    Subject: Monica’s Target Market

What I learned doing this assignment is that I do this for every script that’s ready to market. It’s invaluable.

WIM2 Module 10 Lesson 10 – How to Target Your Market

    Lisa Long’s Target Market

What I learned doing this assignment is that it takes time to look up contacts in IMDB, several clicks and then most of the time the information is not there. Hopefully, the time will pay off by having a list of contacts that are willing to have someone reach out to them by placing their information on their page. It is an important part of setting myself up for success by knowing who to contact.

    MODULE TEN LESSON 10

    FRAN’S TARGET MARKET

WHAT I LEARNED: I think I found a producer who I can send a letter to that works or worked for the company I want to get my Steamboat script to. I found her under the GIFTED movie! And I think I can get the script noticed through her to get it to Ron Howard!!!!! There are a few others who also might work. I got a couple of surprises when I clicked on them just to see if there would be any information. YES!!!! One was Brad Pitt and he had the producer info needed for the assignment. And also Ben Stiller. He would be an awesome producer to get. I love his movies. I loved his Walter Mitty one. I watch it whenever I get the urge to.

    I counted 60 producers I found that I saved.

MY VISION: I want to write great movies. Movies that are magical, movies that move people and tell the truth. I want to write movies that stars will want to be in.

I’m still doing this, but a few tips:

    1. The IMDbPro producer list is in alphabetical order (not by importance).

    2. And I really needed contact info for DON’T LOOK UP, but nothing on IMDbPro, so I found their production company’s physical address on the Film & Television Industry Alliance production list: https://productionlist.com/production-contact/

    Lynn’s Target Market

I LEARNED that this is a much easier way of finding lots of producers faster, though it’s still a chore.

They didn’t have “Romantic Comedy” as a genre, so I got plenty under “Romance,” then selected those that also had “comedy” as a genre. As for climate fiction films (only a handful) I just went to them individually and got the producer info.

Unfortunately I came to realize my screenplay would be in a mid-budget range, maybe $15M to $30M. So I’ll try harder next time to do lower budget.

    ===================================

I found some 60 movies that fit “Rom-Com” and $15-30M range. Starting with the ones that look most promising, I have more than 20 producers so far, with a looong way to go in completing this.

As for “climate fiction” (cli-fi), whatever the range (these are usually high budget) I have some 10 movies, but had to go back 20 years, and I have some 12 producers so far, with a looong way to go. With some there is no mention in their scripts of climate change or global warming, but only implications, as in THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL (2008): “Now it’s reached the point of no return” (used by many to describe the danger point in climate change).

What I learned doing this assignment is that while a bit time-consuming, it is really invaluable to go through the process. I did this process during the Masters Screenwriting Certificate program and already have a spreadsheet with more than 300 horror producers and nearly 150 thriller producers.

What I learned doing this assignment is for some reason the specific movies that I was targeting didn’t come up when I put “romance” in the search bar. I did find some producers who had worked on romance movies.

    Andrew Boyd’s Target Market

What I learned in this assignment: Is to think laterally. If a producer has worked previously on similar movies that is a good indication of possible interest. Also, one thing leads to another. If you step sideways off the beaten track you can find related titles that don’t come up under the genre filters. It’s also helpful to see the box office figures to avoid flops. Lastly, it helps to get a list of the other related movies the producer has made, to be sure to watch any you’ve missed before making contact. It’s a lengthy process – no surprises there – but hopefully it will justify the IMDBPro subscription. A helpful assignment.
