LESSON #1
Mona’s Transformational Journey
What I learned in this assignment is that my character’s transformational journey has to me more intense and earth-shattering.
ROM COM Project: What Stays in Vegas
2) Character arc transformation
Mona — Hero —
Internal Journey — Deeply risk-averse, she finally learns in Vegas that love is the greatest gamble of all.
External Journey — Mona’s Bachelorette Party that takes an unexpected turn when she meets the true and dangerous love of her life.
3) Old Ways & New Ways
Mona is engaged to absolute safest man she could find. When her best friends “kidnap” her and take her to Vegas instead of the San Diego spa that was planned, she learns the new ways of gambling, taking risks, and starts to learn that she has a thing for danger.

Margaret’s Transformational Journey
What I learned doing this assignment: Both the external and internal transformational change must be present
Who is your Hero and what is their Character Arc that represents a transformation? My hero (protagonist) is Jabin (20’s), a pleasantly plump man who makes it his mission to coast through life.
Internal Journey: From non-committed and peace-loving to actively involved in the saving of Hedeon’s children.<div>
External Journey: Needs to find his way home, to his previous comfort zone
3. What are the Old Ways and New Ways?
Old Ways:
– Does not actively work to make any self-improvements or seek better positions
-Not a fighter, will use his negotiation skills to keep the peace
-Does not enjoy adventure, seeks the safety of the known
-Doesn’t believe he is an achiever, so afraid to try
-Is a follower
New Ways:
-A leader
-Encourages others to fight for what they believe in
-Willing to give his life to save Hedeon’s children

Ed’s Transformational Journey
What I learned doing this assignment is that I REALLY need to recognize when I’m perfectionizing and concentrate on simply DOING.
Hero: Dave Carlson – new college graduate. He dreads what he sees as a dead-end, small town life and believes the cure for it is money and status. He’s targeted those and believes he’s sharp enough to get them.
Internal Journey: From self-satisfied chaser of superficial success to humble adult seeking his true place in the world.
External Journey: From top of his class to disillusioned loser to faculty-track grad student.
Old Ways:
Self-centered and mistaken about what makes a worthwhile life.
Study hard, get the best grades, be a winner.
Plan out everything in advance.
Overconfident, believed too much in himself.
“God helps those who help themselves.”
New Ways:
Thoughtful and open minded.
Sees the value in pursuing a worthwhile dream.
Study hard, learn from others, share what you know.
“God knows best. Sometimes bad things happen for a good reason.”

(Just an FYI to those who are new to this: always save what you are inputting (here or anywhere) as a Word doc on your computer. In cases like this last week, all I have to do is copy/paste them back here.)
LESSON #1: Tim Barley’s Transformation Journey
What I learned from doing this assignment is that doing the Stuart Smalley “I’m good enough…” empowerment is a great way to get writing and thinking! Also, while I thought I had a handle on my idea, working through this assignment alone got me to round of some edges that I needed to address.
I have two heroes/protagonists for this project: uber movie producer Martin Sterling and The Devil.
Martin’s internal journey: FROM jaded, egotistical, bottom-line, control freak tyrant TO humble, empathetic and creative driven producer, allowing others to use their creativity
Matin’s external journey: FROM a man that has everything done for him TO a man that takes control of his OWN life in running from threats both real and supernatural and working WITH others and not against them
The Devil’s internal journey: FROM sinister, evil, bored, restless Lord of Hell to believer in humanity and open to new experiences that Earth has to offer
The Devil’s external journey: FROM overseer of the tortured damned to one learning that humans can be so much worse to themselves than he can ever be.
———
Martin’s old ways: selfish, egotistical, narcissist, values money over all else
Martin’s new ways: open-minded, risk taker, compassionate, empathetic, team player
The Devil’s old ways: solitary, tempter, evil
The Devil’s new ways: responsible, light-hearted, “kinder,” playful
