What I learned doing this assignment was an exercise at getting to know (and work through) my own resistance. In both the concept and open layers sections, even though I had assignment text to work with, I continuously had to set aside doubt. There’s more than one way to get it done! Write now, fix later!

I also still don’t have a title that distills my concept as well as “Breaking Bad,” but I declare myself open to letting my creativity find this for me… thx

Paula is ready for feedback. (from screenwriters u).

What I learned doing this process is – ugh, my framework is all over the place and I haven’t really made a firm decision on who is the secondary character. I’m also really confused because pp. 7-10 about the main character’s mysteries, etc. mimic pp 1-3, so are we supposed to repeat that but with one of the other characters? I learned that it’s hard for me to reign in my prose to make bullet points.

What I learned doing this assignment is adding relevant graphics can enhance our storytelling and help to convey the essence of our TV Pitch. As I started converting my TV Pitch to graphics, I found places (again) where sentences didn’t add anything to the story. I removed and rewrote some of the material that wasn’t interesting enough. I have requested a review from Dimitri to see how the TV Pitch works. Personally, I’m happy with the pitch and how it turned out. I need a second opinion though to see what can be fine tuned.

What I learned doing this assignment is I can dress up my TV Bible with stock photos. I really enjoyed the interview with Drew Foerster and was inspired by the way he used photos in his TV Bible.

I brainstormed the following photo ideas:

    · Photo of Lenin’s statue in St. Petersburg.

    · Photo of Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow

    · Photo of Russian noble’s house being vandalized

    · Photo of Lone Mountain looking onto the Spanish steps

    · Photo of Aivazovsky seascape

    · Woman’s action fight scene

Then I tried to find photos online.

I captured one of Lenin, one of the Tretyakov Gallery, one of Lone Mountain, one of an Aivazovsky painting, and one of a fight between two women.

Not sure that any of these will actually work, but at least, I’m thinking about what kind of appeal I want to achieve with my TV Bible.

What I learned doing this lesson is: in approaching the pitch bible from a visual/design perspective, I discovered a lot of places to cut down the text even further. It was really interesting to think of the document purely in terms of layout and that opened my eyes to how much more white space I needed, and how succinct the language needed to be to come across immediately and effectively. I’m still tweaking the visuals because my software is a bit wonky, but just in terms of how the images affect the document, this was really eye-opening. It was a fun exercise!

George Petersen – VISUALLY APPEALING BIBLE

What I learned doing this assignment is how refreshing it is to be able to add a visual perspective to your story, since it has always been forbidden in screenplays.

I enjoyed assembling photographs from the internet. Closeup framing in historical paintings seemed especially useful. Some original photography doesn’t seem totally out of the question.

What I learned doing this assignment is to keep searching – or creating using AI software – images until I find the “right” ones, and to balance them with the amount of text.
