Posted by cheryl croasmun on February 20, 2023 at 9:40 pmHi everyone,
I’m glad you’ve joined us for the class.
To start the class out, please introduce yourself below. That will give you a chance to be part of this group and learn how the forums work.
Tell us the following:
1. Name?
2. How many scripts you’ve written?
3. What you hope to get out of the class?
4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you?
We look forward to working with you all!

2 Screenplays, working on first novel (adapted from one of the screenplays)
I have (what I hope) is a big concept project that I have wanted to do for a while, but I have not. Hoping this class pushes me to complete a draft for this idea.
Unique, unusual – hmmm… semi-retired so on the older age scale. Was a line producer for years and used to own my own production company. But I did commercials and network promo packages, not features.

Hi,
1. Anna Maganini
2. I have written maybe 7-9(?) screenplays – hard to say since many are not finished or only half started or aborted. I have written somewhat complete first drafts maybe on 4 or 5 of them, with various quality results. I made one of them into a film (I am also an actor). I have also worked on several novels and one memoir, again in different stages of completion.
3. I want to write a screenplay that really works and sparks the imagination of Hollywood and gets picked up and made into a movie, and preferably one I can have a good role in. But most importantly, I want to know how to write great and undeniable stories, whether it’s screenplays, novels, or memoirs, and crack the code of coming up with great seed ideas and GREAT story structure.
4. Something unusual/strange/unique about me. I thought of a better and quicker share, so this is an edited post. In my life, I have lived in a houseboat, a cave, a kibbutz, a car, a mansion, various European beaches, a Nepali hut, a Turkish hostel/slash/opium den, and various and sundry apartments. I am sure I forgot a few domiciles.
5. I also have questions about this course and this website in general.
a. We got an assignment that is is due in 24 hours, but the course doesn’t start until July 25? I am confused!
b. Will there be more assignments to watch out for before the course starts? I just want to be ready.
c. Also, I am intrigued by possibly taking the class privately. How would that work and where would it make a difference from the regular class? (I am a bit paranoid about idea stealing).
Thanks for response. Anna

Hi all, I’m Tonya. I accidentally drifted over into screenwriting from novels and short stories about a year ago. I have several ideas in various stages, but am taking this class to help me move them along to FADE OUT.
Unique-ish: I live in a 24′ travel trailer with my partner (a software engineer) and two pups. Currently camped out in the remote southern Arizona desert.
Looking forward to learning from and being inspired by you all.
-
Hey Tonya! I live in the Rockies in a trailer too! With destucto dog! Nice to meet you!
Heather

Hey Heather! Small world. We’re all over the place right now, but the Sangre de Cristos are home for me.
-
Hey Tonya! Nice to see you! The Rockies are my home.
I missed the rest of my post so I’ll stick it here:
1. Name? Heather Hood.
2. How many scripts you’ve written? 12 ish.
3. What you hope to get out of the class? Some of my scripts need more structure and work. I hope to elevate them.
4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you? I live off grid and homestead.
Have a wonderful day folks!

A Happy Hello to Everyone,
I have written three screenplays. The latest of which I wrote no less than 15 drafts. I’d love for this course to teach me to exponentially ramp up the deliverables in fewer drafts.
Something unique about me; After falling overboard, I swam the entire Panama Canal between the SS Cristobol and the Norwegian Bliss. Kidding aside; I once created mayhem out of mischief as a member of the Guerrilla Girls in the 90’s.
Looking forward to being inspired!

Hi, I’m Mark Kelton. I have written 10+ scripts.
Hoping to learn from this class how to write a better script than all the previous ones I’ve written.
I used to be able to solve a Rubik’s Cube in 30 seconds, but I’m out of practice.

Pam Ewing
I’ve completed 2-3 features. I’d done even more spec sitcoms. Still finishing is a problem for me because somewhere I have binder of ideas.
I was writing for me. Now I’m old and I need to write for my stories. They need a birth.
I hope I can stay true to the vision of creating for the stories and not letting my ego or perfectionism get in the way.
Unique strange? Yes. I have them but nothing noteworthy. Ah – I’ve died before. There is life after death (multiple true meanings).

