VISION: I am determined to become a great screenwriter capable of getting my screenplays in various genres produced into movies that inspire vast audiences to mitigate climate change.

Finished the script, waiting for Module 6, taking care of my life outside of screenwriting that got postponed and piled up.

I have swords at my back and also a “save the world from catastrophe” mission pulling me. I have flexible but limited time; have other things to do in life, and I’m in the final phase of life. I tell myself I have to write these screenplays about climate change to help save the world. And even when disappointed by rejections (the “All is Lost” beat) I tell myself at least my script analysts and contest readers are reading them. That’s something, the Little Way of Environmental Outreach. And I plow on through.

    Module 5 – Lesson 14 Finish Up Act 4. 6-10 Pages

Lisa Long Has Finished Act 4!

My Vision: I will do whatever it takes to be comfortable saying that I am a writer by creating impactful stories with amazing characters in order to sell my scripts.

What I learned from this assignment is not to procrastinate because it feels like a big accomplishment to finish the script.

My completed outline was not as detailed as when I took the ProSeries class. This class leaves more time between the writing assignments and that makes it more difficult for me because I need the discipline of the everyday assignments. I moved ahead as much as possible.

I will need to add several scenes to make my script long enough. I need to add additional scenes and beef up the ones that I have for the second draft.

    Renee’s Start of Act 4

My Vision: I will work hard to become a well-respected writer who gets my movies produced and has enough work to keep me busy and keep the lights on.

What I learned doing this assignment is to keep myself empowered and not allow myself to stall out while writing the first draft. Just get the story down and fix issues as you rewrite.

How it’s going: I completed the first draft! Yay! I feel pretty good about the first draft. It is not very long, it came in at 62 pages, but that’s alright because I have a handful of scenes that I thought were needed while writing the first draft. Once these scenes are added in the next draft I should be sitting good at around 90 pages, the perfect length for a horror/thriller.

My Vision: Get a script made into a movie.

I finished the first draft of my script. It’s got a lot of problems, so I’m looking forward to rewriting it into something good!

    Amy Has Finished Act 4!

Vision: I want to become known as an expert in the family-friendly genre and make a full-time living as a screenwriter.

What I learned from doing this assignment is my fourth act seems to be a little light. I ended up with 89 pages and a few lines on page 90, but for now, it’s done!

    WIM2 – Dana Has Finished Act 4

My Vision: I intend to perfect my skills to become a successful screenwriter, scripting acclaimed and profitable films, recognized by my peers, and living an adventurous life.

What I learned during this assignment:

I completed the script and added several scenes
with new characters in the first two acts. I’m still short, but I hope to
create more content and improve the dialogue between characters in the next
module. I need to better develop the antagonist and protagonist characters and
their relationship. As of now I have about 70+ pages.

    Module 5, Lesson 14 – Finish Act 4

Subject: Rob Ingalls Has Finished Act 4

    MY VISION:

To be a Talented writer that delivers quality fast, with the film industry seeking me out.

WIL: It’s 30% quality so I can accept that its ok to be too short in pages. It’s ok to need more info in scenes. It’s ok to be missing a scene or two and just a one-two sentence description of future placeholder. Right now there is a flow from start to finish. It’s rough but ok.

    MODULE FIVE LESSON FOURTEEN

FRAN’S (FINALLY) FINISHED WITH ACT FOUR

WHAT I LEARNED: Just try to keep your spirits up. It’s cold out today here. And we had a little snow last night. Try to keep your thoughts up and running and just try to keep going until you can’t anymore. And keep thinking it will get better.

MY VISION: I want to write great movies. Movies that are magical, movies that move people and tell the truth. I want to write movies that stars will want to be in.

I finished eight pages today and it’s still crappy. But I persevered through it. Did it during my break at work! I can see a lot of work needs to be done on this. But I tell myself it will work out. I keep Aaron Sorkin on my mind and what he said about the CHICAGO SEVEN script. He had to rewrite it umpteen times before he was anywhere near happy enough to commit it to film.

Maybe it will work out. Maybe it won’t. But I’m not going to throw in the towel yet : )

    Joe completed Act 4

My vision is to persevere and stay the course of building steady daily routine, and disciplines that produce consistent writing of exceptional quality. Ultimately, the fruit of those habits and disciplines will be a track record of great marketable scripts that will make other successful talented pros seek me out.

I did it. I completed my revised goal: finishing by the end of the weekend. 11:00 on a Sunday night and I tell my wife “I’m almost done, 5 more minutes!”. 45 minutes later I flesh out the last scene, but I’m very happy with the final resolution and image, and how it stays true to my outline and honors the script. I truly think this could be one of the most satisfying endings of a Rom-Com to date, leaving people in tears, so happy for this couple. But I’ll be happy if it’s just plain “good”. I went to bed with a 7th script under my belt. I thought it was going to be my 6th but then I recounted. Yep, Seven! WOW, that’s a really satisfying sense of accomplishment for me.

Of course, I now have 2w market ready scripts, and 5 other scripts that need to be rewritten, whereas last year this time I only had 5 total scripts (2 market ready and 3 to rewrite), Two years before that I only had the initial 2 that were market ready, and NONE others.)

I am now really looking forward to the next part of this class: the whole REWRITING thing. This part is the main reason I was sold on this class. I am really hoping for some amazing breakthroughs and maturing of my process over this next session.

WIM: Joel Stern Continues Act 4

My vision: To write eight scripts that eventually become Hollywood blockbusters and to get a speaking line in at least one of them.

What I learned from this assignment: To let the ideas flow as I write without trying to be perfect (in the early drafts).

Just finished my first draft. It took much longer because I do a lot of extra work during the holiday season (12 hour shifts). But I was able to get the writing done in several short bursts.

My biggest mistake was not creating a more thorough outline. This resulted in me having to add many scenes which altered the story a bit — not much — but some.

Dave Holloway has finished Act 4

My vision: I would like to be a successful writer in Hollywood, with a number of successful movies to my credit that put forward a core belief about environmental, political, or personal values.

What I learned doing this assignment is that finishing a first draft, even one filled with hastily written scenes, really does give a sense of accomplishment and feels like it could provide the foundation for a good script.

Erin Ziccarelli Has Finished Act 4!

Vision: I am going to create profound scripts that leave audiences remembering my movies and leave me excited to keep writing and moving up in the industry.

What I learned from doing this assignment is: My outline was very detailed and took a long time, so writing the script was much less intimidating. I stalled the most while working on my outline, but went much faster while writing the script because I had everything planned out. Writing “FADE OUT” was so exciting and I can’t wait to move onto the next draft!
