    Written 2 scripts

I want to build deeper characters and get my scripts over the top and sell.

When I first started to dream of being a screenwriter, I took jobs as an extras in Denver, Colorado. It was very interesting and gave me great insights into how a film is made and the details involved.

Hi, the script I’m revising is my first. I hope to learn to better characterization so that my characters will be more interesting to the audience. I call my script a cross between My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Madea.

My name is Joan Butler. I’ve written 2 scripts. Their plots are somewhat ok but their characters need a lot of work. I hope to improve them. When I sit at my computer, I see these words: Getting discouraged is not an option. I choose hope. And I choose to write.

Hi, I’m Elizabeth, with 7 scripts in varying stages of completion/revision, two of which need particular character/subtext work—so I’m looking forward to this class and getting to know all of you!

I come from the novel world. Hal’s Thriller class helped me re-focus for the third draft of a pandemic virus novel. I was deep in revision (and also writing the screenplay) when the first cases of endemic COVID presented to my husband’s hospitals in the Seattle area. Needless to say, all of that work is ‘in a drawer’ …

    Hello everyone,

I’ve completed one horrible script. Now, I’m focusing on my second one. I want it to be spectacular. So, I bought this class.

    Liz Janzen here.

I’ve written half a dozen spec scripts.

I’ve sometimes been told my scripts ‘need more character development.’ I’m hoping to remedy that by taking this class.

    Looking forward!

    Hello all,

Patrick Malone. I have written 2 spec features and a spec TV pilot. Earlier this year I was brought in to write the pilot for a series in development.

Hoping this course will help me develop more in depth characters.

I love dogs, beaches, exploring new places. I was once questioned by Mi5 about an IRA bombing in London. I had nothing to do with it. I can laugh about it now!

    Hello, fellow character seekers. 🙂

I’m Dalisia and I’ve written three scripts. I want to drastically improve my character building and dialogue before I start my fourth.

Fun fact: I’m a huge fan of any actor who can manage to play each of their characters different ways vs. playing the same dang person every time, only with a different name. My goal is to write characters so uniquely that it isn’t possible for the actors to do that!

Hi everyone, Mi Kwan from Paris, France.

As an actress director, I realized I had to write my own projects if I want to play more profound characters. I’ve written 3 short scripts, 1 TV show that I’m currently revising – hope to improve it so I can get it signed + I want to start to write a feature film so I need to improve my writing.

I’m French of Chinese descent and grew up in Madagascar. Lived in Los Angeles from 2017-2020.

    Eager to start the class!

    Hi everyone,

I’ve written 5 scripts, all involving climate change. The first 4 have done well winning various contests but have weaknesses. The 5th is in its 2nd draft stage in SU’s “Writing Incredible Movies” course. I hope this course will help me improve my characters.

In addition to the WIM course, I’ve taken many “free” classes here and several shorter courses, such as the ones on dialogue, rewriting, and subtext. And I’ve taken other online and in-class screenwriting courses.

I’m a retired anthropology professor but have been writing fiction for decades — including a published romance novella, THE MARRIAGE SEASON, set in India. 😁

Last summer I attended (online) The Hollywood Climate Summit – Writing Climate: Pitchfest for TV & Film. It was really educational with great tips for climate change screenwriting. In fact, I got my idea for my current script from it.

    Greetings from Dublin Ireland.

My name is Ann Marie Brennan and I am a director and screenwriter.

I’ve written about 4 or 5 feature scripts at various levels of draftmanship (and craftmanship!)

I studied film and have worked as a director and writer for stage and screen – I also edit and am currently editing a feature documentary I made.

I was a finalist in the Edinburgh Comedy festival where I performed as a stand-up comedian

I am looking forward to acquiring the skills and methods from this course to bring my scripts to a higher level of professionalism and saleability.

    Hi, Caryn Ward Ross.

I’ve co-written one drama script for a drama series of which I was also the EP and story editor.

I am currently developing/writing my first original drama pilot.

I am taking this class because I want to understand the nuances behind writing deep, rich and compelling characters. My goal is to elevate my thought-process and write on a profound, high level.

I love chocolate cookies and I am the proud owner of 236 freckles splattered across my nose, cheeks and face 🙂

    Hi, I’m Donna Stockwell.

I’ve written 3 scripts, working on 2 and have ideas for a couple more, and one is intensely character driven.

I’ve taken Hal’s TV Binge Course, and cannot believe how much I learned, so I “expect” 🙂 the same for just characters… and by the intro analysis of the Devil Wears Prada, I am so excited!

I am taking movie making at the local college.

    Cheryl:

Good morning and hope your holiday week is going well.

I have completed both lessons for Week 3, Day 1 but there is no Forum Discussion for this lesson. It looks like there are discussions for week 4 but nothing for week 3.

With this being right on top of the holiday season, it is critical that the forum discussions are synched up with the lessons. Very much want to avoid working on lessons and scene exchanges on the holiday weekend.

    Thank you.

    Hello everyone.

A bit late to the party, but life has been crazy.

I am Marlene Rhein. I’ve written 4 feature scripts, several dramedy TV episodes 4 full web series.

I know that unique, multifaceted characters are the key to engaging and audience and want to improve my writing.

Fun fact: I directed 2Pac’s last video.

    My name is Mike Coste.

I’m currently starting my first script. But I have written some short plays.

I want to be able to develop characters with depth and also characters that are not always like me.

I don’t know if it’s particularly unique or strange, but I used to teach philosophy at a community college.
