a little off with my age. Why are you sure I am more than 39 🤔
-
I am sure that you are NO more than 39, because that’s what gentlemen do. 😇

Hi everyone,
my name in Marian. I have written 8 scripts. I hope to get my latest script to a really awesome level and also get a better rewrite process with more tools. Unusual for this class may be that I am from Germany and write in German language, so probably nobody here will be able to read my assignments? 😀
Great to meet you all, best
Marian-
Hi, Marian!!
Ich spreche ein bisschen Deutsch. Ich liebe Deutschland und habe dort dreieinhalb Jahre gelebt, als ich bei der US Air Force in Frankfurt stationiert war.
I wish I spoke and read fluently, but I don’t. However, I would still love to read your script and give it a try!
Great to meet you! Best,
Arial

Hey, I’m Bill and I have written one completed novel that has now sold over 500,000 copies and have two novels that have been in the rewriting stages for several years. At the moment I am working on turning that published novel into a limited TV series and hope to expedite that process as well as meet and learn from the others in this class and complete the rewrites of the two not-yet-completed novels. I also wrote, produced, and edited one two-hour documentary film that is shown frequently on Public Television.

Hi all,
Terry Hicks here…
I have 4 feature length scripts in various stages of re-writes. Also several shorts and was 1/3 of a team that wrote and produced a youtube comedic web series for 3 seasons. Currently making my way through ScreenwritingU’s “How to Write Acton Movies” for a new feature script.
What I hope to get from this class is how to elevate my existing scripts so they deliver a great reader/audience experience. One that inspires and entertains in the moment and beyond.
Something perhaps unique… My background~career was in watershed ecology and restoration with great adventures throughout the Inter-mountain Western US. My love of the outdoors was greatly imprinted by adventures exploring the Himalayan foothills as a child.

Hi, I’m Marie. I’ve written around ten scripts, optioned a couple, nearly sold one, and entered a number of contests. Then I took a break to care for my special needs daughter. Now, I’m looking to jump back in, starting with rewriting a piece I shelved a few years ago because it wasn’t working. I write primarily horror, sci-fi, and fantasy. Something unique about me…I’m a history and horror buff, and the particular piece I’m working on is dear to my heart – a period ghost story. Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Hi class
I’m Stefani Zabner, but my nickname is Zabs.
I’ve written one pilot, one feature, and a spec for a popular TV show (not produced). I’m currently finishing up my second feature and using this class to help me get it to a polished level. I’ve also written and produced a couple short films.
I’m hoping to step up my screenwriting skills overall. I also work in development, so I’m hoping this helps me communicate better with writers.
Something interesting about me: I left the platform in 2020 (too much drama!), but I was the first person with my last name “Zabner” to have an account on Facebook. And ended up learning about cousins and distant relatives all over the world as more started joining!

Hi! My name is Sam Rubin.
I’ve written and filmed a bunch of shorts and had some of my short films make it into film festivals, including winning a director’s award at the LA Film Fest.
I’ve written three full-length scripts. The one I’m bringing to this learning experience is the third one. It’s got a few problems and I look forward to the support I hope to get from this class.
~ Sam

Sam Rubin here, again… Something unique about me. I am on the autism spectrum. I sing opera. This summer, I performed in two opera…La Traviata and Iolanthe. I love the ritual of it.
-
Hi. I’m Patty. I’ve written about 14 scripts. I want to elevate the first feature I wrote. I’m on draft 8 and it still needs a bit of work. Something unique. Probably that my focus is the faith-based Christian genre and I want to advocate for faith-based and clean content inclusion.
-
Hey classmates!
I’m Dan from Indy, sure “Indiana Dan”.
I just completed my first screenplay.
I hope to gain new writing skills and some experienced writing friends.
My career has been as a bank executive and angel investor. So as far as writing goes, I think John Wayne would call me a pilgrim.
-
Hi,
I’m Joan. I’ve written 2 scripts. I’m hoping to make my characters more emotional and I need advise on how to show not tell in many of my scenes. I have this sign near my keyboard:
Getting discouraged is not an option. I choose hope and I choose to write and rewrite.
-
Hi, I’m Ken.
Scripts:
I’ve written twelve scripts mostly in the action adventure, buddy comedy genres for the whole family. These past two years, I have focused on writing for Hallmark and the burgeoning faith-based streaming services. My last two scripts have been Christmas-themed: A Dickens of a Christmas, and The Santa Brotherhood.
Class Goal
By taking the Re-write class my goal is to re-write and elevate both of these scripts, before marketing them.
Unique:
To get inside the head of a store Santa, for script, The Santa Brotherhood, I served in the role of Santa on OKC’s Polar Express Train Ride in 2021. My wife and I are the executive directors of Spotlight Productions OKC, a training organization for youth who want to pursue professional stage performance, musical theater and film and television. I have been an actor in 12 movies and streaming series. I play the Irish whistle and any instrument that a keyboard can produce. I have four instrumental albums on Spotify, two feature solo acoustic guitar and two are Celtic, featuring the Irish whistle, set against soft piano and orchestra. One album, Portals to Heaven, earned the title of Best Instrumental Album of the Year.
It’s a pleasure to be back with Hal and Cheryl for this, my fourth ScreenwritingU class.
Best to all,
Ken

Hello, my name is Daniel.
I’ve written 4 feature-length scripts and a handful of short films and one-act plays. Most of my work centers around my experience as a BIPOC and I’m specializing in Sci-fi/Fantasy. I hope this class helps me prepare my current screenplay for competition in 2023.
I’m learning to play the piano for the first time as an adult, despite writing and recording music most of my life.

Hello, Everyone!
My name is Arial Burnz (pen name) and I’ve written a dozen novels in the paranormal romance and psychic mystery romance genres. I have written a TV Pilot and I’m working on an adaptation of “The Count of Monte Cristo” for a fantasy, gender-flipped feature film – “The Countess of Mount Crystal”.
Something Unique: I have paranormal on the brain when it comes to writing. I’m sure no matter what idea that pops into my head, I can give it a paranormal twist – either ghosts, vampire, shifters, magic…whatever. It’s my superpower.

Hi, I’m Savanna. Hal’s and Cheryl’s classes inform my work so much, even if I don’t post everything about it. I’m using this class to help me rewrite a stage play actually, as I see that many concepts transfer over to playwriting. I’ve written one stage play and one screenplay. I might be addicted to Hal’s voice….he can explain things so that I continue listening and understanding.
-
Hi, I’m Dan. I’ve written more than a dozen non-fiction books and two fiction books (thrillers). I have written a draft for one script.
I want to learn the mechanics of writing a script and the techniques for writing a good story.
I wrote one of the first books about marketing on the Internet in 1994, which led to speaking engagements around the world: from Beijing to Budapest, all across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and even Rio!
-
Wow, impressive! What are your non-fiction books about? Have any of your books been published? Writing a script is a very delicate operation, different from writing books. I read your outline, it definitely has a hook, but yes, I believe you need more, about one page. 🙂
-
Thanks, Annie. Yes, my books have been published by major companies like Wiley and translated into six languages. I write about marketing, communications, and leadership. I also ghostwrite books and serve as developmental editor to such clients as a retired Army general, a former NFL player and many lawyers, doctors, and financial planners. I’m here to learn, so thank you for the feedback on my story. I was afraid of telling too much! I have lots to learn!
-
You’re welcome, Dan.
I was like you, my motto was LESS IS MORE. As you get to ASSIGNMENT 2, you’ll see that you need at least 9 sentences. Perhaps for the assignment, 2 we could partner up to give each other feedback. What do you think?
