Hi Cheryl, I’m assuming we post here for assignments. I apologize for the delay. I just got back from Italy, so I think I don’t have any good excuse for tardiness; I was having a fabulous time in Naples, but I was thinking of my assignment, so here goes:
Lead Character A: Chiara Curtiss
Role in the Story: CHIARA CURTISS (50) , is Female Lead. CHIARA will be the “love interest” of Lead Character B.
Age Range for CHIARA: 45-55, She is Blond, full-figured, voluptuous in the body ideal of 1960s sexiness; she’s proud of her curves, large breasts and likes to look pretty even if she’s stepping out to take out the thrash; She’s the type of lady that would never leave the house without full-make-up; both older and younger guys look at her when she enters a room, her scent is as seductive as her voice, her style, her mannerisms.
Core Traits: CHIARA now’s how to light up a room, she knows when she’s being looked at; she can seduce any man—it hard to say no to her. There’s a high emotional intelligence and well as literal intelligence; she can talk to a plumber or a Wall-Street executive and hold her own. She’s witty, funny, charming, and has an infectious laugh that lights up a room: she puts you in a good mood even is she’s across the room. By the same token, if she’s upset or sad, you feel it; if she’s down your down, you’re only hope is to make her feel better—she’s magnetic in that sense; you’ll go out of your way for her.
Character Subtext: CHIARA does not have a poker face; you’ll wonder if something is the matter when she says she’s “ok.” She always says the opposite of what she means when she’s upset; She’ll complain about the food or the restaurant when she’s really upset about something else. She says she wants to be left alone when really she wants to be surrounded by people that only adore her. She loves praises and wants to be loved. She looks away when telling a lie. She’s more comfortable with men than other women. She knows she can manipulate men more easily; she’ll tell a lie about someone—another woman—if that other person is a threat to her. She can be very “complicated” when trying to get information out of her. She can “shut-down” very easily and her normal expressive and delightful personality can shift to one word answers responses that punch you in the gut.
Motivation; wants / need : CHIARA wants a man and romance to validate her; She needs “validation” and acceptance from a man as she was abandoned by her father and was raised by her mother, an overzealous mother that took pride in religion and abstinence.
Flaw: CHIARA is looking for love in all the wrong places; she’s been blessed with good looks and has managed to stay attractive but she’s insecure; her only sense of value is when she’s being courted by a man. She says she’s a happy independent woman, but that’s far from the truth.
What’s special about this character: CHIARA is little bit like all of us: she wants love and affection as much as anybody else—after all , isn’t that what all human beings want and crave? She’s special because even at 50 years of age, she still has hope her prince will come. She also knows way deep down that she would be ok if Prince Charming never comes—but she doesn’t’ want to think about that— she’s an eternal romantic.
LOGLINE: CHIARA is a hopeless romantic that must learn to love herself first, independently of the validation of any man.
Lead Character B: JIMMY LOPEZ
AGE RANGE: 45-55, JIMMY LOPEZ is (49), he is 6’2” , Latino, dark brown hair with a chiseled beard; He’s gotten better looking with age like a fine wine. Men and women look up when he enters a room: everyone sits upright a little subconsciously, as if someone important has moved the molecules in the room; he commands instant respect.
CORE TRAITS: JIMMY is charming in a not so obsequious manner; he knows how to get something from you but he’s never obvious. His voice is strong and you stop whatever you were thinking whenever he speaks to you; he commands your complete attention. He’s gentle but also one is constantly aware this is someone that commands respect and you wouldn’t want to confront him. In fact, on a subconscious level, you go out of your way to please him; he makes you feel good and would turn your frown into a smile for the remainder of the day. When he leaves a room, you’re anxiously awaiting his return.
CHARACTER SUBTEXT: he’ll talk about his father and how he was disciplined should he become upset of annoyed with you. He talks slower and his “gregariousness” is no longer there. He will look you in the eye and make you squirm even he’s unrelated words or phrases when asking you a question. He will “redirect” the answer to a question should you “press” him on an issue. JIMMY never lies, but will always make you “see” things differently. He’s polite and is never scheming, but he will withhold information until a more appropriate time.
MOTIVATION: JIMMY wants respect and validation, but at the core he NEEDS love, family, and community. He wants to be a great leader, but he has to realize people should not have to be led because they instead want to be inspired by him.
FLAW: He hides it very well, but via his subtext / body language he HATES to be disrespected; he witnessed his father be disrespected and dishonored because of his ethnicity. In private he gets very angry and he can lose his temper and control with those he loves the most and are closest to him.
WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT THIS CHARACTER?: he’s a great man, he’s inspiring and he wants you to voluntarily be a better person, a better worker, a better citizen. He’s got the “magic” of someone who could be the President of the USA if he wanted.
LOGLINE: JIMMY is a natural born leader but must come up against greedy corporate tycoons and stubborn union workers to save the company.

· Character Name: Matt Anderson
o Role in the Story: Male protagonist
o Age range and Description: Mid-20’s to early 30’s, neat, quiet, unassuming
o Core Traits: Loyal, kind, responsible, cautious, emotional
o Character Subtext: Politeness
o Motivation; Want/Need: To marry Lily
o Flaw: Compulsively rigid rule-follower, afraid to take risks
o What’s special about this character? Hidden under his quiet exterior and occasionally obsessive behavior, he is deeply emotional and doggedly persistent. He is the ultimate “catch” and exactly what Lily wants and needs – if she can let go of her grudge and stop underestimating him.
o Character Logline: Matt is a loyal, loving man who must overcome his rigid need to follow rules so that he can win back his love, Lily.
· Character Name: Lily Chen
o Role in the Story: Female protagonist
o Age range and Description: Mid-20’s to early 30’s, Chinese, attractive, somewhat flamboyant
o Core Traits: Independent, determined and caring
o Character Subtext: Withholding, freezing out others
o Motivation; Want/Need: Lily wants to find love – and a love that puts her first – so that she can overcome her deep-seated insecurity.
o Flaw: Difficulty forgiving, holds grudges
o What’s special about this character? Although successful and accomplished, Lily is deeply insecure and feels that she will never be good enough. Her fear stems from the fact that her father only wanted a son – and emigrated from China after Lily was born so that he could have a son.
o Character Logline: Lily is a caring and independent but insecure woman who must learn to let go of grudges so that she can find the happiness and love she craves.