Hi, my name is Heather Hood. I’ve written 7 feature scripts, 3 short scripts and 2 TV pilots. I hope to become a better writer and get at least one of my scripts optioned this year. Something unusual about myself, hmm. I belong to a historical recreation group. I’m a historical costumer with a specialty in Irish and Scottish garb. She who dies with the most fabric wins!

Good evening to all,
My name is Bent Hanlen. I have taken classes here since 2017 and love it. I’m better for it.
I wrote 3 pilots two of my own concept. I collaborated on a tv series with a writing partner and we completed two episodes. I hope she isn’t finished. There are 4 features and I go back and tweak them slowly.
My favorite genre is comedy. I write jokes and do stand up as it makes me happy. I am searching for a literary manager to sign me up. Someday soon!

Hello everyone,
My name is Stacy Zielinski. I haven’t written any scripts yet but have had a plethora of ideas lodged in my brain for years and decided it’s time to get them down on paper. I first bought Final Draft about 7 years ago with the intention to write a Comedy and alas still haven’t done it…I will use this class to translate one of these ideas to an actual script. Something unique…In my younger days, I was an aupair in Germany and speak German fairly fluently to this day.
-
My name is Arlin Green.
I have started many scripts, but only completed a couple.
I would like to learn how to carry through from idea to sellable script.
I have done some limited acting and voiceover work.
I’m 67 years old and have had a wealth of experience (read as “old”) to help come up with ideas.
-
Hi everyone, I’m Jessica. I have written 5 1/2 scripts.
I intend to get my creative process from stories running around in my brain to actual sellable screenplays from what I learn in this class.
Unique? I started my desire to write screenplays when I was living in Australia. My good friend, who was also my children’s music teacher, wanted to teach them about how words in songs can bring out emotion. She knew I wrote PR and training manuals and thought maybe I could help her out. Until then, I was stuck on writing the facts, not dialogue or creative pieces. Oh, and I was a talent agent in Australia!

Hi Everyone,
I thought I already posted this assignment, so I will post it again.1. Marc Lynch
2. I’ve written three feature screenplays and two shorts.
3. I hope to meet some interesting writers and l learn the process of creating professional screenplays and restart my journey to becoming a professional writer.
4. I’m an intermediate, community theatre, a theatrical performer with twenty-five plays to my credit in Albuquerque/Santa Fe. New Mexico.
-
1. Cameron Martin
2. I’ve written two features.
3. I hope to further develop my skills, particularly my weak points (character, dialogue, and rewrites)
4. I just got access to the forum. So that’s cool. Other than that, I like to compromise. For example, my son has a kindergarten parade this Friday, and he needed a Disney themed float. He wanted Lion King. I wanted Star Wars. So we compromised. I made an x-wing with Simba roaring on the side of it, kind of like those P-40 Flying Tigers from WW2.
-
To make sure I am not losing my mind, this course starts on May 1st, is that correct?
Thanks,
Chris

Hi, Cheryl, Hal & everyone else excited to be here.
My name’s Dave Kraft.
I’ve written two Action Thriller feature screenplays:
FULL CONTACT and IMPOSTERS of THE THIRD REICH.
Through studying industry teachings, especially these at Screenwriting U, I hope to constantly elevate my skill-sets to be the best working Screenwriter/Producer I possibly can.
I work (between power naps) everyday (no kidding) around the clock. . . screenwriting, reading screenplays/books, watching movies & helping others live this dream we all must breathe.
Wishing everyone success,
Work hard. Finish strong. ; ) Believe!

1. Sara Longmuir
2. How many scripts you’ve written? 2 completed, many more abandoned partway through
3. What you hope to get out of the class? Write my high concept comedy feature idea so that I can sell it to Working Title Films here in the UK, sell my romcom script (it needs rewriting)
4. Something unique, special, strange or unusual about you? I’ve had a 40 year career as a chartered accountant with 20 years in parallel as a clinical hypnotherapist. I freelanced in finance for a short while at Film4 in the UK in approx 2000 and used to borrow their scripts. I fell in love with screenplays and dabbled in learning screenwriting. Now I’ve stopped doing finance work and am focusing on writing and producing.
